Mildred E. Hanson
Funeral services for Mildred E. Hanson, 89, Lisbon, were held on Saturday, January 31, 2004 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lisbon. Reverend Norman Anderson and Reverend David Killeen officiated. Mrs. Hanson died Sunday, January 25, 2004 at Parkside Home, Lisbon.
Mildred E. Oliphant, daughter of Arthur and Mattie (Morton) Oliphant was born on January 20, 1915 in rural Elliott. She attended Elliott School, graduating from Elliott High School.
On June 14, 1933, she married
Nels A. Hanson in Lisbon. They operated a dairy farm west of Lisbon before moving into Lisbon in 1975.
She is survived by one son, Robin (Diane) Hanson, Lisbon; one daughter, Joann (Orvall) Schmidt, Andover, Kan.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Helen Oliphant, Bethany Homes, Fargo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nels Hanson, a sister Viola and a brother, Sterling.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Orville Milbrandt, Larry Stroh, Randy Huether, George Ick, Gary Hansen, and David Sletto.
Music was provided by organist Jan Hansen and soloist Arlys Carter.
Interment at Oakwood Cemetery, Lisbon.

Florence V. Oeder
Funeral services for Florence V. Oeder, 97, Enderlin, were held on Friday, January 30, 2004 at Armstrong Funeral Home, Enderlin. Reverend Leon Zavadil officiated. Miss Oeder died Monday, January 26, 2004 at Maryhill Manor, Enderlin.
Florence V. Oeder, daughter of Otto and Emma (Dehn) Oeder was born on March 1, 1906 in Richmond, Ind. The family moved to Wausau, Wis. After Florence’s mother died in 1910, she and her three younger brothers came to live with Grandma and Grandpa Dehn on their farm near Enderlin. Florence attended rural Enderlin School and graduated from Enderlin High School in 1924. She attended Business College in Fargo. She worked as a secretary for Bangert and Francis Law Firm in Enderlin. She worked in Minneapolis for a short time before returning to the farm as a housekeeper for her uncle Art Dehn. In 1965 they moved into Enderlin where she worked for Mertz Jewelry and for Alice Schwandt, American Legion State Secretary. She was a 4-H leader for several years and a member of Homemaker’s Club.
She is survived by two half sisters, Myrtle Oeder, Enderlin and Doris Oeder, Enderlin.
Pallbearers were her nieces and nephews.
Music was provided by organist Verna Armstrong.

Philip R. McMahon
Funeral services for Philip R. McMahon, 86, Lisbon, were held on Saturday, January 31, 2004 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Lisbon. Father Andrew Dudzinski officiated. Mr. McMahon died Wednesday, January 28, 2004 at Parkside Lutheran Home, Lisbon.
Philip R. McMahon, son of Stephen and Rachel (Smith) McMahon was born on September 24, 1917 in Driscoll, N.D. He attended school in rural Grandin, N.D. Mr. McMahon served as Chief Gunner’s Mate in the U.S. Navy from 1940-1946.
On January 21, 1943, he married
Geraldine Conrad in Moorhead, Minn. Phil worked for farmers near Grandon, N.D. After military service they moved near Lisbon where they farmed until 1980. He was a member of the VFW and KC’s.
He is survived by his wife, Geraldine McMahon, Lisbon; three sons, Tim, McMahon, Lisbon, Michael McMahon, Lisbon, Patrick McMahon, Lisbon; six daughters, Christie (Larry) Urbach, Lisbon, Sally Iverson, Lisbon, Sheila (Tim) Elijah, West Fargo, Donna Maas, Everett, Wash., Kathy (Doug) Sommerfeld, Lisbon and Roberta (Steve) Olson, Lisbon;19 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Joseph McMahon, Lisbon, Richard (Betty) McMahon, Colorado Springs, Colo, Robert McMahon, Lisbon, Ted (Joyce) McMahon, Rucson, Ariz.; and one sister, Barbara LeDoux, Bothell, Wash. He was preceded in death by one son, Lawrence.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Tim Urbach, Greg Iverson, Jamie Iverson, David Iverson, Sean Iverson, Steven Maas, Larry Sommerfeld, Christopher Olson and Tristan McMahon.
Music was provided by organist Kathy Kwapinski and cantor Ken Berntson.
Interment at St. Aloysius Catholic Cemetery, Lisbon.

Joseph F. Caddell
Funeral services for Joseph F. Caddell, 81, Amarillo, Texas, were held on Thursday, January 22, 2004 in Trinity Lutheran Church. Reverend Brian Hesse officiated. Mr. Caddell died Sunday, January 18, 2004.
Joseph F. Caddell, son of Osie and Sara Caddell was born on July 7, 1922 in Eunice, N.M. He was retired from the Air Force, having served in World War II and the Korean conflict. He later worked as a transportation supervisor for Pantex. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
On June 1, 1946, he married
Lorelle Cole, a Lisbon native, in San Antonio. She died in 1997. He later married
Caroline Wisker in Amarillo on November 23, 2001. She died in 2003.
He is survived by three daughters, Debra Hackett, Amarillo, Karel Bennett, Midland and Rita Steiner, Palmer; two sons, Loren Caddell, Amarillo and Marvin Caddell, Freetown, Mass.; two step-daughters, Carol Echternach, Hastings, Neb., and Marge Focken, Bassett, Neb.; a stepson, Hal Wisker, Amarillo; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren and 13 step-great-grandchildren.

Raymond J. Holkestad
Raymond J. Holkestad, 84, Oceanside, Calif., died Tuesday, January 6, 2004 at Tri-City Medical Center.
Raymond J. Holkestad was born on July 9, 1919 in North Dakota. He lived in Oceanside for 24 years. He retired in 1961 from Lees Bars-N-Stools. He served with the USO entertaining troops. He sang in a barbershop quartet. He was a member of the Long Beach Civic Light Opera.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Holkestad, Oceanside; daughters, Randi (Frank) Sardina, Lakeside, Betty (Gary) Humenik, Long Beach; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ernest (Clare) Holkestad, Colton, Wash., Johnny (Betty) Holkestad, Madeira Beach, Fla.; and one sister, Jeanette Smedshammer, Lisbon.
There was a private cremation ceremony with ashes scattered at sea.
Charley G. Peterson
Funeral services for Charley G. Peterson, 72, Fargo, were held on Saturday, February 7, 2004 in West Funeral Home Chapel, West Fargo. Mr. Peterson died Wednesday, February 4, 2004 in his home under the care of Hospice.
Charley G. Peterson was born on February 9, 1931 near Enderlin. He was raised and attended rural schools in the Enderlin and Lisbon area. Charley worked on the family farm until serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1954.
On October 6, 1954, he married
Magdaline Morth at Fingal. They lived in Fargo until moving to Horace, where they lived for 18 years until moving back to Fargo. Charley was employed in Fargo at Fargo Tank Co., Concrete Sectional, Acme Welding, Hart Motor Express, Midwest Motor Express and Thom Linen until retiring.
He is survived by his wife Maggie, Fargo; four sons, Larry (Mary) Peterson, Willmar, Minn., Stanley (Judy) Peterson, Shafer, Minn., Arnie (Tamie) Peterson, West Fargo, Art (Mary) Peterson, West Fargo; one daughter, Deb (David) Soland, Moorhead; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by by a granddaughter and several brothers and sisters.
Interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo.

Melba E. Quast
Funeral services for Melba E. Quast, 93, Parkside Lutheran Home, Lisbon, former Minneapolis, Minn. and Brampton, N.D. area resident, were held on Friday, February 6, 2004 at the Price Funeral Chapel, Forman, N.D. Reverend Steve Olson officiated. Mrs. Quast died Saturday, January 31, 2004 at Parkside Lutheran Home, Lisbon.
Melba E. Naffziger, daughter of August and Bertha (Shnider) Naffziger was born on November 17, 1910 at Deer Creek, Ill. At the age of 10, she moved with her family to the Dickey County, North Dakota area, where she completed her education. She worked for many years sewing fur coats, first for Hank’s Fur Store in Fargo, and later for Schlemp’s Fur Store in Minneapolis. She also spent a short time working in Washington state. She retired in the mid 1970s and continued to make her home in Minneapolis. In her retirement Melba would spend time on the family farm west of Brampton. Later, she and her sister Emagene, stayed on the farm with their brother, Milo, to assist him until his death in 1999. After his death, she an Emagene remained on the farm. In January of 2002 she moved to Parkside in Lisbon.
She is survived by her sister, Emagene Naffziger, Brampton, N.D.; two grandsons; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and a son, Robert, who died in 1999.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Greg Quast, Jeff Quast, Harrison Quast, Harvey Dawson, Michael Willprecht and Roy Hilderbrandt.
Music was provided by organist Deloris Hassebroek and soloist Henry Hassebroek.
Interment at Sargent Cemetery, Cogswell.

Gordon E. Hagen
Funeral services for Gordon E. Hagen, 89, Fargo, were held on Thursday, February 5, 2004 at Olivet Lutheran Church, Fargo. Mr. Hagen died Saturday, January 31, 2004 at Innovis Hospital, Fargo under hospice care.
Gordon E. Hagen, son of Einar and Gena Hagen was born on September 2, 1914 in Walcott. Gordon served his country as a First Sergeant in World War II in the Philippine Islands, New Guinea and Luzon. He received numerous decorations and citations for his courageous service and leadership.
Upon his return from service, Gordon married
Kathleen Otterson and farmed for several years in the Walcott area. The couple moved to Fargo in 1956. Gordon worked for the Fargo Foundry, Needham Packing and Metropolitan Savings and Loan. Gordon and Kathleen were active members of Olivet Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen, Fargo; son, Doug (Beret) Hagen, Minnetonka, Minn.; two sisters Luvern (Dick) Hutchinson, Hillsboro and Myrtle Larkin, Dallas, Texas; one brother, Art Hagen, McLeod and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two infant children.
Interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo.
