Graduated, Hamline University, St. Paul, Minn., 1938; Master of divinity degree, Garret Graduate School of Theology, Northwestern University, Evanston, Ill., 1941. Received honorary doctorate degrees from Oklahoma City University, Hamline University, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Lane College, Morningside College, Mount Union College and Nebraska Wesleyan University. Navy chaplain, lieutenant commander, World War II; stationed in South Pacific, 1943-46; received Commendation Medal and Award for military services from Fleet Adm. Chester W. Nimitz. Served as Methodist minister in Illinois, then came to Lincoln in 1953 where he was minister at Trinity Methodist Church until 1957. In 1957, became president of Nebraska Wesleyan University until retirement in 1977. During that time, was president of Nebraska Independent College Foundation, Nebraska Educational Television Council for Higher Education and Association of Methodist Colleges and Universities. During his tenure, transformed Wesleyan into a dynamic force in city, state and nation. Served as staff consultant and interim president, Lincoln Foundation, 1980-87. Senior associate/vice president, Larry Price & Associates, 1986-90. Chairman, Nebraska Educational Television Commission, 1981-94. Advisory director-customer and community relations, National Bank of Commerce, Lincoln, 1987-94, retiring on 12/31/94 at age 77.
