Vingner B. Bratland
Funeral services for Vingner B. Bratland, 93, Enderlin, formerly Sheldon, were held on Saturday, November 22, 2003 at First Lutheran Church, Enderlin. Reverend Leon Zavadil officiated. Mr. Bratland died Tuesday, November 18, 2003 at Maryhill Manor, Enderlin.
Vingner B. Bratland, son of John and Hannah (Hansen) Bratland was born on September 14, 1910 in Basmoen, Norway. In 1914 he moved with his parents and six of his nine siblings to the U.S. and settled in Richland County, N.D. He attended Helendale School.
On October 16, 1937, he married Gladys Anderson, in Kindred. They began farming near Leonard and then Walcott. In March 1941 they moved near Sheldon where they farmed until 1975 when they retired. They continued to live on the farm. In 1996 Vingner moved to Sheldon. He entered Maryhill Manor in July of 2001. He was a charter member of the Sheldon Lions Club, had served as Shenford Township supervisor and on First Lutheran Church Council. In 1978 he was inducted in the N.D. Horseshoe Pitchers Hall of Fame.
He is survived by two sons, Leo (Deborah) Bratland, Danville, Ill., Richard (Betty) Bratland, Sheldon; one daughter, Edith (Dennis) Mosbrucker, Dickinson, son-in-law, Wesley Myhre, Fargo; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Lois and Virginia and nine siblings.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Mark Myhre, Jon Myhre, Paul Myhre, Trent Bratland, Erik Bratland, Kirk Bueling, and Shawn Kudena.
Music was provided by organist Shirley Hanson and soloist Paul Billing.
Interment at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, rural Leonard.
Armstrong Funeral Home, Enderlin, was in charge of arrangements.

Norma M. Cooper
Memorial services for Norma M. Cooper, 76, Forest Grove, Ore., were held on Friday, November 7, 2003 at United Church of Christ, Forest Grove, Ore. Reverend Leon Zavadil (graveside) and Reverend Richard Kroll officiated. Mrs. Cooper died Wednesday, October 29, 2003 at Tuality Community Hospital, Hillsboro, Ore.
Norma Olson, daughter of Harold and Clara (Henrickson) Olson was born on May 12, 1927 in Enderlin. She attended school in Enderlin and Minneapolis. She attended Moorhead State University.
On August 22, 1948, she married Elburn Cooper. They moved to Forest Grove in 1952. Norma served as the music librarian at Pacific University for several years and played her flute in Pacific's Community Orchestra. She played often in the Theatre in The Grove Orchestra and had organized the orchestra for many of the musical productions. Norma enjoyed playing in her family’s woodwind quintet. She played many times in her church, United Church of Christ, where she also sang in the choir.
She is survived by her husband Elburn Cooper, Forest Grove, Ore.; three daughters, Pam (Steve) Jerrett, Gales Creek, Ore., Kim (David) Hughes, Maple Valley, Wash., Melanie (Keith) Feilzer, Forest Grove, Ore.; nine grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two infant sons, Dwight and Jeff.
Interment at Enderlin Cemetery.

John E. Faller
Funeral services for John E. Faller, 70, Lisbon, were held on Tuesday, November 4, 2003 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lisbon. Reverend Norman Anderson and Reverend David Killeen officiated. Mr. Faller died November 1, 2003 in his home under Hospice care.
John E. Faller, son of Ernest and Ida (Colson) Faller was born on February 1, 1933 in rural Lisbon. He attended rural Lisbon school.
On May 1, 1954, he married Joanne R. Himebaugh, in Lisbon. They farmed near Lisbon. In 1977 they moved into Lisbon. John continued farming until 1993. He also worked for the Lisbon Post Office from 1981 to 1993. He had served on the Trinity Lutheran Church Council. She died July 16, 2003.
He is survived by one son, Robin Faller, Lisbon; four daughters, Rita (Terry) Loomis, Lisbon, Lori (Arden) Shulstad, Vergas, Minn., Tracy (Alvin) Wyckoff, Bowman, N.D. and Susanne (David) Olson, Lisbon; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one brother, Timothy (Kathy) Faller, Hettinger, N.D. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne and two brothers, Ernest and Curt.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Duane Cole, Paul Fee, Craig Wiltse, Jack Puhr, Jerry Joubert, Randy Faller, Mark Faller, Marsha Kemp. Honorary pallbearers were Jerald Olson, Harley Hiam, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Music was provided by organist Jan Hansen, vocalists Frank Lyons and Rochelle Satlak accompanied by Chad Loomis on guitar.
Interment at Oakwood Cemetery, Lisbon.

John W. Johnson
John W. Johnson, 67, Apache Junction, Ariz. formerly Hendrum and Ada, Minn. died Tuesday, October 21, 2003 in Apache Junction. Mr. Johnson was born in Gwinner, N.D. on November 4, 1935 to G. Arthur and Beulah (Putnam) Johnson. Fredrickson Valley Funeral Home, Halstad, Minn. was in charge of arrangements.

Maurice E. Seelig
Funeral services for Maurice E. Seelig, 71, Warrenton, Ore., were held on Saturday, October 25, 2003. Mr. Seelig died Monday, October 20, 2003 at Astoria, Ore.
Maurice E. Seelig, son of Edward Seelig and Martha (Falk, Seelig) Olson was born on February 9, 1932 in Lisbon. He attended school in Lisbon. Mr. Seelig enlisted into the Army when he was 18 and served during the Korean Conflict, stationed in Alaska when Alaska was not part of the United States. His parents moved to Warrenton, Ore. while he was in the service and when his term ended, he moved to Warrenton, and has resided there since.
On February 9, 1954, he married Joanne Richardson, in Warrenton, Ore. Maurice worked at Prouty Lumber Mill. He then worked for Pacific Power & Light Co. He then worked for S.P. & S. Railroad which became Burlington Northern and worked for them for over 37 years. Maurice started working as a bridge tender for the John Day Bridge, and relief tender for Youngs Bay Bridge and Clatskanie Bridge. He retired in May of 1990.
He is survived by his wife, Joanne Seelig, Warrenton, Ore.; three daughters, Karen (Mike) Dougherty, Astoria, Ore., Karla (Ron) Fortelney, Rainer, Ore., and Kristi (Bill) Davis, Warrenton, Ore.; three grandchildren; two sisters, Inez Carlson, White Fish, Mont. and Marlene Hicks, Chinook, Ore.; three brothers, Stanley Seelig, Issaqnah, Wash., Marvin Olson, Valley City, and Paul Olson, Warrenton, Ore. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Manley (Dukes) Seelig, Elton Seelig, sisters, Noreen Olson, Helen Harris and Crystal Erickson.
Interment at Ocean View Cemetery, Warrenton, Ore.
Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary, Astoria, Ore., was in charge of arrangements.

Vonnie Kane
Funeral services for Vonnie Kane, 59, Fargo, were held on Monday, November 10 in United Methodist Church, Fargo. Mrs. Kane died Wednesday, November 5, 2003 at her home in Fargo under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Vonnie Olson, daughter of Frank and Nonie Olson was born on December 10, 1943 in Detroit Lakes, Minn. She moved to Lisbon at an early age with her parents and attended Lisbon schools, graduating in 1961. Vonnie came to Valley City following graduation and worked for the County Veterans Service Office as a secretary. Vonnie then moved to Fargo in 1987 and worked for the North Dakota Department of Veterans Affairs.
In October of 1993, she married Milt Kane in Barrett, Minn. and they made their home in Fargo. She retired in 1995 and spent the winter months in Mesa, Ariz.
She is survived by her husband, Milt Kane, Fargo; one sister, Rosemary (Leroy) Adolfs, Duluth, Minn.; one brother, Allen (Dorothy) Olson, North Dakota; two step-daughters, Candance Kane, Fargo and Kelly (Butch) Flath, Valley City; step-son, Jeff (Diane) Kane, Seattle, Wash.; eight step-grandchildren; and one step great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
Interment at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.

Alden V. Cavett
Alden Cavett died Wednesday, November 5, 2003 at Parkside Nursing Facility, Lisbon, N.D.
Alden was born March 18, 1914 at rural Enderlin to Charles W. and Viola (Hillman) Cavett. He attended rural Moore Consolidated School and was a life long resident of Moore township.
He married Sibyl Hitchcock on November 9, 1935 at Britton, S.D. Until the past few months they spent their entire married life at their rural Enderlin farm.
Alden was on the township board for many years and was one of the founding members of the state township officers’ organization. He was a past Ransom County Man of the Year. Alden always saw the good in others and was a trustworthy friend who appreciated family, friends and neighbors. He will be remembered as a kind and generous husband, father, and grandfather.
Alden is survived by his wife, Sibyl, Lisbon, one daughter, Beverly (Lowell) Duval, rural Lisbon, three sons, Curtis, Mitchell, S.D., Gary (Sue), Fargo and Keith (Trudy) rural Nome, and a sister, Hazel, Bismarck as well as 24 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth, a brother, Charles and his parents.
Funeral - Saturday, November 8 at 2:00 p.m. at the Lisbon Armory, Lisbon, N.D.
Burial - Oakwood Cemetery, Lisbon, N.D.

Arvid W. Berglund
Funeral services for Arvid W. “Obbie” Berglund, 84, Enderlin, were held on Friday, January 2, 2004 at First Lutheran Church, Enderlin. Reverend Norman Anderson officiated. Mr. Berglund died Tuesday, December 30, 2003 at his home.
Arvid W. Berglund, son of Charles and Elva (Tyson) Berglund was born on January 29, 1919 in Glenfield, N.D. He attended Enderlin School, graduating in 1938. He had served in the CCC’s. Mr. Berglund served in the U.S. Army during WWII.
On June 15, 1946, he married Mae Johanneson, in Lisbon. Obbie worked on the Soo Line Railroad until August 1969 when he retired because of a disability. He was a charter member of the Enderlin VFW.
He is survived by his wife, Mae Berglund; two sons, Arvid Jr. (Laura) Berglund, Las Cruces, N.M., Darrell (Kathy) Berglund, Hazen, N.D.; two daughters, Doreen (John) Oehlke, Enderlin, and Elva (Jerry) Engstrom, Enderlin; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one brother, Charles (Gloria) Berglund, Port Orchard, Wash. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Adolph, Bernie and John.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Ross Berglund, Wayne Berglund, Arnie Bratland, Jerome Klonecky, Leo Reis, and Al Stolz.
Honorary pallbearers for the funeral were his grandchildren.
Music was provided by soloist Jack Armstrong.
Interment at Enderlin Cemetery, Enderlin.
