Leah Corning
Funeral services for Leah Corning, 80, Jamestown, were held on Saturday, March 13, 2004 at the Grace Episcopal Church, Jamestown. Mrs. Corning died Monday, March 8, 2004 at her home in Jamestown.
Leah Radspinner, daughter of Frank and Zella (Barrickman) Radspinner was born on February 26, 1924 in Madison, S.D. She grew up and graduated from high school in Madison, then moved to Sioux Falls, S.D. With the advent of World War II, she worked in California, later moving back to Sioux Falls.
On March 27, 1948, she married Leon Corning, in Sioux Falls. They moved to Jamestown in 1964, where her husband was Superintendent of the North Dakota Fish Hatchery at Spiritwood Lake. They lived there until 1995 when she moved to Jamestown. She worked for the Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service for 28 years, retiring in 1984. In 1969-70 she held the office of State President of N.D. Business and Professional Women's Organization. While living at Spiritwood Lake she served on the City Council and Sec/Treas. of the Lake Association. She served on the Stutsman County Park board and was on the Building Committee and Board for the Stutsman County Law Enforcement Center. As a communicant of Grace Episcopal Church she served on the Vestry and over twenty years as the Treasurer. She also served at the Diocesan, Provincial, and National level of the Episcopal Church. She was Assistant Treasurer of the North Dakota Episcopal Diocese and served on the Finance committee and the Diocesan Council. She also served on the Camp Rokiwan Board. She helped secure the Dialysis Unit at the Jamestown Hospital in 1992.
She is survived by four sisters, Doris (Clarence) Rongley, Madison, S.D., Wanda (Charles) Bork, Wenatchee, Wash., Frances Gregg, Warsaw, Mo. and Norma Jean (Blaine) Johnson, Mesa, Ariz.; one brother Warren Radspinner, Madison, S.D. and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two sisters, Vera Fletcher and Naomi Klinghagen.
Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown, was in charge of arrangements.

Dianne Louise Embacher
A memorial service for Dianne Louise Embacher, 64, was held Friday, February 20, 2004 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Roy, Utah. Mrs. Embacher died Tuesday, February 17, 2004, at University Hospital, Salt Lake City, Utah.
Dianne was born March 15, 1939, in New Ulm, Minn., the daughter of Raymond and Gladys Ries. She graduated from Lewiston High School, Idaho, in 1957.
On October 27, 1957, she married Terrance Tipton in Lewiston. They had three children. They later divorced.
On May 6, 1995, she married Bill Embacher in New Ulm, Minn.
Dianne is survived by her husband Bill; her children, Twain (Donna) Tipton, Peter’s Creek, Ala., Kim (Jeff) Scholtec, Plain City, Utah, Shane Tipton, Anchorage, Ala.; Kim Embacher, Carrie (Dave) Forstner, Brenda (John) Nosbush, New Ulm, Minn., Chris (April) Embacher, Lake Crystal, Minn., and Lee Embacher, St. Cloud, Minn.; three sisters, Jo (Carroll) Elijah, Janice (Paul) Kretsch, New Ulm, Minn., Rosie Gilbert; and one brother, LaRay (Elaine) Ries, Lisbon; 17 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law, John Gilbert.

Gary B. Schwab
Funeral services for Gary B. Schwab, 51, Englevale, were held Thursday, February 26, 2004 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Englevale, with Rev. David Isaacson officiating. Mr. Schwab died Sunday, February 22, 2004 at Lisbon Area Health Services, Lisbon.
Gary B. Schwab was born December 26, 1952 in Lisbon, the son of Lester and Wyona (Sivertson) Schwab. He attended Englevale and Verona Schools.
On December 14, 1973, he married Margaret Crowe in Englevale. They lived in Englevale while farming near Englevale. They moved to Valley City where Gary worked for Rite-Way Vegetation Control for one year. He then did custom harvesting and worked for Valley View Farms near Lisbon. They returned to Englevale December 1, 2003.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret, Englevale; father, Lester Schwab, Englevale; four sons, Jeremy, Litchville, N.D., Christopher, Valley City, Dustin, Valley City, Brandon, Valley City; two daughters, Jodean (Leslie) Witt, LaMoure, Charity (Kyle) Pope, Valley City; five grandchildren; one brother, Greg (Shelly), West Fargo; and one sister, LaRae (Richard) Wimer, Stirum.
Pallbearers were George Gardner, Jack Olson, Donald Anderson, Al Gruby, Kevin Schwab, and Orin Bean.
Music was provided by organist Marlene Dahl and vocalists Doris Stroh and Kathy Walton.
Interment at Dick Cemetery, Englevale.
Armstrong Funeral Home, Lisbon, was in charge of arrangements.

Beverly McCullough
Funeral services for Beverly McCullough, 73, Fargo, formerly of Hope, N.D., were held Thursday, February 26, 2004 at Flame of Faith Methodist Church, West Fargo. Mrs. McCullough died Friday, February 20, 2004 in Las Vegas, Nev. while visiting family.
Beverly McCullough was born February 20, 1931 in Moorhead, Minn., the daughter of Kenneth and Pearl (Tatley) DuRose. She attended school in Moorhead, Fargo and Hope.
On October 8, 1949, she married Everett McCullough in Page, N.D. They farmed near Hope as a third-generation farm family until 1986. Bev worked as a department manager at Swanson’s Health Products in Fargo for 14 years until her retirement in 1998.
She was a member of the United Church of Hope and was currently a member of Flame of Faith Methodist Church in West Fargo. She was a member of homemakers, circles, and a couples’ card club in Hope for 40-some years.
Beverly is survived by her husband, Everett, Fargo; two daughters, Joy (Tim) Mortensen, Henderson, Nev., and Gail (Mel) Scherweit, Casselton, N.D.; two sons, Alan (Peggy) McCullough, Lisbon, and Joel (Mary) McCullough, Hope; twelve grandchildren; one brother, Bill (Patty) DuRose, Biloxi, Mis.; four sisters-in-law, Ardis (Adolph) Ihry, Hope, JoAnn (Eugene) Oelke, and Shirley (Rupert) Aman, both of Moorhead, Jean (Lester) Sampson, Glendive, Mont.; and two brothers-in-law, Vern Richardson, Minot, N.D., and Mic (LaNora) McCullough, Hope.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her youngest son, Curtis.
Interment will be at Hope Cemetery, Hope.

Evelyn J. Kriz
Funeral services for Evelyn J. Kriz, 88, Oakes, were held Monday, February 23, 2004 at St. Charles Catholic Church, Oakes, with Father Mathew Pamplaniyil as celebrant. Mrs. Kriz died Friday, February 20, 2004 at the Oakes Good Samaritan Center, Oakes.
Evelyn Josephine Wisnewski was born August 10, 1915 in Kingston Township near Cayuga, N.D. the daughter of Thomas J. and Mary (Peplinski) Wisnewski. She attended Lidgerwood High School, graduating in 1933. After her schooling, Evelyn moved to Fargo, and worked as a nanny and housekeeper.
On November 26, 1936, she married Edward E. Kriz, in Geneseo, N.D. The couple moved that year to Oakes, where Ed was the local barber. Evelyn stayed home to care for their children, and later in life worked for the St. Charles Catholic School and Oakes Hospital. Evelyn entered the Oakes Good Samaritan Center in March of 1997. Ed died December 17, 2003. Evelyn was a member of the St. Charles Catholic Church, Oakes. She was past president of the St. Charles Altar Society, a member of the Oakes Homemakers Club and Oakes Country Club.
She is survived by one son, Thomas (Judy), Hot Springs, S.D.; one daughter, Eileen Flint, Brooklyn Park, Minn.; one brother, Hubert Wisnewski, New Hope, Minn.; four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and two sisters.
Pallbearers were Garry Opp, Gary Schnell, Joe Reich, Pete Awender, Eric Kriz, and Ed Huffman.
Music was provided by soloist Alice Gross and organist Vesta Olderness.
Interment will be at St. Charles Catholic Cemetery

Marian T. Hanson
Funeral services for Marian T. Hanson, 84, Bend, Ore., were held Friday, February 27, 2004 at First United Presbyterian Church, Lisbon with Rev. Beth Conrad officiating. Mrs. Hanson died Tuesday, February 10, 2004 at Bend, Ore.
Marian was born November 16, 1919 in Moorhead, Minn., the daughter of Alfred and Julia (Huseby) Tennyson. She attended Moorhead, Minn. school, then Interstate Business College in Fargo.
On November 14, 1942, she married Howard H. Hanson in Fargo. Howard and Marian operated Hanson Motors in Lisbon for 30 plus years, beginning in 1947. They also farmed. Marian continued to manage the farming operation for several years after Howard’s death in 1986. She was known for the afghans, mittens, baby caps and sweaters that she knitted for family and friends. She was also an avid bridge player.
Marian is survived by three sons, Richard (Eve), Glendale, Ariz., Ronald (Beth), Bend, Ore., Randall (Ann), Wilmington, N.C.; one daughter, Roberta (Bradley) Grahan, Tempe, Ariz.; eleven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; 5 brothers, Lawrence, Port St. Lucie, Fla., Lloyd (Joanne), Arlington, Va., Al (Bev), Niceville, Fla., Roy (Dorothy), Perham, Minn., Don (LaVonne), Grand Forks; and three sisters, Helen Welton, Lisbon, Dolly Dye, Denver, Co., Adrianne (Alan) Greenwood, Port St. Lucie, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a son, Robert Alfred.
Inurnment at Oakwood Cemetery, Lisbon

Edward Wavra
Funeral Mass for Edward Wavra, 96, Alice, N.D., was celebrated Tuesday, February 24, 2004 at St. Henry’s Catholic Church, Alice, with Rev. John Fallon as celebrant. Mr. Wavra died Friday, February 20, 2004 at Maryhill Manor, Enderlin.
Edward Wavra was born December 30, 1907 near Alice, the son of Lois and Anna (Benish) Wavra. He grew up on the family farm and attended rural school in the Alice area. After receiving his education, he farmed for a time with his father.
On June 19, 1928 he married Sadie Wellentin in Fargo. The couple then moved to Alice where Edward worked with Sadie’s father on the family farm and later worked as a dray man for the railroad in Alice. He later became the janitor at the Alice School where he worked for over 40 years. Mrs. Wavra passed away on May 5, 1985, and Edward continued to live in Alice until October, 2000 when he became a resident of Maryhill Manor in Enderlin.
Edward is survived by four sons, Mahlon Wavra, Yuma, Ariz., Darrel “Tucker” (Leah) Wavra, Valley City, Maurice (Carole) Wavra, Yuma, Ariz., and Jerry (Betty) Wavra, Fargo; one brother-in-law, Vernon Wellentin, Anaheim, Calif.; two sisters-in-law, Gladys Wavra, Reno, Nev., and Margaret Wellentin, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two sisters and five brothers.
Interment will be at Alice Community Cemetery.

Peter Shipe
Funeral Mass for Peter Shipe, 68, Ogema, Minn., was celebrated Monday, February 23, 2004, at St. John’s Catholic Church, Wahpeton, with Rev. Dale Lagodinski as celebrant. Mr. Shipe died Thursday, February 19, 2004 at Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Fargo.
Peter Anthony Shipe was born May 5, 1935 in rural Wahpeton, the son of Raymond and Viola (Bates) Shipe. He grew up and attended rural school and graduated from Wahpeton High school. He attended NDSCS and received his training in auto-body.
He served in the US Marines from 1956 to 1959.
On September 17, 1960, he married Rosaline Schmieg at Rosen, Minn. The couple lived in Wahpeton, Norcross, Minn., and Wheaton, Minn., before moving to Gwinner. He worked for 25 years for Melroe Manufacturing and for Raymac. They moved to Rothsay, Minn. in 1990 and to Strawberry Lake, near Ogema, Minn. in 1998.
Pete is survived by his wife Rosaline, Ogema, Minn.; two sons, Jan (Delaina) Shipe, Osceola, Wis., Elliott Shipe, Phoenix, Ariz.; a daughter, Theresia (Jonathan) Rieger, Grand Forks; two brothers, Raymond (Joan) Shipe, Brandon, S.D., and George (Linda) Shipe, Pocatello, Ida.; two sisters, Margie Kaldor, Missoula, Mont., and Lila (Ron) Schaffer, Green Valley, Ariz.; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Viola, and a brother-in-law, Howard Kaldor.
Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Wahpeton.
