Harriet M. Manthei
Sutton resident Harriet Marie (Throne) Manthei, 55, died Saturday, Dec. 9, 1995, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.
Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Federated Church in Sutton with the Rev. Rod Dunkerson officiating. The remains will be cremated. Private burial will be in Sutton Cemetery. Kohler Mortuary of Sutton is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Manthei was born April 29, 1940, to George Andrew and Bernadine Irene (McEwen) Throne near Salina, Kan. She attended rural school near Hebron and graduated from Hebron High School in 1958. On Jan. 13, 1969, she married Dwain V. Manthei in Belleville, Kan. She was a homemaker and also worked at restaurants most of her life. She worked at the Skyliner in Sutton for many years and the Bar-H in Grafton. She recently ran the concession at the Sutton Sale Barn.
Survivors are her husband; two daughters, Carman Ulmer and Ginny Casper, both of Sutton; sons, Bill Manthei of Sutton, Andrew Leinen of Omaha, Eric Leinen of Crescent, Iowa, and Karl Leinen of Council Bluffs, Iowa; one sister, Loretta Gonzalez of Miami; one brother, George Throne Jr. of Erie, Pa.; five stepsisters, Barbara Connolly of Chicora, Pa., Carol York of Great Cacapon, W. Va., Janice Ice of Slippery Rock, Pa., Anita Amorelli of Patterson, N.J., and Cynthia Ehrenfelt of Garden City, Kan.; two stepbrothers, Ronnie Throne and Jim Kelley, both of Goodland, Kan.; and eight grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one half-sister, Tammy, and two half-brothers, Bill and David.
Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.
Charles R. Van Galder
Kenesaw resident Charles R. Van Galder, 90, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 1995, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.
Services are Friday at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Comdenton, Mo., with the Rev. John Davis officiating. Burial will be in Dale Blair Memorial cemetery in Comdenton. Visitation is 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Jackson-Wilson Funeral Home in Kenesaw. The family will be present from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday.
Mr. Van Galder was born July 8, 1905, to Charles Ralph and Iola (Crotzenberg) Van Galder in LaPrairie, Wis. On Feb. 22, 1921, he married Gertrude V. Amandson at Central Lutheran Church in Wisconsin. They lived in Jamesville, Wis., for 30 years and Minneapolis, Minn., for 20 years before moving to Comdenton in 1969. He was a field engineer for Behr Manning-Norton until retiring. His wife died May 14, 1987. In 1992 he moved to Nebraska. He moved to Kenesaw in 1993.
He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Comdenton.
Survivors are two daughters, Gretchen Junkans of Juniata and Suzanne Hatlestad of Kansas City, Kan.; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by one brother, one sister; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Memorials may be given to the family.
Victoria H. Lunstra
Hastings resident Victoria H. (Hughes) Lunstra, 49, of 850 N. Burlington Ave. died Sunday, Dec. 10, 1995, at her home.
Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Joe Scahill and the Revs. Ted Uhlig and Jerry Heydenberk officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery. Visitation is 5-9 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday and 9 a.m. to noon Thursday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home.
Mrs. Lunstra was born Nov. 28, 1946, to Norman and Mildred (Hayes) Hughes in Wilmington, Del. She graduated from Pierre S. duPont High School in Wilmington in 1964. On Oct. 5, 1968, she married Donald D. Lunstra. She graduated from Petersburg General Hospital School of Nursing in Petersburg, Va., in 1969. She was a registered nurse at Delaware Medical Center in Wilmington in 1969 and Home Hospital in Lafayette, Ind., from 1970-74. She attended Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind., from 1972-73. In 1974, they moved to Clay Center and in 1980 to Hastings. She was a registered nurse at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital for 17 years.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women Group 2, YWCA, Symphony Guild, American Nurses Association and National League of Nursing.
Survivors are her husband; two sons, Dustin R. and Christopher, both of Hastings; her parents of Ocean City, N.J.; and one grandchild.
Memorials may be given to Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital Nursing Scholarship Fund.
Alta V. Meester
Former rural Glenvil resident Alta V. (Gribbins) Meester, 67, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 1995, at Good Samaritan Village Villa Grace in Hastings.
Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home chapel in Hastings with the Rev. W.C. Westman officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Visitation is 5-9 p.m. Tuesday.
Mrs. Meester was born Oct. 18, 1928, to Norman and Lily May (Harmon) Gribbins in Bourbon, Ill. On March 2, 1978, she married Marvin Meester. They lived in Hastings until moving to Pauline five years ago.
Survivors are her husband; one son, Bobby Blackwell of Riverton, Ill.; four sisters, Virginia Raines of Mount Pleasant, Iowa, Gladys Surrath of Springfield, Ill., Aline Lacy of California and Elizabeth Lape of Danville, Ill.; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
Richard E. Graham

Hastings resident Richard E. Graham, 75, of 2213 W. Eighth St. died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 1995, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.

Carl E. Burnham
Former Hastings resident Carl E. Burnham, 81, of Elkhart, Ind., died Saturday, Nov. 25, 1995, at Meridian Nursing Center-Eastlake in Elkhart following a brief illness.
There were no services. The remains were cremated. Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home of Elkhart was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Burnham was born Oct. 5, 1914, to Clarence and Leona (Ballard) Burnham in Hastings. On Feb. 18, 1937, he married Audrey M. Corwin in Hastings. He worked at Crone Optical in Hastings for several years. In 1949 he moved to Elkhart where he worked for White-Haines Optical Co. until retiring. His wife died Oct. 22, 1991.
Survivors are four daughters, Suzanne Dalton and Cindy Hooley, both of Elkhart, Linda Hodges of Clarkston, Mich., and Karleen Fedell of Hughes Springs, Texas; five brothers, Fred of Sacramento, Calif., Paul of Golden, Colo., Bill and Chuck, both of Hastings, and Ron of Gordon; three sisters, Katherine Perkins and Delores Marquardt, both of Hastings, and Dorothy Ennis of California; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by two daughters, Sandra and Cheryl; two brothers and two sisters.
Memorials may be given to United Cancer Service of Elkhart County.
Donald R. Parr
Rural Juniata resident Donald R. Parr, 51, died Monday, Dec. 11, 1995, at Bryan Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.
Rosary is 7:30 p.m. today at Butler-Volland Funeral Home chapel in Hastings. Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Hastings with the Rev. John Hawkins officiating. Burial will be in Kenesaw Cemetery at Kenesaw.
Mr. Parr was born July 31, 1944, to Peter and Bertha (Bonifas) Parr in Hastings. He attended Assumption Elementary School in Assumption and graduated from St. Cecilia High School in 1963. He was a sheet metal worker for Jones Sheet Metal. On Sept. 26, 1964, he married Jeanette Miller in Assumption. He began farming in 1965 and continued until his death.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Kenesaw, Crosier Apostolate in Hastings, Knights of Columbus and Cattleman's Association. He also delivered boxes for the annual Goodfellows Campaign for many years.
Survivors are his wife and two sons, Jeffrey and Derrick; two daughters, Donette Herringer of Juniata and Jamie Beal of Kenesaw; three brothers, Gerald of Hastings, Bernard of Roseland and James of Glenwood, Iowa; one sister, Marie Klein of Hastings; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters.
Memorials may be given to Crosier Monastery in Hastings, Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Kenesaw or Goodfellows.

Ruby B. Hare
Minden resident Ruby B. Hare, 79, died Saturday, Dec. 9, 1995, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Memorial services are 3 p.m. Wednesday at Layton Funeral Home chapel in Minden with the Rev. James O'Connor officiating. There will be no visitation.
Mrs. Hare was born March 15, 1916, in Hugo, Okla. She lived in Colorado Springs, Colo., before moving to Minden in July.
Survivors are one daughter, Gidget Langenberg of Minden; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

Lena M. Adams
Doniphan resident Lena M. Adams, 98, died Monday, Dec. 11, 1995, at her home.
Services are 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Brand-Wilson Funeral Home chapel in Hastings with the Rev. W.C. Westman officiating. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery at Rosedale. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Miss Adams was born Oct. 8, 1897, to John and Magdalena (Legler) Adams in Rosedale. She moved to Doniphan from Rosedale in 1928. She taught school for 20 years in Ayr, Prosser, Rosedale and Doniphan. She also was assistant postmaster at Doniphan Post Office from the late 1930s until 1968 when she retired.
She is survived by a sister, Ada Englert of Hastings.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
Memorials may be given to Rosedale Cemetery Association.
Richard E. Graham
Hastings resident Richard E. Graham, 75, of 2213 W. Eighth St. died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 1995, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.
Services are 1:30 p.m. Friday at Grace United Methodist Church with the Rev. James H. Miller officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Parkview Cemetery. Butler-Volland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Graham was born June 27, 1920, to Ford and Ethel (Richardson) Graham in Hastings. He graduated from Hastings Senior High School in 1939. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Medical Corps. On Dec. 7, 1941, he married Thelma M. Ricker. He was an ad compositor at the Hastings Tribune. He retired in 1985.
He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and American Legion.
Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Susan Rossell of Gothenburg and Kathleen North of Tempe, Ariz.; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister.
Memorials may be given to Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital or Grace United Methodist Church.
Jean H. Pittman
Hastings resident Jean H. (Hopkins) Pittman, 71, of 621 S. Lexington Ave. died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 1995, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.
Services are 10 a.m. Friday at Berean Bible Church with the Rev. Steve Hodgson officiating. The remains will be cremated. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Sunset Memorial Gardens north of Hastings. Visitation is 5-9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home.
Mrs. Pittman was born Aug. 11, 1924, to Earl R. and Edna (Leigh) Hopkins in Atlanta. She graduated from Holdrege High School and Mary Lanning School of Nursing. On June 28, 1944, she married Johnie W. Pittman. She was a registered nurse at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital for many years. She also was a Mary Kay consultant.
She was a member of Berean Bible Church, Night Owl Extension Club, and Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital Nurses Alumni Association.
Survivors are her husband; four daughters, Joan Andersen, Jill Holling, Jane Herrington and Renee Doyen, all of Hastings; two sons, John B. and Jerry C., both of Hastings; one brother, Paul E. Hopkins of Broomfield, Colo.; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters.

Noel E. Simpkins
Superior resident Noel E. Simpkins, 75, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 1995, at Good Samaritan Center in Superior.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Megrue-Price Funeral Home chapel in Superior with the Rev. Arthur Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery north of Superior. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. until services Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Simpkins was born Dec. 21, 1919, to Clinton and Lena (Jackson) Simpkins in David City. He grew up in the Staplehurst and Ulysses areas and graduated from Seward High School. He also lived in York, Lebanon, Kan., and Mount Grove, Mo. On April 15, 1938, he married Mable Katherine Vincent. She died Sept. 18, 1995. He was manager and hog buyer for York Pack in Superior for many years.
Survivors are three sons, Eugene of Kearney, Larry of Superior and Marvin of Sparta, Tenn.; two daughters, Geraldine Flack of Tulsa, Okla., and Beverly Radcliff of Norfolk; one brother, Dean; 18 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by one brother.

Henrietta Thompson
Former Hastings resident Henrietta (Keeney) Blincow Thompson, 88, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 1995, in Greenville, S.C.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at United Methodist Church in Oxford with the Rev. Mary Etta Parsons officiating. Burial will be in Oxford Cemetery. Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Thursday at Mitchell-Nelson Funeral Home in Oxford.
Mrs. Thompson was born July 31, 1907, to Henry Germaine and Annie (Deakin) Keeney in Cowles. She graduated from Doane College in Crete. She married Floyd Leslie Blincow. They lived in Oxford. After the death of her husband in 1956, she moved to Hastings. She married Ralph Thompson. They lived in Alma until his death. She returned to Hastings, later moving to Kearney. She was a student counselor at Hastings College and Kearney State College. After retiring she returned to Hastings and lived at Good Samaritan Village. She moved to Oakmont West Nursing Home in Greenville seven years ago.
She was a member of United Methodist Church in Oxford and past worthy matron of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors are two sons, John Keith Blincow of Greenville and Floyd Leslie Blincow of Tampa, Fla.; one brother, John D. Keeney of Hastings; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by two sons, Richard Henry Blincow and Robert Dean Blincow; and two sisters.
Hazel E. Porter
Riverton resident Hazel E. (Martin) Porter, 86, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 1995, at her home.
Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at Assembly of God Church in Riverton with the Rev. Frank Alexander officiating. Burial will be in Riverton Cemetery. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Hutchins Funeral Home in Franklin and 9 a.m. until services Saturday at the church.
Mrs. Porter was born March 3, 1909, to William and Della (Nickerson) Martin on a farm near Fairbury. She attended school in Lebanon. On Dec. 24, 1935, she married Elmer Porter in Phillipsburg, Kan. They lived in McCook and Curtis before moving to Riverton in 1967.
She was a member of the Presbyterian faith and Better Homes Extension Club.
Survivors are her husband; one daughter, Ethel Brush of Riverton; one son, Arthur of Smith Center, Kan.; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, two daughters, five brothers and four sisters.
Alida S. Duensing
Former Byron resident Alida S. (Heitmann) Duensing, 94, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 1995, at Blue Valley Home in Hebron.
Services are 3 p.m. Sunday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Byron with the Rev. Robert Hoeft officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery at Byron. Bachelor-Faulkner-Dart Funeral Home of Belleville, Kan., is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Duensing was born May 25, 1901, in rural Hardy. She married John H. Duensing. He died May 21, 1985.
She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and its choir, St. Paul Womens Circle and Byron Womens Club.
Survivors are one son, Lewis of Byron; four daughters, Loriene Eitzmann of Byron, Lola Eitzmann of Hardy, Esther Elting of Davenport and Verna Lambert of East Grand Forks, Minn.; one sister, Rosa Tietjen of Hebron; 16 grandchildren; and 43 great-grandchildren.
Wilma D. Jones
Former Davenport resident Wilma D. (Corman) Jones, 73, of Good Samaritan Center in Nelson died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 1995, at Brodstone Memorial Nuckolls County Hospital in Superior.
Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Nelson Community United Church of Christ with the Revs. Royce Buchtel and David Sellers officiating. Burial will be in Nelson Cemetery. Visitation is 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Klawitter-Price Funeral Home in Nelson.
Mrs. Jones was born Jan. 21, 1922, to Claude C. and Christena I. (Bower) Corman in rural Davenport. She graduated from Davenport High School and attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for one year. On June 10, 1943, she married Boyd Jones in Davenport. He died March 7, 1969. She moved to Good Samaritan Home Jan. 2, 1992.
She was a member of P.E.O., Order of the Eastern Star, Home Improvement Club and American Quarter Horse Association.
Survivors are two daughters, Carol Helzer of Derby, Kan., and Gwen Porter of Wahoo; two brothers, Orris Corman of Bridgeport and Vernon Corman of Davenport; and eight grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by one son, Jon R.; and two brothers.
