Deante Blake Xavier Nicholarsen, 3-month-old daughter of Jason Nicholarsen and Jennifer Hamik, both of Hastings, died Friday, Jan. 10, 1997, at her home.
Services are pending with Brand-Wilson Funeral Home.
Patricia A. Songster
Hastings resident Patricia A. (Nowak) Songster, 64, died Saturday, Jan. 11, 1997, at her home.
Rosary is 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, both at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church with Monsignor John J. McCabe officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery. Visitation is 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Brand-Wilson Funeral Home. Palmer's Funeral Home of Fullerton is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Songster was born Dec. 23, 1932, to Louis and Elizabeth (Malek) Nowak in Fullerton. She graduated from Fullerton High School in 1950. She taught rural school for three years. She was an X-ray and lab technician at Fullerton Hospital for many years. On July 4, 1976, she married Bob Songster in Hastings. They lived in Hastings. She worked at the Hastings Orthopedic Clinic until retiring in 1993.
She was a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church and the Eagles Auxiliary, of which she was president in Fullerton and Hastings.
Survivors are her husband; five sons, Robert Hill Jr. of North Platte, Robert Songster and Rick Songster, both of Lake Powell, Utah, Ron Songster of Mesa, Ariz., and Roger Songster of Valley; two daughters, Cathy Hill of Hastings and Ann Santin of Central City; four sisters, Rose Skocz of Omaha, Rita Shotkoski of Fullerton, Fran Laska of Norfolk and Janice Etheridge of Schaumburg, Ill; 19 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one grandchild.
Memorials may be given to Nebraska Boys Ranch.
Anna C. Dorn
Minden resident Anna Christine (Schnuerle) Dorn, 93, died Friday, Jan. 10, 1997, at Bethany Home in Minden.
Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hildreth with the Rev. Ronald Ebb officiating. Burial will be in Minden Cemetery. Visitation is 3-5 p.m. and 7-8 p.m. at Layton Funeral Home in Minden.
Mrs. Dorn was born June 5, 1903, to Adam and Regina (Lorcher) Schnuerle near Carleton. She moved to Naponee with her parents as a small child. On Feb. 14, 1926, she married Reinhard Dorn. They lived in the Macon area, later moving to a farm in Kimball County. In 1938 they moved to the Minden area where they farmed. Her husband died in 1969. She later moved into Minden.
She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Survivors are two daughters, Rose Ann Braden and Virginia Wiegand, both of Kearney; one sister, Lena Fritson of Franklin; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by one son, Delbert; three sisters and four brothers.
Neva Thornberry
Nelson resident Neva (Ross) Thornberry, 80, died Saturday, Jan. 11, 1997, in Superior.
Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Klawitter-Price Funeral Home chapel in Nelson with the Rev. Mike Osberg officiating. Burial will be in Nelson Cemetery. Visitation is until 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. until services Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Thornberry was born May 23, 1916, to Elbert and Alice (Dillon) Ross in Davenport. She married Willis Thornberry. He died Dec. 6, 1979.
Survivors are one son, Larry of Nelson; one daughter, Elaine Thayer of Nelson; one brother, Harry Ross of Ellenton, Fla.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by six brothers.
Memorials may be given to the family's choice.
Kenneth D. 'K.D.' Lewis
Grand Island resident Kenneth D. "K.D." Lewis, 73, died Saturday, Jan. 11, 1997, in Grand Island.
Services are 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Govier Brothers Mortuary chapel in Broken Bow. Burial will be in Broken Bow Cemetery. Kleine Funeral Home of Grand Island is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors are his wife; two sons, Ronald Ralph and Kevin Dale, both of Hastings; one daughter; five brothers; one sister; and four grandchildren.
DeAnte' Nicolarsen

Survivors are his parents; one brother, Trey of Hastings; grandparents, Mike and Deb Nicolarsen, Jewell and Fern Tomjack and Gloria Hamik, all of Hastings; and great-grandparents, Jerry and Virginia Nicolarsen of Hastings and Bette Whitehead of Cozad.
Memorials may be given to the family.
Bode O. Cervin
Hastings resident Bode O. Cervin, 86, of Good Samaritan Village Villa Grace died Saturday, Jan. 11, 1997, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.
Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Brand-Wilson Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Harold Stromer officiating. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today and 8 a.m. until services Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Cervin was born Oct. 15, 1910, to Olaf Z. and Ruth (Engberg) Cervin in Rock Island, Ill. He moved to Nebraska 50 years ago and to Hastings 10 years ago. He was a brick mason.
He was a member of First St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
He is survived by one brother, David R. of Amarillo, Texas.
Evelyn M. Sherman
Former Hastings resident Evelyn Mary (Cook) Sherman, 78, of Omaha died Friday, Jan. 10, 1997, at Immanuel Fontenelle in Omaha.
Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Hastings with the Rev. Dr. Joe Scahill officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Butler-Volland Funeral Home of Hastings is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Sherman was born March 15, 1918, to Snowden and Orrie (Highland) Cook in Ellis. She attended schools in Ellis and Beatrice. On Jan. 3, 1936, she married Glen S. Sherman in Marysville, Kan. He died in 1969. She moved to Hastings in 1948. In 1996 she moved to Omaha. She was a homemaker.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Survivors are three sons, Gary of Sioux City, Iowa, Gale of Omaha and Gordon of Mound City, Kan.; one daughter, Gloria Watson of Bloomington, Minn.; one sister, Elinor Fritz of Beatrice; 11 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by four brothers.

Velma M. Hollon
Hastings resident Velma Marie (Huntsman) Hollon, 85, of 1110 N. Lexington Ave. died Friday, Jan. 10, 1997, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.
Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Brand-Wilson Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Dr. Joe Scahill officiating. Private family burial will be at a later date. Visitation is 5-9 p.m. today and 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Hollon was born Feb. 28, 1911, to Roseberry Dye and Lula Alice (Beaver) Huntsman in Columbus, Ind. She married Howard H. Hollon. He died March 20, 1977. She moved to Hastings 56 years ago. She was a seamstress for Herberger's and Brach-Thompsen. She also owned DeeVee Dollhouse.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church and was a Golden member of Eagles Auxiliary No. 592.
Survivors are one daughter, DeeAnna Ridge of Hastings; three sisters, Dolly Wallace of Kirkland, Wash., Regina Gilmore of Wichita, Kan., and Lorena McCabe of Stockton, Calif.; two grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.

Marietta D. Pearston
Hastings resident Marietta Dale (Rise) Pearston, 90, of 1222 McDonald Ave. died Thursday, Jan. 9, 1997, at Good Samaritan Village Villa Grace.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Tom Murray officiating. Burial will be in Fairbury Cemetery at Fairbury.
Mrs. Pearston was born Oct. 30, 1906, to LeRoy and Chloe (Williams) Rise in Fairbury. On Nov. 1, 1924, she married Paul Pearston in Washington, Kan. In 1941 they moved to Hastings from Sabetha, Kan. Her husband died Jan. 6, 1996. She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Juniata Community Church in Juniata.
Survivors are one sister, Mildred Nebel of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by two sons and two brothers.
Memorials may be given to Good Samaritan Village.
Flora L. Hobrock
Hastings resident Flora Lorena (Grothen) Hobrock, 92, of 1718 W. Third St. died Friday, Jan. 10, 1997, at Good Samaritan Village Villa Grace.
Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Harold D. Stromer officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery. Butler-Volland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Hobrock was born March 15, 1904, to Conrad and Amelia (Gross) Grothen in Juniata. On Jan. 27, 1927, she married Elmer Hobrock in Juniata. He died June 21, 1977. She was a lifelong Adams County resident, living in Juniata and Hastings. She was a homemaker.
She was a member of First St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
Survivors are one daughter, Eleanor Buss of Hastings; one son, Marvin of Lincoln; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister.
Memorials may be given to First St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
Alice Ehrman
Former Roseland resident Alice (Showalter) Ehrman, 93, died Friday, Jan. 10, 1997, at Anna Sundermann Home in Seward.
Services were to be at 2 p.m. today at the gravesite or Butler-Volland Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. David L. Speicher officiating. Burial was to be in Mennonite Cemetery at Roseland.
Mrs. Ehrman was born Oct. 18, 1903, to George and Amelia (Nice) Showalter near Roseland. On May 2, 1924, she married William Ehrman in Roseland. He died in 1983. She moved to Milford from Roseland in January 1990. She was a homemaker.
Survivors are two daughters, Eileen Hostetler of Milford and Helen Hilger of Hastings; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by one son, Richard; four sisters and four brothers.
Memorials may be given to Anna Sundermann Home.
Donald B. Leonard
Former Hastings resident Donald B. Leonard, 57, of Lincoln died Friday, Jan. 10, 1997, in Lincoln.
Memorial services are 10 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church in Hastings. The remains were cremated. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home of Lincoln is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Leonard was born Sept. 28, 1939, to Lester and Opal (Rash) Leonard in Iowa City, Iowa. He graduated from Hastings Senior High School in 1957. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked for Burlington Railroad before founding the Interstate Travelers Guide and DBL Construction.
He was a member of Hastings Jaycees and past president of Parents Without Partners of Lincoln.
Survivors are four daughters, Donna Huston and Regina Leonard, both of Lincoln, Cindy Chavira of Hastings and Julie Barrientez of Doniphan; one son, Donald B. Jr. of Lincoln; three sisters, Marie Hayes of Hastings, Myrna Huthmacher of Winter Park, Fla., and Helen Dutton of Eustis; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.
A memorial fund has been established at Commercial Federal Bank in Lincoln.
Lloyd R. Yost
Hastings resident Lloyd R. Yost, 85, of 1510 N. Hastings Ave. died Monday, Jan. 13, 1997, at Good Samaritan Village Villa Grace.
Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Ted Uhlig officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery.
Mr. Yost was born Sept. 29, 1911, to John P. and Barbara (Schleunning) Yost in Eldorado. On Nov. 5, 1935, he married Jeannette Murra in Hastings. He was a longtime farmer in Adams County. He also worked in maintenance at Hastings Grain Bin, retiring in 1976. He later worked in the graphic arts department at the Hastings Tribune.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Survivors are his wife; four daughters, Darlene Wolfe of Hastings, Barbara Gray and Jean Ahlin, both of Lincoln, and Linda Raddatz of Sidney; one sister, Mildred Fredricks of Glenvil; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
Memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church.
William H. Meier
Minden resident William H. Meier, 92, died Monday, Jan. 6, 1997, at Mount Carmel Home in Kearney.
Memorial services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Westminster United Presbyterian Church in Minden with the Rev. Dr. Terry Palmer officiating. The remains were cremated. Private family burial will be prior to memorial services at the Minden Cemetery. Layton Funeral Home of Minden is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Meier was born Dec. 23, 1904, to Otto W. and Mary G. (Bothwell) Meier in Lincoln. He grew up in the Lincoln area. He graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1926. He taught history and English at Central High School in San Juan, Puerto Rico. In 1927 he returned to Lincoln. He graduated from the University of Nebraska College of Law in 1930. He was a special agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation from 1932-34. On Aug. 12, 1934, he married Mabel Utter. They lived in Omaha. He worked for the Federal Land Bank until moving to Minden in 1936. He had a private law practice in Minden from 1936-42. He and his wife moved to Omaha where he was assistant U.S. attorney. In 1945 they returned to Minden where he practiced law until retiring. His wife died in 1992.
He was a member of Westminster United Presbyterian Church, Masonic Lodge No. 127 A.F. & A.M. since 1926, Independent Order of Odd Fellows and Danish Brotherhood, all of Minden, Scottish Rite and Tehama Shrine, both of Hastings, United Commercial Travelers of Grand Island and the Nebraska State Bar Association since 1930. He also was a member of the Minden Lions Club, of which he was president from 1948-49, District Governor of Nebraska Lions District 38-R and International Counselor in 1951. He was past president of the Minden Chamber of Commerce, past member and president of Kearney County Senior Citizens Center and past president of Minden Community Services.
Survivors are two sons, William E. of Kearney and Joel F. of Bloomington, Ind.; one daughter, Sarah Jane Peterson of Spokane, Wash; one brother, Fred of Santa Ana, Calif.; and four grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.
Delmar D. Fierstein
Campbell resident Delmar D. Fierstein, 72, died Sunday, Jan. 12, 1997, at Franklin County Memorial Hospital in Franklin.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Westminster United Presbyterian Church in Campbell with the Rev. Lonnie Eschliman officiating. Burial will be in Campbell Presbyterian Cemetery. Campbell Funeral Home of Campbell is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Fierstein was born Jan. 28, 1924, on a farm south of Campbell. He graduated from Campbell High School in 1942. On Aug. 28, 1947, he married Bonnie Jameson. He was a custom combiner, retiring in 1986. He also operated a small salvage yard. He was a lifelong resident of Campbell.
He was a member of Campbell Westminster United Presbyterian Church and of the Campbell Volunteer Fire Department for many years.
Survivors are one daughter, Diane Falgione of Lexington, S.C.; three sons, Lonnie of Doniphan, Mickey of Polk and Daniel of Lincoln; one sister, Lela Blanchard of Omaha; two brothers, Max of Bethpage, Tenn., and Rodney of Colfax, Calif.; and 11 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter and one brother.

Mildred L. Fuller
Franklin resident Mildred L. (Steinkruger) Paulson Fuller, 76, died Saturday, Jan. 11, 1997, at Franklin County Memorial Hospital.
Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Franklin United Methodist Church in Franklin with the Rev. Richard L. Dimond officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today, 9-11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Hutchins Funeral Home in Franklin and 1 p.m. until services at the church.
Mrs. Fuller was born June 16, 1920, to William and Louise (Dependehner) Steinkruger on a farm near Macon. She attended School District 34 and Franklin High School. On Sept. 16, 1943, she married Darrel Paulson in Franklin. On April 19, 1974, she married Armon Fuller in Alma. He died May 8, 1993. She worked for the Franklin Nursing Center for 16 years.
She was a member of United Methodist Church.
Survivors are one daughter, Diana Rezac of Austin, Texas; one stepdaughter, Darlene Brumbaugh of Orleans; two stepsons, Arlon Fuller of Evan, Colo., and Elden Fuller of McCook; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous stepgrandchildren; and stepgreat-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by one daughter, four sisters and 11 brothers.
