Keith N. Nelson
Keith N. Nelson, 55, died of natural causes at his home in Engelwood, Colo., Tuesday, July 20, 2004. He was born August 16, 1948 in Lisbon, N.D. to Lois and Marvin Swanson, He came to live with Orvis and Norma Nelson in 1949.
Keith grew up in Moorhead and Fargo. He graduated from Moorhead High School in 1966, and attended NDSU and Wahpeton State School of Science.
In 1970 Keith entered the U.S. Army and served honorably in Vietnam. Upon discharge, he entered the oil business and operated his own mineral leasing company in western North Dakota during the late 1970s. He enjoyed piloting his own plane throughout the upper midwest. He later moved to Denver where he was employed for many years with US West as a computer specialist.
Keith is survived by his adopted mother, Norma Nelson Christianson; his biological mother, Lois Seelye; brothers, Marvin (Susan) Swanson, Lisbon, Marlow (Karen) Swanson, Mechanicsburg, Pa., David (Darcy) Swanson, Prineville, Ore., and Larry (Kay) Swanson, Gwinner; sisters, Cheryl (Wendell) Wolters, Lisbon and Marsha (John) Nefs, Grand Forks; also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends, Glen and Sandy Hyland family, Bismarck, Jim and Deb Christianson family, Bismarck and Mary and John Carman family, Newton, Kans.
He was preceeded in death by a sister, Karen Swanson, his fathers, Orvis Nelson and Marvin Swanson and his stepfather Marc Christianson.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lisbon, N.D. at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 27, 2004. Inurnment will be at Riverside Cemetery
in Fargo.
Keith was a loving son, brother and friend. He will be missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to the Bismarck Law Enforcement Chaplaincy, 700 S. 9th St., Bismarck, ND 580504 or a charity of donor’s choice.
Christine A. Jensen
Funeral services for Christine A. Jensen, 83, Lisbon, were held on Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Lisbon. Reverend Donald Polege officiated. Mrs. Jensen died Thursday, May 27, 2004 at Parkside Lutheran Home, Lisbon.
Christine A. Devitt, daughter of James and Minnie (Hock) Devitt was born on February 22, 1921 in rural Lisbon. She attended rural Lisbon school and graduated from Lisbon High School.
On February 1, 1945, she married
Harvey Jensen, in Webster, S.D. They lived in Seattle where Christine worked for Boeing. In 1946 they returned to Lisbon. Christine worked as a housekeeper for various families in Lisbon. He died November 16, 1986.
She is survived by two sons, Timothy (Debbie) Jensen, Lisbon, Douglas (Jeanne) Jensen, Fargo; one daughter, Vickie (Craig) Bailey, Bozeman, Mont.; four grandchildren; three brothers, James (Delores), Horace, Laurence, Lisbon, Raymond (Ann), Buffalo; and two sisters, Ethel (Edmund) Anderson, Lisbon, Elaine (Ervin) Anderson, Lisbon. She was preceded in death by her husband Harvey and brother Michael.
Pallbearers for the funeral were John Anderson, Ross Cole, Darwin Strander, Neal Bjugstad, Charlie Rotenberger and Joe Laudert.
Music was provided by organist Louise Kunze and soloist Joan Montgomery.
Interment at Oakwood Cemetery, Lisbon.

Perry W. Duncan
A service of remembrance for Perry W. Duncan, 75, Billings, Mont., were held on Thursday, May 27, 2004 at the Smith’s West Funeral Chapel. Mr. Duncan died Monday, May 24, 2004 at his home.
Perry William Duncan, son of William C. and Austa E. (Iverson) Duncan was born on May 7, 1929 in Sheldon. He attended schools in the Lisbon area. Perry was a member of the U.S. Air Force from 1948 to 1952.
On March 7, 1954, he married
Mary Jean Haas at Carrington. They owned and operated grocery stores in Carrington and Rugby, N.D. They moved to Montana in 1967 where Perry was a sales representative for Groves-Kelco, Ryans and SuperValu, servicing numerous stores in the Montana and Wyoming area.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Duncan, Billings, Mont.; three daughters, Karen (Todd) Benner, Billings, Mary Jane (Gary) Hogan, Billings, Nancy (Mike) Liskh, Bend, Ore.; and one son, Jerome, Vancouver, Wash.; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one brother, Lester Duncan, Missoula, Mont.
Interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Gjerdis A. Green
Funeral services for Gjerdis A. Green, 92, Enderlin, were held on Thursday, June 3, 2004 at Fillmore Lutheran Church, rural Enderlin. Reverend Leon Zavadil officiated. Mrs. Green died Sunday, May 30, 2004 in her home in Enderlin.
Gjerdis A. Svedjan, daughter of Anton and Jenny (Iverson) Svedjan was born on March 16, 1912 in Enderlin. She attended Enderlin school and graduated in 1930.
On March 18, 1931, she married
Ernest Green in Enderlin. They farmed near Enderlin until 1970 when they retired and moved into Enderlin. She was active in Fillmore Lutheran Church and Enderlin Senior Citizens. He died June 6, 1986.
She is survived by four daughters, Beverly Dyer, Hayward, Calif., Cheryl (Bill) Mason, Angel, Fire, N.W., Shirley (Lowell) Hanson, Helena, Mont., Kathy (Dave) MacIver, Mandan; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Arnold (Joyce Schmoker) Svedjan, LaMoure.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Barry Hanson, Craig Hanson, Jeff MacIver, Mike Dyer, John Billing and Paul Billing. Honorary pallbearers were Carmen Pickering, Valerie Ornellas, Andrea Gommeson, Kim MacIver, Doug Duran.
Music was provided by organist Verna Armstrong and special music by Paul Billing, John Billing, Jodi Bjornson and Farrah Anderson.
Interment at Fillmore Cemetery, rural Enderlin.

Ginny Kemmer
Funeral services for Ginny Kemmer, 66, Enderlin, were held on Thursday, June 3, 2004 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Enderlin. Reverend Mike Toomey officiated. Mrs. Kemmer died Saturday, May 29, 2004 at her home in Enderlin.
Ginny Kohr, daughter of Harry and Jeanette (Urick) Kohr was born on August 13, 1937 in Grace City, N.D. She attended school in Grace City and graduated from Enderlin High School.
On September 13, 1956, she married
Harold Kemmer, in rural Alice. They lived in Enderlin where Ginny worked at Bjerke-Nygaard Hardware for several years and at the Gable-Glo Drive-in for a few years. She co-owned and operated Hal’s Red Owl in Enderlin until they sold the grocery store. She then worked for Mitch’s Jack and Jill and Jay’s Food Pride.
She is survived by her husband Harold Kemmer, Enderlin; four sons, Keith Kemmer, Casselton, Kent (Shelly) Kemmer, Enderlin, Jeff (Teri) Kemmer, Kensington, Md., Bryan (Kristie) Kemmer, Enderlin, one daughter (Julie (Tim) Kent, Tyler, Minn.; 11 grandchildren; one sister, Marie Bot, Fargo; four brothers, Tommy (Jan) Kohr, LeGrande, Ore. and three older brothers.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Joe Schmitz, Dennis Kemmer, Barry Grindahl, Vance Kemmer, Duane Schlicht, and Mike Utke. Honorary pallbearers were David Bot, Kevin Kohr and Ginny’s grandchildren.
Music was provided by organist Gretchen Hoy and special music by James and Ethel Cramer’s daughters and granddaughters.
Interment at Salem, rural Enderlin.

Leona M. Mertes
Funeral services for Leona M. Mertes, 92, Moorhead, were held on Saturday, May 29, 2004 in St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Moorhead. Mrs. Mertes died Wednesday, May 26, 2004 in Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead.
Leona Marie Homan, daughter of Charles and Cecilia (Schmitt) Homan was born on August 21, 1911, near St. Leo, Minn. She was raised in St. Leo where she received her education.
On May 24, 1934, she married
Jacob N. Mertes, in St. Leo. They made their home in Mantador, N.D. They moved to Baker, Minn., in 1959 where they owned and operated Jake’s Grocery. He died February 10, 1978. She then lived in Florida for twelve years with her son. She moved to Moorhead, Minn. in 1990. Mrs. Mertes entered Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead in May of 2002. She is survived by three sons, James (Betty), Hudson, Fla., Ronald (Sandy), Barnesville, Minn., Donald (Ann), Moorhead, Minn.; four daughters, Donna (Donald) Fugere, San Diego, Calif., Patricia (Charles) Orn, Lisbon, Rita (LeRoy Stolberg) Mertes, Egan, Minn., Geraldine Bean, Apple Valley, Minn.; 20 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three great-stepgrandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; four brothers and four sisters. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob Mertes, her parents and a daughter, Rosemary.
Interment at Calvary Cemetery, Mantador.

George W. Morgan
Funeral services for George W. Morgan, 68, Ottertail, Minn., were held on Wednesday, June 2, 2004 at Calvary Lutheran Church, Perham, Minn. Mr. Morgan died Sunday, May 30, 2004 in Palliative Care Center of MeritCare South University, Fargo surrounded by family and friends.
George W. Morgan, son of John and Anna (Schiffner) Morgan was born on July 31, 1935 in Englevale. He attended schools in the Englevale area, graduating from high school in 1953 from Lisbon High School. George received degrees from North Dakota School of Science, Wahpeton, Valley City State College and the University of South Dakota-Vermillion.
In 1960, he married
Mavis Nelson of Forman. George taught Physics and Math in LaMoure, Minot State College and for twenty-four years at Fairmont, Minn. High School. In 1991 he retired to Ottertail, Minn., where he built a home for his family on Buchanan Lake. During the next thirteen years, he continued building houses in the area, traveling and volunteering with Habitat for Humanity.
He is survived by his wife, Mavis Morgan, Ottertail; one daughter, Susan, Louisville, Ky., one son, Robert Morgan, Eagan, Minn., Sisters, Eva Buckmiller, Bothell, Wash. and Mary Jane Gullingsrud, Minot; one brother, Dan Morgan, Wishek, N.D., and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant son, David, his parents, and step-father, Herman Jensen.
Interment at South Trinity Cemetery, Forman.

Pearl B. Ulland
The funeral for Pearl B. Ulland, 74, Lidgerwood, was held on Wednesday morning, June 2, 2004 in Bergen Lutheran Church, Lidgerwood.
Miss Ulland died Sunday, May 16, 2004, from injuries sustained in a car accident south of Gillette, Wyo. Interment
was at Bergen Lutheran Church Cemetery, Lidgerwood. Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home, Gillette, Wyoming and Frank Funeral Home, Lidgerwood were in charge of arrangements.
