Clarence R. Farrand, Jr.
Clarence Ray Farrand, Jr., 78, of Harvard, died Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2005 at his home. Funeral services were Friday, Dec. 9 at the Harvard United Methodist Church with Rev. Dale Coates officiating. Burial was in the Harvard Cemetery. Clarence Ray Farrand, Jr. was born Aug. 25, 1927 in Dell Rapids, S.D. to Clarence Ray Sr. and Zoe Marie (Page) Farrand. He graduated from Superior High School in 1946 then served in the U.S. Army as a telegrapher from 1946 to 1948. He married Wanda Ileene Davidson July 2, 1949 in Superior at the First Baptist Church. He then worked for Burlington Railroad as a agent and operator from 1949 until he retired in 1989. He was a Boy Scout scoutmaster in Harvard for 12 years. He served on the Harvard School Board for many years and the Harvard City Council. He was a past member of the South Central Counseling Region 3 Board of Directors, was past master of the Harvard Lodge #44 and past worthy patron of Harvard Chapter #30 O.E.S. He had been lay leader, Sunday school superintendent, Sunday school teacher and church treasurer at Harvard Methodist churches. He also was a Meals on Wheels volunteer, member of B.N.S.F. Veterans Organization, currently was a member of the Harvard Rest Haven Board of Directors and also helped organize Harvard youth baseball programs and was an avid golfer. Survivors include his wife, Wanda, of Harvard; one son, John (Diane) Farrand of Lincoln; one daughter, Mary (Steve) Carriker of Clay Center, 10 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; one daughter-in-law, Lee Ann Farrand of Aurora; one brother, Floyd Farrand of Sioux Falls, S.D. and one sister, Vivian Thompson of Pinnealis Park, Fla. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, James; one brother, Henry and one sister, Blanche. Memorials are directed to the Harvard United Methodist Church.

Marie Smith
Former Aurora resident Marie Smith, 96, of Omaha, died Thursday, Dec. 8, 2005 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Omaha. Graveside services were held Saturday morning, Dec. 10 at the Aurora Cemetery with Rev. Richard Karohl officiating. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Marie C. Smith
Marie C. Smith, daughter of Merton and Mary Elena (Hill) Jeffers was born May 8, 1909 in Hamilton County. She attended school in Hamilton and Custer counties. She married June H. Smith Feb. 8, 1920 in Nelson. They farmed in Hamilton County until 1955 when they moved into Aurora. She was manager of the Woodbine Apartments for several years. Her husband died March 27, 1966. She had been a member of the United Methodist Church in Aurora. Survivors include her daughter, Patty (Jerry) Seerden of Meridian, Idaho; two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; three brothers, Charles, Estyle and Dean Jeffers and six sisters, Bernice Spahr, Gladys Kirk, Doris Blackburn, Vera Jacques, Freeda Snoberger and Naomi Jensen. Martha O. DeZuba
Former Aurora resident Martha O. DeZuba, 81, of Longmont, Colo. died Dec. 11, 2005 at Applewood Living Center in Longmont. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 15 at LifeBridge Christian Church with Rick Rusaw officiating. Burial will be in Longmont Mountay View Cemetery. Visitation is from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14 at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday at the church. Martha O. DeZuba was born Oct. 5, 1924 in Aurora to John Albert and Ona (Brown) Oberg. She married Charles DeZuba on Aug. 4, 1947 in Aurora. She was a bank teller at Farmers State Bank in Aurora and Longmont National Bank.She also worked for Neo Data in Boulder for several years, retiring from there. She was a member of First Christian Church in Aurora, Nebraska and First Christian Church in Longmont (now LifeBridge Christian Church). She was active with the Friendly Folks Sunday school class at LifeBridge. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 32, volunteered as a Pink Lady for the Longmont United Hospital Auxiliary and volunteered at the Boulder County Health Department. She loved to garden, grow roses and bake, baking lots of cookies and enjoyed getting together with retired friends from Neo Data. She is survived by four sons, Mike DeZuba and his partner Eileen Maresca of Mead; David DeZuba of Longmont, Tom (Lisa) DeZuba of New Braunsfels, Texas and Jim DeZuba and his fianc'e Jodie McGuinness of Melbourne, Australia; a daughter, Becky (Dick) Shiffer of Longmont; a daughter-in-law, Vicki DeZuba of Longmont; a brother, John Oberg of Omaha; three sisters, Albertia McCabe of Riverside, Ill., June Falk of Flagstaff, Ariz. and Agnes (Berdean) Kohtz of Hampton; six grandchildren, Danielle (Greg) Elliott of Highlands Ranch, Dr. Nicole (Dr. Chad) Mathey of Longmont, Cass (Kensey) Montgomery of Durango, Colo., Janelle (Ken) Howell of Lynchburg, Virg., Jonathan Shiffer of Longmont and Travis DeZuba of New Braunsfels, Texas; three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband on July 1, 1974 and a son, Charles A. DeZuba on March 8, 2003. Former Aurora resident Bonnie J. White, 84, of Eustis, Fla., died Monday, Nov. 28, 2005. Memorial services were held at Beyers Funeral Home in Umatilla, Fla. with Dr. Michael Fransden officiating. Bonnie Jean White was born Sept. 22, 1921 in Auburn, Ill. She married Roland White Jan. 6, 1968. While living in Aurora she enjoyed playing bridge, golf, cooking and spending time with friends and family. The moved to Eustis, Fla. in 1990. She was a homemaker and member of First Presbyterian Church of Eustis. She also was a member of Pine Meadows Country Club, Duplicate Bridge Club and PEO Sisterhood. Survivors include her husband, Roland of Eustis, Fla.; two sons, William (Jan) Pace of Walkersville, Md. and Robert (Kathy) Pace of Tujuuga, Calif.; three stepchildren, Patricia (Bill) Parrott of Lincoln, Richard (Darlene) White of Sioux City, Iowa and Rodney (Teresa) White of Giltner; 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Elsmer L. Kuskie
Elsmer L. Kuskie, 86, of Central City, died Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2005 at Litzenberg Memorial County Hospital in Central City. Funeral services were Monday, Dec. 12 at Wagner Funeral Home in Central City with the Rev. Rich Savage officiating. Burial was in the Central City Cemetery. Elsmer L. Kuskie was born Aug. 5, 1919 to William 'Bill' and Laurie (Hilderbrand) Kuskie in Central City where he grew up there and received his education in the Central City area. He married Daisy E. Zichek on Aug. 30, 1940 in Central City at her parents' home. For one year they lived a mile west of their farm place north of Central City. They spent their entire married life on the farm, where he farmed and ran a trucking and corn shelling business. He was a member of the Central City United Methodist Church. He loved to go fishing and hunting and was a hard worker. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife. Survivors include his wife, Daisy; a son, Larry (Marlene) Kuskie of Kearney; a daughter, Evelyn (Bob) Herbig of Central City; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and a brother Virgil (Maxine) Kuskie of Central City. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Marge Kuskie and Donnal Schmidt and one brother, Leon Kuskie. Memorials are directed to the Central City United Methodist Church. Virgil Bell
Virgil Bell 96, of Grand Island, died Monday, Dec. 19, 2005 at Tiffany Square Care Center in Grand Island. Funeral Services were Thursday, Dec. 22 at First Christian Church with the Rev. Erin Curtis officiating. Burial was in Phillips Cemetery. Mr. Bell was born near Somerset, Ky, Sept. 7, 1909 to Cicero and Allie L. (Spann) Bell. He was the youngest of seven boys. He married Helen Curtin on Feb. 4, 1934 at Giltner. He was a barber in Cheyenne, Wyo. and later worked for IBM in Boulder, Colo. until he retired in 1974. His later years were spent in Grand Island where he was an active member of the First Christian Church. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Barbara (Harold) Patterson, of Lebanon, Ohio and Ruth Ann (Gary) Anderson of Oak Harbor, Ohio; four grandchildren, Lynn Becker and Lori Cook both of Ohio, Kirsten Georgi of Virginia and Erik Anderson of Kansas; four great grandchildren and a foster granddaughter; two special nieces and their husbands: Leola (Don) Bish and Mary Ann (Jerry) Hinricks of Giltner. Eileen Larson
Eileen Larson, 92, of Aurora, died Monday, Dec. 26, 2005 at Memorial Community Care in Aurora. Funeral services will be Wednesday, Dec. 28 at 10 a.m. in Monroe Evangelical Free Church near Murphy with Rev. Mark Dunham officiating. Burial will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Eileen Marie Larson, daughter of Henry T. and Mabel A. (Engstrom) Hugoson, was born July 7, 1913 in East Chain Township, Martin County, Minn. She grew up on the family farm and was confirmed at East Chain Evangelical Free Church. She graduated from St. Paul Hairdressers School, then worked at Gillespie's Beauty Shop with a friend, Laura Roforth. She married Warren G. Larson of Holdrege at East Chain Evangelical Free Church Sept. 27, 1914. They moved to Rockford, Ill. to work in a defense plant. When he was drafted into the service, they were stationed in Georgia. After her father died in a farm accident, her husband was given a farm-related discharge from the Army to come home to farm. They moved to Nebraska March 1, 1952 where they continued to farm. They owned and operated Larson Restaurant on Highway 34 in Aurora from 1988 to 1976. Her husband died Feb. 28, 1995. Survivors include one daughter, Cynthia (Ron) Bryan of Loup City; two grandsons, Peter Miller of Aurora and John Bryan of Hastings; one godson, Joe Friedrichsen of Omaha; a brother, Leighton Hugoson of East Chain, Minn. and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two sisters, Margaret Jensen and Doris Brockman.

Beulah Marvel
Former Giltner resident Beulah Marvel, 85, of Lincoln, died Sunday, Dec. 25, 2005. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 28 at Southview Christian Church in Lincoln with Pastor Robert Arnold officiating. Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Park. Visitation 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Lincoln Memororial Funeral Home, 6800 S. 14th Street, Lincoln and one hour before services at the church. Mrs. Marvel was born March 6, 1920 in Giltner to Albert T. and Daisy B. (Clark) Maw. She was a 25+ year employee of the Lincoln Regional Center. She was a member of Silver Crest Red Hatters and Southview Christian Church. Survivors include one son Roger (Marilyn) Marvel, of Glenwood, Iowa; three daughters, Janice (Ross) Smith, Palm Harbor, Fla., Sharon (Russell) Brundige, Las Vegas, Nev. and Wauneta Warwick of Omaha; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Maw of Aurora; 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; many friends, other relatives and foster great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Oren Marvel; granddaughter, Laura Brundige; son-in-law, Barry Warwick; brothers, Kenneth and Eugene Maw.

Harold Young
Harold Lloyd Young, 78, of Hordville, died at his home Sunday, Dec. 25, 2005. There will be visitation at Solt Funeral Home in Polk on Wednesday, Dec. 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with a prayer service at 2 p.m. with Sister Mary Arie officiating. Burial will be in Council Bluffs at a later date. Mr. Young was born in Sears, Fla. on Oct. 31, 1927, to Isaac M. and Edith (Berg) Young. He grew up in Council Bluffs and graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs. He entered the United States Army Feb. 5, 1946 and was honorably discharged Aug. 10, 1947. He married Donna L. Vermuele Jan. 1, 1954 in Los Angeles, Calif. He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for many years and then worked for the Council Bluffs Public Schools as a custodian. They moved to Hordville in the 1970s, then returned to Council Buffs for 10 years. In 1994, they settled permanently in their home in Hordville. He was a life member of the VFW, he enjoyed bowling, country music and attending country music concerts. Survivors include his wife, Donna of Hordville; his son, Harold M. Young and his daughter, Jeanna Voss, both of York; and his daughter, Linda Young of Missouri; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Bill; and one sister, Lucille.

Aaron 'John' Pollat
Aaron 'John' Pollat, 69, of Aurora, died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2005 at Memorial Community Care in Aurora. Funeral services were Tuesday morning, Jan. 3 at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary chapel in Aurora with Rev. Monty Nelson officiating. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at higbymortuary.com. Aaron John Pollat, son of Myron A. and Elsie B (Peterjohn) Pollat, was born Aug. 18, 1936 in Lexington. He grew up in Cozad and graduated from Cozad High School in 1953. He attended Kearney State College two years then graduated from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 1959 with a degree in natural science with a biology major. He taught at Omaha Benson High School for several years. He then went on to work as a medic in Omaha where he assisted in the surgery ward. During this time he was on active duty with the National Guard as a medic. He was in the 5th Army Infantry in Missouri, the 134th Red-Bull Active, taking his training in Fort Sam Houston at San Antonio, Texas. In 1960 he moved to Aurora and started farming. He raised 43 corn crops in his career. At the same time, he became involved in aviation. He was a flyer and had his own field called 'Aaron's Field' which he was very proud of. He was a member of the Presbyterian United Church of Christ, Centennial Lodge #326 AF&AM in Omaha and the Scottish Rite. He also was an active member of Lamda Chi Alpha fraternity at UNO. He enjoyed fishing. Survivors include his sister, Gloria Pollat Lindberg and her husband Theodore P. Lindberg; two nieces, Elise Lindberg and her husband Mark Girard and daughter Amber and Kristine Erickson and her husband Scott and their son, Parker, all of Minneapolis, Minn.; aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Edith Olson
Edith Olson, 93, of Aurora, died Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006 at Memorial Community Care in Aurora. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 4 at 10:30 a.m. at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary chapel. Burial will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Edith Blanche (Ryan) Oswald Olson, daughter of Sanford and May (Noel) Ryan, was born Feb. 3, 1912 in Hamilton County where she grew up and graduated from Aurora High School. She taught country school in Hamilton County for three years. She married Gilbert R. Oswald May 24, 1933 in Aurora. They lived on a farm southwest of Aurora for many years. They spent winters in California where she worked at Orange County Bank. Her husband died Jan. 4, 1971. She married Orville 'Olie' Olson in Aurora on J an. 5, 1979. They lived in Aurora and spent winters in Arizona. He died Sept. 29, 1994. She loved traveling, spending time with her family, fishing, cooking and square dancing. She also enjoyed playing cards with her friends. Survivors include her children, Janet (Dick) Grosshans of Aurora; three grandchildren, Nick (Gaylene) Grosshans, Ned (Rhonda) Grosshans, all of Aurora and Julie (Bill) Krause of Auburn; nine great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Don Ryan of Orange, Calif., Vern Ryan of Alamo, Calif. and Leonard Ryan of Lake Forest, Calif; many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands; one brother, Jack; three sisters, Viola, Beulah and Doris and a special friend, Lou Selesky.

Rodney Green
Rodney Green, 55, of Phillips, died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006 at his home. Funeral services were Tuesday morning, Jan. 31 at the United Methodist Church in Aurora. Rev. Richard Karohl officiated. Burial was in the Aurora Cemetery. Rodney Wayne Green, son of Harlan and Betty M. (Wagner) Green, was born April 3, 1950 in Omaha. He grew up in Aurora and graduated from Aurora High School in 1968. He served in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in 1970. His first jobs included working at Smith Plumbing and as a salesman for Nebraska Builders. He married Teresa Spitz Dec. 23, 1987 in Grand Island. They bought and sold antiques and collectibles through flea markets, antique shows and estate sales. He especially enjoyed collecting Maytag memorabilia. Survivors include his wife, Teresa Green of Phillips; one daughter, Tiffany Green of Phillips; his mother, Betty Green of Aurora; one sister, Polly Green of Denver; a niece and nephew, aunts, uncles and friends. JoAnn Lemkau
JoAnn Lemkau, 67, of Aurora, died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006 at Hamilton Manor in Aurora. Funeral services were Monday, Jan. 30 at the United Methodist Church in Aurora with Rev. James Corson officiating. Burial was in the Aurora Cemetery. JoAnn Mildred Lemkau, daughter of Edwin and Martha (Griess) Heftie, was born April 24, 1938 in Sutton. She grew up in Stockham and graduated from Aurora High School. She attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln one year before returning to attend and graduate from Webber's Beauty School in Grand Island. She married Dean Lemkau and raised three children while helping out on the farm and establishing a beauty shop business. She had shops in Sutton, Hastings, Harvard, Henderson and Aurora during her career. She was a member of the Aurora United Methodist Church. In her spare time, she loved to go dancing. Survivors include her mother, Martha Heftie of Aurora; three children, Dawn (Mark) Maybon of Aurora, Rick (April) Lemkau of Sutton and Doyle (Jennifer) Lemkau of Grand Island; six grandchildren, MaKayla, Shayna and Kamryn Maybon, Jason and Jered Lemkau and Tegan Lemkau; other relatives and friends. Dr. Arthur R. Plith
Dr. Arthur R. 'Doc' Plith of Phillips died Wednesday, Jan. 25 at the VA Medical Center in Omaha following a brief illness. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. in Higby-McQuiston Mortuary chapel. The son of Arthur Roy and Grace (Harris) Plith, he was born July 21, 1914 in Horace. He grew up in Randolph and attended the University of Nebraska and graduated from the UNL Dental College in 1938. Following his graduation he began his dental practice in Grand Island. He served with the 96th Infantry 'Deadeye' Division in the Philippines and participated in the invasion of Okinawa during World War II. He returned to his practice in Grand Island following the war and retired in 1980. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, Eagles, Platt Deutsch, American Legion, VFW and the 96th Infantry Reunion Association. Survivors include two sons, Bill Plith and Tom (Rose) Plith of Omaha; granddaughters Karla (Keith) Jones of Denver and Amy (James) Martinez and Sarah (Ding) Plith-Seldera, all of Omaha; three great-grandsons. Robert L. Van Pelt
Robert Van Pelt, 78, of the Shreveport-Bossier, La. area, died Jan. 29, 2006. Graveside services were held Friday, Feb. 3 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with full Military Honors and with Masonic services under the auspices of Harlandale Lodge #1213, AF&AM. Mr. Van Pelt was born Sept. 13, 1927 in Archer and was raised in Aurora where he attended public schools and was a member of Aurora High School's graduating class of 1945. He retired from military service after a career with various intelligence organizations of the Department of Defense. Following retirement from the Air Force, he was employed as an insurance investigator with Retail Credit Company, a property tax administrator with the South San Antonio and the Southside Independent School Districts in San Antonio, Texas. He was an appointed member of the Appraisal Review Board with the Bexar County Appraisal District in San Antonio. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion in Aurora. He was a member of Harlandale Masonic Lodge #1213 AF&AM, San Antonio, Texas, 32nd Degree with the Cheyenne Consistory, Cheyenne, Wyo. and El Karubah Shrine, Shreveport, La., where he was active with the parade unit. He was a member of the National Army Security Agency Association, a Life Member of the Air Force Security Service/Air Intelligence Agency Alumni Association, and a Life Member of the San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo Association, where he was active with the Ambassador Committee. He is survived by his daughters, Kathy (John) Keenan, of Bossier City, La. and Marsha (Richard) Slevin, of Bowling Green, Ky. and his son David (Lois) Van Pelt, of Lampasas, Texas; five grandchildren, Guy Goarin, Karianne (David) Halcro, Matthew (Christina) Keenan, Becky Van Pelt and Ruthie (Bryan) Hall; seven great-grandchildren, seven sisters-in-law and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Irma Timmons
Irma Timmons, 100, of Aurora formerly of the Hordville area, died Monday, Feb. 13, 2006 at Memorial Community Care in Aurora. Funeral services will be Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Solt Funeral Home in Central City with Rev. Ralph Supernaw officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, Feb. 14 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Hordville Cemetery. Mrs. Timmons was born June 25, 1905 in Hamilton County to Adolph and Christine Ortegren. She grew up in Hamilton County and received her education in country school there. On Feb. 3, 1932 she married Ernest Timmons in Clay Center. They lived in Hamilton County and farmed in the early years of their marriage. Between the years of 1942 and 1945 they lived in Central City and then returned to live and farm in Hamilton County. She worked for many years at Dukes' Rest Home and Bethesda Care Center in Central City and she was a charge nurse for many years at Memorial Hospital in Aurora. Her husband died May 15, 1985. She went to live in Aurora in 1986, returned to Hordville for a few years and then returned to Aurora in 1999 to live at Memorial Community Care. She had attended the Mamre Evangelical Free Church and she enjoyed sewing, gardening and crocheting. Survivors include her two sons, Dallas Timmons of St. Paul and Rodney (Sandy) Timmons of Hordville; her daughter, Jerene Theetge of Ithaca, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; one grandchild; three sisters, Siegred Moore, Hilma Luthy and her twin sister Norma Ortegren; five brothers, Thure, Henry, Reuben, Rudolph 'Pete' and Doug Ortegren. Howard E. Friesen
Howard E. Friesen, 83, of Henderson, died Friday, April 14, 2006 in Aurora. Graveside services were Tuesday, April 18 at Bethesda Cemetery near Henderson followed by memorial services at Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson. Mr. Friesen was born May 11, 1922 at Henderson to Isaac and Agnes (Doell) Friesen. He farmed and then was employed by the city of Henderson for 16 years, serving 14 of those years on the police department. He married Pauline Friesen Dec. 13, 1942 in Henderson. He enjoyed gardening, coffee with his friends and was always willing to help his friends and neighbors. Survivors include his wife Pauline of Henderson; four sons, Dale (Judy) Friesen of Fayetteville, Ark., Delmer (Ardenna) Friesen of Sutton, DeWayne (Susan) Friesen of Lincoln and Dean (Kathy) Friesen of Desoto, Iowa; three daughters, Elaine (Gary) Hansen of Overland Park, Kan., Carolyn Rice of Lincoln and LaDonna (Robert) Barnett of Katy, Texas; 20 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Irene R. Friesen
Former Henderson resident Irene R. Friesen, 86, of Lincoln, died Wednesday, July 12, 2006 in Lincoln. Funeral services were Monday July 17 at the Arbor Drive Community Church in York with the Rev. Keith Bateman and Bob Rice of the Lincoln Berean Church officiating. Burial was in the Bethesda Mennonite Cemetery at Henderson. Mrs. Friesen was born on a farm near Henderson on Oct. 4, 1919 to George H. and Helena (Kroeker) Friesen. She attended York College and received her masters degree from UNL.She taught second grade in Henderson and Aurora. She was a member of the Arbor Drive Community Church in York, Delta Kappa Gamma and Nebraska Retired Teachers Assn. Survivors include her sister, Leona Janzen of Lincoln; several nieces and nephews. Former Aurora resident Patricia D. Fosket, 55, of Lincoln died unexpectedly at her home on Friday, April 14, 2006. Services are pending with Curran Funeral Chapel in Grand Island. More details will appear later.

Virginia Flodman
Virginia 'Ginny' Flodman, 89, of Polk, died Saturday, May 20, 2006 at Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg. Funeral services will be Thursday, May 25 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Polk with Rev. Daniel Spearow officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 24 from 6-8 p.m. at Solt funeral Home in Polk. Burial will be in the Swede Plain Cemetery near Polk. Virginia Rose Elizabeth Moore was born Sept. 15, 1916 in Central City to Walter L. and Elva P. (Gilliard) Moore. She grew up in Central City and graduated from Central City High School in 1934. On Sept. 20, 1934, she married Carrol M. Flodman in Council Bluffs, Iowa. They made their home in Polk where they farmed. In addition to working on the farm, Virginia sold Avon. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Polk and a charter member of the Polk Senior Center. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, trying new recipes, and crafts. For many years, she also volunteered with projects sponsored by Blue Valley Community Action. Survivors include three sons, Robin (Laurie) Flodman of Eaglerock, Mo., Deland 'Del' (Alice) Flodman of San Diego, Calif., and Merton (Lonna) Flodman of Osceola; three daughters, LaRita (Canute) Sorenson of Shakopee, Minn., Donna (Edward) Hafer of Minerva, Ohio, and Patty (Sam) Grogan of Stromsburg; 19 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband on June 4, 1981, infant daughter Deanna Rae in 1940, infant son Edward Lee in 1939; granddaughter Rita Dawn Shenk; grandson Keith Shenk; two brothers, Dean Moore and Donald Moore; and one sister, Mary Jane Christensen. Donna B. Kamtz
Former Hampton resident Donna B. Kamtz, 81, died Friday, May 19, 2006 in Loveland, Colo. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hordville. Donna B. Hansen was born Sept. 6, 1924 to John Herman and Olga Marie (Madsen) Hansen. She married Melvin Kamtz Dec. 10, 1944 in Hampton. The couple resided there until moving to Loveland, Colo. in 1966. They lived in Loveland, Colo until 1980 when the moved to Arizona where they lived until 1990, when they came back to Loveland, Colo. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and was a volunteer at the church and involved with the quilting group. She was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing and baking. she also enjoyed golf in her earlier years. Survivors include husband Melvin Kamtz of Loveland, Colo.; sons Russell H. (Carol) Kamtz of Loveland, Colo., Robert W. (Carolyn) Kamtz of Loveland, Colo., James A. (Stephanie) Kamtz of Florida, and Jeffery L. (Kristina) Kamtz of Gilbert, Ariz.; daughter Patricia (Daniel) Metzler of Mid West City, Okla.; brothers Bud Hansen of Hampton, Neil Hansen of Shawnee, Kan., and Larry Hansen of Hampton; sisters Evelyn Pohl of Hampton, Frances Danielson of Omaha, Lorraine Bamesberger of Hampton, and Janelle Petersen of Omaha; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one grandchild. Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church in care of Allnutt-Hunter Chapel.
