Shaner - Carl Kenneth and Iva Luree, Lincoln, died Wednesday (2/6/2002).
Carl, 90, born Rokeby (2/7/11) to John Henry and Florence (Smith) Shaner. On May 23, 1936, was united in marriage to Iva Luree Powell. Retired from Cushman Motor Co., 1975. He lived in Washington, D.C., during World War II, working for the Navy gun factory as machinist. Farmed in Holmesville for 15 years. Lived in Weslaco, Texas, for 20 years of retirement. Coached men's baseball team in Holmesville. Member, St. James United Methodist Church; Lincoln Continentals; East Lincoln Masonic Lodge 210; past patron, Eastern Star 148; past high priest, Capstone Chapter Royal Arch Masonic Lodge 64; Sesostris Temple; Lincoln Shrine Clowns. He loved baseball, singing and helping with the Shriner's crippled children's program.
Survivors: wife of 65 years, Iva L. Preceded in death by parents; brothers, Walter, Clarence, Robert, Raymond Shaner; sisters, Myrtle Wright, Pearl Brown.
Iva, 88, born Powell (4/30/13) to George and Lena (Ekwall) Powell. Graduated, Holmesville High School, 1932. Lived in Washington, D.C., during World War II. Former resident of Holmesville and Weslaco, Texas. Worked at Formfit in Beatrice and Sears Roebuck in Lincoln. On May 23, 1936, was united in marriage to Carl K. Shaner. Member, St. James United Methodist Church; Bryan board; United Methodist Women's Society; Lincoln Chapter of the Eastern Star, treasurer for several years; 4-H leader, five years. She loved to sew, crochet, knit and do crafts.
Preceded in death by husband, Carl K.; parents.

Worked for Hampton and Aurora post offices. Retired as postmaster in 1996 from Bradshaw post office. Avid lover of the following: baking pies, embroidery, gardening, growing beautiful violets, canning, playing cards and especially her grandchildren. Believed a great old home remedy to be "white tape." Member, Frieden's United Church of Christ, Goehner.

She had an avid interest in agriculture and land conservation. Farmed most of her life.
