Roderick D. Gillund
Funeral services for Roderick D. Gillund, 64, Enderlin, were held on Saturday, September 6, 2003 at Armstrong Funeral Home, Enderlin. Reverend Jerry Carlson officiated. Mr. Gillund died Tuesday, September 2, 2003 at the VA Hospital in Fargo.
Roderick D. Gillund, son of Maurice and Sylvia (Watterud) Gillund was born on June 6, 1939 in rural Nome. He attended rural Nome, N.D. School, and graduated from Enderlin High School in 1957. He attended Valley City State University for a short time. Dick worked on the family farm until he entered the Army, serving from 1961-63 with service in Thailand. After the military Dick worked on constructing missile silos. He then worked on the family farm until moving to Enderlin where he worked in construction.
He is survived by three brothers, Rodney (Sharon) Gillund, Crosby, N.D., James Gillund, Enderlin, and Barry (Diane) Gillund, Enderlin. He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Bradley Gillund, Jodie Campbell, Rob Gillund, Rick Gillund, Gloria Jacob, Jay Gillund, Brent Gillund, Jessie Nelson, Chris Gillund and Kellie Gillund.
Music was provided by organist Verna Armstrong.
Interment at Enderlin Cemetery.

Carl Alfred Anderson
We are sad to announce the passing of our father on August 28, 2003 at Parkside Lutheran Home, Lisbon, N.D. He will be missed by us all. Carl Alfred Anderson, 104, was born November 4, 1898 in Ransom County.
He attended school in Barnes County and later the Twin City Barber College in Minneapolis, Minn. where he received his license in 1920. He moved to Lisbon in 1922 where he worked at the Allison Barber Shop, becoming the owner in 1929 and renaming it Central Barber Shop. He married
Minnie Olson, June 16. 1926. Carl retired in 1962 whereupon they spent their summers at their Minnesota lake home and their winters in Arizona. He has resided at Parkside Lutheran Home in Lisbon since 1996 when his wife died. An avid sportsman, Carl enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, bowling and skiing, as well as dancing and playing cards. He joined the Lisbon Golf Course in 1924, served on the Lisbon Park Board for 18 years, is an honorary member of the Lisbon Fire Department and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his daughter Joyce (Charles) Anderson, Forman, N.D.; a son, Charles (Lois) Anderson, Missoula, Mont.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. His parents, Anne and Charles, one sister and three brothers proceeded him in death.
Funeral was Tuesday, September 2, 2003 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lisbon.

Daniel G. Walker
Funeral services for Daniel G. Walker, 81, Mayville, N.D., were held on Monday, September 1, 2003 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, Mayville. Mr. Walker died Thursday, August 28, 2003 in Union Hospital, Mayville.
Daniel Greenwood Walker, son of Harry and Charlotte (Ewen) Walker was born on November 13, 1921 in Fargo. He attended school in Mayville, graduating from Mayville High School and Mayville State College. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp. from 1942 to 1945. He spent time in a P.O.W. camp in Germany.
On July 11, 1945, he married
Marguerite Gaffney. Daniel taught social studies and coached track, basketball and football in Northwood, N.D. until moving back to Mayville, where he farmed and was a rural letter carrier for 37 years. He retired in 1987. Daniel was active in the Knights of Columbus, having served as Grand Knight. He was also Scoutmaster for the Mayville Boy Scout troop for many years.
He is survived by his wife Marguerite, Mayville; six sons, Donovan (Anne) Walker, Libby, Mont., Dwight (Mari) Walker, St. Cloud, Minn., Mark (Mary Lou) Walker, Fargo, Scott Walker, Eveleth, Minn., Patrick (Michelle) Walker, Lisbon, Fred (fiancee-Michelle) Walker, Bismarck; two daughters, Cheryl Esch, Racine, Wis., and Kim Walker, Birmingham, Ala.; sister-in-law, Jane Kegel, Moorhead; 22 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Charlotte Walker, and brothers, Benson and Robert.
Interment at Mayville Cemetery, Mayville.

Dorothy Mae Dick
Funeral services for Dorothy Mae Dick, 77, Englevale, N.D., were held on Wednesday, September 3, 2003 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Englevale. Reverend David Isaacson officiated. Mrs. Dick died Sunday, August 31, 2003 at Innovis Hospital, Fargo.
Dorothy Mae Stroh, daughter of John and Anna Lois (Hedlund) Stroh was born on March 11, 1926 in rural Elliott. She graduated from Elliott School. Dorothy taught at a rural school near Elliott before her marriage.
On February 27, 1945, she married
Harold Dick, in Lisbon. They farmed near Englevale. Dorothy worked at Dahlgren’s in Lisbon and for Streich Potato Farms near Englevale. She was a member of the Elliott Beehive Homemakers Club and Good Shepherd WELCA.
She is survived by her husband Harold Dick, Englevale; three sons, David (Paulette) Dick Lisbon, Tom (Arlean) Dick, Englevale, and Mike (Patty) Dick, Englevale; two daughters, Diana (Douglas) Dalve, Fergus Falls, and Sandee (Brian) Bittner, Fargo; 17 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and one sister, Shirley (Wayne) Hanson, Valley City. She was preceded in death by brothers, Lawrence, Edwin and Raymon and two grandchildren, Shane and Shannon.
Pallbearers for the funeral were John Heacox, Jerrod Heacox, Tyler Dick, Paul Dick, Jason Dick, and Brent Dick.
Music was provided by organist Larry Dick and soloist Allison Mairs. Special music by her grandchildren.
Interment at Dick Cemetery, rural Englevale.

Dorothy M. Eastman
Funeral services for Dorothy M. Eastman, 94, Lisbon, were held on Friday, September 5, 2003 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lisbon. Reverend Norman Anderson and Reverend David Killeen officiated. Mrs. Eastman died Thursday, August 28, 2003 at Elk Mountain, Wyo.
Dorothy M. Oliver, daughter of Patrick and Laura (Polk) Oliver was born on May 20, 1909 in Moline, Ill. She attended Lisbon School and graduated from Fargo High School.
On July 6, 1927, she married
Donald W. Eastman in Moorhead, Minn. They lived in Lisbon where Dorothy had worked part-time at Trom Drug.
She is survived by two sons, Donald (Shirley) Eastman, Sun City West, Ariz. and Patrick (Evette) Eastman, Elk Mountain, Wyo.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Eastman and one brother, Omer.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Pat Eastman, Dick Eastman, Joel Leineke, Renee Hart, Patrick Eastman, Daniel Eastman. Honorary Pallbearers were Michael Eastman, Charles Muralt, Bruce Iserman, Mike McNally, Don Mykland, Curt Mairs, Keith Dick, Mike Hart and Mike Mykland.
Music was provided by organist Jan Hansen and soloist Joan Montgomery.
Interment at Oakwood Cemetery, Lisbon.

Edna Pierce
Funeral services for Edna Pierce, 96, Cannon Falls, Minn., were held on Saturday, September 13, 2003 in United Methodist Church, Detroit Lakes. Mrs. Pierce died Monday, August 25, 2003 in Angels Care Center, Cannon Falls.
Edna Wahl was born on December 2, 1906 in Cathay, N.D. She graduated from Valley City State University.
In 1942, she married
Thomas Pierce. During World War II she worked at Union Station in Washington, D.C. She taught school in Enderlin. After retiring, she lived for many years at Cotton Lake near Detroit Lakes, and moved to Cannon Falls two years ago.
She is survived by two sons, Thomas W. (Carolyn), Detroit Lakes, Patrick James (Deborah) Pierce, Cannon Falls; one sister, Verna Wahl, San Francisco; and five grandchildren.
Interment at Enderlin Cemetery, Enderlin.
Norma M. Arntson
Funeral services for Norma M. Arntson, 91 Lisbon, were held on Tuesday, September 2, 2003 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lisbon. Reverend Norman Anderson and Reverend David Killeen officiated. Miss Arntson died Friday, August 29, 2003 at Lisbon Area Health Services, Lisbon.
Norma M. Arntson, daughter of I.E. and Karen (Walla) Arntson was born on February 29, 1912 in Lisbon. She attended school in Lisbon, graduating in 1930. Norma attended NDSU where she received a degree in Chemistry. She taught school in Rolla, N.D. for one year and a year teaching in rural Lisbon. She worked at the Ransom County Court House for three years before enrolling in the University of Minnesota’s medical technology program. She then worked in Sioux City, Iowa for six years, in Spokane, Wash., for two years, and in Great Falls, Mont. for 14 years. When she was 51 years old she went to New Guinea as a medical missionary for the Lutheran Church. She spent 12 years there building a medical laboratory and sharing her knowledge with the people of New Guinea. She retired to Hamilton, Mont. In 1996 she moved back to Lisbon where she lived at the Beverly Anne until moving to Parkside in October 2000. While living in Hamilton she was active in Faith Lutheran Church.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Nels, Eric, Edgar and Kenneth.
Pallbearers for the funeral were her nieces and nephews.
Music was provided by organist Cindy Hagel, soloist Joan Montgomery, and a flute solo by Paul Arntson.
Interment at Oakwood Cemetery, Lisbon.

Margaret Rose
Funeral services for Margaret Rose, 63, Fargo, were held on Saturday, August 30, 2003 at Gethsemene Episcopal Cathedral, Fargo. Mrs. Rose died Thursday, August 28, 2003 in Fargo.
Margaret Shortall, daughter of Louis F. and Dorothy (Smith) Shortall was born on November 4, 1939 in Easton, Md.
She married
Clayton Rose of Montgomery County, Md. Prior to Mr. Rose’s death in 1998, the couple made their home in Smyrna, Del., after which Mrs. Rose moved to Lisbon to live near her daughters.
She is survived by two daughters, Ms. Elizabeth Rose, Lisbon and Shelley (John) Silvernail, Lisbon; two grandchildren; one sister, Lois (James) Stevens, Greensboro, Md; brother-in-law, Robert R. (Susan) Rose, Chicago, Ill.
Interment at Easton, Md.
