Lonny Grashorn
WAYNE - Lonny Gene Grashorn, 33, of Emerson died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 1999, in Emerson.
Services are 10 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Wayne with the Rev. Doug Shelton officiating. Burial is in Pleasantview Cemetery in Winside.
Visitation is 8:30 a.m. until service time Monday at the church. The casket will remain closed.
Mr. Grashorn was born July 22, 1966, in Wakefield to Albert and Donna (Reibold) Grashorn. He attended school in Wayne.
He married Cathy Ann Longe Dec. 2, 1983, in Yankton, S.D. The couple lived in Wayne, where he worked in manufacturing and construction for several years. He was employed by Cadwallader Industries in Emerson.
He was an avid fisherman, hunter, pool player and was a member of the Emerson Dart Players League.
Survivors include one son, Dusty of Emerson; one daughter, Tanya of Emerson; his mother of Wayne; one brother, Larry (Patti) of Wayne; and two sisters, Lea (Kurt) Petersen of Columbus and Lori Anderson of Fremont.
He was preceded in death by his father, grandparents and one brother.

Emma Neben
LINCOLN - Emma Neben, 93, of Lincoln, formerly of Platte Center, died Thursday, Aug. 19, 1999.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Lincoln with the Rev. Clint Poppe officiating. Burial is 4 p.m. Monday at Greenwood Cemetery in Lexington.
Mrs. Neben was a retired registered nurse in Canada. She was a member of the church, the Quilting Circle and was a Tabitha volunteer. She and her late husband, the Rev. Edward Neben, had lived in Platte Center while he was pastor of Grace Lutheran Church.
Survivors include one son, Ronald (Sharon) of Fort Worth, Texas; four daughters, Carroll (George) Dinse of Oklahoma City, Arlene (Gordon) Waterman of Tomball, Texas, Marlene Dowell of Grapevine, Texas, and Judi (Les) Korte of Hallam; one sister, Alice Krause of Edmonton, Alberta; three sisters-in-law, Clara Kroeger, Margo Woitzel and Marcella; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two grandchildren, two sisters and eight brothers.
Memorials may be sent to the church's Gospel Mailers Program or the Haiti Lutheran Mission Society.
Herbert Pile
COLUMBUS - Herbert D. Pile, 75, 3151 Mimick Lane, died Thursday, Aug. 19, 1999, at his home.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Bonaventure Church in Columbus with the Rev. Dan Keller officiating. Burial is in All Saints Catholic Cemetery with military honors by Hartman Post 84 American Legion Honor Guard.
Visitation is 3-9 p.m. today and 8-10 a.m. Monday, all at McKown Funeral Home with a 7 p.m. vigil service.
Mr. Pile was born March 30, 1924, in West Point to Herbert E. and Mabel (Schaefer) Pile. He graduated from West Point High School.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as an aviation radioman from Aug. 20, 1942, to Jan. 10, 1946. He also served in the Army during the Korean Conflict from April 7, 1949, to June 20, 1952.
He married Marylin Ritter April 25, 1953, in West Point. The couple lived in Beatrice, Albion and Columbus.
He was a lineman for Consumers Public Power District and General Telephone Co. He retired as a storekeeper for General Telephone Co.
He was a member of the church, an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus Council 938, serving as a past Grand Knight, a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Pat Mausbach of Kansas City, Mo., Kathy (Tim) Michaelsen of Columbus and Ann (Jay) Lueke of Omaha; one son, Mike (Cindy) of Columbus; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Herman and Don; and one sister, Emily Schumacher.
Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society, Columbus Public Library or the St. Bonaventure Grade School Computer Fund.
Joseph Speicher
DAVID CITY - Joseph N. Speicher, 76, of David City died Friday, Aug. 20, 1999, at David Place in David City.
Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in David City with Msgr. Adrian Herbek officiating. Burial is in the parish cemetery with military honors by Kregger Post 125.
Visitation is 9 a.m. until after a 7:30 p.m. wake Monday, all at Roberts Funeral Home in David City.
Mr. Speicher was born Dec. 4, 1922, in rural David City to John B. and Julia (Medinger) Speicher. He attended East Olive Rural School.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving in the South Pacific from 1944-46.
He and his wife, Lois, were married April 11, 1951, in Bellwood. He farmed in Butler County, where he lived his entire life.
Survivors include his wife; one son, John (Suzanne) of David City; one daughter, Patricia (Richard) Sweney of David City; one brother, Harold (Lucille) of David City; two sisters, Lenora (Robert) Schindler of Salt Lake City and Rosalie (Ted) Reeder of Plano, Texas; five grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.

Helen Wright
FULLERTON - Helen C. Wright, 83, of Fullerton, formerly of Campbell, died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 1999, at Beverly Healthcare in Fullerton.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Beverly Healthcare with the Rev. Don Cleary officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Fullerton Cemetery.
Visitation is prior to the service time Monday.
Mrs. Wright was born Jan. 22, 1916, in Avala, Pa., to Martin and Mary Czyz. She attended Catholic school in the area.
She married John Wright and worked as a waitress. She entered Beverly Healthcare in January 1997.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Loraine Sjuts
HUMPHREY -- Loraine O. Sjuts, 80, of Humphrey died Sunday, Oct. 10, 1999, at Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Humphrey with the Rev. Brad Birtell officiating. Burial is at the City Cemetery in Humphrey.
Visitation is from 4-8:30 p.m. today at the Duesman Funeral Chapel in Humphrey. Visitation continues Wednesday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. with a 10:15 a.m. family prayer service at the church.
Mrs. Sjuts was born May 14, 1919, in rural Humphrey to Joseph and Ida (Kruse) Mueting. She attended Cornlea School and graduated from Humphrey High School.
She married Henry J. Sjuts Dec. 28, 1940, in Cornlea. She lived in rural Humphrey and moved to her current home at Humphrey in 1981. She was a homemaker and farmed with her husband until retirement. She enjoyed quilting and was a member of the church.
Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Karen (Jack) Nelson of Columbus, Marlene (Dave) Langan of Norfolk and Bonnie (Tom) DeLong of Gretna; two sons, Allan (Connie) of Hastings and Ron (Jeannette) of Humphrey; one sister, Odelia Thornton of Leavenworth, Kan.; one brother-in-law, Gilbert Melcher of Madison; 16 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, LaVern; four sisters, Marcella (Jack) Roddy, Elvira (Jerome) Pfeifer, Geraldine (Joseph) Preister, and Leota (Gilbert) Melcher; and three brothers, Joseph, Lawrence, and Lester Mueting.

Marvin Ripp
GRAND ISLAND -- Marvin L. Ripp, 87, of Grand Island, formerly of Platte Center, died Saturday, Sept. 25, 1999, at the Nebraska Veterans Home in Grand Island.
Services were held at St. Mary's Cathedral in Grand Island on Sept. 29. The Rev. Jose Chavez officiated. Burial was at the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Grand Island.
Mr. Ripp was born Nov. 16, 1911, in Platte Center to Fredinand H. and Josephine L. (Clother) Ripp. He attended elementary school in Sidney and Platte Center. He attended Boys Town, graduating in 1928. He enrolled in the printing trade school at Boys Town, completing his education in 1930.
Mr. Ripp worked as a pressman in the printing industry in Alliance, North Platte, Chicago, Denver, Stockton, Calif., and Grand Island.
He served as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army from Oct. 21, 1942-Nov. 7, 1945. He trained in Australia and served in the Philippines in the South Pacific theater of operations.
He married Sena Katherine Kjar on Sept. 22, 1951. He retired as a pressman from Ruby Printing in 1980. He moved into the Nebraska Veterans Home in June 1997.
He was a member of the church, the Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Alcoholics Anonymous since 1967 and the Boys Town Alumni. Mr. Ripp enjoyed watching sporting events.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Jerrine Brugh of York, Glenna Ritchie of Axtell and Rita Rene Kidder of Plymouth, Wis.; 10 grandchildren; one sister, Frances Gronenthal of Columbus; and one brother, Fred "Bud" of Penn Valley, Calif.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Inez Schilz and Thelma Ann, Bernadette, and Glendora; and two brothers, Vernon and Mahlon.
Memorials are suggested to the United Veteran Club of Grand Island, the Nebraska Veterans Home or the church.

Katherine Kroenke
COLUMBUS -- Katherine K. Kroenke, 98, 1305 Eighth St., died Sunday, Oct. 10, 1999, at Mory's Haven in Columbus.

Mrs. Kroenke was born March 4, 1901, in Posen, Poland, to Sam and Louise (Zamier) Jankiewicz. She came to the United States in June 1905 with her parents. They lived in Buffalo, N.Y., for a few years before moving to Nebraska. She attended Central City High School.
She married Leo J. Kroenke Feb. 16, 1926, in Central City. They farmed near Dodge until they retired in December 1951 when they moved to Columbus. Her husband died July 2, 1977.
She was a member of the church, Altar Society, Franciscan Missionary Union and St. Ann's Society.
Survivors include two daughters, Betty (Marvin) Kroenke-Boyle of York and Dorothy Kroenke-Muhleisen of Dallas; four sons, Robert (Mary Lou) of Fremont, Lee J. (Donna) of Santa Maria, Calif., Henry B. (Terri) of Bellevue and Tony F. (Trina) of Omaha; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Bernard, Frank, Kasimir, and Wencel Jankiewicz; two sisters, Theresa Jensen and Helen Kaipust; and one granddaughter.

Mary Morgan
ALBION -- Mary Jane Morgan, 75, of Albion died Sunday, Oct. 10, 1999, at Boone County Health Center in Albion.
Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at the United Church of Christ in Albion with the Revs. Mary Avidano and Rich Graff officiating. Burial is at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Albion.

Mrs. Morgan was born Feb. 10, 1924, in O'Neill to Oliver and Ruth (Lichty) Morgan. She graduated from O'Neill High School in 1942.
She married Fred Colfack in August 1942 in Taylor, Texas. They lived in Ewing and moved to Albion in 1953.
She attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and graduated in 1968 with a degree in elementary education. She taught at several Boone County schools including rural School Districts 78, 21, 44 and at the Cedar Rapids, Petersburg and Albion high schools. She retired from teaching in the mid-1980s. She then worked as an Electrolux vacuum cleaner distributor.
She was a member of the church and a member of the Nebraska Education Association.
Survivors include two sons, Brian (JoAnn) Colfack of Circleville, Ohio, and Chuck Colfack of Greeley; a daughter, Peggy (Bernard) Wilson of Norfolk; her special friend, Gordon Auten of Cedar Rapids; one sister, Thelma Hendrick of Omaha; five grandchildren; and numerous half brothers and sisters.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Richard.
Robert Geary Sr.
NORFOLK -- Robert E. Geary Sr., 72, of Leigh died Sunday, Oct. 10, 1999, at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk.
Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Stanton with the Rev. Earle Miller officiating. Graveside services will be at 12:30 p.m. at the Inman Cemetery.
Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. today at Home for Funerals in Norfolk.
Mr. Geary was born Feb. 23, 1927, in Inman to George and Velma (Turnbull) Geary. He graduated from Inman High School, then farmed near Inman, Ewing and Stanton prior to moving to Leigh.
He married Alice Funk May 20, 1953, at Inman. He was employed by Leigh By-Products Co. and then worked for the elderly. He also constructed model machinery and trucks. He was a member of the church.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Robert Jr. (Beverly) of Leigh; eight daughters, Sally Pulley, Mary (Larry) Balaski and Robin (Ronald) Kerr, all of Norfolk, Velma (Cecil) Brewster of San Antonio, Christy (Kevin) Heun of Weatherford, Texas, Rosalie Butts of Lincoln, Laura (Mark) Tech and Shelly Geary, all of Abilene, Kan.; two brothers, George of Amarillo, Texas, and Charles of Garland, Texas; one sister, Marlene Kiser of Inman; 14 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by one brother; and two sisters.

Velma Fischer
COLUMBUS -- Velma Jean Fischer, 71, of Columbus died Sunday, Oct. 10, 1999, at Columbus Community Hospital Inc.
Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at Sandoz's Chapel of the Pines in Valentine with the Rev. Carroll Plisek officiating. Burial is at Mount Hope Cemetery in Valentine.

Mrs. Fischer was born July 6, 1928, in Crawford to Fred E. and Beulah M. (Legate) Wigent. She graduated from high school in Ainsworth and then took nursing training to become a nurse's aide.
She married Harry C. Fischer on July 18, 1948, in Nebraska. She lived in Ainsworth. She worked as a nurse's aide there and in Chadron for almost 50 years. She was a past secretary of TOPS Club in Ainsworth and a member of the United Methodist Church there.
Survivors include two sons, Al and J.R. (Sandy), all of Columbus; one sister, Maralyn Miller of Eagle Rock, Mo.; two brothers, Robert Wigent of Ainsworth and Vernan Wigent of Firestone, Colo.; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Feb. 25, 1998; one sister, June Cozad; and her parents.

Jason Loseke
CREIGHTON -- Jason Lee Loseke, 18, of Creighton, formerly of Columbus, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at Columbus Community Hospital Inc. as a result of a car accident on U.S. Highway 81.
Services were today at the Brockhaus Funeral Home in Creighton with the Rev. Larry Pearson officiating. Burial is at Greenwood Cemetery in Creighton.
Jason was born April 5, 1981, in Columbus to Gary Mayhall and Wanda Loseke. He attended Creighton Community High School and Northeast Community College in Norfolk. He enjoyed life through his music, poems and drawings.
Survivors include his father of Osceola; his mother of Creighton; a brother, Joaquin Santos of Creighton; and his grandparents, Gale Loseke of Columbus, Sharon Bauman of Creighton, and Marjorie Mayhall of Osceola.
He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents.
Marjorie Frey
ALBION -- Marjorie Jean Frey, 76, of Albion died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at the Boone County Health Care Center in Albion.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Albion with the Rev. Edward Gill officiating. Burial is at the parish cemetery.
Visitation is from 3-5 p.m. today at the Levander Funeral Home in Albion and then at 6:30 p.m. at the church with a 7:30 p.m. wake service. Visitation continues Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at the church.
Mrs. Frey was born Oct. 13, 1923, in Cedar Rapids to Ed and Leda (Hackney) Nearhood. She received her elementary education at the Cedar Rapids Public Schools and graduated from Cedar Rapids High School in 1941. During high school, she worked at the Cedar Rapids Press newspaper office. Following graduation, she moved to Lincoln where she worked at Brown's Printing.
She married Walter Frey Aug. 25, 1947, in Cedar Rapids. They lived and farmed west of Albion until moving to Albion in 1991. She was a member of the church, worked as a volunteer at St. Michael's school library, and was a member of the Altar Society. She was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and served on the election board. She was the first woman to serve on the Boone County Committee of the Farmer's Home Administration Board. She served on the board for several years.
Survivors include her husband; four sons, Donald (Sandra), Mike (Ellen), James (Joleen) and John (Sue), all of Albion; one daughter, Pat (Bob) McKenzie of Omaha; 18 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Theresa Nearhood of Laguna Hills, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Gerald, Kenton, and Donald Nearhood; and one sister, Corkie.
Frank Korgie
COLUMBUS -- Frank Korgie, 85, of rural Columbus died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at the Columbus Community Hospital Inc. in Columbus.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus with the Rev. Christopher Grimmond officiating. Burial is at the parish cemetery.

Mr. Korgie was born Feb. 5, 1914, in Columbus to Charles and Victoria (Sus) Korgie. He attended St. Anthony Grade School and Kramer High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1941-45. He served in the Pacific Theater where he was wounded and received the Purple Heart. He returned to Columbus where he worked for Behlen Mfg. Co. until his retirement in 1976. He was a member of the church and a past trustee.
Survivors include two brothers, Robert (Claire) of Columbus and Ed (Judith) of Mauston, Wis.; and one sister, Margaret (Clayton) Lusche of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, the Rev. Humbert Korgie and Leo; and two sisters, Dorothy Iwan and Helen Moyers.

HUMPHREY - Cordelia E. Alderson, 89, of Columbus, formerly of Humphrey, died Thursday, Nov. 25, 1999, at Columbus Community Hospital Inc.
Services are 2 p.m. today at Duesman Funeral Chapel in Humphrey with the Rev. Eric Heisel officiating. Burial is at Fairview Cemetery in Creston.
Visitation is from noon-2 p.m. today.
Ms. Alderson was born Nov. 3, 1910, in Humphrey to Oliver R. and Cordelia (Newman) Alderson. She graduated from Humphrey High School and earned her master's degree from the University of Nebraska.
She lived most of her life in Humphrey. She taught at the high school level and was later an instructor for the University of Nebraska correspondence courses.
She belonged to Daughters of the American Revolution and was a member of Presbyterian Church in Lincoln.
Survivors included one brother, Dale of Battle Creek.

Marvin Briese
ALBION - Marvin E. Briese, 74, of Albion died Friday, Nov. 26, 1999, at the Boone County Health Center in Albion.
Services are 2 p.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church in Albion with the Rev. Brian Bergum officiating. Burial is at St. Michael's Cemetery in Albion with military honors conducted by American Legion Post 162 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 736.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
Mr. Briese was born on Jan. 2, 1925, in Newman Grove to Arthur and Helen (Knutsen) Briese. He attended Boone County District 83 School in rural Albion and graduated from Albion High School in 1941.
He served in the U.S. Navy from August 1944 until he was honorably discharged on June 10, 1946. He was awarded the Victory Ribbon, Point System, American Area Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Ribbon and the European African Mideastern Ribbon for his service.
On Nov. 24, 1947, he married Agnes Murphy in Tilden. They lived and farmed north of Albion.
They co-managed the Albion Vets Club from 1965-69. In 1987, they retired and moved to live in Albion. His wife died Nov. 10, 1999.
He was a lifelong member of the church, Veteran of Foreign Wars and American Legion. He served on the American Legion Board.
Survivors are his two daughters, Pat (Randy) Neidhardt of Albion and Jane (Bill) Parker of Meridian, Idaho; one son, Jeff (Kris) of Albion; one brother, Bob (Nidra) of Albion; one sister, Margaret Anne Christensen of Marina, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife.
Ethel Cerv
CLARKSON - Ethel Cerv, 94, of Clarkson died Thursday, Nov. 25, 1999, at Columbus Community Hospital Inc.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at New Zion Presbyterian Church in Clarkson with Dr. Earl F. Underwood Jr. officiating. Burial is in the Clarkson National Cemetery.
Visitation is 2-7 p.m. today at Miller Funeral Home in Clarkson and 9:30-10:30 a.m. Monday at the church.
Mrs. Cerv was born Aug. 5, 1905, to Joseph and Katherine (Beran) Lauda in Arad, Romania. Her family came to the United States in 1914. She was a housekeeper at the Clarkson Hotel, Emil Folda's and Dr. Eby's.
She married Joseph Cerv June 30, 1931, in Clarkson. After her marriage, they established a family farm north of Leigh and lived there until retiring to Clarkson in 1968.
She was a member of the church, Marta Aid, Presbyterian Women, ZCBJ and Macedonia Extension Club.
Survivors are two daughters, Mary (Basil) Browning of Pekin, Ill., and Dorothy (Leroy) Ditter of Columbus; one son, Robert (Sharon) of Leigh; one son-in-law, Robert Pokorny of Howells; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1973; one daughter, Alice M. Pokorny; one sister, Rose Stepan; three brothers, Joseph, James and John Lauda; and one infant grandson.
Memorials may be given to the church.
