Clara Jensen
Former Minden resident Clara (Reichert) Jensen, 96, died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 1995, at St. John's Good Samaritan Center in Kearney.
Graveside services are 10 a.m. Saturday at Minden Cemetery with the Rev. Terry Palmer officiating. The remains were cremated. Layton Funeral Home of Minden is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Jensen was born Jan. 8, 1899, to Carl and Marie (Reis) Reichert in Holstein. On April 25, 1924, she married Herman Jensen. They farmed northwest of Minden. Her husband died in 1974.
Survivors are one brother, William Reichert of San Pedro, Calif.; one sister, Marie Schwenka of Yuma, Ariz.; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by one son.
Velma Schmidt
Riverton resident Velma (Jackson) Schmidt, 79, died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 1995, at Franklin County Hospital in Franklin.
Services are 2:30 p.m. Friday at Simonson-Williams Funeral Home chapel in Red Cloud with the Rev. Frank Alexander officiating. Burial will be in Riverton Cemetery.
Mrs. Schmidt was born March 11, 1916, to George and Lena (Schriner) Jackson in Franklin County. She attended rural schools in the Riverton area. She worked in a telephone office in Womer, Kan. On Oct. 31, 1942, she married Guy Edward Schmidt. They farmed in the Riverton and Inavale areas. Her husband died Nov. 18, 1982.
Survivors are one son, Ed of Red Cloud; two sisters, Dorothy Schmidt of Riverton and Lois Kingsbury of Smith Center, Kan.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Caroline A. 'Carrie' Skalka
Former Hastings resident Caroline A. "Carrie" (Herbeck) Skalka, 95, died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 1995, at Harvard Rest Haven in Harvard.
Rosary is 10 a.m. and services 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Hastings with the Rev. John McCabe officiating. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. at St. Martin's (Loucky) Cemetery west of Deweese. Visitation is 5-9 p.m. today and 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Brand-Wilson Funeral Home in Hastings.
Mrs. Skalka was born May 30, 1900, to August and Mary (Havel) Herbeck on a farm south of Spring Ranch. She attended Prairie Rose School near Spring Ranch. On May 11, 1920, she married Emil Skalka at St. Martin's (Loucky) Church west of Deweese. They farmed in the Spring Ranch area for many years. She moved to Harvard Rest Haven in 1987. Her husband died Aug. 24, 1989.
She was a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church and its Altar Society.
Survivors are two daughters, Velma Hajny of Hastings and Evelyn Kimminau of Lincoln; one sister, Rose Norton of Deweese; one brother, Adolph Kalvoda of Lawrence; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.
Memorials may be given to the donor's choice.
Eveline H. Tumbleson
Hastings resident Eveline H. (Veit) Tumbleson, 67, of 513 Lane E died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 1995, at Good Samaritan Village Perkins Pavilion.
Memorial services are 10 a.m. Saturday at Brand-Wilson Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Donald Boeschen officiating. The remains will be cremated. Burial will be private.
Mrs. Tumbleson was born March 3, 1928, to Friedrich and Frida (Retz) Veit in Stuttgart, Germany. On Oct. 1, 1956, she married Neale A. Tumbleson at Fort Dix, N.J. They lived in Okinawa, France and Germany before settling in Denver following her husband's retirement from the U.S. Army. In 1979, they moved to Hastings. She was a cook for prisoners at the Adams County Jail for 13 years. She retired in August because of ill health.
She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church.

C. Marvin Gerdes
Former Hastings resident C. Marvin Gerdes, 63, of Evergreen, Colo., died Saturday, Nov. 11, 1995, at Lutheran Hospital in Denver.
Memorial services were Tuesday at Evergreen Elks Lodge in Evergreen.
Mr. Gerdes was born May 30, 1932, to George and Clara (Smith) Gerdes in Edgar. On Aug. 9, 1959, he married DeEtte Brookhart in Hastings. They lived in Hastings, moving to Evergreen in 1968. He worked in construction and manufacturing sales.
He was a member of United Methodist Church and the Elks Lodge, both in Evergreen.
Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Sandy Elbell of LaSalle, Colo., and Julie Gerdes of Golden, Colo.; one sister, Golda Nutzman of Grand Island; and two grandchildren.
Memorials may be given to the family.
Verdus M. Hedlund
Hastings resident Verdus M. Hedlund, 62, of 323 S. Lexington Ave. died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 1995, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.
Rosary is 7:30 p.m. today at Butler-Volland Funeral Home chapel. Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael's Catholic Church with the Rev. David F. Bourek officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery.
Mr. Hedlund was born Aug. 19, 1933, to Arthur and Lucy (Smith) Hedlund in Gregory, S.D. He attended school in Gregory. In 1952 he moved to Hastings and worked at the Naval Ammunition Depot. On Oct. 30, 1954, he married Sodona Boesch in Hastings. In 1956 they moved to Omaha where he worked for Philco Corporation. They returned to Hastings in 1957 and he worked for Weyerhauser Company. In 1967 he went to work for Ag Tronics. He later went to work for Coleman Powermate in Kearney. He retired in August after 19 years of service. He and his wife raised nieces and nephews, Jerry Tillemans and Linda Frerichs, both of Hastings, William Tillemans of Charleston, S.C., Helen Ostdiek of Mankato, Kan., and Polly Hahne of Garden City, Kan.
He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church.
Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Debra Hulquist of Dallas and Karen Jones of Dumfries, Va.; two sons, Alan and Dan, both of Hastings; two sisters, Florence Nordby of Hastings and Verla Bruns of Gregory; and 25 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Sandra; and one brother.

Margaret W. Lichty
Former Carleton resident Margaret W. Lichty, 78, of Fairmont died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 1995, in Fairmont.
Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Bethel Church of the Brethen in Carleton with the Rev. Jim Hubble officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery at Carleton. Visitation is at Farmer and Son Funeral Home in Geneva.
Mrs. Lichty married Dean J. Lichty, who preceded her in death.
Survivors are one son, Ronald W. of Carleton; one daughter, Dee Ann Wolfe of Denver; one brother, Jerry Wood of Hawarden, Iowa; one sister, Gwen L. Gant of San Francisco, Calif.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Melvin W. 'Bus' Busboom
Hastings resident Melvin W. "Bus" Busboom, 77, of 831 N. Kansas Ave. died Friday, Nov. 17, 1995, at his home.
Forty and Eight memorial services are 7 p.m. and rosary is 7:30 p.m., both Monday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home chapel. Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church with the Rev. John J. McCabe officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Parkview Cemetery.
Mr. Busboom was born July 6, 1918, to Henry J. and Katherine (Sime) Busboom in Glenvil. He served in the U.S. Army from 1940-1966. He was a 1st Sgt. E8. On Feb. 20, 1962, he married Dolores Colombe in Hastings. He was the Adams County Veterans Service Officer for 20 years. He retired in 1983.
He was a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council No. 1123, Hastings Catholic Activities Association, Nebraskaland Treasure Hunters and 134th Infantry Division Association of which he was historian. He was a life member of the American Legion Post No. 11 of which he was past commander, Mount Suribachi VFW Post No. 1346 and Elks Lodge No. 159. He also was past state president of the Nebraska Veterans Service Officers Association, past president of Travelers Protective Association, Grande Chef De Gare passe Grande Du Nebraska and Chef de Gare passe Voiture No. 675.
Survivors are his wife; three daughters, Debra Colombe of Oklahoma City, Okla., Teresa Kaiser of Kearney and Jean Busboom-Piercy of Omaha; two sons, Robin Colombe of Denver and Greg Colombe of Lincoln; two sisters, Mildred Kohl of Hastings and Betty Kohl of Ogallala; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister.
Memorials may be given to St. Cecilia's Catholic Church Renovation Fund.

RosaLee L. Sanders
Hastings resident RosaLee L. Sanders, 94, of Good Samaritan Village Villa Grace died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 1995, at Villa Grace.
Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Brand-Wilson Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Dr. Joe Scahill officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery. Visitation is noon to 9 p.m. Sunday and 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday.
Mrs. Sanders was born May 5, 1901, to David and Mildred (Reinier) Hutton in Ottowa, Kan. In 1920 she married LeRoy Sanders in Haswell, Colo. He died in 1980. She has lived in Hastings since 1927, when she moved here from Hotchkiss, Colo. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Past Presidents of the American Legion Auxiliary, Railroad Trainman's Auxiliary, Eastern Star Acacia Chapter, Woman's Relief Corps and Knights of Pythias.
Survivors are one daughter, EvaJean Flemming of Sacramento, Calif.; one son, Neil D. Sanders of MaryEster, Fla.; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.
Memorials may be given to the American Legion Auxiliary or Eastern Star.
Rachel Lieb
Sutton resident Rachel (Griess) Lieb, 59, died Thursday, Nov. 16, 1995, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.
Services are 10 a.m. Monday at Hope Reformed Church in Sutton with the Rev. Howard Hart officiating. Burial will be in Sutton Cemetery. Kohler Mortuary of Sutton is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Lieb was born Nov. 16, 1936, to Harold J. and Elsie (Griess) Griess near Sutton. She was baptized and confirmed in the Reformed faith. She attended District 8 rural school in Clay County. On Oct. 2, 1959, she married Christian "Chris" Lieb in Geneva. They lived in Sutton most of their married life, except for a short time when they lived in Kansas. She was a homemaker and mother.
She was a member of Hope Reformed Church.
Survivors are her husband; two daughters, Gina Ochsner of Topeka, Kan., and Arlene Richards of Geneva; her parents; two sisters, Tillie Huber of Sutton and Esther Osborne of Grand Island; two brothers, Ewald H. Griess and Kenneth H. Griess, both of Sutton; and four grandchildren.
Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or Sutton Christian School.
Carl E. 'Blackie' Oxner
Hastings resident Carl E. "Blackie" Oxner, 76, of 1239 McDonald Ave. died Thursday, Nov. 16, 1995, at Bryan Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.
Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church with the Rev. Richard Kothe officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Ceme-tery. Visitation is 4-9 p.m. Saturday, noon to 9 p.m. Sunday and 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Brand-Wilson Funeral Home in Hastings.
Mr. Oxner was born Dec. 16, 1918, to Edward Mitchell and Sarah Marie (Stout) Oxner in Palmer. He was baptized in 1919 in Archer and attended school there. On June 8, 1962, he married Arlene Johnson, who died Feb. 18, 1979. He was previously married to Phyllis Painter and Helen Buck. He lived in Grand Island and Lincoln, and worked for Redman Industries as a truck driver in Grand Island until retiring in 1979. He lived in Hastings the last 34 years.
Survivors are six daughters, Madeline McCray of Doniphan, Carla Naughton of Utica, Joyce Haase and Sherry Allen, both of Grand Island, Mona Brown and Tanya Aflague, both of Hastings; four sons, Charles of Omaha, Aaron of Bertrand and Kevin and David, both of Sioux Falls, S.D.; one sister, Betty Suhr of Grand Island; 33 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

Blue Hill resident Frederick H. Stevens, 76, died Thursday, Nov. 16, 1995, at Community Care of Blue Hill.
Thelma M. Gillilan
Hastings resident Thelma M. (Martens) Gillilan, 82, of 529 Lane H died Friday, Nov. 17, 1995, at Good Samaritan Village Perkins Pavilion.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Glenvil with the Rev. Timothy Wiggins officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. at Hardy Cemetery at Hardy. Visitation is 2-9 p.m. Sunday and 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Brand-Wilson Funeral Home in Hastings.
Mrs. Gillilan was born Feb. 6, 1913, to Einar and Senna (Petersen) Martens on a farm near Oak. On Oct. 14, 1937, she married Marion Gillilan in Benedict. They lived in Hardy. She worked at Bixby's Grocery in Hardy and Felt's Grocery in Superior. In 1964 they moved to Hastings and then to Glenvil in 1968. They returned to Hastings in 1981.
She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America and Double Dozen Extension Club, all of Glenvil. She was active in Girl Scouts and civic affairs.
Survivors are her husband; and one daughter, Cheryl Hipple of Bassett.
She was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.
Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Stanley W. Bond
Former Hastings resident Stanley W. Bond, 55, of Ogallala died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 1995, at his home.
Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at Brand-Wilson Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Richard Kothe officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery. Visitation is 5-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Mr. Bond was born May 23, 1940, to Raymond G. and Violet A. (Sydow) Bond in Wadena, Minn. He graduated from Harvard High School in 1958. On July 30, 1941, he married Donna Hurst in Sutton. He later married Joyce Whitt.
Survivors are two daughters, Christy Robinson of Lincoln and Kimberly Bond Randolph of Hastings; one stepson, Todd Kehm of Grand Island; one stepdaughter, Tami Meier of Grand Island; his father, of Hastings; two brothers, Larry of Hastings and Gerald of Milford; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother.

Donald A. Hansen
Minden resident Donald A. Hansen, 66, died Tuesday, Oct. 31, 1995, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethany Lutheran Church in Minden with the Rev. Ed Treat officiating. Burial will be in Minden Cemetery. Visitation is 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Friday at Layton Funeral Home in Minden.
Mr. Hansen was born Dec. 1, 1928, to Alfred and Oma (Murr) Hansen in Kearney County. He grew up in the Newark area. He graduated from Kearney High School in 1946. He served in the U.S. Army. On Sept. 13, 1958, he married Genene Classen. They farmed in the Newark and Minden areas.
He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, American Legion Post No. 94 and Rotary Club, all in Minden, and the Elks Club in Kearney.
Survivors are his wife; two sons, Stephen of Minden and Michael of Kearney; one daughter, Michelle Pieper of Minden; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Marilyn Hupf
Hastings resident Marilyn Hupf, 62, died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 1995, at Bryan Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.
Virginia O'Meara
Kearney resident Virginia R. O'Meara, 73, died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 1995 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services were Saturday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Eddyville. Burial was in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary of Kearney was in charge of arrangements.
Survivors are five sons; eight daughters, including Connie Banks of Hastings; one brother; four sisters; 25 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be given to Good Samaritan Hospital Hospice Fund or American Cancer Association's Breast Cancer Research Fund.
Herman Mullen
Hastings resident Herman Mullen, 67, of 1522 W. Fifth St. died Saturday, Nov. 18, 1995, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Dr. Joe Scahill officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery.
Mr. Mullen was born Jan. 4, 1928, to Hunter Sr. and Helen Mullen in Hastings. He attended Hastings schools. He worked at Modern Linen Supply until moving to California. In 1957, he moved to Oakland, Calif., where he was a veterinarian's assistant at the Foothills Animal Hospital. He retired from an Oakland cannery in 1990. He married Clair Dalton of Oakland. In 1991 he returned to Hastings and lived in Good Samaritan Village. He operated Mullen's Bar-B-Que and Catering Service.
Survivors are his wife of Oakland; two daughters, Regina Mullen and Nicole Mullen, both of Oakland; one son, Herman Jr. of Oakland; five sisters, Helen Mullen of Philadelphia, Faye Mullen of Hastings; Marceline Armstrong of Maywood, Ill., Ada Robinson of Lincoln and Eleanor Shanks of Chicago; and four brothers, Hunter of Hastings, Rodney and Charles, both of Omaha, and Simuel of Chicago.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.
