Taught private cello lessons. Played in the Lincoln Civic Orchestra from its inception until age 88. Played viol in the Lincoln Consort of Viols, could play all of the viols in a consort. Earned bachelor's degree, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, 1933. Returned to UNL after husband's death, earned master's degree 1967 and started teaching career.

Hughes - M. Dale "Lefty," 79, Lincoln, died Thursday (12/6/01) at the Nebraska Veterans Home in Grand Island. Born, Ravenna (4/6/22) to Phillip Hughes and Elsie LaFever. Grew up in Lincoln, graduated from Jackson High School. Entered U.S. Navy (9/22/42), served during World War II, honorably discharged (9/24/45). Married Helen E. Grice (6/23/45), after which the couple lived in Lincoln, where he later operated Our Place Restaurant and Mobile Host Catering in University Place, with his family. Member, Fourth Presbyterian Church, Lincoln; Wood River/Alda VFW. Volunteered in Ord Elementary Grandfriend program. Enjoyed fishing, playing cards, square dancing and was an avid builder. He was responsible for starting a unique holiday tradition by showing their Snow Village collection at their lakeside home. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, a wonderful dad and a loyal friend.
