Anderson - Aldine E., 78, Lincoln, died Thursday (2/15/2001). Born in a snowstorm in a cabin in the woods of Minnesota, the last of 10 children. Aldine started school in a one-room schoolhouse, graduated from Denfeld High, Duluth, Minn., and obtained a B.A. from the University of Minnesota at Duluth. He was ordained a Lutheran minister in 1947 after graduating from Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minn. That same year he married Florence Moe and moved to DeSoto, Wis. He served parishes in Wisconsin, Oregon, and North Dakota before teaching Chaplaincy Pastoral Education in Houston and Austin, Texas and Omaha and Spokane, Wash. For four years Aldine was national president of the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education. Retired in 1989.
He will be remembered for his intricate woodcarving, masterful furniture making, and especially for his famous drawings; elaborate, detailed black and white designs with faces, animals, and creatures scrolled together. The artistry in his material world was a reflection of the creativity of his intellect and spirit. "Papa" taught us to always walk with one foot on the outside edge, and that as long as we are the authorities of our lives no one can ever hold power over us.
