Irene Christy
Red Cloud resident Irene (Sutton) Christy, 94, died Monday, July 24, 2000, at Heritage Care Center in Red Cloud.
Services are 2 p.m. Friday at Simonson-Williams Funeral Home chapel in Red Cloud with the Rev. Michael Lehr officiating. Burial will be in the Red Cloud Cemetery.
Mrs. Christy was born Jan. 26, 1906, to John and Grace E. (Arneson) Sutton in Inavale. She attended Walnut Creek rural school and Red Cloud High School. On May 2, 1922, she married Frank D. Christy in Franklin. They lived in the Riverton area and moved to Inavale in 1955. On March 17, 1974, her husband died.
She was a former member of the Inavale Methodist Church and a member of the Red Cloud Methodist Church.
Survivors are one daughter, Priscilla J. Hollingshead of Inavale; one son, Robert J. of Pasco, Wash.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by two sisters.
LaVerne H. Kuehn
Former Roseland resident LaVerne H. Kuehn, 74, of Lincoln died Tuesday, July 25, 2000, at Tabitha Nursing Center in Lincoln.
Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lincoln with the Rev. Duane Voorman officiating. Burial will in be in Lincoln Memorial Cemetery in Lincoln. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday with family present 5-7 p.m. at Metcalf Funeral Home in Lincoln.
Mr. Kuehn was born July 8, 1926, to Ferdinand and Eda (Kleier) Kuehn in Roseland. From 1945-46 he served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the North Pacific. He married Neola B. Nienhueser. She died in 1995. He worked for Aid Association for Lutherans.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he was an elder and a member of the male chorus. He also was a member of the Million Dollar Round Table and president of National Lutheran Parent Teacher League. He served on board of directors for Lincoln Association of Life Underwriters and American Legion Post No. 3. He received the National Quality Award from the National Association of Life Underwriters.
Survivors are three sons, Gerald L. and Vern J., both of Omaha, and Ronald L. of Lincoln; one brother, Edward of Hastings; one sister, Cohleen Nienhueser of McCook; and eight grandchildren.
Memorials in lieu of flowers may be given to the Lutheran Hour Ministries or Lutheran Laymans League, Nebraska District Special Projects.
Joan G. Harlow
Former Lawrence resident Joan Gertrude (Walz) Harlow, 74, of Greeley, Colo., died Thursday, July 20, 2000, at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley.
Memorial services are 10 a.m. Aug. 11 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greeley. The remains were cremated. Stoddard Funeral Home of Greeley is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Harlow was born Aug. 11, 1925, to Charles F. and Katherine (Jurgensmeier) Walz in Lawrence. She attended Lawrence Schools and graduated from Lawrence High School in 1942. On June 3, 1946, she married Edson Dewey Harlow in Hastings. She lived in Albany, Ore., for 30 years and then moved to Mesa, Ariz., where she lived for seven years. On Nov. 13, 1987, her husband died.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Survivors are three sisters, Mary Black of Portland, Ore., Doris Schiefelbein of Lincoln and Teresa Masters of Greeley; and three brothers, Charles H. of Grand Island, Richard L. of Lincoln and Raymond of Salem, Ore.
She also was preceded in death by two brothers.
Memorials may be given to the church in care of the funeral home.
Doris M. Noel
Hastings resident Doris M. Noel, 74, of Good Samaritan Village Perkins Pavilion died Tuesday, July 25, 2000, at Perkins Pavilion.
Rosary is 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home chapel in Hastings. Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Roseland with the Rev. Christopher Kubat officiating. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery in Heartwell. Visitation is 1-9 p.m. Thursday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and 8-9:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Ms. Noel was born March 30, 1926, to Martin and Frances (Dempewolf) Noel in Heartwell. She attended school in Kearney County and Heartwell Grade School.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Survivors are one daughter, Rose Eisenhower of Nebraska City; two brothers, Donald of Wheeler, Miss., and Richard of Lincoln; and two sisters, Mary Lou Irwin and Kathleen Nelson, both of Lincoln.
She was preceded in death by one brother.
Memorials may be given to Good Samaritan Village Employees Scholarship Fund or to the church.
Charles W. Lanning
Hastings resident Charles W. Lanning, 83, of 1638 Morningside Drive died Tuesday, July 25, 2000, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.
Services are 2 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church in Hastings with the Rev. Dr. Sam Rathod and the Rev. Earl Higgins officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Visitation is 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 1-9 p.m. Sunday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings.
Mr. Lanning was born May 31, 1917, to Walter R. and Florence (Wilson) Lanning in Trenton, N.J. He grew up in Trenton and graduated from Hamilton Township High School in New Jersey in 1935. He then graduated in 1939 from Syracuse University in New York with a degree in chemical engineering. On Aug. 30, 1941, he married Harriette Mila Charlesworth in Ogdensburg, N.Y. He worked for the Tennessee Valley Authority in Sheffield, Ala., and Bureau of Mines Synthetic Fuels Plant in Louisiana, Mo. He then worked for Farmland Industries in Lawrence, Kan., and moved to Hastings in 1973 as a manager of the company. He retired in 1982.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church where he served on the board of trustees and finance committee. He served on the advisory board for the Salvation Army, United Way and YMCA. He was a member of the Red Cross board and Lochland Country Club. He was past president of Hastings Kiwanis and past lieutenant governor of Nebraska/Iowa District Kiwanis Club. He also was a volunteer for Meals On Wheels.
Survivors are his wife; two sons, Charles F. of Raleigh, N.C., and Edward G. of Overland Park, Kan.; three daughters, Mary Ruth Benson of Potomac, Md., Martha L. McMillen of Eugene, Ore., and Doris E. Avalos of El Sobrante, Calif.; one brother, William of Hawkensville, Ga.; 16 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be given to the Salvation Army, the church or donor"s choice.
Eldred J.C. Hinz
Edgar resident Eldred John Carl Hinz, 75, died Tuesday, July 25, 2000, at Integrated Health Services Nursing Home in Edgar.
Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mark"s Lutheran Church in Ruskin with the Rev. Robert Mrosko officiating. Burial will be in Spring Creek Cemetery near Ruskin. Williams Funeral Home of Edgar is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Hinz was born Jan. 19, 1925, to Carl August "Charlie" and Erna (Eilers) Hinz near Superior. He attended grade school in Nuckolls County, Nelson High School and Coyne Electrical College in Chicago. From 1942-44 he served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Purdy as a chief petty officer. He returned to Nuckolls County to farm. On June 1, 1947, he married Evaline Horst near Ruskin. They farmed near Oak and he also worked for Farmers Union Co-op in Nora.
He was a member of St. Mark"s Lutheran Church where he served on boards and committees. He was a Cubmaster and Boy Scout leader in the Ruskin and Oak areas and received the Boy Scouts of America Honor Medal for Heroic Action. He served as county commissioner and was an umpire for baseball games for 20 years. He also was a member of Ruskin American Legion and the Nelson VFW.
Survivors are his wife; six sons, Ray of Edgar, Glenn of Hebron, Lynn of Saratoga, Wyo., Dean of Omaha, Neal of Lincoln and Dale of San Jose, Calif.; one daughter, Marlene Cox of Kansas City, Mo.; two brothers, Raymond of Lakewood, Colo., and LeRoy of Oak; five sisters, Gertrude Brandt of Nora, Margie Zoch, Darlene Medina and Rose Plock, all of Deshler, and Shirley Hinz of Lincoln; 21 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother.
Evelyn E. Ruhter
Juniata resident Evelyn E. (Karr) Ruhter, 66, died Tuesday, July 25, 2000, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.
Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at Christ Lutheran Church in rural Juniata with the Rev. Greg Volzke officiating. Burial will be in Concordia Cemetery in rural Juniata. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings and one hour prior services Saturday at the church.
Mrs. Ruhter was born April 27, 1934, to Lavern and Ada (Perkey) Karr in rural Doniphan. He attended District 11 grade school and graduated from Doniphan High School in 1952. On April 5, 1953, she married Milton E. Ruhter at Christ Lutheran Church in rural Juniata. She moved to the Juniata area in 1953.
She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and Christ Lutheran Ladies Guild. She also held several offices in the Lutheran Women"s Missionary League. She was a volunteer for Healthy Beginnings, Spouse Abuse/Sexual Assault Center and Crossroads Center, all in Hastings.
Survivors are her husband; two sons, Marty of Dubuque, Iowa, and Bryan of Omaha; one daughter, Marsha Trosper of Bloomingdale, Ill.; one sister, Gladys Rolls of Grand Island; and four grandchildren.
Memorials may be given to the Lutheran Women"s Missionary League or Christ Lutheran School in Juniata.
Arnold M. 'Red' Ehlers Sr.
Superior resident Arnold M. "Red" Ehlers Sr., 80, died Wednesday, July 26, 2000, in Superior.
Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at Megrue-Price Funeral Home chapel in Superior with the Rev. Warren Schoming officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Superior. Visitation is 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Mr. Ehlers was born Dec. 26, 1919, to Hans and Marie (Harder) Ehlers in Waterloo. He attended grade school and high school in Elkhorn. He graduated from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 1950 with a bachelor"s degree in business administration and engineering administration. He also attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. From 1941-45 he served in the U.S. Navy. On Sept. 21, 1944, he married Catherine Mickey Swenson in Chicago. She died Jan. 21, 1984. He married Betty Haag Alexander on Dec. 29, 1985, in Hebron. He operated Reds Tire in Superior and later changed the name to Superior Tire. He also operated branches in Hebron, Minden and Deshler. He and his wife lived in Weslaco, Texas, during the winter.
He was a member of the Century Club, American Legion, VFW, Eagles, Elks, UNO Alumni Association, Disabled American Veterans and LCI Association. He was a former Nuckolls County commissioner.
Survivors are his wife; five sons, Arnold Jr. of Hebron, James E. of Wilbur, Michael A. of Bedford, Texas, John H. of Lincoln and Edward R. of Corpus Christi, Texas; two stepsons, Ronald Alexander of Omaha and Randall Alexander of Kearney; three daughters, Patricia M. Genzmer of Lincoln, Esther J. Hoops of Friend and Marilyn J. Ehlers of Corpus Christi; three stepdaughters, Teresa Alexander of Lincoln, Carla Alexander of Kearney and Tammy Hageman of Denison, Iowa; three sisters, Dorothy M. Jansen of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Marjorie A. Cooper of Joplin, Mo., and Marilyn J. Pillar of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one brother, Eldon G. of Centerville, Va.; 15 grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.

Lola Wachs Conn
Harvard resident Lola (Clemans) Wachs Conn, 81, died Tuesday, July 25, 2000, at the Harvard Rest Haven in Harvard.
Services are 2:30 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church in Franklin with the Rev. Neil Kloppenborg officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Bloomington. Visitation is 9 a.m. until services Friday at the church. Simmons Mortuary of Smith Center, Kan., is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Conn was born Feb. 12, 1919, to Jesse H. and Rosa Belle (Secrest) Clemans in Smith Center. She married Carl Henry Wachs. He preceded her in death. She married Max Conn on Nov. 25, 1990.
She was a past member of the Bloomington Methodist Church and the Mary Circle.
Survivors are her husband; one daughter, Carla Cooper of Houston; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
Memorials may be given to the Harvard Rest Haven Building Fund or Alzheimer"s Disease Research.
Marlene J. Pietila
Esbon, Kan., resident Marlene Jean (Brown) Pietila, 76, died Monday, July 24, 2000, at Jewell County Hospital Long Term Care in Mankato, Kan.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at Dalton and Sons Funeral Home chapel in Lewisville, Texas. Burial will be at Hill Top Memorial Park in Carrollton, Texas. Melby Mortuary of Mankato is in charge of local arrangements.
Mrs. Pietila was born Sept. 13, 1923, to Leland and Anna Brown in Duluth, Minn. She grew up in the Duluth area. In 1945 she married Tauno M. Pietila. They moved to Dallas in 1961. She worked for Marriott Corp. Her husband died in 1971. She retired in 1986 and moved to Esbon.
Survivors are one daughter, Kris Kindler of Esbon; four sons, Tom and Robert, both of Shelter Cove, Calif., Rocky of Colony, Texas, and Mike of Saco, Mass.; and 10 grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by one sister.

Genevieve L. Beermann
Hastings resident Genevieve Leon (Owens) Beermann, 89, of Good Samaritan Village, died Thursday, July 27, 2000, at Good Samaritan Village Perkins Pavilion.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hastings with the Rev. Harold Stromer officiating. Services also will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Salem Lutheran Church near Dakota City with the Rev. Karen Kaye officiating. Burial will be in the Dakota City Cemetery. Visitation is 3-9 p.m. Saturday, 1-9 p.m. Sunday and 8 a.m. until services at Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings.
Mrs. Beermann was born Sept. 1, 1910, to Arthur and Lenora Owens in Carroll. She attended Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa, and Wayne State College in Wayne. She then taught school. In 1939 she married Ray C. Beermann. She taught music privately and in several rural schools in Dakota County. She and her husband were co-owners and operators of Butler-Beermann Mortuary in South Sioux City and Ponca. They later operated a farm near Dakota City. In 1966 they moved to Hastings and were associated with Butler-Volland Funeral Home. She was a paraprofessional in the Hastings Public Schools and at St. Cecilia's High School. She also taught private piano lessons. Her husband died in April 1971.
She was a former member and choir director of Salem Lutheran Church in Dakota City. She was a member and former choir director of First St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hastings. She also was a member of P.E.O. for more than 50 years and Order of the Eastern Star for 68 years.
Surviving is one brother, Howard of LaGrange, Ill.
She was preceded in death by two brothers.

Adolph L. Amundson
Hastings resident Adolph Lee Amundson, 84, died Wednesday, July 26, 2000, at a hospital in Lincoln.
Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at The Jolliffe Funeral Home in Scottsbluff with the Rev. Wayne Alloway officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park in Scottsbluff. Visitation is 7-8 p.m. today and prior to services Saturday at the funeral home.
Mr. Amundson was born May 30, 1916, to Adolph and Josephine (Bridwell) Amundson in Grano, N.D. He grew up in the Grano area and graduated from high school in Minot, S.D. He lived in Bend, Ore., for a short while. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II in Guam. On Sept. 3, 1943, he married Viola May Cramer in Santa Rosa, Calif. He lived in Mohall, N.D., and then moved to Scottsbluff in 1953. He worked in wholesale and retail sales in Scottsbluff until he retired in 1978. His wife died in 1972. On Nov. 25, 1973, he married Rose M. Horn in Scottsbluff. They moved to Hastings in 1993.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Scottsbluff, Elks Lodge No. 1367, VFW and Robert W. Furnas Lodge No. 265 AF and AM.
Survivors are his wife; two sons, Al of Littleton, Colo., and Randy of Lincoln; one daughter, Jane Lukens of Houston; and four grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by one sister.
Memorials may be given to the Nebraska Kidney Foundation.
Dollie A. Colglazier
Neosho Rapids, Kan., resident Dollie A. (Bigler) Colglazier, 84, died Thursday, July 27, 2000, at Newman Memorial Hospital in Emporia, Kan.
Services are 1 p.m. Monday at Hartford United Methodist Church in Hartford, Kan. Burial will be in the Hartford Cemetery. Visitation with family present is 4-6 p.m. Sunday at Jones VanArsdale Funeral Home in Lebo, Kan.
Survivors are one daughter, Rosalie Christy of Hastings; two sons; one brother; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Aileen D. Goedert
Former Hastings resident Aileen D. (Hunt) Goedert, 79, of Northglenn, Colo., died Tuesday, July 25, 2000, at her home.
Memorial services are 1:30 p.m. Monday at Westminster Elks Lodge in Westminster, Colo. Olinger Mortuary of Northglenn is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Goedert was born Nov. 3, 1920, to Oakley and Grace Hunt in Harvard. On Sept. 28, 1940, she married Harold J. Goedert in Hastings. She and her husband moved to Denver in 1963. She was a professional seamstress.
She was a volunteer for Westminster Elks Organization, Belle Bonfils Blood Drive, Special Olympics and Colorado Food Share. She also worked with Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts.
Survivors are her husband; one son, Jerry of Lake McConaughy; two daughters, Sheila Goodman of Longmont, Colo., and Nedra Goedert of North Bend, Wash.; one sister, Margretha Cahill of Riverton; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be given to the National Foundation of the Elks in care of the Westminster Elks Lodge.
Otto A.R. Lambrecht
Kenesaw resident Otto Arthur R. Lambrecht, 92, died Saturday, July 1, 2000, at the Haven Home in Kenesaw.
Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Kenesaw with the Rev. Paul Duffy officiating. Burial will be at the Kenesaw Cemetery. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today, noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Jackson-Wilson Funeral Home in Kenesaw and one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.
Mr. Lambrecht was born Sept. 7, 1907, to August J. and Ottilie (Redman) Lambrecht in rural Kenesaw. He attended public and parochial school for eight years. On May 12, 1937, he married Lilia Kroll in Juniata. They farmed near Kenesaw until 1973 when they moved into Kenesaw.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, and served on the church council as elder and financial secretary and on various boards including education and evangelism, Lutheran Laymens League and Fellowship League. He also served on the Kenesaw Rural Fire board and Wanda Township board, and was a member of the Kenesaw Senior Center.
Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Joyce Jameson of Upland and Janet Burr of Juniata; one son, Duane of Kenesaw; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters.
Memorials may be given to the family’s choice.
