Victor A. Krivarchka
Funeral services for Victor A. Krivarchka, 76, Fargo, were held on Tuesday, April 20, 2004 at Church of the Nativity, Fargo. Mr. Krivarchka died Friday, April 16, 2004 in his home after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Victor A. Krivarchka, son of William and Ann (Evoniuk) Krivarchka was born on August 11, 1927 on the family farm north of Belfield, N.D. He grew up and attended school, graduating from Dickinson Model High School in 1945. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1949.
On June 14, 1951, he married
Olga Palaniuk, in New England, N.D. The couple lived in many North Dakota and South Dakota communities due to their association with Red Owl foods. Together they operated Vic’s Red Owl in Bowman from 1966 until 1978. After their retirement, they made their home at Ottertail Lake, Minn. and have lived in Fargo since 1991. Victor work in the hardware department at Walmart in Fargo for ten years. He was active in Rotary Club (Bowman) and Lion's Club (Ottertail). He was a member of the Church of the Nativity in Fargo.
He is survived by three daughters, Diane (Tim) Rath, Apple Valley, Minn., Jean (Mike) Giese, Savage, Minn., Susan (Mike) Malloy, Engan, Minn.; two sons, Bill (Heidi) Krivarchka, Mayville, and Duane (Cheryl) Krivarchka, Lisbon; 12 grandchildren; one brother, Ted (Bernice) Krivarchka, Alexandria, Va; four sisters, Gertrude (Gene) Kennedy, Littleton, Colo., Rose (Jim) Paul, Dickinson, Yvonne (Arlys) Hanson, Sterling, Colo. and Mary Ann Hanson, Belfield. He was preceded in death by his wife, Olga, his parents, and two sisters, Margaret and Francis.
Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Fargo.

Darrell L. Olson
Mass of Christian Burial for Darrell L. Olson, 59, Lake City, S.D. was held on Thursday, April 22, 2004 at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Veblen, S.D. Reverend Father Norm Volk officiated. Mr. Olson died Monday, April 19, 2004 at the Marshall County Healthcare Center, Britton, S.D.
Darrell Lee Olson, son of Mary I. (Halverson) Olson was born on March 22, 1945 at Veblen, S.D. He grew up there and attended Veblen High School.
On June 30, 1962, he married
Judy Kulzer, in Cayuga, N.D. They lived in Fargo for a short time. Darrell attained his certificate of surveying in Devils Lake after which he worked for the North Dakota State Highway Department in the Dickinson area. He was later employed by the U-Haul division of Kargo Parts in Minneapolis and served as company president for ten years. In 1975, he moved back to Veblen, where he owned and operated Darrell’s Bar and Lounge for 22 years. Failing health made it necessary for him to retire in 1996, and he and Judy moved to the Lake City area. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Moose Lodge and the Veblen Jaycees.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Olson, Lake City, S.D.; one son, Jeff (Renee) Olson, Veblen; one daughter, Cindy (Chuck) Baus, Veblen; ten grandchildren; one sister, Bonnie (Dale) Mumm, Wahpeton; and two brothers, Robert (Shirley) Olson, Lake City, and Kermit (Mary Jane) Olson, Canby, Minn. He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Arlan Hanson, Michael Johnson, Justin Johnson, Chris Johnson, Dustin Mumm, Joe Johnson, Steve Hoffman and Duane Johnson. Honorary Honorary pallbearers were all of Darrell’s many friends.
Music was provided by organist Pat Cimburek and soloist Terry Price.

Gerald O. Gilbertson
Funeral services for Gerald O. Gilbertson, 90, Valley City, were held on Thursday, April 22, 2004, at Waldheim Lutheran Church, Kathryn. Rev. Bradley Edin officiated. Mr. Gilbertson died Sunday, April 18, 2004, at Valley City Care Center.
Gerald O. Gilbertson, son of Selmer and Betsy (Baarstad) Gilbertson was born on July 29, 1913, in Eastedge, ND. He was reared and educated in the Nome/Kathryn area. During the mid-1930s Gerald served with the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) stationed at Brainerd, Minnesota.
On October 29, 1946, he married
Mable Huseby.
He is survived by his daughters, Rachel (Erv) Monson, Bismarck and Nancy (Tom) Prall, Prairie City, Iowa; a sister, Verna Hilda, Mandan; and a granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret; brother, James; wife, Mable and parents.

Erma P. Bergman
Funeral services for Erma Pauline Bergman, 92, Pelican Rapids, were held on Saturday, April 17, 2004, at Faith Lutheran Church, Fergus Falls. Rev. Craig Palach officiated. Mrs. Bergman died Tuesday, April 13, 2004, at the Pelican Valley Nursing Home in Pelican Rapids.
Erma P. Bergman, daughter of Jakob and Emma (Peterson) Isakson was born on June 25, 1911, in LaMoure. She attended rural school near LaMoure. After her schooling, she worked various jobs.
In the early 1930s, she married
William Strander and they farmed in rural Fort Ransom. In the mid 1940s, she moved to Fargo and began working at St. John’s Hospital.On November 15, 1948, she married
Wilmer Bergman in Reno, Nevada. The couple resided in Fergus Falls and she worked as a domestic for various families. After retirement, she resided at the RiverBend Apartments for over 20 years. In September of 2000 she moved to the Pelican Valley Nursing Home in Pelican Rapids and has resided there since. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls and was active in many church activities.
She is survived by four children, Eileen Marwitz of Breckenridge, Virlyn (Delores) Strander of Pelican Rapids, Harold Bergman of Oakdale, Marilyn Bergman of Federal Way, Wash.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great granddaughters; one sister, Marie Cohn of San Francisco and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Wilmer who died in 1980; two brothers Edwin and Arnold Isakson and one sister, Eleanor Wilson.
Interment at Trinity-Faith Cemetery, Fergus Falls, Minn.

John A. Sandgren
Memorial services for John A. Sandgren, 74, Fargo, were held on Saturday, May 22, 2004 at Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo. Mr. Sandgren died Wednesday, May 12, 2004 in his home.
John A. Sandgren was born on January 6, 1931 in Bathgate, N.D. He graduated from Walsh County Ag School in Park River, N.D. in 1949.
In 1954, he married
Donna Louise Surerus. They lived on the Sandgren farm near Bathgate, then in Gwinner, where John worked for Melroe Co., and in Fargo, where he was the industrial equipment sales representative for the F-M Forklift until retiring in 1996. He married
Patricia Anne McGowan in 1985.
He is survived by his wife, Patty Sandgren, Fargo; one son, Thomas (Pat) Sandgren, Woodbury, Minn.; two daughters, Patti (Bill) Bergeth, Des Moines, Iowa, Susan Nyberg, Fargo; step-daughters, Lammel (Tony) Szeitz-Sager, Las Vegas, Nev., and Magda (Mike) Szeitz-Kearns, Brainerd, Minn.; six grandchildren; two sisters, Alice (Alfred Byron) Olson, Cavalier, N.D. and Ruth (Marvin) Mandery, Minneapolis.

Josephine M. Haakenson
Funeral services for Josephine M. Hakkenson, 91, Dickey, N.D., were held on Wednesday, May 19, 2004 at the Dickey United Methodist Church. Reverend Rodney Ulmer officiated. Mrs. Haakenson died Monday, May 17, 2004 at the St. Rose Care Center, LaMoure, N.D.
Josephine M. Peterson, daughter of John and Maggie (Eggie) Peterson was born on April 23, 1913 in Adrian, N.D. She grew up and attended school in the Adrian area, and was a member of the first graduating class from Dickey High School, Dickey, N.D.
On October 16, 1937, she married
Merrel Haakenson. They farmed in the Dickey area. In 1960 the couple moved into Dickey where Josephine worked as a cook at the Dickey Public School and later worked for the local grocery store. Josephine entered the St. Rose Care Center in Lamoure in July of 1998. Merrill died on May 8, 2004.
She is survived by two sons, Harvey (Vonadean) Haakenson, Bismarck, James (Ramona) Haakenson, Dickey; one daughter, Herchel (Nicholas) O’Connor, Plevna, Mont.; ten grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; three sisters, Olive Buss, Lisbon, Mae Altman, Lisbon, and Louette (Eugene) Coffel, Gilby, N.D. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, her sister, Jane, and three brothers, Earl, Ted and Calvin.
Pallbearers for the funeral were all her grandchildren.
Music was provided by organist Marilynne Stemen.
Interment at Dickey City Cemetery, near Dickey.

Lyle C. Slattum
Military services for Lyle C. Slattum, 84, Seattle, Wash., were held on Thursday, May 13, 2004 at the Tahoma National Cemetery. Mr. Slattum died January 17, 2004 at the Washington Center, Seattle, Wash., where he had been living for several years.
Lyle Claudius Slattum, son of Ole and Anne (Lowe) Slattum was born on November 10, 1919 in Preston Township, near Fort Ransom. He attended grade school at the Birklid School. He joined the Army on June 27, 1941 as part of the Battery C, 148th Field Artillery Battalion, and served in the New Guinea, East Indies and the Southern Philippines Campaigns. He received many decorations and citations, such as “Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, American Defense Service ribbon with Bronze Star, Six Overseas Service Bars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, and three battle Stars. He was honorably discharged on May 24, 1945. His mother passed away in 1920.
He is survived by three sisters, Ila Northrup, Glasgow, Mont., Olive Slattum, Fargo and Janice Stewart, Burien, Wash.; five brothers, Odin Slattum, Salem, Ore., Carroll Slattum, Fort Ransom, Telvin Slattum, Edmonds, Wash., Percy Slattum, Snohomish, Wash., Stanley Slattum, Camano Island, Wash., and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, step-mother, sister, Helen, and brothers, Morris and Ardell.
Interment at Tahoma National Cemetery.
Gene L. Lee
Funeral services for Gene L. Lee, 74, Lisbon, were held on Monday, April 19, 2004, at Hoff Lutheran Church, rural Heimdal, ND. Pastor Julie Tweit and Pastoral Assistant Fred Schmidt officiated. Mr. Lee died Wednesday, April 14, 2004, at the North Dakota Veterans Home in Lisbon.
Gene Louie Lee, son of Lewis and Ruth (Larson) Lee was born on December 8, 1929, in rural Maddock. He attended grade school in Wellsburg and graduated from the Benson County Agricultural & Training School at Maddock in 1947. He worked as an auto mechanic at the Powell Motor Company in Devils Lake and Kunkel Motor Company in Carrington until he entered the US Air Force on April 10, 1952. He served as a radio operator during the Korean Conflict. Gene was awarded the Korean Service, the United Nation Service, and the National Defense Medals, along with the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation. He was honorably discharged on October 6, 1955. Gene then worked for a year as a mechanic during the construction of the Minot Air Force Base. From 1956 to 1957, he studied radio and television electronics at Wahpeton State School of Science. Gene was a member of Hoff Lutheran Church, Heimdal and a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers. Gene lived in Minnesota for many years, first at St. Cloud and then for over 20 years at Two Harbors. He later moved to Larimore and in June of 2003, became a resident of the North Veterans Home in Lisbon.
He is survived by two sisters, Erna (Lester) Ellingson, Sr., of Minnewaukan, ND; Edell (Gordon) Grant of Renton, WA; two brothers, Lloyd (Gloria) Lee of Maryville, WA; and Allen (LaVonne) Lee of Forest River, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Adeline McDonald and a brother, Ralph Lee.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Lester Ellingson, Jr., Terry Ellingson, Dennis Ellingson, Monty Stensland, Sandi Stensland and Russel Lee.
Music was provided by organist Paula Deckert and soloist Loretta Stensland.
Military Rites were accorded by Robert Tovsrud VFW Post #757 of Harlow, ND

Edna S. Strander
Edna S. Strander, 70, West Fargo, N.D., Saturday, March 27, 2004 at Elim Care Center in Fargo, N.D.
Edna (Erbele) Strander, was born August 24, 1933 in Wing, N.D. to Jacob and Pauline (Harter) Erbele. She attended school in LaMoure, N.D. Edna married
Arnold Q. Strander September 1, 1950 in Britton, S.D. For the past 20 years they resided in West Fargo.
Edna was an active member of the West Fargo VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She was employed at various positions over the years including the LaMoure, N.D. Post Office and American Specialty Foods in Fargo. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, sewing and dancing to her husband’s music. She was involved in helping to schedule “gigs” for her husband and record the musical events on video tape.
Edna was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who believed that the children always came first. She was looking forward to seeing her new great-grandson in Wyoming, along with visiting friends and family around the country.
She is survived by her husband, Arnold; three daughters, Debra (Timothy) Smith, St. Paul, Minn., Donna (Todd) Liebelt, Rock Springs, Wyo., Dorren (Jeffery) Johnson, Moorhead, Minn.; nine grandchildren, Jennifer Geving, Tony Geving, Jonathan Smith, Benjamin Smith, Elizabeth Liebelt, Nathaniel Liebelt, Courteney Liebelt, Jerimiah Johnson, Trevor Johnson, two great grandchildren, Aaliyah Geving and Quentin Liebelt; a brother, Roy (Vicky) Erbele, Fort Ripley, Minn., and a sister, Mary (Emery Strander, Fort Ransom, N.D.
Funeral was Thursday, April 1, 2004 at Peace Lutheran Church, Fargo.
Interment at Stiklestad Cemetery, Fort Ransom.
