Frankie M. Hollingshead
Red Cloud resident Frankie May (Minor) Hollingshead, 98, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, at Webster County Hospital in Red Cloud.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Congregational Church in Riverton with the Rev. Mike Lehr officiating. Burial will be in the Riverton Cemetery. Simonson-Williams Funeral Home of Red Cloud is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Hollingshead was born Aug. 29, 1901, to William and Cassander (Davis) Minor in Cedar Bluffs, Kan. She moved with her family in 1906 to a farm near Atwood, Kan. She graduated from school in Atwood in 1919. She then taught country school for two years. On Aug. 24, 1921, she married Artie Bryan Hollingshead. They lived in Wilsonville for about 10 years and then St. Frances, Kan., for two years. In 1933 they moved to Riverton. In 1961 they retired to El Monte, Calif. On Oct. 29, 1983, her husband died. She returned to Red Cloud in 1992.
She attended the Congregational Church. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Wilsonville, Riverton and El Monte and a member of the Royal Neighbors in Riverton and El Monte. She also was a member of the Grange and Grandmother's Club in El Monte and the "Laugh A Lot Card Club" in Riverton.
Survivors are two daughters, Marjorie Reams Nelson of San Antonio, Texas, and Lois Wescoat of Red Cloud; one son, Raymond "Pete" of Riverton; one brother, Leland of Orange, Calif.; one sister, Lois Hazard of Covina, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Harold; four brothers; and three sisters.

Marvin Marr
Superior resident Marvin Marr, 79, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, at Brodstone Memorial Nuckolls County Hospital in Superior.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Megrue-Price Funeral Home chapel in Superior with the Rev. Harold Backus officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Superior. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. until services Saturday at the funeral home.
Mr. Marr was born March 1, 1920, to Curtis and Florence (Mumert) Marr near Lovewell, Kan. He graduated in 1937 from Lovewell Schools. On March 14, 1942, he married Geraldine Heflin in Salina, Kan. From 1942-45, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the American Theater. He then returned to Superior where he worked at B&S Tire Market for many years.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church and the American Legion Post. He was awarded the American Theater Ribbon, EAMET Ribbon and Good Conduct Medal.
Survivors are his wife; two sons, Jim of Superior and Joe of Lakewood, Colo.; three daughters, Judy Suchsland of Kearney and Jana Marr and Jodie Schultz, both of Superior; two brothers, Edwin of Harlingen, Texas, and Dwight of Webber, Kan.; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister.
Memorials may be given to the United Methodist Church.

Margaret L. Bloom
Hastings resident Margaret L. (Stoddard) Bloom, 74, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, at BryanLGH Medical Center East in Lincoln.
Services are at a later date. Burial will be at a later date in the North Platte Cemetery. Aspen After Care in Lincoln is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Bloom was born May 6, 1925, to Archie and Grace Stoddard in Harrisburg. She married Raymond Bloom. He preceded her in death.
Survivors four daughters, Peggy Bloom of Colorado, Diana Leautersack of Houston, Betty Wood and Pamela Kahler, both of North Platte; one son, Arthur of North Platte; one sister, Jessie Liemkohl of Kimball; two brothers, Mike of Idaho and Bud of Gering; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Gregory L. 'Greg' Young
Former Hastings resident Gregory L. "Greg" Young, 43, of Fairfield, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, at BryanLGH Medical Center East in Lincoln.
Graveside services are 3 p.m. Monday at Parkview Cemetery in Hastings with the Rev. Bill Liddell officiating. Visitation is noon to 2 p.m. Monday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings.
Mr. Young was born Oct. 27, 1956, to John and Marilee (Daugherty) Young. He grew up in Hastings and later moved to Fairfield. On March 9, 1999, he married Leah Bashor. He worked as a car mechanic. He also drag raced and drove race cars.
Survivors are his wife; two daughters; his father and stepmother, Arlette; two sisters, Kathy Batten of Juniata and Donna Bramman of Hastings; and three brothers, Terry of Clay Center, Scott of Fairfield and Dwayne.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Memorials may be given to the family.

Leo Ochsner
Sutton resident Leo Ochsner, 79, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, at his home.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at Emmanuel Reformed Church in Sutton with the Rev. George Syms officiating. Burial will be in the Sutton Cemetery with military rites conducted by Argonne American Legion Post No. 61 of Sutton. Kohler Mortuary of Sutton is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Ochsner was born April 14, 1920, to Gustav and Martha (Billigmeier) Ochsner near Stockham. He attended District No. 14 country school in Clay County. He served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps during World War II. In 1949 he married Irene Lucille Miller near Geneva. They farmed near Saronville. In 1979 they moved into Sutton.
He was a member of the Emmanuel Reformed Church and the Argonne American Legion Post No. 61. He also served on the Co-op Board in Eldora.
Survivors are his wife; three sons, Lauren of Maurice, Iowa, and Lyndon and Lon, both of rural Saronville; two sisters, Alice Ollenburg of Omaha and Doris Gans of Park Forrest, Ill.; three brothers, Roy of Lincoln, Reuben of Omaha and Milton of Seattle; and 14 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers.
Memorials may be given to Juvenile Diabetes Foundation; Sutton Christian School; Unity Christian School in Orange City, Iowa; or Sioux Center Christian Grade School in Sioux Center, Iowa.

Sonja M. Latimer
Doniphan resident Sonja M. (Amick) Latimer, 48, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, at her home after a year-long battle with cancer.
A private family service will be at a later date. There is no visitation. The remains were cremated. Butler-Volland Funeral Home of Hastings is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Latimer was born Sept. 13, 1951, to Carl and Renee (Youngson) Amick in Grand Island. She graduated from high school in Doniphan in 1969 and attended Temple Buell College in Denver. She lived in Arizona for many years until 1992 when she returned to Doniphan. She worked as a licensed real estate salesperson and was a partner with her brother in Amick Realty in Doniphan. She and her family were instrumental in developing Amick Acres East and Amick Acres West subdivisions near Doniphan. She also worked with her father in the Amick livestock business as a licensed and bonded livestock dealer.
She earned several awards in the Nebraska Quarter Horse Association and the Nebraska High School Rodeo.
Survivors are her parents of Doniphan; one brother, John of Doniphan; and her grandmothers, Lillian Amick of Grand Island and Victoria Youngson of Minden.
She was preceded in death by her grandfathers.

Esther V. Yoder
Shickley resident Esther V. (Saltzman) Yoder, 88, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, in Fairmont.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at Salem Mennonite Church in rural Shickley with the Rev. Wilton Detweiler officiating. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery in Shickley. Visitation starts at 1 p.m. Sunday at Farmer & Son Funeral Home in Geneva.
Mrs. Yoder was born May 28, 1911, to Peter and Elizabeth (Reeb) Saltzman in Fairmont. She married Ralph R. Yoder and he later preceded her in death.
Survivors are one son, Merlin of Grand Island; one brother, LeVoy of Shickley; two sisters, Beulah Roth of Milford and Verna Saltzman of Shickley; three grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and six great-stepgrandchildren.
Memorials may be given to the church.

Doris L. Richards
Geneva resident Doris Louise (Merrill) Richards, 72, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2000, in Lincoln.
Services are 10 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Geneva with the Rev. Brian Kottas officiating. Burial will be in the Geneva Public Cemetery. Visitation began at 10 a.m. today at Farmer & Son Funeral Home in Geneva.
Mrs. Richards was born Dec. 10, 1927, to Fred and Irene (Anderson) Merrill in Geneva. She married Cecil Dean Richards. He preceded her in death.
Survivors are two sons, Blaine of Grafton and Rodger of Geneva; one sister, Phyllis Traudt of Hebron; and four grandchildren.
Memorials in lieu of flowers may be given to the family.

Helen Doggett
Nelson resident Helen (Ritterbush) Petty Doggett, 87, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2000, at Brodstone Memorial Nuckolls County Hospital in Superior.
Services are 2 p.m. Friday at Nelson Community United Church of Christ with the Rev. Dr. Ralph Sturdy officiating. Burial will be in the Nelson Cemetery. Visitation is until 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. until services Friday at Klawitter-Price Funeral Home in Nelson.
Mrs. Doggett was born Nov. 9, 1912, to Charles and Maude (Smith) Ritterbush near Nelson. She graduated in 1930 from Nelson High School and attended teacher's college in Lincoln for two years. She taught at Pleasantview School north of Nelson. On June 2, 1934, she married John Petty. They worked in the cafe business until his death on April 6, 1953. She later operated the Hilltop Cafe in Superior for 15 years. On Dec. 23, 1972, she married Cleo Doggett. They lived in Chicago for several years before returning to Nelson.
She was a member of the Nelson Community United Church of Christ and the Nelson American Legion Auxiliary. She was a past member of the Eagles Auxiliary and the Nelson Rebekah Lodge.
Survivors are her husband; two daughters, Mary Culbertson and Willa Schutte, both of Nelson; one stepdaughter, Dixie Seddon of Winslow, Ark.; one son, Charles David Petty of Charleston, S.C.; one stepson, Glenn Doggett of Chicago Ridge, Ill.; seven grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 15 stepgreat-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by one brother.

Audra M. Copley
Riverton resident Audra M. (Wistrand) Copley, 81, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2000, at her home.
Services are 2 p.m. Friday at the Christian Fellowship Evangelical Free Church in Franklin with the Revs. Frank Alexander, Dwain Fowler and Jim Hossler officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Franklin. Visitation is 1 p.m. until services Friday at the church. Hutchins Funeral Home of Franklin is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Copley was born May 19, 1918, to Harry and Frona (Schulke) Wistrand near Wray, Colo. She attended rural Griffin school in Phillips County, Kan., and graduated from Naponee High School in 1936. She then attended teachers training at Kearney Teacher's College. She taught school at Simmons School in Phillips County, Liberty School in Smith County, Kan., and District No. 34 in Franklin County. On April 9, 1939, she married Chris C. Copley in Nelson. He preceded her in death on May 13, 1992.
She was a member of the Christian Fellowship Evangelical Free Church, the Fellowship Christian Women's Ministry, Extension Club and Arts Group, all in Franklin. She also served on the church board, museum board and as a deaconess.
Survivors are two daughters, JoAnn Hossler of Dodge City, Kan., and Ruth Hostetler of Indianapolis, Ind.; two sons, James of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Paul of Riverton; one brother, Robert of Franklin; one sister, Phyllis Smith of Canyon City, Colo.; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by one brother.

Neil D. Rose
Former Blue Hill resident Neil D. Rose, 57, of Colorado Springs, Colo., died Jan. 29, 2000, at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs.
Services were Feb. 1 at Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Colorado Springs with the Rev. James Koch officiating. Burial was in Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Colorado Springs. Swan-Law Funeral Home of Colorado Springs was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Rose was born Jan. 30, 1942, to Andrew and Evelyn (Meyer) Rose in Blue Hill. He attended Trinity Lutheran Parochial School in Blue Hill and graduated from Blue Hill High School in 1960. He served in the U.S. Navy until 1964 as an aviation electrician's mate. He was stationed in Florida, Nevada and California. He then worked as a telephone technician in California, Texas and Colorado. On Aug. 29, 1989, he married Joyce Ramey in Colorado Springs.
He was a member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church.
Survivors are his wife; two sons, Ed D'Avignon of Kingston, N.Y., and Keith D'Avignon of Running Springs, Calif.; one daughter, Wendy D'Avignon of Colorado Springs; his mother of Blue Hill; one sister, Elaine Southerland of Antioch, Calif.; and two brothers, Al of Colorado Springs and Bob of Kansas City, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Memorials may be given to the Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 918 E. Cache La Poudre St., Colorado Springs, CO 80903.

Donna M. Jensen
Harvard resident Donna M. Jensen, 61, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2000, at Aurora Memorial Hospital.
Services are pending with Alberding-Wilson Funeral Home in Harvard.

Evelyn R. Jones
Former Hastings resident Evelyn R. (Peterson) Jones, 86, of Westminster, Colo., died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, in Westminster.
Services were Feb. 10 at Grand Valley Methodist Church in Parachute, Colo. Burial was in Battlement Mesa Cemetery at Parachute. Sowder Funeral Home of Rifle, Colo., was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Jones was born April 15, 1913, to Oscar and Hannah Peterson in Hershey. She graduated from high school in Bertrand and from Fairbury Junior College. She taught school in Nebraska, Kansas and Colorado. On Dec. 17, 1939, she married John O. Jones. They moved from Hastings to Sutton in 1960 and later to Salina, Kan. In 1986 they retired to Battlement Mesa in Parachute. In 1990 her husband died. She lived in Sutton from 1994-96, when she moved to Westminster.
She was a member of the Federated Church and the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 54 in Sutton.
Survivors are one son, James of Westminster; two daughters, Jeannine Fehr of Sutton and Jacque Peterson of Hesston, Kan.; one sister, Edith Vaughan of Fremont; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son; two brothers; and one sister.
Memorials may be given to the family.

Edgerray T. Beach
Glenvil resident Edgerray T. Beach, 75, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000, at St. Elizabeth Regional Medical Center in Lincoln.
Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home chapel in Hastings with the Rev. Tim Wiggins officiating.

Ella M. Longbrake
Hebron resident Ella M. (Bock) Longbrake, 95, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000, in Hebron.
Services are 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Blue Valley Nursing Home chapel in Hebron with the Rev. Warren Schoming officiating. Burial will be in the Hebron City Cemetery. Visitation is until 8 p.m. today at Price Funeral Home in Hebron and two hours prior to services Saturday at Blue Valley Nursing Home.
Mrs. Longbrake was born Nov. 14, 1904, to August and Anna (Pape) Bock in Deshler. She married Eugene Longbrake. He preceded her in death.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
She also was preceded in death by two brothers.
Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church or the Blue Valley Nursing Home.

Rolland F. Kahman
Fairfield resident Rolland Fredrick Kahman, 83, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.
Services are 10 a.m. Monday at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Glenvil with the Rev. Timothy Wiggins officiating. Burial will be in the Fairfield Cemetery. McLaughlin Funeral Home of Clay Center is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Kahman was born March 25, 1916, to John F. and Ora (Wildt) Kahman near Glenvil. He attended the Anan Rural School and graduated in 1934 from Fairfield High School. On Oct. 7, 1939, he married Mildred M. Wakelin in Glenvil. They farmed near Glenvil. They later moved to Oklahoma City where he ran a nationwide trailer business. They returned to Fairfield to farm.
He was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Glenvil.
Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Vickie Wells of Mesa, Ariz., and Connie Konecny of Omaha; two sons, Larry of Sioux City, Iowa, and Richard of Fairfield; and four grandchildren.
Memorials may be given to the church.

Harry J. Obitz
Red Cloud resident Harry J. Obitz, 88, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000, at BryanLGH Medical Center East in Lincoln.
Rosary is 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Red Cloud with the Rev. Stanley Schieffer officiating. Burial with military services will be at Red Cloud Cemetery. Simonson-Williams Funeral Home of Red Cloud is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Obitz was born Nov. 11, 1911, to Harry and Charlotte (Sorensen) Obitz in Marin County, Calif. A San Rafael, Calif., area native, Obitz became a golf professional, winning his first tournament in 1928. A former Professional Golfers Association golf tour professional, he played the tour in the 1930s and entered the 1932 British Open in Scotland. He is best-known in golf as co-founder with Dick Farley of "Swing's the Thing" golf schools. He also was credited with Craig Wood for first establishing golf in the Bahamas. He was head professional for years at Shawnee on the Delaware golf resort in Pennsylvania for musician Fred Waring. He was a World War II veteran, serving from 1941 to 1945 as Chief Petty Officer in charge of sea-going tugs. On Jan. 3, 1947, he married Helen Gertrude Frame at Red Cloud. They lived in Red Cloud while he traveled extensively around the world with his golf business. From the mid-1960s to mid-1970s, he was director of golf for the Bahamian government. He was instrumental in designing a number of golf courses, including Lochland Country Club in Hastings and the Red Cloud Golf Course, and consulted in the building of Heritage Hills in McCook. He wrote several books about golf, including "Six Days to Better Golf," with partner, Dick Farley. He was instructional editor for Golf Magazine for 36 years. His wife died Nov. 18, 1984.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was inducted into the Northern California and Nebraska golf halls of fame. He was a charter member of the Willa Cather Pioneer Memorial and Education Foundation; served on the Webster County Community Hospital Foundation board; and was past president of the South Platte United Chambers of Commerce. He was a lifetime member of the PGA of America, life member of the Vallejo, Calif., Elks Lodge No. 559 and Golf Writers Association of America; and was a member of the Red Cloud Chamber of Commerce and Webster County Museum.
Survivors are one son, Benson of Chico, Calif.; and one brother, John Mino of Monte Rio, Calif.
Memorials may be given to the Red Cloud High School Athletic Fund.

Francis D. Rose
Fairmont resident Francis D. Rose, 75, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, in Wilber.
Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Fairmont Community Church in Fairmont with the Rev. Betsy Gallaway-Carew officiating. Private burial will be at a later date with military honors conducted by Lt. Forbes American Legion Post No. 21. Visitation is at Farmer & Son Funeral Home in Geneva.
Mr. Rose was born April 7, 1924, to James and Nora (Lynch) Rose in Fairmont.
Survivors are his wife, Della; one son, William of Austin, Texas; three daughters, Judy Vacek of Papillion, Jan Morrison of Littleton, Colo., and Beverly Buhr of Beatrice; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be given to Fairmont Senior Center, American Legion Post No. 21, Fairmont Fire and Rescue or the church.
