Richard A. 'Dick' Anderson
Richard A. "Dick" Anderson, 73, of Hordville, died of cancer at his home on Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2006. Funeral services were Monday, Nov. 20 at Fridhem Lutheran Church in Hordville with Sister Mary Arie officiating. Burial was in the Hordville Cemetery. Mr. Anderson was born Feb. 13, 1933 in Hordville to Richard L. and Bertha O. (Hult) Anderson. He grew up in Hordville, graduating from Hordville High School in 1950. He continued his education at Nebraska Central College and Grand Island School of Business. He married Gladys M. Jensen March 8, 1953 in Central City. He entered the U.S. Army on April 13, 1953, took his basic training at Camp Pickett in Blackstone, Virg. and then was transferred to Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. He was honorably discharged on April 12, 1955, and returned to Nebraska and worked at the College of Medicine in Omaha. On Dec. 1, 1957, they returned to Hordville and he took a position at the First State Bank. He later became president of the bank and continued to serve his community for 49 years. As a very active member of the community, he served on many boards including the Hordville Village Board for 44 years (23 years as mayor) and the Hordville School Board. He was a member of the Fridhem Lutheran Church and served on the church board. He also served on the he Hordville Housing Authority, Hamilton Manor Board, Hamilton Community Foundation board, NPPD Board and the Nebraska Independent Community Bankers Board of Directors. He was the recipient of the Chairman's Award in 2006. He also was a member of the Hordville Volunteer Fire Department, Central City American Legion Post #6, Masonic Lodge, Hordville Lions Club, Valley View Country Club and had served as Grand Marshal at the Hordville Centennial Celebration in September. He loved living in Hordville, loved raising his sons and playing golf with his long-time partner and friend, Don Sampson. He enjoyed being at the bank and coming into daily contact with everyone. Survivors include his wife, Gladys of Hordville; three sons, R. Scott (Lori) Anderson of Richardson, Texas, Bill (Tina) Anderson of Hordville and Jim (Kerstin) Anderson of Portland, Ore.; one sister, Betty Rollf of Lincoln; five grandchildren, Rob Anderson and Melissa Anderson both of Hordville, Kristen Anderson of Richardson, Texas, Greta Anderson and Linnea Anderson both of Portland, Ore.; and one niece, Linda (Steve) Lee of Owasso, Okla. Otis K. Williamson
Former Hampton resident Otis K. Williamson, 77 of Grand Island, died Monday, Nov. 13, 2006 at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island. Memorial services were Saturday at the Messiah Lutheran Church in Grand Island with Rev. David Zellmer officiating. Inurnment was Saturday in the Kronborg St. John's Lutheran Cemetery near Marquette. The Hampton American Legion provided military honors. He was born July 28, 1929 at York to Thomas A. and Laura (Jacobsen) Williamson. He was raised on a family farm near Hampton and received his education in Hordville, graduating in 1947. He entered the United States Army on June 13, 1951 being honorably discharged on June 12, 1953. Following the military he farmed. Later he worked as a carpenter at Gion Estate Homes. Then he worked at Bills Volume Sales at Central City and retired in 2000 from Platte River By Products. He married Marilyn Travis in 1951. On Aug. 8, 1980 he married Marilyn Lindgren. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Cosmopolitan Club and American Legion in Hampton, the Platt-Duestche, Saddle Club and Eagles. He has been part of Alcoholics Anonymous since 1973. He enjoyed his family, friends and his dogs. Survivors include his wife Marilyn; children, Bill (Janet) Williamson of Omaha, Laura (Francis) Moran of Camden Point, Mo., Wayne (Cindy) Williamson of Lincoln; step children, Carmen (Edward )Meininger of Grand Island, Donnise (Michael) Larsen of Grand Island, Diane (Greg) Slemons of Seattle, Wash. and Sharon (Frank) Versaw of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and two brothers, Alan Dean Williamson of Plano, Texas and Lester Williamson of Aurora. Other survivors are grandchildren and their families, Michelle (Brand) Royal, Jeff (Darci) Williamson, Chris (Kathy) Hutchinson, Traci (Justin) Sisson, Brandi(Richard) K.E. Frederick 'Dale' Heinzman
Dale Heinzman, 85, of Phillips, died Friday, Nov. 17, 2006, at Memorial Hospital in Aurora. Services will be Wednesday, Nov. 22 at 1:00 p.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Aurora. Fr. Dennis Hunt will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The United Veterans Honor Guard will provide military rites. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Curran Funeral Chapel with a scripture wake service at 7 p.m. Frederick "Dale" Heinzman, son of Scott and Maude E. (Gish) Heinzman, was born Feb. 11, 1921, at Phillips. He grew up in Phillips, graduating from Phillips High School in 1940. He entered the Navy on May 17, 1942 serving with the Air Transport Squadron until his honorable discharge on January 1, 1946. He returned to Phillips and farmed in that area. He married Emma Chmelka on Aug. 21, 1959, at Grand Island. They lived in Phillips and he continued to farm and was owner of Heinzman Engineering with his two brothers. His wife died April 3, 2005. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Aurora, Platt Duetsche, Saddle Club and the V.F.W. Survivors include one daughter, Susan (Doug) Boehle of Phillips; one stepdaughter, Mary Anne Chmelka of Grand Island; three stepsons, David (Carole) Chmelka of Grand Island, Victor Chmelka of Omaha; John "J.J." Chmelka of Grand Island; three grandchildren, three step-grandchildren; one step-great granddaughter; one brother, Wayne (Joan) Heinzman of Phillips. Glenn Berthelsen
Glenn Berthelsen, 86, of Aurora, died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2006 at Bryan/LGH East in Lincoln. Funeral services were Tuesday morning, Nov. 21 at Higby-McQuiston chapel in Aurora. Rev. Arlin Cochran and Elder Scott Butcher officiated. Burial was in the Aurora Cemetery. Glenn J. Berthelsen, son of James and Emma (Juhl) Berthelsen, was born June 3, 1920 in Bowesmont, N.D. He was raised on a farm in Bowesmont and attended Fleece County School for his elementary education. He attended Cheyenne River Academy in Harvey, N.D. for his secondary education. He met Alma Hansen at the academy and they were married Dec. 23, 1941. They farmed in Iowa and Minnesota. After farming they moved to North Dakota where he worked for a truck equipment company. In 1969 he and his family moved to Marquette and he worked as a supervisor for Century Manufacturing Company in Aurora until his retirement in 1987. He loved to garden and especially liked to grow flowers of all kinds. He had a passion for fishing and loved to tell and hear fishing stories. He will always be remembered for his sense of humor. Survivors include his wife, Alma of Aurora; six children, Arlen (Virginia) Berthelsen of Mesa, Ariz., Bonita Berthelsen of Harrisburg, Mo., Susan (Ralph) Villani of Tustin Ranch, Calif., Janice (Chris) Kowalis of Katy, Texas, Gary (Tara) Berthelsen of Aurora and Vicki (Michael) Sronce of Bellevue, Colo.; 11 grandchildren, Laura, Amy, Holly, Jason, Shayla, Heather, Elizabeth, Cindy, Oliver, Myles, Eliott, Joshua and Andrew; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Calvin and Owen; one sister, Mae. Bernard W. Land
Former owner of Aurora radio station KKBB Bernard W. Land, 83, of Colorado, died Wednesday, Nov. 15 after a short illness. Funeral services were Sunday, Nov. 19 at Trinity Methodist Church in Denver. Burial was Monday at Ft. Logan Cemetery He grew up on a Central Nebraska farm. He headed to college to study finance but found himself being shipped out of the country by the Army to Saipan. Once home from the Army, he headed back to college at Doane in Crete where he joined a barbershop quartet that traveled the state recruiting students. When he and wife, Lola, moved to Brighton, Colo. in 1953, because of a banking job, he joined his church choir and soon found the voices for another quartet and they sang at all kinds of functions. In 1961 he took the job of business administrator for Trinity Methodist Church in downtown Denver and moved his family to North Denver. He was there for eight years and was working for them when the church burned in the 60s. He moved his membership to St. James Methodist Church in Central City, Colo. where he served as treasurer for the trust fund and church. In Brighton, he had joined the Lion's Club and helped start the Adams Centennial Club. After taking the job of vice president at Republican National Bank in Englewood, Colo. and moving his family to Littleton, he joined the Englewood Kiwanis Club where he was president and treasurer. He moved to the Englewood Lions Club and also did their books. A few years ago, he and his wife helped start the Highlands Ranch Lions Club. After retiring from the bank in 1989, he was able to give more time to the Lions fundraising project, Englewood Bingo. He worked that every week and did their bookkeeping. In 1985 he and his wife went in as partners with another couple to buy the radio station in Aurora, Nebraska after selling their own AM/FM station in southern Colorado. They changed the call letters to KKBB and programmed it big bands and ballads. Eventually they moved the station to Grand Island, increased the power, changed the call letters and format and then sold it. Survivors include his wife; mother-in-law, Lucile Hutsell of Oregon; daughter, Karen (Tony) Cranford of Morrison; sons Steven Land and Scott (Tammy) Land, both of California; four grandchildren and numerous other relatives, nieces and nephews.

Albert A. Franz
Albert A. Franz, 92, of Henderson, died Thursday, Nov.16, 2006 at Henderson. Funeral services were Tuesday, Nov. 21 at the Faith Evangelical Bible Church, Henderson. Burial followed in the Council Cemetery southwest of York. He was born March 30, 1914 near Lushton to Isaac and Sara (Epp) Franz. He farmed in the Henderson area until his retirement. He married Elizabeth Kroeker on June 19, 1935 in the Kroeker family home near Henderson. He was a member of the Community Bible Church in Lushton where he was a board member and Sunday school teacher. He served for several years on the Advisory Council for Nebraska Christian High School in Central City and Grace College of the Bible in Omaha. He also had been a board member for Grace Mission and a former member of the Gideon Bible Society. Survivors include one son, Ardean (Betty) Franz of Henderson; daughters, Elvina (Jim) Holbrook of Twin Falls, Idaho, Lois (Gerald) Dick of Holdrege, Alice (Robert) Decker of Henderson and Glenda (Bryan) Goertzen of Aurora; 17 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are sister-in-laws Blanche Franz of Henderson and Nettie Friesen of Henderson and brother-in-law Gustav Thieszen of O'Neill. He was preceded in death by his parents, one infant granddaughter Becky Renae Franz, two sisters, Lydia Franz and Malinda Buller and two brothers, Edward and August. Arlie Smith
Arlie C. Smith, 86, of Marquette, died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2006 at his home in Marquette. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 22 at 10:30 a.m. in Messiah Lutheran Church in Aurora. Rev. Chris Kester Beyer will officiate. Burial will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. Arlie C. Smith, son of Edward C. and Augusta (Christiansen) Smith, was born Oct. 16, 1920 in Marquette. He grew up on a farm near Marquette. He was confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Kronborg. He attended Hampton High School and graduted in 1938. Following high school he joined the United States Army and served his country in World War II. He married Marjorie Sanderson April 4, 1949 at Raton, New Mexico. Following their marriage he farmed in the Marquette area. He was a member of the Hamilton County VFW and Wyoming American Legion. Survivors include his wife, Marge Smith of Marquette; two sons, Dan (Susie) Smith of Lincoln and Steve Smith of Lincoln; two daughters, Christina (Steve) Smith of Mt. Dora, Fla. and Barbara Huffman of Omaha; eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; a brother-in-law, Leif Hermansen. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Kenneth and August Smith; one sister, Sena Hermansen.

Larry Davis
Larry Davis, 61, of Aurora, died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2006 at Memorial Hospital in Aurora. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22 at the United Methodist Church in Aurora. Pastor Richard Karohl will officiate. Larry O. Davis, son of Larry and Mary (Zielsdorf) Davis, was born March 15, 1945 in Cheyenne, Wyo. where he attended school, graduating in 1963. He lived in Colorado and Wyoming before moving to Aurora in the late 1970s. He married Beva Dedrickson in May of 1983 in Clay Center. He was a gunsmith who enjoyed hunting, NASCAR and collecting die-cast cars. He had a special relationship with his son, Cody. Survivors include his son, Cody Davis of Aurora, his ex-wife, Beva Davis of Aurora; one sister, Debby Spradlin of Cody, Wyo. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother. Duane L. Stevenson
Former Aurora resident Duane L. Stevenson, 77, of Boelus, died Friday, Nov. 17, 2006 at St. John's Good Samaritan Center in Kearney. Funeral services were Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Cairo with Rev. Dale Lambert officiating. Burial was in Soulville Cemetery near Boelus. Duane L. Stevenson, son of Maniel Ray and Zora Dolly (Coffey) Stevenson, was born June 30, 1929 on a farm near Aurora. He grew up near Aurora and attended Hamilton County rural school District 77. After completing his education, he worked for area farmers. He married Loretta E. Payne Sept. 14, 1948 in York. They lived in various communities while he worked as a truck driver and at the Cornhusker Army Ammunitions Plant in Grand Island. They farmed and milked cows in the Farwell and Boelus communities for many years. In March of 2006 they moved to St. John's Good Samaritan Center. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church of Boelus and had served on the church board. He started and was a member of Rough Riders Horse Club that organized trail rides and horse shows. He was a long-time organizer of tractor pulls and won many championships. He was involved in 4-H and FFA and was a long-time 4-H leader. He also helped organize many benefits for people in the community. He enjoyed rodeos, auctions, western music, gardening, tractor pulls, wrestling and going to casinos. He loved to visit and enjoyed checking up on everyone. Survivors include his wife, Loretta of Kearney; six sons, Duane (Nancy) Stevenson Jr. of Nazareth, Penn., Greg (Shirley) Stevenson of Grand Island, John (Julie) Stevenson of Rockville, Darren Stevenson of Cairo, James Stevenson of Ravenna and Jason Stevenson of Boelus; four daughters, Janet (Joe) Moraczewski of Ashton, Karen (William) Keesler of Kearney, Beverly (William) Kennedy of Gibbon, Valerie (Greg) Ambrose of St. Paul; one sister, Donna Hosier of Giltner; 27 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Peggy Stevenson; his parents; one brother, Lyle Stevenson; one sister, Elaine Wagner and an infant sister, Bonnie Mae Stevenson. Velma Schneider Goertzen
Velma V. Schneider Goertzen, 92 of Henderson, died Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2006 in Lincoln. Services were Monday, Nov. 27, 2006 at the Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson with the Rev. Weldon Martens officiating. Burial was in the Exeter Cemetery at Exeter. She was born March 12, 1914 in rural Fairmont to August and Elizabeth (Urbach) Miller. She married Clifford Schneider at Washington, Kan. on June 26, 1930 and they had four children. She then married Albert Goertzen at Henderson on Nov. 14, 1992. She was a member of the Bethesda Mennonite Church at Henderson and had been a member of the United Methodist Church at Fairmont. She worked as a volunteer at Fairview Manor, taught Bible school and belonged to the Women's Club. She was active in her respective communities and was an avid card player and enjoyed gardening. Survivors include her children; Pastor Frank (Betty) Schneider of Grand Island, Larry Schneider of Fairmont, Clifford (Glenna) Schneider of Glendale, Ariz. and Carol (Dr. Jack) Moomey of Evans, Ga.; nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren; her sister-in-law Viola Miller of Omaha; stepson Larry (Judy) Goertzen of Salina, Kan.; stepdaughter Virginia (Leon) Guhr of Mound Ridge, Kan; eight step-grandchildren. Ruth George
Ruth George, 85, of Hampton, died Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2006 at Wedgewood Care Center in Grand Island. Funeral services were Friday, Nov. 24 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hampton with Rev. Loren Cooper officiating. Burial was in Salem Cemetery. Ruth Evelyn George, daughter of W.C. and Anna (Bamesberger) Troester, was born Aug. 9, 1921 on the family farm near Hampton. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Hampton High School. She went on to take normal training to become a school teacher. She enjoyed the years she taught in a one-room schoolhouse. She married Edmond E. George on June 4, 1944 at Salem Lutheran Church near Hampton. They lived on his parents' farm for four years before moving to their farm in 1948. During this time she was a busy farm wife and mother. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary before he died June 6, 2004. She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Ruth Circle, L&M Extension Club and Hamilton Manor Auxiliary. She taught Sunday school many years and helped with many parochial school program preparations. She was an excellent cook, gardener and seamstress. She enjoyed entertaining those who came to her house, especially nieces and nephews. She loved being a grandmother and great-grandmother. Survivors include one son, Art (Carole) George of Hampton; three daughters, Kathryn George of Hampton, Evelyn (Merlin) Ericksen of Hordville and Joyce George and her fiance DeLayne Peck of Lincoln; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, Lisa George, Adriana George, Lindsey (Darrel) Pohlmeier and their son Ryken, Nicole Heiden and her son Bailey, Andy Heiden, Jacob Ericksen, Levi Ericksen, Natalie Ericksen, Pat Hamburger, Mike Hamburger, Chris Hamburger; three brothers, Donald (Norma) Troester of Aurora, Kenneth (Gretchen) Troester of Hampton and Gerald (Beverly) Troester of Chesterfield, Mo.; many nieces and nephews. Bernice Friesen
Bernice Elizabeth Friesen, 86 of Henderson, died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2006 at Henderson. Graveside services will be held at 9:45 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 29 in the Bethesda Cemetery near Henderson. Memorial services will follow at 10:30 a.m. at the Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson with the Rev. Weldon Martens and Rev. George Kaufman officiating. Mrs. Friesen was born near Hampton on Jan. 12, 1920 to Isaac J. and Elizabeth (Peters) Doell. She married Ben M. Friesen on Aug. 1, 1940 in Henderson. She was a member of the Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson and Mission Circle #1. She enjoyed fishing, cooking and sewing. Survivors include one son Byron (Teresa) Friesen of Henderson; four daughters, Berdean (Roy) Swanson of Lincoln, Brenda (LaRoy) Hiebner of Henderson, Barbara (Bill) Graham of Aurora, Beverly (Burton) Peters of Henderson; 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; one brother Milton (Selma) of Las Vegas, Nev. Norman Erickson
Norman R. Erickson, 72, of Polk died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2006 at Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg. Funeral services were Tuesday, Nov. 28 at the Mamre Evangelical Free Church with Rev. Gilbert Larsen officiating. Burial was in the Mamre Cemetery. Mr. Erickson was born Jan. 5, 1934 in Thurston County to Edoff and Ruth (Swanson) Erickson. He received his education and graduated from Marquette High School in 1953. He entered the United States Naval Air on Jan. 15, 1956 and was honorably discharged on Dec. 14, 1961. He was employed by the Lincoln Public School system for 33-1/2 years as a mechanical engineer. He was a member of the Mamre Church, serving on the church board and also as the Sunday school treasurer. He enjoyed collecting advertising pens and pencils and was a member of #1052 American Pencil Collectors Society. Survivors include a brother, Edward (Phyllis) Erickson of Central City; one sister, Evelyn Erickson of Central City; one aunt, Edith Erickson of Wakefield; two nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Donald Erickson. Leonard Tucker
Leonard Tucker, 93, of Aurora, died Saturday, Nov. 25, 2006 at Memorial Community Care in Aurora. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 28 at Pleasant View Bible Church in Aurora with Rev. Rick Prettyman and Rev. Paul Nauman officiating. Burial was in the Aurora Cemetery. Leonard Elvin Tucker, son of Fredrick Elvin and Mabel Pearl (Bayne) Tucker, was born Aug. 26, 1913 near Stockham. He moved with his parents to Loup City in 1916. In 1919 they moved to a farm northeast of Giltner. In 1923 they moved northwest of Giltner and in 1926 they moved back three miles west of Stockham. He attended school in Hamilton County. He married Ruth Mabel Eckerson Dec. 29, 1939 in York. They lived on the farm south of Aurora until 1964 when they moved to an acreage on the south edge of Aurora. He farmed all his life. In later years he worked at the Cornhusker Ammunition Depot in Grand Island and for the School District 4R in several capacities for about 30 years. He and his wife, Ruth, did volunteer work at the Rio Grande Bible Institute for 12 years. He retired at the age of 87. He attended Prairie Gem Church, Giltner Methodist Church, Stockham Bible Church and was a member of Pleasant View Bible Church at the time of his death where he enjoyed studying the Bible and his Sunday school class. He was a past member of the Hamilton County Farm Bureau. He also was a member of the Nebraska Hikers and Campers Association and he and his wife served as king and queen of the Nebraska Chapter. They represented Nebraska at the nationals in Florida. Survivors include three daughters, Peggy Ruth (Dwaine) Friesen of Henderson, Shirley Marlene (Larry) Wrightsman of York, Kathy Jo (Randy) Veleba of Saronville; one son, Charles Kent (Laura) Tucker of Aurora; 10 grandchildren, Sonja (Stephen) Ginger and their son David, Travis (Pam) Friesen, Kendra (Preston) Switzer and their son Hendric, Ginger Wrightsman, Rusty (Pam) Wrightsman, Megan, Jessica and Libby Tucker, Chelsea and Micah Veleba; two foreign exchange grandchildren, Volker (Chandra) Olbrich of Omaha and their sons Blake and Kai and Olaf Olbrich of Germany. Marie Finnigsmier
Marie Anna Finnigsmier, 89, Sheboygan, Wisc., wife of former Hampton pastor Earl Finnigsmier, died Monday Nov. 20, 2006. Funeral services were Saturday, Nov. 25 at Christ Lutheran Church in Juniata, with Rev. Gregory Volzke officiating. Burial was in Concordia Lutheran Cemetery in Juniata. Memorial services will also take place in Sheboygan on Wednesday, Nov. 29 at 7 p.m. at Novak-Ramm-Ziegler Funeral Home with Rev. Alan Kretschmar of St. Paul's Lutheran Church officiating. Visitation is at the funeral home, 1535 S. 12th St., from 6 p.m. until the time of services. She was born July 8, 1917 to Gustav and Augusta (Berendt) Hermann in Kenesaw. She attended Lutheran grade school. On April 16, 1939 she married Rev. Earl Finnigsmier at Christ Lutheran, Juniata with Rev. Victor Hoffmann officiating. She and her husband worked in the following parishes: Centennial Lutheran Church, Superior, 1937-1942; Zion Lutheran Church, Red Cloud, 1939-1942 ; Trinity Lutheran Church in Malcolm, 1942-1949 and St. Paul Lutheran in Malcolm, 1945-1949; Zion Lutheran Church, Grant, 1950-1956; Zion Lutheran Church, Hampton, 1956-1969; and until his retirement at Bethlehem Lutheran Church 1969-1976, Sheboygan, Wisc. She was unable to complete her high school training because she was needed to help work on the family farm. However, while her daughter, Earlene, attended college, she took a correspondence course and graduated with straight As and a high school diploma. When something needed to be done, she learned how to do it. When one of the parishes needed an organist, she took piano lessons and played the organ for Sunday services. She taught Sunday school, vacation Bible school, directed children's choirs, led Bible classes, taught herself to type, sewed choir robes for the children's choir, organized children's Christmas programs, raised a big garden with her husband and canned many jars of fruits and vegetables, was a seamstress and sewed most of her own and young daughter's wardrobes. She was active in and held many offices in Ladies Aid, church choirs, Altar guilds, Extension clubs, couples clubs, and held local and zone offices in the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. She was presently a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheboygan, Wisc. Survivors include her daughter, Earlene Zastow; one grandson, Gregory (Lynn) Zastrow and four great-grandchildren, all of Sheboygan; one sister, Wauneta Kroll, of Hastings; two brothers, Bob (Dora) Hermann and Ted (Jean) Hermann, both of Juniata; one sister-in-law, Esther Finnigsmier, of Georgetown, Texas; many nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Earl Finnigsmier; her son-in-law, Harold Zastrow; her sister, Esther Burr. A memorial fund has been established in her name and may be directed to the Sheboygan County Lutheran Chaplaincy Program.

Mollie Mankin
Former Giltner resident Mollie Mankin, 88, of Tulsa, Okla., died Sunday morning, Nov. 26, 2006 at Wildwood Care Center in Tulsa. Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 1 at 2 p.m. in the United Methodist Church in Giltner with Rev. Marta Wheeler and Rev. Paul Nauman officiating. Burial will be in the Giltner Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. Mollie J. Mankin, daughter of Jacob and Margaret (Bauer) Michel, was born June 23, 1918 in Sedgwick, Colo. where she received her education. She moved to Nebraska with her parents in 1937. She married James E. Williams May 6, 1939 in Wood River. He died Feb. 15, 1945 in France during World War II. She married Wilbur R. "Pete" Mankin on April 4, 1951 in Bellevue. They lived on a farm near Giltner after their marriage. She was a cook for the Giltner schools for five years. Her husband died Sept. 30, 1999. She was a member of the Giltner United Methodist Church where she was active in various church and community activities. Survivors include one son, Gary (Verla) Williams of Edinburg, Texas; one daughter, Sharon (Gilbert) Schmidt of Jenks, Okla.; eight grandchildren, Kevin (Tracy) Williams of Giltner, Todd (Marilyn) Williams of Doniphan, Craig (Lori) Williams of Seward, Rick (Shelly) Williams of Lincoln, Robert (Lisa) Schmidt of Jackson, Tenn., Candace (David) Gaede of Springfield, Mo., Kim (Mike) Armstrong of Bristow, Okla. and Christina (Jeremy) Burrell of Riverside, Calif.; 24 great-grandchildren. Isabel E. Van Norman
Isabel E. Van Norman, 76, of Sterling, Colo., sister of Aurora resident Lucile Omel, died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2006 in Denver. Funeral services are Friday, Dec. 1 at 10:30 a.m. at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home with Rev. Derek Detoni-Hill officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. She was born Aug. 19, 1930 to Raymond D. and Marie B. (Heimbegner) Van Norman. She graduated from Sterling High School in 1949. She was a bank teller at the Bank of Colorado. She was a member of the Methodist faith and belonged to Royal Neighbors. Survivors include two sisters, Lucile W. (Jerry) Omel of Aurora and Louise M. (Ron) Castor of Palmer, Ala.; and one nephew. Memorials are directed to Logan Humane Society, American Red Cross or American Cancer Society.

Carl 'Tom' Hageman
Former Aurora resident Carl "Tom" Hageman, 68, of Reading, Pa., died Monday, Nov. 13, 2006. At his request, he was cremated. Inurnment was in Reading, Pa. No services were held. Mr. Hageman was born Oct. 31, 1938 to Aleen and A.W. Hageman in Aurora. Survivors include his five children, Sherry, Lydia, Michelle, Eugene and Echo; two sisters, Jackie Bowers of Seward, and Ardith (Jim) Reichardt of Hampton; grandchildren, nieces, nephews and one cousin.

Jerry Cline
Former Polk resident Gerald "Jerry" Dean Cline, 66, of Central City, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2007, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. Funeral services will be Thursday, Feb. 1 at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Central City with Ellen Campbell officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, Jan. 31 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Solt Funeral Home in Central City. Burial will be in the Central City Cemetery. He was born Jan. 11, 1941, in Aurora to Vernon A. and Neta M. (Lantzer) Cline. He grew up in Alliance and attended school there through his freshman year in high school. In 1956, the family moved to Polk and he graduated from Polk High School in 1959. On Nov. 24, 1959, he entered the United States Navy and was honorably discharged on Nov. 20, 1963. He married Jacquelyn D. "Jackie" Cramer on June 10, 1962 at the United Methodist Church in Polk. After he was discharged from the military, they returned to Nebraska to live in Central City where he worked for McIlnay, Inc. until 1973 when he went on his own. He owned and operated Cline Heating and Air Conditioning until his retirement in 2003. He then returned to work at McIlnay's and was still working there at the time of his death. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Central City, American Legion Post 6 in Central City, Eagle's Club and had been a volunteer fireman for over 25 years. He enjoyed gardening, woodcrafting, barbecuing, making jerky, playing pool with his kids and grandkids and entertaining. Survivors include his wife, Jackie of Central City; his son, Jon (Sara) Cline of Central City; his daughter, Susan Sindt and friend Steve Kyes of Kearney; one brother, Bob Cline of Central City; one sister, Donna (Ron) Ellison of Gresham; five grandchildren, Tyrell Cline, Jordan Cline, Joshua Cline, Rachel Sindt and Sophia Cline.
