Richard S. Brumfield
Funeral services for Richard S. Brumfield, 74, Fargo, were held on Wednesday, January 7, 2004 at Lutheran Church of the Cross, West Fargo. Mr. Brumfield Saturday, January 3, 2004 in his home under the care of Hospice.
Richard S. Brumfield, son of Gene and Viola Brumfield was born on May 17, 1928 in Forman. He lived there until moving to Enderlin where he lived until 1951. Dick served in the Army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953 when he returned to North Dakota.
On April 1, 1951, he married Betty Lee Sayler in Enderlin. Richard studied at the Wahpeton School of Science from 1953 to 1955 when he received a degree in Architectural Drafting and Estimating. They came to Fargo in 1955 when he began work with Bardwell Robinson Co. and was with them until 1965. He then worked for Anderson Windows until 1968. Dick worked for the State Lab in Bismarck, the Cass County Health Department and retired from the City of Fargo Health Department in 1989. He was president of the Fargo Eagles Club in 1980.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Lee, Fargo; one son, Richard (Rhoda) Brumfield, Jr., Cincinnati, Ohio; two daughters, Lurale March, Florida, Sandra (Terry) Baumgarten, Peoria, Ill; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Roberta (Kent) Cable, Grand Forks; and one brother, Roger (Audrey) Brumfield, West Fargo. He was preceded in death by his parents, two children, Yvonne and Richelle, and great-grandson Michael Baumgarten.
Interment at Enderlin City Cemetery, Enderlin.

Ada J. McDonald
Funeral services for Ada J. McDonald, 81, Yakima, Wash., were held on Monday, January 12, 2004 at Shaw and Sons, Yakima. Reverend Shide from Central Lutheran Church officiated. Mrs. McDonald died Wednesday, January 7, 2004 at Heritage Grove Nursing Home.
Ada Jewel Groth, daughter of Orlie and Adell Groth was born on January 5, 1923 in Enderlin. She graduated from Lisbon High School and Concordia College, Moorhead, Minn.
Ada was a member of Central Lutheran Church and for more than 50 years taught preschoolers at Vacation Bible Schools in both North Dakota and Yakima. She retied from Providence Yakima Medical Center after earning her 30-year pin.
She is survived by one son, John McDonald, Yakima; two daughters, Joyce Miller, Yakima and Joan Hale, Lompoc, Calif; brothers, Virgil Groth, Mineral, Wash., L. Arthur Groth, Kalamath Falls, Ore. and Willis Groth, New Mexico; one sister, DeLois Groth Cramer, Santa Barbara, Calif; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and three brothers.
Interment at Terrace Heights Memorial Gardens, Yakima.

Anton J. Krulish
Funeral services for Anton J. Krulish, 79, Lisbon, formerly Petersburg, N.D., were held on Friday, January 16, 2004 at New Life Fellowship, rural Hamar, N.D. Reverend Jeff Kapelle officiated. Mr. Krulish died Sunday, January 11, 2004 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Fargo.
Anton J. Krulish, son of Joseph and Mary (Benesh) Krulish was born on January 13, 1924 at Volga, S.D. He was raised and educated in South Dakota. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on May 7, 1942 at Minneapolis, Minn. and served his country in the South Pacific during World War II. He was honorably discharged as a corporal on May 7, 1946 at San Francisco, Calif. Anton traveled and lived at various cities in the United States, working mainly in the farming and construction sector. He lived at Petersburg, N.D. since 1976.
He is survived by his companion, Cora Iceman, Fort Totten, N.D., N.D.; three daughters, Arliss (Doug) Lohnes, Tokio, N.D. Arlene (Frank) De la Pac, Fort Totten and Shelly (John) Pipe, Wolf Point, Mont.; 16 grandchildren; one brother, Calvin (Arlene) Krulish, Watertown, S.D.; and one sister, Ramana Krulish, Portland, Ore. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Russell Krulish.
Pallbearers for the funeral were John Pipe, Buddy Pipe, Randall De la Paz, Francisco De la Paz, Doug Lohnes, Anton Krulish, Dan Krulish and Donald Belgrade.
Music was provided by organist Karol Kapelle.
Interment at Devils Lake Cemetery.

Arthur A. Jacobson
Funeral services for Arthur A. Jacobson, 92, Valley City, were held on Saturday, January 17, 2004 at Faith Lutheran Church, Valley City. Reverend Thomas Peterson officiated. Mr. Jacobson died Tuesday, January 13, 2004 at Mercy Hospital in Valley City.
Arthur Arnold Jacobson, son of John and Sofia (Jacobson) Jacobson was born on May 22, 1911 near Fort Ransom. He grew up on the family farm and attended rural school in the Fort Ransom area.
On January 16, 1949, he married Magdalene Wanner at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Verona. The couple lived and farmed together near Fort Ransom until 1977 when they retired and moved into Valley City. Arthur enjoyed working on radios and televisions and ran a repair business out of his home for a number of years. Arthur was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Valley City.
He is survived by his wife Magdalene; three daughters, Laura (Robert) Weisz, Mitchell, S.D., Linda Jacobson, Redwood Falls, Minn. and Mary (Robert) Fetsch, Grand Forks; six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and four sisters.
Interment at Standing Rock Cemetery, Fort Ransom in the spring.

Fred G. Ward
Funeral services for Fred G. Ward, 92, Fort Ransom, N.D., were held on Saturday, January 10, 2004 at Standing Rock Lutheran Church, Fort Ransom. Reverend David Carlson officiated. Mr. Ward died Wednesday, January 7, 2004 at St. Catherine’s Living Center, Wahpeton.
Fred G. Ward, son of George and Mary (Putnam) Ward was born on March 5, 1911 in Lidgerwood. He attended school in the Lidgerwood/Hankinson area.
On September 7, 1931, he married Hazel Enfield in Park Rapids, Minn. They farmed near Hankinson for several years. Fred also rode broncs in rodeos and trained horses. They moved to Fort Ransom in 1953. Fred owned and operated Fred’s Corral for ten years. He also collected and sold guns and antiques. She died May 16, 1992.
He is survived by one daughter, Doraine (Kermit) Olson, West Fargo; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one sister, Georgie (Bill) Wieser, Hankinson.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Bryan Olson, Brent Olson, Wayne Gronbeck, Sid Schmidt, Bradley Ward, and Clayton Wieser.
Music was provided by organist Mary Johnson.
Interment at Standing Rock Lutheran Cemetery, Fort Ransom.
Armstrong Funeral Home, Lisbon, was in charge of arrangements.

Carolyn J. Stevens
Funeral services for Carolyn Joanne Stevens, 60, Enderlin, were held on Thursday, February 19, 2004 at Armstrong Funeral Home, Enderlin. Reverend Mike Toomey officiated. Mrs. Stevens died Tuesday, February 17, 2004 at her home in Enderlin.
Carolyn Joanne Stevens, daughter of Calvin Joseph and Abilee (Baker) Derpinghaus was born on November 8, 1943 in Oklahoma City, Okla. She attended school in Oklahoma City and in Germany.
Carolyn lived in California for a few years. She moved to Richmond, Va. where she worked at General Electric for 17 years and Ruffin and Payne Lumber Co. for 14 years. She moved to Enderlin March 31, 2003. She worked for the Sheldon School.
She is survived by one daughter, Joanna Lee Stevens, Glen Allen, Va.; two sons, William (Judy) Malachi Stevens, Glen Allen, Va. and Calvin Wade (Tammy) Stevens, West Fargo; ten grandchildren; and a special friend, Sandy L. Kelly, Enderlin.
Armstrong Funeral Home, Enderlin, was in charge of arrangements.

Cora E. Roumaine
Memorial services for Cora E. Roumaine, 80, Mesa, Ariz., were held on Friday, February 20, 2004. Mrs. Roumaine died Sunday, February 15, 2004.
Cora Elizabeth Carlson, daughter of Henry and Annie Carlson was born on June 11, 1923 in Nome.
She married Cal Roumaine. They lived in Chicago, Ill. until 1991 when they retired to Mesa, Ariz. First Baptist Church of Mesa has been their Church home since 1993.
She is survived by her husband Cal, Mesa, Ariz.; two sons, Dwight Roumaine, Mesa, Douglas (Heidi) Roumaine, Gray, Maine; one brother, Levi Carlson, Nome. She was preceded in death by her parents and four siblings.
Interment at at Valley of the Sun Cemetery, Chandler, Ariz.
Mariposa Gardens Memorial Park and Funeral Care, Mesa, Ariz., was in charge of arrangements.

Leonard A. Nordick
Funeral services for Leonard A. Nordick, 79, rural Rothsay, Minn., were held on Thursday, February 19, 2004 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Breckenridge, Minn. Father Ken Popp officiated. Mr. Nordick died Friday, February 13, 2004 surrounded by his family at his home.
Leonard Anthony Nordick, was born September 29, 1924 at Kent, Minn. the first child of Louis and Elizabeth (DeBoever) Nordick. He grew up on the farm at rural Kent and attended District School #75. Following his formal education, he stayed at home and farmed with his parents.
On August 11, 1948, he was united in marriage to Angeline Miranowski at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Breckenridge, Minn. The couple made their home on a farm near Kent until 1955, when they moved to a farm on County Road 16, southwest of Rothsay, where they have lived for the past 47 years. He never retired from farming.
Leonard enjoyed having his grandchildren visiting with him on the farm. He would always ask when they had a break coming so they could come and stay there. He had the grandchildren in the tractor or combine with him, or in the barns with his dairy cows or horses. When younger, Leonard enjoyed riding horses with his children. In the later years, he quit riding and worked with his Draft horses. He loved to talk about the “Good Old Days” with friends neighbors and family. He was an encyclopedia of information for many younger folks restoring horse equipment, talking about history and training horses. He was known to many going to the lakes as “the man on the curve of County Road 16 with horses.” Many people would stop to watch his horses in the pasture. People both young and old would walk up to the fence to pet the horses. Leonard was known for his outstanding quality and well trained horses across the United States. He was asked to participate in many parades with his horses and equipment. The highlight of working with the draft horses was when one horse he had raised and trained was pulling the sleigh in John Denver’s Christmas Special, filmed on a Montana ranch. He enjoyed listening to the sound of the soil turning over as he plowed the land with his horses - and the smell of the fresh over turned soil.
Leonard was a member of St. Mary’s Church, Breckenridge, Minn. the Fort Ransom Sod Busters Association, the Belgian Draft Horse Association, the Draft Hose and Mule Association of America and the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed farming and going to horse sales, especially the spring and fall horse sale in Waverly, Iowa with his friends. He said he lived for his family and his horses.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Angeline Nordick, rural Rothsay, Minn; his children Jerry (Cathy) Nordick, Rothsay, Minn, Dorothy (Leon) Muehler, Wahpeton, Darral (Laureen) Nordick, Rothsay, minn., Keith Nordick, Rothsay, Minn., Sheryl (Ardel) Kressin, Wahpeton, Cindie (Bryan) Van Tassel, Breckenridge, Minn. His eight grandchildren, Jared Nordick, Kristie and Karrie Muehler, Alyshia and Derek Nordick, Brian (Katy) Kressin, Brandon and Darin Van Tassel; two brothers, Louis (Elaine) Nordick, Moorhead, Minn. Ralph (Vonnie) Nordick, Lake Park, Minn; two sisters, Grace (Gerald) Krump, Brekenridge, Minn. Ruth Triepke, Dalton, Minn. He was preceded in death by his parents Louis and Elizabeth Nordick and his two brothers, Warren and Alvin.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Jim Miranowski, Randy Nordick, Terry Terfehr, Ron Krump, Paul Miranowski, and Rodney Lugert. Honorary Pallbearers were members of the Fort Ransom Sodbusters Association and all who called Leonard “friend”.
Interment at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Breckenridge, Minn.
Jos. Vertin & Sons Funeral Home, Breckenridge was in charge of arrangements.
