Philip G. Holst
Former Hastings resident Philip G. Holst, 77, died Thursday, Sept. 25, 1997, at Nelson Good Samaritan Center in Nelson.
There were no services. His remains were cremated. Burial was in Arlington National Cemetery at Arlington, Va. Williams Funeral Home of Edgar was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Holst was born Jan. 18, 1920, to Philipp H. and Anna (Ritter) Holst in Edgar. He graduated from Davenport High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the USS Augusta. He was discharged in 1946. He moved to Chicago. He was employed by Common Wealth Edison until retiring in 1979. In 1980 he moved to Hastings.
Survivors are two sisters, Ruth Lang and Esther Jensen, both of Edgar.
William E. Pearcy

Former Mankato, Kan., resident William E. Pearcy, 74, of Silverdale, Wash., died Saturday, Sept. 27, 1997, at his home.
Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home Rill Chapel in Port Orchard, Wash.
Mr. Pearcy was born Oct. 15, 1922, in Mankato, Kan. He graduated from Belleville (Kan.) High School. On Nov. 24, 1942, he married Velma (last name unavailable) in Hastings. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1942-44. He was a machinist and toolmaker in civil services fro 29 years. He retired in 1990.
He was a member of the National Rifle Association.
Survivors are two sons, Kent of Bremerton, Wash., and Gregory of Poulsbo, Wash.; one daughter, Deborah Brown of Tenino, Wash.; one sister, Betty Hogan of Iowa Falls, Iowa; and six grandchildren.
David Norby

Hastings resident David Norby, 75, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 1997, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.
Memorial services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Zion Chapel on Bethphage Mission Campus at Axtell with the Rev. Bill Runaas officiating. His remains were cremated. Burial will be in Bethphage Mission Cemetery. Freeland-Layton Funeral Home chapel in Axtell is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Norby was born Sept. 28, 1922, to John and Agnes (Peterson) Norby in Sedro Wooley, Wash. He grew up in the Seattle, Wash., area. In 1957 he moved to Bethphage Mission in Axtell. He did handy work for many Axtell residents. In 1984 he moved to Good Samaritan Village in Hastings.
Survivor is one brother, Everett of Inavale.
He was preceded in death by one brother.
John 'Bill' Hultman

Former Heartwell resident John W. "Bill" Hultman, 81, of Aurora, Colo., died Monday, Sept. 29, 1997, at the Hospice of Metro Denver Care Center in Aurora.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Kearney with the Rev. Mike McDonald officiating. Graveside services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell with military rites provided by a North Platte veterans group. Visitation is 3-8:30 p.m. today at Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary in Kearney and prior to services Thursday at the church.
Mr. Hultman was born Feb. 17, 1916, to Ernest I. and Bentha (Nielson) Hultman in Kearney. He graduated from Kearney High School in 1934. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1941-47. On May 26, 1947, he married Kathleen "Kate" Adams in Kearney. He was a butcher at George's Market. Later he and his wife owned and operated the Heartwell Steakhouse in Heartwell for seven years. They then raised produce on their farm between Minden and Kearney. They moved to Aurora two years ago.
Survivors are his wife; two sons, Michael "Mike" of Aurora and John Jr. of Plattsmouth; two daughters, Kathleen "Kathy" McKenzie of Aurora and Pamela "Pam" Harris of LaVista; five sisters, Sina Knoll, Marguerite Erpelding and Dorothy Brown, all of Kearney, Anne Eckhoff of Sutherland and Ruth McDonald of Riverside, Calif.; one brother, Harold of Washington; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.
Memorials may be given to Good Samaritan Hospital Hospice in Kearney or the Prince of Peace Catholic Church.

Hastings resident Delpha May (Houston) Thomas, 79, died Monday, Sept. 29, 1997, at The Kensington.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Minden with the Rev. Donald Becker officiating. Graveside services are 9:30 a.m. MDT at Loveland Burial Park in Loveland, Colo., with Bill Bixby officiating. Visitation is 3-5 p.m. and 7-8 p.m. Thursday at Layton Funeral Home in Minden.
Mrs. Thomas was born May 7, 1918, to Walter E. and Minnie A. (Leech) Houston in Chase County. She graduated from Buckingham (Colo.) High School. She attended Colorado Teachers College in Greeley. She taught country school in Chase County. On March 21, 1942, she married Lee A. Thomas in St. Francis, Kan. They lived in Lamar. In 1974 they moved to Colorado Springs, Colo. In 1984 they moved to Loveland. Her husband died in 1988. In 1993 she moved to Kenesaw and in 1995 to The Kensington.
She was a member of World Wide Church of God.
Survivors are two sons, Walter of Pueblo, Colo., and Lester of Kenesaw; one daughter, Janette Kuehn of Heartwell; two brothers, Glen Houston of Imperial and Ben Houston of Longmont, Colo.; two sisters, Lourene "Tiny" Miller of Colorado Springs and Faye Rogers of Fort Morgan, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She also was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.
George D. Blevins

Edgar resident George Donald Blevins, 75, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 1997, at Veterans Administration Hospital in Lincoln.
Services are 10 a.m. Friday at Williams Funeral Home in Edgar with Harold Fox officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Edgar Cemetery.
Mr. Blevins was born March 14, 1922, to Andrew and Florence (Toliver) Blevins in Seward County. He moved with his family to Angus at the age of 3. He attended schools in Angus. He served the U.S. Army in England from 1942-45 during World War II. He was wounded on Omaha Beach during the Allied invasion of Europe June 6, 1944. He received a Purple Heart. He returned to Angus. In 1949 he moved to Edgar. He was a farm hand for many years.
He was a past member of the American Legion of Edgar and the VFW of Hastings.
He is survived by one sister, Irene Melvin of Nelson.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.
Lewis R. Shultz

Broken Bow resident Lewis Raymond Shultz, 82, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 1997, in Broken Bow.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at Govier Brothers Funeral Home chapel in Broken Bow. Burial will be in Merna Cemetery at Merna.
Survivors are one son; one daughter, Cloetta McAlevy of Holstein; one stepdaughter; one stepson; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Harvard resident Carl B. Unterseher, 88, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 1997, at Harvard Rest Haven in Harvard.
Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at Alberding-Wilson Funeral Home chapel in Harvard with the Rev. Dr. Hal Smith officiating. Burial will be in Sutton Cemetery at Sutton. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. until services Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Unterseher was born June 10, 1909, to Henry and Anna (Oberlander) Unterseher in Fillmore County. He graduated from Sutton High School in 1926. He attended Sweeney Mechanical School in Kansas City, Mo. He was employed by an auto shop in Sutton and was a machinist in the shipyards in Portland, Ore., for five years. He opened Carl's Mechanical Works in Harvard in 1947. On June 11, 1962, he married Inez D. Brenneman. He retired in 1996.
Survivors are his wife; and one sister, Marie Wisinger of Moses Lake, Wash.
He was preceded in death by one brother.

Robert J. Zimmerman

Hastings resident Robert J. "Zip" Zimmerman, 74, of No. 9 Bentwood Lane died from cancer Tuesday, Sept. 30, 1997, at his home.
Private family services and burial will be at a later date. His remains have been cremated. Butler-Volland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Zimmerman was born July 24, 1923, to Harold "Zim" and Irene (Cooper) Zimmerman in O'Neal. He moved with his family to Hastings at a young age. He attended Hastings schools. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He married Hope Elaine Owens. He worked at the Naval Ammunition Depot. He later worked at Hastings Regional Center for more than 40 years.
He was a member of Eagles No. 592.
Survivors are his wife; one daughter, Melinda Crossman of Lawrence, Kan.; one son, Mark of Boise, Idaho; one sister, Patricia Zimmerman of Hastings; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by one sister.
Memorials may be given to Mary Lanning Hospice Program.
William 'Bill' Dudden

Former Kenesaw resident William Fredrich "Bill" Dudden, 95, of Holyoke, Colo., died Sunday, Sept. 21, 1997, at his home.
Services were Sept. 26 at Zion Lutheran Church in Holyoke with the Rev. Gary Rahe officiating. Burial was in Holyoke Memorial Park. Schmidt-Baucke Mortuary of Holyoke was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Dudden was born Oct. 7, 1901, to Tiemann and Martha (Naggatz) Dudden near Kenesaw. He attended school in Adams County. On Aug. 5, 1931, he married Dorothy Meester in Kenesaw. They lived on different farms near Kenesaw. In 1938 they moved to Amherst, Colo. They later moved to a farm near Holyoke where they lived for 44 years.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Holyoke.
Survivors are his wife; four sons, Elmer of Golden, Colo., Darrel of Hillrose, Colo., Delmar of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Dale of Springfield, Mo.; one daughter, Vivian Bahler of Holyoke; two sisters, Margaret Hinz of Kenesaw and Helen Bostick of Dallas; 23 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be given to the Lutheran Hour or a charity of the donor's choice.

Rural Sutton resident Robert E. Lockling, 42, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 1997, in an automobile accident near Stuart.
Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Christian Church in Clay Center with the Rev. John Green officiating. Burial will be in Sutton Cemetery. Kohler Mortuary of Sutton is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Lockling was born July 21, 1955, to Kenneth and Bernice (Province) Lockling in Superior. He attended several schools in Nebraska including junior high and one year of high school in Wayne and three years of high school at Hastings Senior High School where he graduated in 1973. He attended Central Community College-Hastings for two years. On Dec. 2, 1977, he married Diane D. Kauk in Clay Center. He was a partner with his brother, Kenneth, in Pine Tree Construction.
He was an active member of Christian Church where he served as an elder and was a Bible school teacher.
Survivors are his wife and three sons, Dustin, Cody and Tre's; his father of Hastings; two sisters, Carolyn Nemitz of Salina, Kan., and Shirley Snell of Lexington; two brothers, Kenneth D. of Harvard and Steven of Tyler, Texas; two stepbrothers, Richard Allen Russell and Dennis Fuller; and his grandmother, Laura Province of Pueblo, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his mother, paternal grandparents and maternal grandfather.

Mr. Hock was born Nov. 6, 1949, to Raymond B. and Petrea (Rasmussen) Hock in Hastings. He grew up in Omaha. He graduated from Omaha Benson High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1968-71. He returned to Hastings. On April 21, 1972, he married Sharon A. Mazour. He did maintenance at Hastings Medical Park.
He was a member of Berean Bible Church.
Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Jennifer Hock and Cynthia Hock, both of Hastings; his mother, Pat Pittz of Harvard; two sisters, Deloris Doyen and Shirley Frese, both of Hastings; three brothers, Charles and John, both of Hastings, and Larry of Hays, Kan.; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father.

Mrs. Mahloch was born April 5, 1915, to Michael and Rose (Powers) Condon in Anselmo. She moved to Hastings from Anselmo. On June 20, 1965, she married Arnold H. Mahloch. They moved to Concord, Calif. In 1992 they returned to Hastings. She was a homemaker.
She was a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church.
Survivors are her husband; two sons, William Spooner Sr. of Hastings and Robert Spooner of Garden Grove, Calif.; one daughter, Helen Spooner of Hastings; one stepdaughter, Charleen Johnson of Homeland, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Judy Kearney; one brother and one sister.

Miss Swanstrom was born March 19, 1903, to Emil and Ida (Carlson) Swanstrom in Nora. She was a nurse for Dr. Ingram in Nelson for 33 years. In 1991 she moved to Hastings.
She was a member of GSV All Saints Chapel and Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by one brother, Arthur Swanstrom of Hastings.
She was preceded in death by four sisters and four brothers.

Clinton C. Druecker

Former Ayr resident Clinton C. Druecker, 82, of Lancaster, Pa., died Saturday, Sept. 27, 1997, at Lancaster General Hospital after a short illness.
Services were Wednesday at Christ United Methodist Church in Lancaster. Burial was in Salunga Mennonite Cemetery at Salunga, Pa. Kearney A. Snyder Funeral Home of Lancaster was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Druecker was born Feb. 12, 1915, to Ernest and Amanda (Brown) Druecker in Ayr. On Aug. 17, 1938, he married Thelma Hiestand. He worked in the dairy business for 40 years. In 1977 he retired from Graybill's Dairy in Lancaster.
He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church where he served on several committees. He sang in the choir for 25 years.
Survivors are his wife; one daughter, Joyce Ritz of Lancaster; one son, James of Media, Pa.; two sisters, Delma Plein and Velma Copple, both of Hastings; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Marie A. Gimeson

Former Superior resident Marie A. Gimeson, 62, of Cheyenne, Wyo., died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 1997, at Grand Junction, Colo., as a result of a car accident.
Services are 2 p.m. Monday at the Williams Funeral Home Chapel in Superior. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery at Smith Center, Kan.
Mrs. Gimeson was born April 9, 1935, in Smith Center, Kan., to Lloyd and Genevieve Grabast. She attended school in Franklin. On Sept. 12, 1952, she married Junior Hamilton. He died in November 1963. On April 7, 1967, she married Byron "Russ" Gimeson at the Nazarene Church in Superior.
Mrs. Gimeson was baptized Nov. 8, 1964, at Riverton and attended the Assembly of God Church there.
Survivors are her husband; two daughters, Linda Brazeale and Cheri Leach, both of Chappell; three sons, Tom Hamilton of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Bill Hamilton and Dave Hamilton, both of Superior; two sisters, Jean Thompson of Concordia, Kan., and Ferne Butler of Superior; two brothers, Don Grabast of Belleville, Kan., and Doug Grabast of Superior; and 12 grandchildren.

Red Cloud resident Elsie C. (Mitchell) Gordon, 96, died Thursday, Oct. 2, 1997, at Heritage Care Center in Red Cloud.
Graveside services are 10 a.m. Monday at Webb Hill Cemetery south of Red Cloud with the Rev. Mike Lehr officiating. Simonson-Williams Funeral Home of Red Cloud is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Gordon was born Nov. 24, 1900, to William W. and Eva I. (Meager) Mitchell in Pleasantville, Pa. She moved with her family to Kansas as a young girl. On Nov. 24, 1923, she married Fredrick Henry Gordon in Fredonia, Kan. They lived in Independence, Kan., before moving to Tulsa, Okla. In 1968 they moved to El Paso, Texas. Her husband died Dec. 18, 1978. In 1986 she moved to Red Cloud.
Survivors are one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by one son, Ralph.

Mrs. Marson was born May 6, 1899, to Nickolaus and Katherine (Dondlinger) Reinsch on a farm in Momence Township northwest of Shickley. She married Peter Marson. He preceded her in death.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. She was past president of World War I American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors are one brother, Lawrence Erthum of Grant; and two sisters, Loretta Gaudreault of Gothenburg and Louise Churchill of Holdrege.
She also was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
Harold R. Black Jr.

Hastings resident Harold R. Black Jr., 54, of 308 Kent St. died Friday, Oct. 3, 1997, at his home.
Services are 2 p.m. Monday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Steve Markle officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens north of Hastings.
Mr. Black was born April 6, 1943, to Harold and Emma (Rutt) Black in Hastings. He graduated from Hastings Senior High School in 1961. He worked for Braach Thompson from 1962-77. In 1978 he began working for Hastings Utilities. He was employed as dispatch operator at his time of death. On Aug. 22, 1992, he married Susan Adler.
Survivors are his wife; two stepsons, Dan Lewis and Darrin Lewis, both of Hastings; one stepdaughter, Stacey Halbmaier of Trumbull; and three stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mrs. Finnigsmier was born Jan. 10, 1907, to August and Emma (Frerichs) Potratz in Hastings. She graduated from the eighth grade at St. Pauls Parochial School. On Feb. 21, 1929, she married Walter Finnigsmier at St. Pauls Lutheran Church parsonage. He died Oct. 3, 1975. She was a cook at Kenesaw School for four years.
She was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church and its quilters' group.
Survivors are two daughters, Bernice Petersen and Joyce Clark, both of Kenesaw; one son, Roger of Grand Island; two sisters, Marie Lange of Twin Falls, Idaho, and Laura Witt of Fort Collins, Colo.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by one son, Russell; five brothers, four sisters, and three grandchildren.

Survivors are two sons; three daughters, including Marie Walters of Minden; one half brother; 21 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Megrue-Price Funeral Home chapel in Superior with the Rev. Mark Imel officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery at Mankato, Kan. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. until services Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Montgomery was born July 20, 1905, to Richard James and Zenetta Margaret (Leffingwell) Montgomery in Richland Township in Jewell County near Mankato, Kan. He was raised on the farm in Richland Township where he lived for 84 years. He attended Pavonia School in Jewell County. On Oct. 7, 1929, he married Alean Knight. She died Nov. 20, 1996. He was a farmer and auctioneer. He was an auctioneer from 1941-1993. He was the first of three generations of auctioneers. During the 1950s and 1960s he traveled to area communities and country schools with a band to play his banjo and call square dances. In later years he and his wife wintered in Texas.
Survivors are two sons, Richard "Slim" of Guide Rock and M.E. "Andy" of Superior; two daughters, Maxine Hall of Superior and Phyllis Doyle of Webber, Kan.; 13 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
Robert J. Werner

Hebron resident Robert J. Werner, 73, died Friday, Oct. 3, 1997, in Hebron.
Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Grace Lutheran Church in Hebron with the Rev. Bruce W. Berggren officiating. Burial will be in Hebron City Cemetery at Hebron. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today and 9-11 a.m. Tuesday at Price Funeral Home in Hebron and one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church.
Mr. Werner was born Aug. 6, 1924, to John and Margaret (Grosshans) Werner in Deshler. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Signal Corps. He worked in apartment construction and maintenance, farming and implement repair.
Survivors are his wife, K. Delores; two sons, Bill of Morgan Hill, Calif., and John of Seward; one sister, Lucile Damm of Lincoln; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Patricia Werner Michels: one brother and three sisters.

Hastings resident Thelma L. (Wise) Brown, 97, died Saturday, Oct. 4, 1997, at Good Samaritan Village Villa Grace.
Memorial services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at GSV All Saints Chapel with the Rev. Bill Liddell officiating. Private family burial will be at a later date at Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell. Butler-Volland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Brown was born Nov. 13, 1899, to Fred and Clara (Brant) Wise in Stuart. In 1944 she married L.H. Brown from Elkhorn. He died in 1986. She was a merchandise buyer and designer for Emporium World in Omaha for 14 years. They lived in and near Denison, Iowa, later moving to Mesa, Ariz. In 1971 they moved to Hastings.
She was past president of World War I Auxiliary and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a partner of the 8/40 Auxiliary, member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was director and organizer of the Golden Age Entertainers. She also helped start the Bargain Store at GSV.
Survivors are one stepdaughter, Maureen Greenwell of Omaha; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by one stepdaughter, Marge Reimer.
Memorials may be given to GSV Senior Center.

Hastings resident J. Scott Buck, 37, of 2507 W. Eighth St. died Saturday, Oct. 4, 1997, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Brand-Wilson Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Harold Stromer officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery. Visitation is noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Buck was born Oct. 9, 1959, to John and Nola (Cavender) Buck in York. He was a self-employed construction worker.
Survivors are one daughter, Asia Buck of Hastings; two sons, Ian and Dustin Buck of Hastings; his parents, of Hastings; two brothers, Kerry and Craig, both of Hastings; and his grandmother, Lila Cavender of Hastings.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather and paternal grandparents.
Memorials may be given to the family.
Arthur E. Schukei

Kenesaw resident Arthur E. Schukei, 78, died Saturday, Oct. 4, 1997, at his home.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Wanda Zion Lutheran Church near Holstein with the Rev. Gregory Brown officiating. Burial will be in Wanda Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Jackson-Wilson Funeral Home in Kenesaw.
Mr. Schukei was born Oct. 20, 1918, to Herman and Emma (Uden) Schukei in Kenesaw. He attended Wanda Zion Parochial School for eight years. On Aug. 23, 1942, he married Verona Marie Hagels in Davenport. He farmed in Adams County retiring in 1983.
He was a member of Wanda Zion Lutheran Church.
Survivors are his wife; one daughter, Sharon Schukei of Gibbon; one son, Darrell of Holstein; two sisters, Lorena Werner of Yuma, Ariz., and Marilyn Nienhueser of Juniata; one brother, Wesley of Kenesaw; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Dean.
Emanuel J. Ganakis

Hastings resident Dr. Emanuel John Ganakis, 65, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 1997, in Minneapolis, Minn., from medical complications.
Services are Saturday at Greek Orthodox Cemetery chapel in San Francisco, Calif. Burial will be in Greek Orthodox Cemetery. California Funeral Services of San Francisco is in charge of arrangements.
Dr. Ganakis was born July 17, 1932, to John George and Katherine (Kostakis) Ganakis in Hopewell, Va. He grew up in Hopewell. He graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute. He served in the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Germany. He received his doctorate of medicine from the University of Innsbrook in Austria. In 1964 he returned to America. He worked in private practice and various mental health and chemical dependency programs in Utah and California before moving to Hastings. He was a staff psychiatrist at Hastings Regional Center.
Survivors are his wife, Judith; one daughter, Katherine Antigone of Iowa City, Iowa; two sons, John Gregory of Santa Barbara, Calif., and John Michele of Bosnia; and three sisters, Nonie Giusti and Mary Sakkaris, both of San Francisco, and Nancy Vidalakis of Seattle, Wash.
He was preceded in death by one sister.
Eleanor L. Whitney

Former Hastings resident Eleanor L. (Gentert) Whitney, 71, of McAlester, Okla., died Thursday, Oct. 2, 1997, in McAlester.
Services were Saturday at Bishop Funeral Home chapel in McAlester. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery at McAlester.
Mrs. Whitney was born May 7, 1926, to Raymond and Maude Gentert in Holstein. On June 30, 1949, she married Myron Whitney in Hastings. In 1965 they moved to McAlester. Her husband preceded her in death.
Survivors are one son, Steven of Krebs, Okla.; her mother of Rock Port, Mo.; three sisters, Mae Petersen of Holstein, Lois Whitney of Hastings and Rachel Solomon of Simi Valley, Calif; one brother, Raymond Gentert of Brownville; and one grandchild.
She also was preceded in death by her father and one sister.

Former Hastings resident Thelma I. (Wookey) Pounds, 88, of Greeley, Colo., died Saturday, Oct. 4, 1997, at Bonell Good Samaritan Center in Greeley.
Memorial graveside services are 10 a.m. Friday at Parkview Cemetery in Hastings with the Rev. Bill Pounds officiating. Brand-Wilson Funeral Home of Hastings is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Pounds was born Aug. 4, 1909, to Henry and Arabella (Hardy) Wookey in Blessing, Texas. She graduated from Alma High School and attended Hastings Business College. In 1927 she married Elton C. Pounds in Smith Center, Kan. He died in 1985. She was a bookkeeper at J.M. McDonald's in Hastings for many years. She moved to Greeley four years a ago.
She was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Pro-Cathedral and its Altar Guild. She was active in Episcopalian women's groups, Order of the Eastern Star and American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors are two sons, Bill of Denver and Allen of Reno, Nev.; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters.

Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hastings with the Rev. Harold D. Stromer officiating. Graveside services are 2 p.m. at Davenport Cemetery in Davenport. Butler-Volland Funeral Home of Hastings is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Doering was born July 28, 1914, to Tamme P. and Martha E. (Radke) Trauernicht in Byron. She grew up near Yuma, Colo. On July 28, 1936, she married Adolph Doering in Belleville, Kan. They lived in Ellensburg, Wash. In 1948 they moved to Davenport. She was a librarian at the Davenport Public Library for many years. Her husband died in 1982. In 1990 she moved to Hastings.
She was a member of First St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hastings.
Survivors are one daughter, Leanne Rutherford of Hastings; two sisters, Dorothy Harms of Loveland, Colo., and Blanche Marquart of Davenport; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by one daughter, Darlene Graves; two infant brothers and one great-grandchild.
Memorials may be given to the family's choice.

Robert C. Meyer

Former Hastings resident Robert C. Meyer, 73, of Hagerstown, Ind., died Sunday, Oct. 5, 1997, at his home after an extended illness.
Rosary is 8 p.m. Wednesday at Culberson Funeral Home chapel in Hagerstown. Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Church at Cambridge City, Ind., with the Rev. John H. Luerman officiating. Burial will be in Mooreland Cemetery at Mooreland, Ind., with military rites provided by VFW Post No. 1282.
Mr. Meyer was born Aug. 25, 1924, to Joseph F. and Mary (Pelzel) Meyer in Cambridge City. He graduated from Cambridge City High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He lived in New Castle, Ind., before moving to the Hagerstown area in 1959. He was a supervisor and engineer for Dana Corp. for 40 years. He retired in 1982. After retiring he served as a consultant for Dana. He lived in Hastings in 1984 and 1985 and was instrumental in establishing the Hastings division plant.
He was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Perfect Circle 25-Year Club and American Legion Lawrence H. Bertsch Post No. 169 of Cambridge City. He was a life member of both the VFW Post 1282 of New Castle and DAV Chapter IN25 of Cincinnati, Ohio.
Survivors are his wife, Janet; two sons, Robert B. of Hagerstown and Robbie W. of Summitville, Ind.; two daughters, Anna Brown of Hagerstown and Janelle Trausch of Roseland; two brothers, Joseph M. of Milton, Ind., and Charles V. of Cambridge City; two sisters, Irene Davis of New Castle and Marlene Brown of Milton; and 12 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, two sisters and two grandchildren.

Rural Lebanon, Kan., resident Marilyn Ruth (Kattenberg) Herman, 60, died Monday, Oct. 6, 1997, at her home.
Graveside services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Oak Creek Cemetery south of Lebanon with the Rev. Steve Slate officiating. There will be no visitation. Simmons Mortuary of Smith Center, Kan., is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Herman was born May 12, 1937, to Richard and Olive (Burns) Kattenberg in Portis, Kan. On Aug. 28, 1955, she married John Clayton Herman at Oak Creek Christian Church. They moved to Lebanon from Ames, Iowa, five years ago. She was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Christian Church in Fayettville, Ark.
Survivors are her husband; and one daughter, Lisa Miles of Omaha, Ark.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorials may be given to Smith County Area Hospice in Smith Center.
