Gustafson - Veo C., 80, Mead, died Friday (2/22/2002) in Omaha. Born, Lookeba, Okla., (10/4/21) to Andrew Dayton and Olive (Harris) Teel. In 1965, she married Norman D. Gustafson and moved to his home and farm in Mead where she became active in the community and was a dedicated member of the Evangelical Covenant Church of Mead.

Hopkins - Mary E., 82, of Lincoln, formerly of Albuquerque, N.M., widow of Francis J., died Wednesday (2/20/2002). She was born in Hartford, Conn. (4/23/19) to Peter and Mary Elizabeth (Wiemert). Her occupation was a riveter at Lockheed Aircraft. She was a member of St. Patricks Catholic Church.

Babcock - Leonard Earl, 87, Lincoln, died Friday (2/22/2002). Born, Hoxie, Kan., (5/26/14) to Valentine and Bessie (Rogers) Babcock.
Leonard's work in bomber and defense plants as a skilled tool and die maker was his contribution to the war defense effort during World War II. After the war, he worked 31 years for Western Electric Company in Omaha and Lincoln. He retired as a manager in 1977. Leonard took great delight in using his trade skills for the benefit of his family. He crafted many beautiful items for use in the family home. He also created toys made out of exotic wood for his children and grandchildren.
Beloved husband, father, brother and grandfather. Leonard is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy Jane; daughter, Jane Page Babcock, Fort Collins, Colo.; sons, daughters-in-law, Mark Stephens and Elizabeth Babcock, Dallas, Kimbal Scott and Charlotte Babcock, Flagstaff, Ariz.; sister, Lois Hickerson, Mission, Texas; grandchildren, Drake Stephens VanSickle, Katherine "Kate" Jane VanSickle, Brandt Joseph VanSickle, Emma Babcock Clark and husband, Danny, Martha Rose Babcock; nieces and nephews.
The family will be holding private services and request that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to the charity of your choice in Leonard's name.

Bahr - Matthew J., 30, Bismarck, N.D., originally of Lincoln, died (2/21/2002) from injuries sustained in a flash fire. A charismatic drummer for the rock bands Top Roxxi and Johnnie Quest and a talented and gifted tattoo artist and designer for Derma Design in Bismarck. His original designs are being used around the country and these designs reflect his zest and enthusiasm for the active life he led. Some of his artistry can also be seen at www.dermadesign.com.
He leaves behind to mourn his passing his mother, Deanna Bahr of Lincoln; father, stepmother, Jerry and Elaine Bahr of Portland, Ore.; brother, sister-in-law, Mike and Kim Bahr, Lincoln; sisters, brothers-in-law, Christe and Tony Krivda, Seward, Coker and Michael Manelis, Chicago; girlfriend, Charee Linton, Bismarck; grandparents, Lloyd and Angie Bahr, Norfolk, Beryl Holtzhouser, Missouri; other family members; solid legion of friends.
Service of remembrance: 1:30 p.m. Saturday, First-Plymouth Church, 2000 D St. The Rev. Matt Geiger. Interment at a later date. A memorial service will also be held in Bismarck, N.D. Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral Home, 4040 A St. "Rock on, Matt."

Boyd - Steven Gilruth, 31, Hastings, died Friday (2/22/2002). Born, Denver (12/4/70) to Jerry and Blue (Darrington). Graduate: Hastings High School, 1989; Central Arizona Junior College. Attended UNL. Record holding pitcher for UNL baseball team, 1992 and '93 seasons. Employee, Nebraksaland Distributors in Sales. Member: St. Michael's Catholic Church; Lochland and Southern Hills Country Clubs.
