Darrel D. Adams
Former Rosedale resident Darrel D. Adams, 66, of Lincoln died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 1997, in Lincoln.
Services were Saturday at Lincoln Berean Church in Lincoln with the Rev. Curt Lehman officiating. Burial was in Lincoln Memorial Park. Butherus-Maser & Love Mortuary of Lincoln was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Adams was born March 15, 1930, to William and Myrtle Adams in Hastings. He was co-owner of Leuck Radio Supply in Lincoln.
He was a member of Lincoln Berean Church, American Legion Post No. 3, Christian Businessmen and Thursday Morning Businessmen's Bible Study.
He is survived by his wife, Joan.
He was preceded in death by a sister.
Memorials may be given to Lincoln Berean Church, Tabitha Hospice in Lincoln or Rosedale Cemetery Association.
Vernon L. Siefken
Trumbull resident Vernon Lyle Siefken, 76, died Monday, Jan.13, 1997, at his home.
Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at Brand-Wilson Funeral Home chapel in Hastings with the Rev. Clinton McDonald officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery at Trumbull. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today and 8 a.m. until service Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Siefken was born Aug. 21, 1920, to Frank and Katie (Campbell) Siefken in Trumbull. He graduated from Trumbull High School in 1938. On June 9, 1946, he married Doris Kothe. He farmed east of Trumbull.
He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church south of Hastings.
Survivors are his wife; one daughter, Cheryl Kegley of Franklin; one son, Kevin of Trumbull; one brother, Myron of Fort Collins, Colo.; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
A memorial will be established.
Odessa M. Anderson
Hastings resident Odessa M. Anderson, 95, died Monday, Jan. 13, 1997, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.
Services are pending with Butler-Volland Funeral Home.
Kathleen McFerren
Hastings resident Kathleen (Knutstrom) McFerren, 84, of 232 Ringland Road died Sunday, Jan. 12, 1997, at Good Samaritan Village Goldbeck Towers.
Services are 2 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Joe Scahill officiating. Burial will be in Juniata Cemetery at Juniata. Visitation is 6-9 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to noon Friday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home. There will be no viewing at the church.
Mrs. McFerren was born June 16, 1912, to Charles and Susan (Salladay) Knutstrom in Biggsville, Ill. She moved with her family to Powell, Wyo., where they farmed. They also developed and operated the local telephone system. She graduated from Hastings College in 1933, majoring in English. On Dec. 24, 1936, she married Darel D. McFerren. They taught and administered the Methodist Mission School in Medan, Sumatra, Indonesia from 1937-42. She taught English and directed the Sunday school program. Their last-minute escape during the Japanese invasion ended their mission tour. She attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., earning a master's degree in English. After the war they returned to Hastings. Her husband was a professor of history at Hastings College. He preceded her in death.
She was a member of the American Literature Club, Hastings Piecemakers and the Hastings College's faculty women's knitting club. She also was a member of First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, P.E.O. Chapter DA and YWCA.
Survivors are one son, Alan of Nappanee, Ind.; one daughter, Susan Koch of Omaha; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Memorials may be given to Hastings College General Scholarship Fund, American Diabetes Association or First United Methodist Church.
Marjorie F. Miserez
Hastings resident Marjorie Fern (Johnson) Miserez, 75, of Good Samaritan Village Perkins Pavilion died Monday, Jan. 13, 1997, at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln.
Services are 10 a.m. Friday at GSV All Saints Chapel with the Rev. Donald E. Boeschen officiating. Graveside services are 3 p.m. at Lyons Cemetery at Lyons with the Rev. Calvin L'Heureux officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives at 9:15 a.m. Friday at the chapel. Butler-Volland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Miserez was born Sept. 1, 1921, to Roy and Laura (Pearson) Johnson in Lyons. She graduated from Omaha South High School in 1939. She attended Wayne State Teachers College. She owned and operated Lucy's Ladies Shop in Dodge for nearly 20 years. In 1973 she moved to the Good Samaritan Village in Hastings.
She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church and Towers Bible Study, both of Hastings.
Survivors are two sons, Joe Aerisolphal of Des Moines and Bob Miserez of Jefferson City, Mo.; two daughters, Betty Miserez of Omaha and Darlene Miserez of Pal Alto, Calif.; one brother, LeRoy Johnson of Moses Lake, Wash.; four sisters, Marie Wieler of West Point, Dorothy Stewart of Portland, Ore., Beverly Leisy of Littleton, Colo., and Donna Sala of Longmont, Colo.; and four grandchildren.

Mrs. Anderson was born June 16, 1901, to John Wesley and Katie Ethelyn (Dellenbaugh) Hendrickson in Peoria, Ill. On April 17, 1922, she married John Pearson Anderson. In 1944 they moved to Hastings from Pauline. She worked at the Naval Ammunition Depot during World War II. She also was a homemaker. Her husband died Sept. 1, 1967.
She was a 50-year member of First United Methodist Church and was a member of its United Methodist Church Women. She also was a 50-year member of O.E.S. Acacia Chapter No. 39.
Survivors are one daughter, Ethelyn Merle "Lyn" Templin of Hastings; two sons, Bernel and Donald of Hastings; 17 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by one brother and one grandchild.
Memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church or O.E.S. Acacia Chapter No. 39.
Maurice C. Holt
Former Tribland resident the Rev. Maurice C. Holt, 89, of Kearney died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 1997, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services are 2 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church in Kearney with the Rev. Dr. Ron Roemmich officiating. Burial with military rites provided by Kearney VFW Post No. 759 and Kearney National Guard Unit will be in Kearney Cemetery. Visitation is from 4-8:30 p.m. Thursday at Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary in Kearney.
Rev. Holt was born Dec. 9, 1907, to William and Leora (Harman) Holt in Sherman, Texas. He moved to San Angelo, Texas, with his family at an early age. He graduated from San Angelo High School and from East Central University in Ada, Okla. On June 17, 1934, he married Velma G. Jones in Marietta, Okla. He graduated from seminary school at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. He served in various United Methodist churches in Oklahoma. In 1943 he entered the U.S. Army as a chaplain. He served in Germany during World War II until 1946. After the war he served as a minister in Bells, Texas, and Fairfax, Okla. In 1951-54, during the Korean War, he returned to Germany to serve as chaplain. They then moved to Nebraska where he served in Harvard, Oakland, Arnold, Nelson, Kenesaw and Amherst. He retired in 1975 and moved to Hastings. In 1977 they moved to Kearney. He served at the Methodist Memorial Home in Holdrege for six years. He also served as retired minister at the First United Methodist Church in Kearney.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Men's Organization, Masonic Lodge and VFW. He was a past member of the Kiwanis Club and had been a Boy Scout leader.
Survivors are his wife; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Chuck; two brothers and one sister.
Memorials may be given to the Music Education Fund at First United Methodist Church or the family.
Angela M. Hamilton
Deweese resident Angela M. (Brouillette) Hamilton, 79, died Sunday, Jan. 12, 1997, in Superior.
Rosary is 7:30 p.m. today and services are 11 a.m. Thursday, both at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church in Deweese with the Rev. Dennis Hunt officiating. Burial will be in Riverton Cemetery at Riverton. Visitation is 5-9 p.m. today at the church. Megrue-Price Funeral Home of Superior is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Hamilton was born May 12, 1917, to Wilfred Joseph and Mary Dellia (Breault) Brouillette near Campbell. She attended Campbell School. On July 20, 1940, she married Donald Hamilton at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Red Cloud.
She was a 40-year member of Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church and a member of its Altar Society.
Survivors are her husband; one son, Dan of Deweese; one daughter, Barbara Coppedge of Rapid City, S.D.; one sister, Lucille Hamilton of North Bend, Ore.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and six sisters.

Earl Hawks
Hebron resident Earl Hawks, 90, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 1997, in Hebron.
Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at United Church of Christ in Belvidere with the Rev. Warren Schoming officiating. Burial will be in Belvidere Cemetery at Belvidere. Visitation is at Farmer and Son Funeral Home in Geneva.
Mr. Hawks was born in Bruning. He married Pauline E. Miller.
He was a charter member of the Nebraska Flying Farmers, of which he was International Flying Farmer of the Year in 1979, a member of Nebraska Aviation Hall of Fame, Fairbury BPO Elks Lodge No. 1203, Hebron Masonic Lodge No. 43 A.F. & A.M., 32 degree Mason, Scottish Rite in Lincoln, Shrine Clown and Flying Fez Units, Seaosris Temple of Lincoln, "Sunshine The Clown" Nebraska Clown Unit and life member of Shriner Hospital. He was a benefactor of Lincoln Foundation and McPherson College. He was 1972 Clown of the Year of the Shrine Clown Unit and was made an Admiral of the Great Navy of Nebraska in 1973.
He is survived by his wife.
Agnes Harms
Former Hildreth resident Agnes (Petersen) Harms, 86, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 1997, at Mount Carmel Home in Kearney.
Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at Layton Funeral Home chapel in Minden with the Rev. Dr. Ronald Roemmich officiating. Burial will be in Hildreth Cemetery at Hildreth. Visitation is 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Harms was born Nov. 6, 1910, to Jorgen and Anna (Hansen) Petersen near Hildreth in Franklin County. She grew up in the Hildreth area. She graduated from Hildreth High School in 1929. She worked at Farmer's Union and Glenn's Grocery, both in Hildreth. She also worked at the telephone company. On April 15, 1942, she married Menn Harms in Hastings. They farmed southwest of Hildreth. After retiring they moved into Hildreth. Her husband died May 9, 1991. She moved to Mount Carmel Home in 1992.
She also was preceded in death by four sisters and one brother.
Memorials may be given to the Golden Years Center in Hildreth.
Elizabeth F. Drake
Red Cloud resident Elizabeth F. (Leadabrand) Hasselbacher Drake, 93, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 1997, at Heritage Care Center in Red Cloud.
Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Simonson-Williams Funeral Home chapel in Red Cloud with the Rev. Al Trucano officiating. Burial will be in Red Cloud Cemetery.
Mrs. Drake was born Aug. 31, 1903, to Frank I. and Margaret (Abel) Leadabrand in Smith County, Kan. She grew up in the Red Cloud area. She graduated from Red Cloud High School. She taught rural schools for a number of years in Red Willow and Webster counties. On June 21, 1928, she married Curtis Hasselbacher. In June 1957 they moved to Blue Hill. He died Dec. 30, 1968. On June 3, 1976, she married Chester Drank. He died Jan. 19, 1978. In 1980 she moved to Good Samaritan Village in Hastings. In December 1994 she moved to Heritage Care Center.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Red Cloud.
Survivors are one daughter, Thelma Wilmot of Hastings; one stepdaughter, Bernice Hasselbacher of Hastings; one brother, Andrew Leadabrand of Greenwood; two sisters, Bernice Elrod of Glendora, Calif., and Ellen Gibbs of Pico Rivera, Calif.; and six grandchildren.
LeRoy V. 'Roy' Alleman
Hastings resident LeRoy V. "Roy" Alleman, 90, of 721 S. First Ave. No. 109, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 1999, at Good Samaritan Village Perkins Pavilion in Hastings.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Grace United Methodist Church in Hastings with the Rev. Jim Miller officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today, 1-9 p.m. Sunday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings and one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church
Mr. Alleman was born Aug. 20, 1909, to Vernon and Fannie (Huncker) Alleman in Loup City. He studied journalism for two years at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. On Feb. 16, 1941, he married Irene Miller. He farmed in the Comstock area and later owned the Grassland News in Thedford. He also was past editor for the Central Nebraska Farmer/Stockman in Cozad and the Custer County Chief in Broken Bow. In 1969 he and his wife moved to Hastings where he retired from the Hastings Tribune as a farm editor. He published two books, "Blizzard of '49" and "The Bloody Saga at Whiterock."
He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. He was a past member of Sertoma, Toastmasters and Men's Bible Study. He was also an honorary member of Future Farmers of America.
Survivors are his wife; one daughter, Carol Nowka of Grand Island; and one son, Daryl of Carbondale, Colo.
He was preceded in death by two brothers.
Memorials may be given to the church.
Ruby Laura Lee Horner
Former Clay Center resident Ruby Laura Lee (Overholser) Horner, 70, of Holdrege died Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, in Lincoln.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Holdrege with the Rev. Melva Tranmer officiating. Burial will be in the Prairie Home Cemetery of Holdrege. Visitation is 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Nelson-Harris Funeral home in Holdrege.
Mrs. Horner was born Jan. 7, 1929, to Leo and Violet (Rennecker) Overholser in Oxford. Her early life was spent in Oxford, Beaver City and Clay Center, where she graduated from high school. On April 29, 1947, she married Lloyd Vernon Horner. They lived in the state of Washington and Hastings before moving to Holdrege. She worked at Great Plains Transportation and Becton Dickinson. She retired in 1992.
Survivors are her husband; one son, Lloyd Lee of Belews Creek, N.C.; one daughter, Rebecca Lynn Horner-Gilliatt of Gilbert, Ariz.; three brothers, Calvin of Victorville, Calif., Paul of Pleasanton, Richard of Roswell, Ga., and Leo Jr. of Wilcox; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Elaine.
Bruno H. Romanowski
Former Harvard resident the Rev. Bruno H. Romanowski, 83, of York died Thursday, Dec. 30, 1999, at Heartstone Nursing Home in York.
Services are 2 p.m. Monday at Alberding-Wilson Funeral Home chapel in Harvard with the Rev. Harry Brown officiating. Burial will be in the Harvard Cemetery. Visitation is 3-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Mr. Romanowski was born Aug. 11, 1916, to Albert and Martha F. (Tanner) Romanowski in Dallas. He attended schools in Dallas and Southern Methodist University in Dallas. He transferred to Elmhurst College in Illinois in 1935. In 1940 he graduated from Eden Theological Seminary in Webster Groves, Mo. He then served Zion Reformed Church and First Evangelical Church in Harvard until 1942. On Aug. 1, 1943, he married Lydia Glantz in Harvard. He served churches in Nebraska, Iowa and Wisconsin until 1986. He then retired to York.
He was chairman of evangelism in the Nebraska-Iowa Conference; vice president of North Wisconsin Synod; and chairman of the Wisconsin Conference Health and Education Board. He was a member of Evangelical Deaconess Hospital Board in Milwaukee. He was also a delegate to the annual conference of the United Church of Christ at Tiffin, Ohio, and Cleveland.
Survivor is his wife.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
Memorials may be given to the Cardiac Rehab-York Hospital or the donor's choice.
Byron M. Gass
Edgar resident Byron M. Gass, 80, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 1999, at Integrated Health Services in Edgar.
Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Williams Funeral Home Chapel in Edgar with the Rev. Tim Wiggins officiating. Burial will be in the Edgar Cemetery.
Mr. Gass was born Nov. 3, 1919, to Charlie and Edith (Miners) Gass in Edgar. He received his education at Edgar schools. In 1935, he moved to the family farm near Edgar with parents. On Aug. 10, 1944, he married Lorene Fitzke in Edgar. In 1954 the couple moved from the farm into Edgar where he began work as a carpenter.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Clay Center since 1946. He became a resident of Integrated Health Services in 1996.
Survivors include his wife; two sisters, Erma Johnson of Hastings and Charlene Harvey of Bay City, Mich.
He was preceded in death by a brother.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be given to the Edgar Rescue Squad or Zion Lutheran Church in Clay Center.
Helen F. Meester
Hastings resident Helen F. (Tibbles) Meester, 92, of Good Samaritan Village Perkins Pavilion, died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2000, at Perkins Pavilion.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home chapel in Hastings with the Rev. Carl W. Utley officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. until services Thursday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Meester was born Nov. 23, 1907, to Clifton and Jennie (Dillard) Tibbles in Macedonia, Iowa. She graduated in 1926 from Hastings Senior High School, then earned her teaching certificate from Hastings College. She taught school for two years, then worked for Lincoln Telephone and Telegraph for seven years in Hastings. On Feb. 27, 1937, she married Louis L. Meester in Hastings. They moved from McCook to Hastings in 1965. On March 4, 1988, her husband died.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Church Circle and the United Commercial Travelers Ladies Club.
Survivors are one son, Robert L. of Lincoln; one brother, Walter of Athens, Texas; one grandchild; three stepgrandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother and one stepgrandchild.

Marjorie D. McPherson
Former Hastings resident Marjorie D. (Hering) McPherson, 77, of Papillion, died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2000, at Bergan Mercy Medical Center in Omaha.
Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mark's Episcopal Pro-Cathedral in Hastings with the Very Rev. Richard Martindale officiating. Burial will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook. Visitation is 4-8:30 p.m. today with the family present from 7-8:30 p.m. at Brand-Wilson Funeral Home in Hastings.
Mrs. McPherson was born March 23, 1922, to George and Dora (Stark) Hering in Osmond. In 1939 she graduated from high school in Lusk, Wyo., then married Harold G. McPherson. She and her husband moved throughout the South during World War II. In 1955 her husband died. She worked in southern California for a short time before returning to Nebraska, where she lived in McCook and Hastings. She was employed by Mid-Nebraska Mental Retardation program in Hastings and retired in 1987.
She was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Pro-Cathedral and its Women's Morning and Altar Guilds. She also was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Business and Professional Women in Hastings and the American Legion Auxiliary in McCook.
Survivors are two sons, Richard G. of Cottage Grove, Minn., and Robert H. of Omaha; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.
Memorials may be given to the church.
