Kenneth J. Ensz
Funeral services for Kenneth J. Ensz, 56, Enderlin, formerly Valley City, were held on Saturday, February 28, 2004 at the Church of the Nazarene, Valley City. Reverend Ron Keysor and Reverend Duane Ferrie officiated. Mr. Ensz died Tuesday, February 24, 2004 in Enderlin.
Kenneth James Ensz, son of Peter and Isabelle (Jaton) Ensz was born on November 28, 1947 in Bismarck. He attended school in Bismarck. After his schooling, Ken enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam where he earned four bronze stars. Upon his discharge he returned to Bismarck where he did various construction jobs as a member of the local Laborers Union.
On September 29, 1979, he married Carol Ann Otto in Wilton, N.D. They made their home in Bismarck and he continued working in construction. They were members of the Nazarene Church in Mandan, N.D. and Ken was on the board there. In 1991 they moved to Valley City, N.D., where Ken attended Valley City State University and graduated in 1995 with a degree in Human Services. Shortly after attaining his degree Ken became disabled with ALS and was unable to work. He did however served as a consultant for the Abused Persons Outreach Center in Valley City. In 2000 they moved to Enderlin, N.D. and Ken entered Maryhill Manor. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Valley City where he was head usher for many years. He was a member of the Enderlin VFW and served on the Coffee House Board in Valley City.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Ensz, Enderlin; son Joshua Ensz, Valley City City University, Valley City; and one brother, Eugene (Shelley) Ensz, Minneapolis, Minn. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, and infant son, Christopher, and an infant child.
Interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck in the spring.
Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City, was in charge of arrangements.

Burnell Trangsrud
Funeral services for Burnell Trangsrud, 74, Enderlin, were held on Thursday, April 8, 2004 at First Lutheran Church, Enderlin. Reverend Leon Zavadil officiated. Mr. Trangsrud died Sunday, April 4, 2004 at his home near Enderlin.
Burnell Trangsrud, son of Bernhard and Clara (Gunderson) Trangsrud was born on April 20, 1929 in rural Enderlin. He attended school in rural Enderlin.
On November 19, 1950, he married Lila Pribbenow in Enderlin. Burnell started farming in 1944 on his grandfather’s homestead. In addition to the dairy farm he drove school bus for 17 years. He served on the First Lutheran Church Council, Ransom County and Liberty Local Farmers Union Board, Farmers Union Oil Co. Board and Parkside Lutheran Home Board. He was treasurer of Liberty Township for 35 years. He sang in the church choir, a quartet and men’s groups. In 1991 Burnell received the Seim-Forred Soil Stewardship Award signifying the relationship of God, Soil and Man.
He is survived by three sons, Lowell (Meg) Trangsrud, San Jose, Calif., Owen (Michelle) Trangsrud, Enderlin, Collin (Lori) Enderlin, seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Myron (Lois) Trangsrud, Valley City; two sisters, Marlys (Wayne) Muilenburg, Enderlin, and Gladys (Wallace) Hamre, West Fargo. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Myrtle Iverson, Cora Vee, Edna Markel, and Evelyn Svedjan.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Curt Hamre, Harris Iverson, Keith Pribbenow, Warren Pribbenow, Ron Svedjan, and Ken Svedjan.
Honorary pallbearers were the Sheldon Horseshoe Pitchers.
Music was provided by organists Shirley Hanson and Gretchen Joy and special music by the Enderlin Men’s Chorus.
Interment at West St. Olaf Cemetery, rural Enderlin.

Inez I. Schmidt
Funeral services for Inez I. Schmidt, 85, Enderlin, were held on Saturday, April 3, 2004 at Anselm Lutheran Church, rural Enderlin. Reverend Mike Tomey officiated. Mrs. Schmidt died Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at Maryhill Manor, Enderlin.
Inez Irene Buss, daughter of Gerald and Mathilda (Ihme) Buss was born on February 28, 1919 at rural Anselm, N.D. She attended rural Sheldon school.
On February 28, 1940, she married Merl Edgar Schmidt, in rural Sheldon. They farmed near Enderlin. They moved to Enderlin in 1968. Inez played the organ and piano at church for many years. She also taught Sunday School and was active in WELCA. She was a member of a community Birthday Club and Enderlin Senior Citizens. He died May 21, 1979.
She is survived by two sons, Larry (Carol) Schmidt, Minot, David Schmidt, Fargo; one daughter, Norma (Gary) Anderson, Sheldon; ten grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, and a brother, Clifford.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Steve Laber, Mark Lee, Duane Altman, Roland Wall, Dwight Krueger, and Mark Bartle.
Music was provided by organist Janet Froemke and vocalists Burnell and Owen Trangsrud.
Interment at Enderlin Cemetery.

Raymond G. Salzwedel
Funeral services for Raymond G. Salzwedel, 87, West Fargo, were held on Tuesday, April 6, 2004 in St. Henry’s Catholic Church, Alice, N.D. Father John Fallon officiated. Mr. Salzwedel died Saturday, April 3, 2004 in the Villa Maria Nursing Home, Fargo.
Raymond G. Salzwedel, son of Gust and Marie (Puhr) Salzwedel was born on July 21, 1916 in rural Enderlin. He attended school in Alice. They lived on the family farm near Enderlin.
On January 7, 1943, he married Josephine Wellentin, while he served in the U.S. Army. They farmed near Alice for many years and continued to live there until July of 1998. They moved to West Fargo that same year.
He is survived by his wife, Josephine, West Fargo; son, Monte (Betty) Salzwedel, Fargo; two daughters, Cherrie (Dennis) Lum, Durango, Colo., Deborah Reilly, Edinburg, N.D.; son-in-law, Wayne Harder, Edinburg, and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Raelyn Harder, son-in-law, Bruce Reilly, and a brother, Vernon.
Honorary pallbearers for the funeral were all his friends, neighbors and family.
Music was provided by organist Marie Fallon.
Interment at St. Henry’s Community Cemetery, Alice.
West Funeral Home, West Fargo, was in charge of arrangements.

Mayme F. Schnell
Funeral services for Mayme F. Schnell, 80, Fargo, were held on Monday, April 5, 2004, at St. Maurice's Catholic Church, Kindred. Mrs. Schnell died Wednesday, March 31, 2004 surrounded by her family at the MeritCare Palliative Care Center, Fargo.
Mayme F. Kuemper, daughter of Leo and Nellie (Groen) Kuemper was born on January 15, 1924 in Ivanhoe, Minn. She grew up in Hankinson, N.D. and graduated from St. Francis Academy.
On January 10, 1944, she married Arnold Schnell.
She is survived by her husband Arnold Schnell, Fargo; two sons, Arnie (Sharon) Schnell, Enderlin, Roger Schnell, Waubon, Minn.; eight daughters, Kathy (Gerald) MacAllister, Seattle, Wash., Gloria Jean (Tom) Robey, Lidgerwood, Bonnie (Allen) Prochnow, Wahpeton, Barbara (Dale) Hartleben, Fargo, Reyne Houck, Del City, Okla., Sandy (Don) Hejtmanek, Kindred, Gail (Mearl) Nelson, Glenfield, N.D., Sherry (Marlin) Helmer, Lidgerwood, 23 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren; a brother, Vernon (Donna) Kuemper, Fargo, a sister, Lucille Thurman, Benton City, Wash., and a sister-in-law, Delores Kuemper, Anoka, Minn. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Garrit Kuemper, Bernard Kuemper and Elmer Kuemper.
Private interment at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Hankinson.
Fredrickson Funeral Chapel, was in charge of arrangements.

Betty J. Pfaff
Funeral services for Betty J. Pfaff, 70, Fargo, were held on Friday, April 9, 2004, at Olivet Lutheran Church, Fargo. Rev. Kris Gorden officiated. Betty J. Pfaff died Tuesday, April 6, 2004, at Elim Care Center, Fargo.
Betty J. Andersen, daughter of George Martin and Dora (Walks) Andersen was born on May 23, 1933, in Chaseley, ND. She attended school in Hurdsfield and Chaseley.
On November 1, 1950, she married Floyd Pfaff, in Goodrich, ND. After marriage, the couple made their home in Kellogg, Idaho. In 1957 the couple moved to Fargo where Betty was a homemaker and they also owned and operated the Pfaff’s Clark Service Station in South Fargo from 1957 until 1978. The couple moved to Enderlin in 1978 where they owned and operated Pfaff’s Road Side Bar for ten years until moving to Christine in 1987. Betty worked in Aber grocery, Abercrombie from 1987 until retiring in 1992.
She is survived by three sons, Ken (Sue), Don, and Randy all of Fargo; one brother, Gene (Bea) Andersen, Jamestown; six sisters, Eunice (Duane) Johnson, Fargo; Dorothy Nordick, West Fargo; Dian Nicklay, Fargo; Joyce (Gordon) Arntson, Hitterdal, MN; Sharon (Tom) Navarro, Fargo; and Sheila (Fred) Christensen, Choteau, Mont.; also surviving are seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Floyd Pfaff.
Music was provided by soloist Alison Overby and organist Marlys Herring.
Pallbears were Jim Maus, Steve Maus, Dave Olson, Gary Thilmony, Dean Scheab and Craig Allen. Interment in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Fargo.

Delmore E. Nelson
Funeral services for Delmore E. Nelson, 74, Lisbon, were held on Tuesday, April 20, 2004 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lisbon. Reverend David Killeen and Reverend Norman Anderson officiated. Mr. Nelson died Friday, April 16, 2004 at Parkside Home, Lisbon.
Delmore E. Nelson, son of Hjalmer and Agnes (Johnson) Nelson was born on August 8, 1929 in Wendell, Minn. He attended school in Kensington, Minn. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
On June 9, 1957, he married Naomi Holmstrom, in Gwinner. Del worked for Vogue Cleaners, Hansen’s Super Valu, and Warehouse Grocery, all of Lisbon, for several years.
He is survived by his wife, Naomi Nelson; two sons, Tim Nelson, San Jose, Calif., Dan Nelson, Pensacola, Fla.; two daughters, Teresa (Steve) Aljets, Harvey, N.D., Amy Nelson, Moorhead; eight grandchildren; and one sister, Deloris (Donald) Elmquist, Hibbing, Minn.
Music was provided by organist Jan Hansen and soloist Charlene Rondestvedt.
Interment at Gwinner Cemetery, Gwinner.

Madison E. McLean
Madison Eileen McLean, the daughter of Cody McLean and Erica Osborne, Fargo was born and died on Monday, April 12, 2004 at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo. Private services will be held at a later date.
She is survived by her parents, Cody McLean and Erica Osborne, Fargo; grandparents, Bill and Eileen Osborne, Pelican Rapids, Minn., Randall McLean, Enderlin, Jana McLean, Belle Fourche, S.D.; great-grandparents, Milford Strandlien, Pelican Rapids, Ray and Lorraine Jensen, Pelican Rapids, Beverly and Jim Jacobson, Fargo, Eddy and LaVonna Ferguson, Fargo, Burnette and Ramona Bomstad, Jamestown, and Gene McLean, Lakota, N.D.; great-great-grandparents, Gladys Johnson, Breckenridge, Minn., Josephine Elgin, Lakota, N.D. and Grace McLean, Lakota; two aunts; three uncles; and one cousin. She was preceded in death by her great-grandfathers Alvin Elgin, Don McLean, Olaf Carlson and Henry Osborne; and great-grandmother, Edna Strandlien.
Interment at West North Immanuel Cemetery, rural Pelican Rapids, Minn.
Larson Funeral Home, Pelican Rapids, Minn. was in charge of arrangements.
