Caroline Nydegger
Caroline Nydegger, 92, of Aurora, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2005 at Memorial Community Care in Aurora.
Funeral services were held Tuesday morning, Feb. 22 in the chapel of Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora with Rev. Seth Leypoldt officiating. Burial was in the Aurora Cemetery.

Caroline Jemison Nydegger, daughter of Charles and Martha (Sharp) Jemison, was born Nov. 8, 1912 at Giltner where she grew up and graduated from Giltner High School. She graduated from Morningside College in Iowa in 1957 and received her masters degree from Columbia University in 1962.
She married LeRoy Banks Nydegger Jan. 27, 1938 at her parents' home near Aurora. They lived in Ft. Dodge and Sheldon, Iowa and then moved to Sioux City, Iowa where he was a college professor at Morningside College. She worked in a photo studio during this time.
In 1957 they moved to Manlius, N.Y. where he attended graduate school at Syracuse University and became a professor at State University of New York at New Paltz and she taught special education. They lived in New York after their retirement in 1976 and in 1996 they moved to Aurora.
She had a deep interest in gardening.
Survivors include her son, Daniel (Janet) Nydegger of Auburn, Wash.; four grandchildren, Carolee (Darren) Perry of Tulahoma, Tenn., Andrew (Michelle ) Smith of Rengold, Ga., Holly (Chad) Fleckner of Auburn, Wash. and David (Andee) Nydegger of Tacoma, Wash.; three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and daughter, Jean Smith; three sisters, Jean Jemison, Agnes Schrock and Inez Wright; two brothers, LeRoy and Earl Jemison.
Merle Thomsen
Merle A. Thomsen, 80, of St. Paul, father of Aurora resident Kathy Davis, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2005 at Howard County Community Hospital in St. Paul.
Funeral services were Monday, Feb. 21 at the First Presbyterian Church in St. Paul with Rev. Revel Loedy officiating. Burial was in South Logan Cemetery, St. Paul.
Merle A. Thomsen, son of Andrew and Ruth (Anderson) Thomsen, was born Nov. 10, 1924 in Howard County. He was raised north of St. Paul and attended rural school District 42 and then graduated from District 21. He farmed for neighbors and also worked on threshing crews.
He married Geraldine Dickey Oct. 18, 1953 in Grand Island. They lived north of St. Paul where they farmed all of their lives. He raised turkeys, several breeds of chickens, banty roosters and peacocks. He worked in conservation, raising and releasing pheasants. He loved dogs, raising shelties and shihtzu and he especially loved border collies.
He was active in 4-H, serving as a livestock superintendent at the county fair. He received an Honorary Chapter Farmer Award. He was an agent and adjuster for Nysted Farmers Insurance Co. and was treasurer and member of the District 21 School Board for over 25 years. He was an advocate of small schools.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and being with his grandchildren. He and his wife loved to dance. He also enjoyed playing cards.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of St. Paul and St. Paul Masonic Lodge #82 AF&AM
Survivors include two sons, Randy (Carol) Thomsen of St. Paul and Marlon Thomsen of St. Paul; two daughters, Kathy (Greg) Davis of Aurora and Cindy (Brent) Bergstrom of Wilcox; nine grandchildren, Jessica Davis, Eric thomsen, Anthony Davis, Breanna Thomsen, Ryan Bergstrom, Amanda Bergstrom, Amanda Davis, Chad Bergstrom and Emily Bergstrom; one brother, Lyle (Lory) Thomsen of St. Paul; his mother-in-law, Esther Dickey of St. Paul and a friend, Irene Kezeor of St. Paul.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and father-in-law, Robert Dickey.
Micheal G. Schefcik
Micheal G. Schefcik, 43, of Aurora, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2005 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Aurora.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, February 25, at at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Alliance Father Bryan Ernest officiated. Burial was in the Alliance Cemetery.

Mr. Schefcik was born March 8, 1961 at Alliance to George Norris and Kathryn Deloris (Todd) Schefcik.
He graduated from Alliance High School in 1979. On Nov. 9, 1979 he married Jana K. Weed.
He was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, the 385 Cruisers Car Club and formerly served on the Alliance Public Schools Board of Education. He had a lifetime passion for motorcycles and enjoyed enduro riding as well as touring in the Black Hills area. He also enjoyed woodworking, carpentry, pheasant hunting and was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker and Pittsburgh Steeler football fan. He especially enjoyed working on the family farm and in the agriculture industry, which allowed him to meet many friends.
He is survived by his wife, Jana Schefcik of Aurora; his daughters, Megan Schefcik of Chadron and Maloree (Josh) Johnson of Aurora; one granddaughter, Madelynn Johnson of Aurora; three brother, Martin (Sandra) Schefcik of Pickens, S.C. and Mitchell (Michelle) Schefcik of Omaha; a brother, Morris Schefcik of Indianapolis, Ind.; mother-in-law, Leona Weed of Alliance; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Richard Larson
Richard Larson, 52, of Marquette, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2005 in St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Lincoln.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 2 in the chapel of Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. Rev. Brian Kottas will officiate. Burial will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary.

Richard Allen Larson, son of Ronald Ormand Fowler and Alice Louella Sims, was born Dec. 31, 1952 in Aurora. He later was adopted by Irl Eckert Larson in 1955.
He grew up near Marquette and attended Marquette Consolidated Schools. He obtained his GED in 1998. He lived most of his life in Marquette.
Survivors include his son, Joseph Allen Glandt of Grand Island; one sister, Terry (Steve) Davis of Roca; nieces, nephews and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
Kathleen Willcock
Former Aurora resident Kathleen Willcock, 95, of Springfield, Ore., died Friday, Feb. 25, 2004.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 3 at Lane Memorial Funeral Home in Springfield. Burial will be in Lane Memorial Gardens.
Kathleen Emma Willcock, daughter of Joe and Elsie (Tucker) Piggott, was born Dec. 15, 1909 in Aurora.
She married Albert Willcock in Aurora on Dec. 3, 1929.
Until 1985, she did seamstress work, creating drapes at Marvin Fuller for Sears. She retired from Eugene Fruit Growers.
She enjoyed doll collecting and making clothes for her doll collection. She loved working in her flower garden and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was a past member of the Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Dean L. Willcock of Springfield, Ore. and Duane 'Dewey' Willcock of Eugene, Ore.; one brother, Joe Piggott of Alabama and one sister, Sylvia Miller of Aurora; two grandsons, one great-granddaughter and two great-great-grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Garrison Moody
Garrison James Moody, infant son of Gary and Shauna Moody of Aurora, was born at rest, Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005 at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 2 in Monroe Evangelical Free Church near Murphy with Rev. Mark Dunham and Rev. Rick Prettyman officiating. Burial will be in the Scotia Cemetery.

Max Edward Williams, 93, of Cole Camp, formerly of Aurora, Nebraska, died Wednesday, May 18, 2005, at Good Samaritan Care Center, Cole Camp., Mo.
Funeral services were held Sunday, May 22 at Murray Funeral Home, Humansville with the Rev. Virgil Kearney officiating. Burial was in Humansville Cemetery, Humansville, Mo.

Max Edward Williams, son of Edward and Jeannie (Woolrey) Williams, was born July 22, 1911 at Aurora.
In 1932, he married Eleanor Lorraine George, who preceded him in death on Dec. 28, 1989. In 1990, he married Edna Faith.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Humansville. He worked at the Aurora News Register in Aurora. In 1951, he purchased the Humansville Star Leader in Humansville, Mo. which he owned and operated until 1976. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and was fire chief for the Volunteer Fire Department in Aurora. He served as president of the Ozark Press Association.
He enjoyed working, playing golf, listening to music, watching sports, and reading. He loved to play games, especially card games and dominoes.
Survived include one daughter, Eleanor (Kenneth) Kearney of Rogers, Ark.; two sons, George (Wilma) Williams of Cole Camp and Charles (Joy) Williams of Pasadena, Calif.; two sisters, Evelyn Sullivan of Long Beach, Calif., and Merle Morrison of Redding, Calif.; nine grandchildren, Cindy Vadala, Bruce Williams, Steve Williams, Jeff Williams, Carl Williams, Susan 'Nan' Howell, Scott Kearney, Debbie Allard, and Gary Kearney; and 10 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Vera Post and Irene Miller; and two brothers, Harry Williams and Dick Williams.

Dean Link, 75, of Aurora, died Wednesday, May 18, 2005 at h is home.

Paul Dean Link was born Oct. 27, 1929 in Taylor County, Iowa.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He married Edna Juett Nov. 26, 1958 in Pacific Junction, Iowa. They lived in Council Bluffs until 1959 when they moved to Cedar Falls, Iowa. They lived there until July of 1967 when they moved to Aurora. His wife died Feb. 17, 1970.
He worked as a dairy farmer for the Steenburg family and then did subcontracting work moving dirt and snow with his bobcat.
He married Dorothy Sweem Dec. 9, 1970 in Aurora where they lived until she died Sept. 25, 1978.
He married Ardis Luck in Kansas on May 23, 1982. They lived in Marquette before moving to Aurora. In recent years he worked for Tom Cornwell Auctioneers.
Survivors include his wife, Ardis of Aurora; two stepchildren, Frank Rumsey of St. Petersburg, Fla. and Anna Prorok of Shelby, Iowa; other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two wives.
Harold H. Ramsour
Harold H. Ramsour, 63, of Omaha, father of Aurora resident Bruce Ramsour, died May 18, 2005 in Omaha.
Funeral services were Tuesday, May 24 at St. James Catholic Church in Omaha. Military honors were by V.F.W. Post 2503.
Memorials are directed to the American Red Cross or American Cancer Society.
He was born Aug. 27, 1922 in Geary County, Kan.
He served in the U.S. Marines during World War II and Korea.
He was a member of 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, Challice Club, Legion of Mary and was a long time Boy Scout leader, Red Cross volunteer and 27 year employee of Standard Oil.
Survivors include three sons, Mark (Ann) Ramsour of Tucson, Ariz., Bruce (Kathy) Ramsour of Aurora, Paul Ramsour of Nashville, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Melissa and Stephanie Ramsour; one sister, Helen Cubit of Garnett, Kan.; two brothers, Walter (Doris) Ramsour of Wichita, Kan. and John Ramsour of Garnett, Kan.; numerous nieces and nephews.
Bob Humrich Sr. and Ruth (Rains) Humrich
Bob Humrich, Sr., 90, of Grand Island, died Jan. 7, 2005 at the Grand Island Veterans Home.
Ruth 'Ruthie' Humrich, 77, died March 22, 1944 in Longview, Wash.
A joint memorial graveside service and burial of cremains for them both, as well as his sister, Viva Preston, will be held Friday, May 25 at the Phillips Cemetery.
Mr. Hunrich was born Nov. 22, 1914 in Aurora to Grant and Olive (Whitaker) Hunrich. He attended school in Aurora.
As a teenager he traveled to Idaho and worked on ranches. Later he worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps for a blacksmith and as a cook.
He was a construction carpenter in the south and worked on the large dam at Sardis, Miss. He later worked in Virginia. He also worked at the Hastings Ammunition Plant as a carpenter while the family lived in Aurora.
He went into the U.S. Army in March, 1944 and trained at Ft. Roberts, Calif. He went overseas where he joined the 16th Regiment, 1st Infantry Division and fought in the Hurtgen Forest and the Battle of the Bulge during the winter of 1944-45. After his discharge, he returned to Aurora where he bought his first racehorse, Ever Loyal. He raced and trained horses in Nebraska, Colorado, Chicago, St. Louis and Phoenix. He retired in Arizona in the mid-80s and later moved to Longview, Wash. to be near their daughter, Ruth Ann.
After his wife's death, he moved to Utah here his granddaughter cared for him in his home. In 2003 he moved to Doniphan to be close to his son.
Mrs. Humrich was born Sept. 19, 1916 in Wolbach to Ed and Dorcas Rains. She lived in the Giltner area and graduated from Giltner High School. She later attended beauty college.
She enjoyed her family and was a very loyal Nebraska football fan.
Survivors include their son, Bob (Linda) Hunrich Jr. of Doniphan; daughter Ruth Ann Zeilenga of Longview, Wash.; eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild; her three sisters, Alice, Edith and Mable.
Caroll B. Holmes
Carroll B. Holmes, 79, of Central City, died Monday, May 30, 2005, on his 79th birthday, at Litzenberg Long Term Care in Central City.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 2, 2005 at 10 a.m. at Wagner Funeral Home in Central City with grandson's Josh Erickson and Russ Morris offering words of comfort. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 1, from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date.
Carroll B. Holmes was born May 30, 1926 to Erick B. and Anna Judith (Chader) Holmes at his home in Hordville. He grew up and received his education there, graduating from Hordville High School in 1943.
He entered the United States Navy Aug. 26, 1944 and served during World War II. He served on the aircraft carrier Intrepid as a radioman. He was honorably discharged March 11, 1946.
He was united in marriage to Marie Haskins on April 5, 1948. The couple lived in various places in Central City, Ord, O'Neill, Kearney, and then back to Central City. He was employed by J.M. McDonalds and later at Redman's Shoes.
He was a member of the Methodist Church in Hordville, Riverside Golf Club, Valley View Country Club, Legion Post No. 6, V.F.W. of Grand Island, and the Eagles Club of Grand Island.
Survivors include three daughters and son-in-laws, Linda and Gerald Jones of Central City; Pam and John Garman of Hastings; and Cindy Leth of Hastings; his former wife, Marie Hoppner of Grand Island; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; sisters Effie Torpin of Central City; Josephine McConnell of Central City; twin sister Caroly Mieske of Colorado, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister-in-law, Lee and Margaret (Vergo) Holmes, and sister and brother-in-law, Annette and Tony Abbott, and Francis McConnell, a niece, Janise Miescke and nephew Mark Miescke.
Neal 'LaVern' Hartford
Neal 'LaVern' Hartford, 78, of Central City, died Friday, May 27, 2005, at Central City Care Center.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 1, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at Wagner Funeral Home in Central City, with Reverend Eldon Elsberry officiating. Visitation is Tuesday, May 31 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Central City Cemetery.

LaVern Hartford was born May 27, 1927 to Neal and Agnes (Fay) Hartford in Palmer. He grew up in rural Central City and received his education at District #19, and then graduated from Central City High School. He joined the United States Army on Jan. 10, 1951, serving during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in November of 1952.
He was united in marriage to Alice Foulk on Jan. 11, 1953. He was married to Shirley Randall on Dec. 31, 1972. LaVern and Shirley lived on the family farm north of Central City. He was later employed by the City of Central City, W.R. Grace, Walnut Grove, and Central City Public Schools as a bus driver.
He was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church, and later the Evangelical Free Church. He was a member of the American Legion Post #6 and the Merrick County Saddle Club. He was an avid horseman.
Survivors include his wife Shirley of Central City; three daughters, Cathy Richardson of Kearney, Diane Bengston of Omaha, Deb Hartford of Lincoln; one step-daughter, Susan (Brent) Kennedy of Central City; one son, Kenneth Hartford of Grand Island; one step-son, Mike (Tara) Randall of Los Angeles, Calif; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, and one step-great-grandson.

Harold and Mabel Meerkatz
Graveside memorial services for Harold and Mabel Meerkatz will be held June 4, 11 a.m. at the Salem (Troester) Cemetery. The cemetery is located four miles east of Aurora on Hwy. 34, turn south on U Road for 3 1/2 miles, cemetery is located on left side of the road.
Bo Hain
Bohumil 'Bo' Hain, age 88, of Aurora died Monday morning, Aug. 8, 2005, at Memorial Hospital in Aurora.
Funeral services were help Thursday, Aug. 11 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Aurora with Mgsr. Raymond Hain and Father Dennis Hunt officiating. Interment was in the Aurora Catholic Cemetery.
Bohumil Joseph Hain, the son of John and Mary (Kolar) Hain, was born in Garland on Jan. 10, 1917. He attended Brainard Catholic Schools.
He grew up farming in Seward and Butler County areas. When he was 17, his father died and he took over the family farm, where he helped to raise his younger three brothers and two sisters.
He married Henrietta Kobza on June 6, 1944 in Dwight. They moved to their farm near Aurora in 1958. He left farming to go into carpentry work in 1968. He began his maintenance job for Aurora schools system in 1979. In 1982, he went to work for Hamilton Manor in the maintenance department. He retired in 1999 after 17 years of service.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed his woodworking and helping others. He loved raising exotic pheasants, Angoria and Boer goats, as well as gardening his vegetables and flowers. He especially loved his family and the time he spent with them.
He is survived by his wife, Henrietta of Aurora; three sons, Bob (Mori) Hain of Pueblo, Colo., Dan (JoAnn) Hain of Aurora and Ken (Peggy) Hain of Lincoln; two daughters, Kathy (Tom) Launer of Lincoln and Donna (Jerry) Cronin of Pleasant Prairie, Wisc.; 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Roy Holloway
Roy Holloway, 92, of Aurora, died Saturday, Aug. 13, 2005 at Memorial Community Care in Aurora.
Funeral services were Tuesday morning, Aug. 16 at the United Methodist Church in Aurora with Rev. Richard Karohl officiating. Burial was in the Aurora Cemetery.
Roy Wilber Holloway, son of William Orville and Emma Caroline (Hansen) Holloway, was born Oct. 6, 1912 on the family farm west of Aurora. He grew up on the family farm and attended country school through the eighth grade.
He married Valetta Grace Marvel Feb. 14, 1934 in Central City. They farmed south of Aurora for many years and moved to Aurora in 1974. She died July 18, 1992.
He was a member of the Aurora United Methodist Church and belonged to A.A.R.P. He was a 4-H leader for many years, member of the school board and Farm Bureau and served as a County Committee Person. In 1984 he received the annual Hamilton County Pork Producers Award. He did carpentry work and made toys and gifts for family members.
Survivors include his five children, Myrtle (Melvin) Hinrichs of Omaha, William (Betty) Holloway of Grand Island, Robert (Karen) Holloway of Aurora, Wilbur (Joyce) Holloway of Alma and Maime (Jerry) Salmon of Geneva; 21 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Mae Sawyer of Grand Island, two sisters-in-law, Darlene Holloway of Aurora and Margurite Holloway of Lancaster, Calif.; a special friend, Thelma Salmon and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one grandson, Todd Holloway; two brothers, Maurice and Russell and a sister, Eunice Barber.

Wanda J. Johnson
Former Aurora resident Wanda J. (Buller) Johnson, 47, of Geneva, died Aug. 6, 2005 at Bryan LGH West Hospital in Lincoln.
Funeral services were Thursday, Aug. 11 at Farmer & Son Funeral Home in Geneva with Rev. Wilton Detweiler officiating. Burial was in the Geneva Cemetery. Memorials are directed to the family.
Wanda J. (Buller) Johnson was born Oct. 29, 1957 to Jacob H. and Sophia (Quiring) Buller in Grand Island.
She grew up on the farm in the Aurora and Bradshaw areas. She attended Aurora Public Schools through the eighth grade and graduated from Bradshaw High School in 1976. She graduated from Colorado Institute of Art in Denver, Colo. in 1979. She also graduated from Central Community College in Hastings as a licensed practical nurse.
She was a lifelong member of Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson.
She married Lowell R. Johnson March 5, 1982 at Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson. They lived in Fillmore County.
She loved living on the farm and being with her family. She loved animals, especially horses, and liked being outside and working with her flowers. She also enjoyed vacations with her family, working in the nursing profession, painting and drawing.
Survivors include her husband, Lowell; three children, Eric (Jessie) Johnson, Justin Johnson and Ross Johnson, all of Geneva; her mother, Sophia Buller of Henderson; brothers and sisters, Marvin (Pat) Buller of Henderson, Darlene Powell of St. Paul, Dianne Buller of Henderson, Ardell Buller of Sutton; Kristi (Curt) Jensen of Henderson, Paul (RaNee) Buller of York; her mother-in-law, Sylvia Johnson of Geneva; brother-in-law, Hubert (Frances) Johnson of Geneva; sister-in-law, Linda (Lou) Schafer of Tobias; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jacob H. Buller; her father-in-law, Russell Klingenberg; her grandparents, aunts and uncles.

Former Aurora resident Dr. John Haworth, 86, of El Centro, Calif., died Wednesday, Augh. 17, 2005.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Aug. 26 at 10:30 a.m. in the United Methodist Church in Aurora with Rev. James Corson officiating. Burial will be in the Aurora Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

John Embree Haworth, M.D., son of Glenn R. and Eva (Embree) Haworth, was born March 20, 1918 in Aurora. He graduated from Aurora High School in 1936 and was student body president. He attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where he belonged to Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. He graduated Dec. 18, 1943 from the University of Nebraska College of Medicine in Omaha where he was a member of Sigma Nu Medical Fraternity.
He served in the Army from June 15, 1943 to Dec. 2, 1946 when he was discharged as captain. While he was stationed at ASU Station Hospital Camp Kilmer, N.J, he served as the medical doctor checking U.S. troops as they went overseas. He received the American Campaign Medal and the World War Victory Medal.
He served his internship at Hurley Hospital in Flint, Mich. and his residency at the French Hospital in San Francisco, Calif. between 1947 and 1948. His surgical rotation was done at Huron Road Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio in 1949.
He arrived at El Centro, Calif. Dec. 24, 1950 where he joined the Desert Medical Group and later established a large medical practice which lasted 37 years. He retired in June of 1987.
He received the 'Good Guys' Award in 1989 from the San Diego and Imperial counties chapter of the Lukemia Society of America, Inc. In 2001 he received the Imperial County Medical Society Award, giving him recognition for his 37 years of service to the society and to the health care of the people in Imperial County.
Survivors include his wife, Catalina Medina Haworth; one daughter, Francine Monique Haworth of San Diego, Calif; one stepson, Rudolph C. Moreno of Calexico, Calif.; one aunt, five cousins; one brother, Larry (Mercedes) Toombs of Las Vegas, Nev. and numerous other relatives and five step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his stepson, Ruben A. Moreno in 2001, his first wife, Maxine Haworth in 1997; his mother, Eva E. Haworth in 1993 and his mother-in-law, Achie Shepard in 1993.
