Lois L. Wahl
Funeral services for Lois L. Wahl, 77, Fargo, were held on Thursday, June 3, 2004 at Shepherd of the Prairie Church, Fargo. Mrs. Wahl died Sunday, May 30, 2004 in Innovis Hospital, Fargo.
Lois Lucille Kurtz, daughter of Herman and Flora Appel was born on January 26, 1927 in Davenport, N.D. She grew up in Davenport and graduated from Davenport High School.
On October 6, 1945, she married
Alfred Kurtz in Davenport. They farmed near Enderlin then later moved to Fargo and back to Davenport in 1967. She married
Collin Wahl on June 27, 1998 in Davenport and they made their home in Fargo.
She is survived by her husband, Collin, Fargo; two sons, Ronald (Belinda) Kurtz, Sabin, Minn. and Roger Kurtz, Davenport; and daughter, Carol (Donald) Olgeirson, West Fargo. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Alfred, infant son and her brother, Alvin Appel.
Interment at Canaan Moravian Cemetery, Davenport, N.D.

Pearl A. Schroeder
Funeral services for Pearl A. Schroeder, 90, Enderlin, were held on Saturday, June 5, 2004 at Immanual United Methodist Church, Sheldon. Reverend Duane Ferrie officiated. Mrs. Schroeder died Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at Maryhill Manor, Enderlin.
Pearl A. Krueger, daughter of Herman and Matilda (Froemke) Krueger was born on December 25, 1913 in rural Sheldon. She graduated from Sheldon High School. Pearl worked at the Sheldon Post Office and as a cook for the Wiper family in Sheldon.
On March 21, 1934, she married
Herman Schroeder, in rural Sheldon. They farmed near Sheldon. Pearl was a member of Sheldon Women’s Study Club, Sheldon Senior Citizens, Methodist Women and served as church organist for many years.
She is survived by her husband, Herman Schroeder, Sheldon; three sons, Leslie (Billie Jo) Schroeder, Sheldon, Donald (Arlette) Schroeder, Fergus Falls, Minn., Richard (Karen) Schroeder, Kent, Wash.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Herma Henricks, Chicago, Ill. She was preceded in death by four sisters.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Roland Schroeder, Jeff Wolf, David Schroeder, Dan Schroeder, Mark Schroeder and Marvin Krueger.
Music was provided by organist Verna Armstrong and vocalists Darell and Dianne Evanson.
Interment at Sheldon Cemetery, Sheldon.

Roy W. Daub
Funeral services for Roy W. Daub, 98, Devils Lake, formerly of Valley City and Dazey, N.D., were held on Monday, July 12, 2004 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Dazey. Reverend Dan Faust officiated. Mr. Daub died Thursday, July 8, 2004 at the Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake.
Roy Winiford Daub was born on April 16, 1906 in Moore Township, Ransom County, N.D. He attended Moore School and later North Dakota State University, Fargo.
On December 26, 1928, he married
Esther Helena Robertson in Osage, Iowa. They made their home near Enderlin. In 1939 they moved to Nome, N.D. and in 1963 to Dazey. All the while, Roy drove a gravel truck for Glen Daub Gravel Company and for Barnes County. They wintered in the western United States including Colorado and Utah for 30 winters. Esther died in December of 1999. Roy was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his son, Allan (Jo) Daub, Gothenburg, Neb.; two daughters, Florene Rogne, Devils Lake, Pauline (Vaughn) Hesse, Grand Forks; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a sister Madeline Fraedrich, Carlton, Minn.; sisters-in-law, Erma Daub and Margaret Daub, both Enderlin and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, five brothers and a son-in-law Carl Rogne.
Interment at Dazey Cemetery, Dazey.

Delbert B. Howey
Funeral services for Delbert B. Howey, 93, Lisbon, were held on Wednesday, July 14, 2004 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Lisbon. Father Andrew Dudzinski officiated. Mr. Howey died Saturday, July 10, 2004 at Lisbon Area Health Services.
Delbert B. Howey, son of Abram and Edith (Hanna) Howey was born on December 31, 1910 in rural Lisbon. He attended school in rural Lisbon and Lisbon High School.
On July 3, 1939, he married
Rosalia Schmidt in Lisbon. They farmed in Big Bend and Tuller Townships near Lisbon. They retired in 1975. They moved into Lisbon in 1992.
He is survived by his wife Rosalia Howey, Lisbon; two sons, Dennis (Sue), Gwinner, Donovan, Lisbon; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Ray (Sue), Quinlan, Texas; seven sisters, Ruth (Hubert) Inderlie, Albert Lea, Minn., Lois Perkins, Vancouver, Wash., Helen Haecherl, Vancouver, Wash., Florence Ryder, Vancouver, Wash., Grace Kinney, Lisbon, Isabel Jensen, Lisbon, and Gertrude McDaniel, Forman.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Tanya Howey, Teri Howey, James Howey, Cliff Howey, Tammy Coblentz, and Nathan Coblentz. Honory pallbearers were his great-grandchildren.
Music was provided by organist Carol McCann and soloist Sylvia Holmstrom.
Interment at St. Aloysius Catholic Cemetery, Lisbon.

Carl D. Johnson
Funeral services for Carl D. Johnson, 65, Milnor, were held on Wednesday, July 14, 2004 at the Milnor Lutheran Church. Reverend Julie Johnson officiated. Mr. Johnson died Saturday, July 10, 2004 at the Fort Ransom State Park, Fort Ransom.
Carl Duane Johnson, son of Eugene and Hilda (Thompson) Johnson was born on October 7, 1938 in Lisbon. He grew up and attended Scoville Country School near Lisbon. After his schooling, he worked at the Lisbon Creamery and for area farmers.
On August 20, 1961, he married
Marlys Sweet in Lisbon. The couple lived near Milnor and Carl worked at the Farmers Union and Land O’Lakes in Milnor. Carl was presently employed by Saxerud Inc. in Lisbon. He was a member of the Milnor Lutheran Church, Fort Ransom Arena Association and the Fort Ransom Sodbusters Association.
He is survived by his wife, Marlys, Milnor; three sons, Danny (Dianna), Cogswell, Randy (Tina), Milnor, and Rick (Sandy) Lisbon; two daughters, Kathy (Steve) Schultz, Lisbon, Vicki (Ron Schenck) Krueger, West Fargo; fourteen grandchildren; two sisters, Carol (Dale) Odegard, Milnor, Bette (Ed) Puchalski, Marion, Mont.; and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Rodney Anderson, Paul Nelson, Dennis Wheeler, Harlan Wilke, Clint Devitt and Lee Tiede.
Special music was provided by Carol and Jonathan Ydstie.
Interment at Oakwood Cemetery, Lisbon.

Walter H. Schiffner
Memorial services for Walter H. Schiffner, 80, Hermiston, Ore., were held on Wednesday, July 7, 2004 in the chapel at Burns Mortuary, Hermiston, Ore. Mr. Schiffner died Saturday, July 3, 2004 at his daughter’s home in Hermiston.
Walter Henry Schiffner, son of Jacob and Amelia Arndt Schiffner was born on January 27, 1924 at Englevale, N.D.. He graduated from Cleveland High School in 1942. He served four years in the Navy during WWII.
On July 3, 1950, he married
Florence Margaret King at Angola, Ind. Mr. Schiffner was the fire chief at Umatilla Army Depot for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Florence Schiffner, Hermiston; one son, Darrell Schiffner; two daughters, Deborah Myers and Cheryl Rhea, all of Hermiston; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; five brothers, Bill Schiffner and Robert Schiffner, both of Hermiston, Lester Schiffner and Theodore (Bud) Schiffner, both of Lisbon, and Albert Schiffner, Pontiac, Mich.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters.
Disposition was by cremation.

Donald P. Sherman
Funeral services for Donald P. Sherman, 63, Valley City, were held on Tuesday, July 13, 2004 in St. Catherine Catholic Church, Valley City. Reverend Gerard Braun celebrant. Mr. Sherman died Thursday, July 8, 2004 at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.
Donald Paul Sherman, son of Leonard and Evelyn (Ayers) Sherman. Don grew up in Valley City and attended school there. Don graduated from St. Catherine’s High School in Valley City in 1958. Don attended Valley City State University and graduated from there in 1964.
On Februray 10, 1964, he married
Glenda Lea Harrison in Valley City. The couple lived in Carson, N.D. for two years and later moved back to Valley City where Don went into business with his family in Sherman Clothiers in Valley City. In 1986 Don went to work in the insurance industry working for different insurance companies throughout the area. Due to his failing health Don retired in 2000. Don was a member of the Valley City Elks, Eagles and KP’s.
He is survived by his wife, Glenda Lea Sherman, Valley City; one son, Paul (Lynette) Sherman, LaMoure; two daughters, Susan (John) Saul, New Rockford, N.D. and Cindy (Paul) Ripplinger, Lisbon; nine grandchildren; two brothers, Dr. John (Jean) Sherman, Colorado Springs, Colo. and Pete (Diane) Sherman, Valley City; two sisters, Ann Albright, Dundee, Michigan and Beth (Dennis) Polito, Merced, Calif.; one sister-in-law, Debbie (Jim) Lochow, Valley City; two brother-in-laws Victor (Caroline) Harrison, Orlando, Fla., James (Marilyn) Harrison, Orlando, Fla.; his mother and father-in-law, Lou and Doug Olgesby, Enderlin, numberous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Evelyn and Leonard Sherman, father-in-law Victor Harrison and two grandsons.
Interment at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Valley City.

Ruth I. Smith
A memorial service for Ruth I. Smith, 98, Moorhead, Minn., were held on Friday, July 2, 2004 at the Fairmont, Eventide Retirement Center in Moorhead. Mrs. Smith died Tuesday, June 29, 2004 at the MeritCare Palliative Care Center in Fargo.
Ruth Inona Cox, daughter of William and Nancy Cox was born on September 7, 1905 in Nolanville, Texas. She attended schools in Nolanville and Belton, Texas. As a young adult Ruth lived and worked in Houston until moving to Temple, Texas.
On October 25, 1941, she married
Alfred E. “Hy” Smith. She worked as a nurse’s aid. Ruth was actively involved in the First Baptist Church and volunteer organizations in Temple. In June of 2000, Ruth moved to Moorhead, Minn. She resided at the Fairmont Assisted Living Center, Moorhead.
She is survived by her daughter, Portia (Jim) Danielson, Moorhead, Minn.; two grandchildren, one of which is Jana (Troy) Solhjem, McLeod, N.D.; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband.
Interment at Bellwood Memorial Cemetery, Temple, Texas.
