DAVID CITY - Delores E. Gocken, 62, of Rising City died Friday, Nov. 26, 1999, at Columbus Community Hospital Inc.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Rising City with the Rev. David Palomaki officiating. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 1-8 p.m. today at Roberts Funeral Home in David City.
Mrs. Gocken was born Sept. 3, 1937, in David City to Richard and Helena (Bachus) Meyer. She graduated from Rising City High School in 1955.
She married Clark D. Gocken Sept. 21, 1958, in Rising City. She lived most of her live in Rising City. She was a housewife and belonged to the church.
Survivors included her husband; her mother of Rising City; one son, Thomas of DeKalb, Ill.; one daughter, Marti (Allan) Jefferson of Geneva; one sister, Paula (Norman) Rathje of Rising City; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father.

COLUMBUS - Cecilia Torczon, 81, of West Point, formerly of Columbus, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at West Point Living Center.

Bruce Weil Sr.
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - Bruce Allen Weil Sr., 65, of Grand Junction, Colo., died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, at his home.
Services were Feb. 8 at the Martin Mortuary Chapel in Grand Junction. The Rev. Ray Koehn officiated. A private burial was in Orchard Mesa Cemetery.
Mr. Weil was born Feb. 3, 1934, in Columbus to Clarence A. and Bertie (Johnson) Weil. He graduated from Kramer High School.
He married Shirley Thomas June 27, 1952, in Marysville, Kan. He was a resident of Grand Junction since 1967, and retired from Ametek Dixson on March 28, 1996. He enjoyed woodworking.
Survivors include his wife; a son, John of Bullfrog, Utah; three daughters, Susan of Fruita, Colo., Sheri (Chris) Brown of Carmi, Ill., and Beth of Las Vegas; one brother, Jon A. of Columbus; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Bruce Allen Jr. and Kim Arlyn.

FREMONT - Jaime Salcido-Duran, 24, of Fremont died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000, as the result of injuries in an auto accident west of North Bend on U.S. Highway 30.
Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fremont with the Rev. Carl Zoucha officiating. Burial is at Panteon Municipal Cemetery in Alvaro Ohregon, Chihuahua, Mexico.
There will be a 7 p.m. prayer service today at the church. There is no visitation.
Mr. Salcido-Duran was born Oct. 4, 1975, in Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico. He grew up in Mexico and came to Fremont in 1996.
Survivors include his parents, Cipriano and Carmen Duran de Salcido of Fremont; three brothers, Ramon, Rigo and Rogelio, all of Fremont; three sisters, Clara Salcido de Eguiarte, Sylvia Salcido de Gomez and Lizbeth, all of Fremont; a special friend, Ivette Orozco of Fremont; and many Columbus relatives.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

COLUMBUS - Patricia "Susan" Jones, 80, of Columbus died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000, at the Columbus Community Hospital Inc.
Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at Gass-Haney Funeral Home in Columbus with the Rev. Douglas Zurek officiating. Burial is at the Roselawn Cemetery in Columbus.

Mrs. Jones was born March 7, 1919, in Mankato, Minn., to Albert J. and Hester M. (Black) Haller. She was raised in Mankato and graduated from Mankato High School in 1938.
She married Robert Jones Oct. 11, 1940, in Estherville, Iowa. They moved to Sioux Falls, S.D., in 1958, then to Columbus in 1960. She worked at Brodkey Jewelry as a bookkeeper and sales clerk for 14 years. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Dr. Charles (Joyce) of Knoxville, Tenn.; two daughters, Deborah Kroeger of Columbus and Patricia (Scott) Welk of Grand Island; two sisters, Phyllis (Jerry) Reynolds of San Diego and Hester Williams of Bellflower, Calif.; and seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

Kenneth Kubicek
OSCEOLA - Kenneth L. Kubicek, 59, of Shelby died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000, in Friend.
Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shelby with the Rev. John Copenhaver officiating. Burial is at the parish cemetery.
Visitation is until 6 p.m. today at the Kepner-Roberts Funeral Home in Osceola with a 7:30 p.m. rosary at the church.
Mr. Kubicek was born Aug. 6, 1940, in Osceola to John Jr. and Helen (Glatter) Kubicek. He graduated from Shelby High School in 1959.
He married Marcella Patocka Jan. 16, 1960, in David City. He was a road maintainer operator for the Polk County Department of Roads for 34 years. He was a member of the church.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Dr. Richard (Mary) of Friend; a daughter, Cindy (Pat) Davis of Shelby; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one son, Steven.

Rev. Francis Price
COLUMBUS - The Rev. Francis R. Price, 82, of Norfolk, formerly of Columbus, died Sunday, March 5, 2000, at St. Joseph's Nursing Home in Norfolk.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Columbus with the Archbishop Elden Francis Curtiss officiating. Burial is at St. Bonaventure Cemetery in Columbus.
Visitation is after 4 p.m. Thursday with a 7 p.m. vigil and from 10 a.m. until service time Friday, all at the church.
Rev. Price was born April 5, 1917, in Phoenix, Neb., to Ernest and Mary (Nachtman) Price.
He attended rural schools in Holt County and graduated from St. Mary Academy in O'Neill in 1936. That fall he enrolled in St. Lawrence College in Mt. Calvary, Wis., and finished in June 1939. That same fall he entered St. Louis Prep Seminary. Having concluded his studies there in June 1941, he entered Kenrick Seminary the following September. After completing the required courses, he was ordained a priest on Dec. 21, 1944. On that date, he was appointed assistant pastor to St. Bridgets Church in Omaha and then to St. Michaels Church in South Sioux City. In March 1954, he was named pastor of the Church of Epiphany in Emmett with St. Joseph in Amelia as his mission. He remained there until June 2, 1960, when he began serving St. Anthony Parish in Cedar Rapids. On June 13, 1963, he became the founding pastor of St. Isidore Parish in Columbus. He served in this parish until June 16, 1983. At that point he was assigned to St. Augustine Indian Mission in Winnebago. On March 3, 1988, he was assigned to St. Michael Parish in Albion. His final appointment was as associate pastor of St. Bonaventure Church in Columbus from June 14, 1990, until retiring in 1994.
Survivors include four brothers, Delmar (Evelyn) of Portland, Ore., Joe (Evelyn) of Custer, S.D., the Rev. Basil Price S.J. of Seoul, Korea, and Stanley D. (Alberta) of Norfolk.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and four brothers, Blaine, Paul, Stephen and the Rev. Peter Price S.J.

Wilbur Johnson
COLUMBUS - Wilbur Louis Johnson, 88, of Columbus died Tuesday, March 7, 2000, at Edgewood Vista in Columbus.
Services are 10 a.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church in Columbus with the Rev. Katherine Bullard officiating. Burial is at the Columbus Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion Hartman Post 84.
Visitation is from 3-8 p.m. Thursday at Gass-Haney Funeral Home with Masonic services by Lebanon Lodge 323 A.F. and A.M. at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Visitation continues Friday from 9-10 a.m. at the church.
Mr. Johnson was born Nov. 29, 1911, in Clearwater to Roy E. and Emma M. (Reimer) Johnson. He attended school in District 60, Antelope County, Clearwater High School and Norfolk Junior College. He graduated from the University of Nebraska College of Law in 1935 with a bachelor of law degree. He was a member of the Phi Alpha Delta law fraternity and the Order of the Coif, an honorary legal fraternity. After his admission to the Missouri State Bar, he opened a law practice in Kansas City and served for eight years as an attorney for the Federal Trade Commission in Washington, D.C.
He married Jean A. Browder Sept. 5, 1937, in Albion. He served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Naval Reserve during World War II from 1944-46. He was enrolled for training at Princeton and Harvard University and was a communications officer on several troop transports in convoy duty on the Atlantic. He was also a legal officer at the U.S. Naval Disciplinary Barracks near Norfolk, Va.
He moved to Columbus in 1946 and opened a law office in the Maxwell Building. In 1949, he formed a law partnership with Judge Louis Lightner.
He held memberships in the Columbus Chamber of Commerce, the Platte County Bar Association, the Kansas City Bar Association, the Sixth Judicial District Bar Association and the Federal Bar Association. He was the associate editor of the Nebraska Law Bulletin from 1934-35, Columbus police judge from 1947-51, acting Platte County judge from 1959-72 and Columbus city attorney from 1961-65. He was a member of the VFW, Lebanon Lodge 323 A.F. and A.M., and other Masonic Orders, First United Methodist Church, chairman of the Board of Trustees for the building of the First United Methodist Church sanctuary, and an adult Sunday school teacher for 30 years. He was a former chairman of the Platte County Chapter of the Red Cross.
Survivors include a son, Vard (Ruth Purtilo) of Omaha; a daughter, Jamie (Richard) Snyder of Columbus; a sister, Winifred Kaminson of Neligh; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1986; and a sister, Zella Ward.

Shirley Zabka
ALBION - Shirley Janet Zabka, 61, of Milford died Monday, March 6, 2000, at her residence.
Services are 3 p.m. Thursday at the United Church of Christ in Albion with the Rev. Mary Avidano officiating. Burial is at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Albion.
Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. today at the Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
Mrs. Zabka was born Sept. 10, 1938, in Reynolds to Edward David and Ruth Grace (Simpson) Kinzie. She attended Beaver Crossing Public Schools and graduated from Beaver Crossing High School in 1956. Following graduation, she enlisted in the U.S. Navy. She was based in San Diego and worked at the hospital there. After her discharge she moved to Albion and was employed at the Boone County Hospital. She later moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa, and continued her nursing career. She then lived in Columbus and earned her cosmetology license, which resulted in a move to Milford, where she started her own beauty shop. She had currently been working at Shop EZ.
Survivors include two daughters, Patricia (Kenneth) Bethune of Carroll and Theresa (Michael) Mumaugh of Milford; one son, John (Leslie) Morris of Evans, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; five brothers, Bill of Council Bluffs, Don of Oceanside, Calif., Bob (Carol) of Ethel, Wash., Kennie (Millie) of Wilbur and Alfred (Helen) of Coffey, Mo.; and two sisters, Joyce (Carroll) Anderson of Albion and Ruby Morris of Newman Grove.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, David Edward "Bud" Kinzie.
Luella Armstrong
COLUMBUS - Luella F. Armstrong, 89, of Columbus died Tuesday, March 7, 2000, at the Columbus Manor.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at the Bible Baptist Church in Columbus with the Rev. Loren Swiney officiating. Burial is at the Brunswick Cemetery with graveside services at 3:30 p.m.

Mrs. Armstrong was born Jan. 22, 1911, in Plainview to Daniel and Myrtle (Russell) Kettle. She grew up on a farm near Brunswick and attended rural school near Brunswick and Neligh High School.
She married Frank Armstrong March 14, 1928, in Center. The couple farmed for many years in the Brunswick and Creighton area. In 1961, after the death of her husband, she made her home in Columbus with her daughter and son-in-law until 1996 when she entered the Columbus Manor. She was a member of the church.
Survivors include a son, Daniel of Bellwood; five daughters, Leatrice Behnk of Greeley, Gay Harriman, Twila Neuwirth and June Wilgocki, all of Columbus, and Deanna Kleider of Springfield; one sister, Helen Curtis of Hopkins, Minn.; 15 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and 22 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; four brothers; two sisters; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

ALBION - Helen E. Bowers, 92, of Albion died Tuesday, March 7, 2000, at the Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in Albion.

Floyd Mueller
COLUMBUS - Floyd Mueller, 82, of Columbus died Monday, May 8, 2000, at the Columbus Manor.

Mr. Mueller was born April 28, 1918, in Columbus to Samuel and Lena (Egger) Mueller. He attended school in Platte County.
He married Marian Kamm on Sept. 14, 1940, in Platte Center and they settled on a farm near Oconee. He was a past member of the Oconee Township Election Board and worked with the Lower Loup Natural Resources District for 12 years. He was a member of the church and was active for many years in the Men's Brotherhood group. He loved fishing and card playing. He spent his entire life in Platte County.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Janet (Loren) Bonneau of Crete; one son, Roger (Michele) of Columbus; one sister, Helen (Gottlieb) Abegglen of Columbus; one brother, Edward (Martha) of Columbus; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Walter; and two sisters, Lillian Bisson and Hulda Klink.

James Chmelka
BRAINARD - James T. Chmelka, 88, of Brainard died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at the Butler County Health Care Center in David City.
Services are 10 a.m. Friday at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Brainard with the Rev. Stephen Cooney officiating. Burial is at the parish cemetery.
Visitation is from 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. Thursday at the Holesovsky Mortuary in Brainard and after 6 p.m. at the church with a 7:30 p.m. Knights of Columbus and Catholic Workman rosary followed by a parish rosary.
Mr. Chmelka was born Sept. 18, 1911, near Brainard in Saunders County to John A. and Anna (Kliment) Chmelka. He attended Saunders County Rural District 68.
He married Irma M. Belik Sept. 7, 1937, in Prague. He farmed in Saunders County until retiring in Brainard in 1976. He was a member of the church and served as acolyte many years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Catholic Workmen and served as president of the local chapter, served on Saunders County Rural District 68, Newman Township Board in Saunders County and a rural Saunders County Cemetery Board.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, James E. (Marilyn) of Valparaiso and Donald F. (Vikki) of Escondido, Calif.; one sister, Rose Belik of Prague; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and six sisters.
Memorials are in care of the family.

COLUMBUS - Thomas A. Quinn, 59, of Lincoln was found dead Sunday, May 7, 2000, at his home.
Graveside services are 3:30 p.m. Friday at Roselawn Cemetery in Columbus with the Rev. Ernest Smith officiating.

ST. EDWARD - Libby Patronella Horn, 80, of St. Edward died Thursday, June 1, 2000, at Faith Regional Health Center in Norfolk.
Services are 10 a.m. Monday at United Methodist-Presbyterian Church in St. Edward with the Revs. Frank Baumert and Edward Gill officiating. Burial is at St. Edward Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be 3-5 p.m., Sunday at the Miller-Levander Funeral Home in St. Edward and will continue at the church at 7 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. rosary. Visitation will resume 8:30 a.m. Monday at the church till the service.
Mrs. Horn was born May 31, 1920, at Clarkson to Joe F. and Pauline (Kodelka) Weltruski. The family lived in the Leigh and Newman Grove areas until 1933, when they moved to St. Edward. She attended rural elementary school in Newman Grove and later attended Boone County District 66 near St. Edward.
Following her schooling, she worked as a housekeeper for many families in the area.
On Feb. 19, 1952, she married Duane A. Horn at Albion. They lived and farmed south of Lindsay until 1988 when they retired and moved to St. Edward.
She was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Lindsay and later St. Edward Catholic Church in St. Edward.
She is survived by her husband; one son, Rex (Laurie) of St. Edward; one brother, Milo Weltruski of Cedar Falls, Iowa.; two sisters, Marie (Bob) Woods of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Mildred (Marvin) Haas of St. Edward; one sister-in-law, Jane Weltruski of Primrose; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her twin brothers, Joe and Frank Weltruski; and an infant brother.
Arthur Walden
ALBION - Arthur William Walden, 80, of Columbus, formerly of Albion, died Friday, June 2, 2000, at the Columbus Community Hospital Inc.
Services are 2 p.m. Monday at Highland Park Evangelical Church in Columbus with the Rev. Mike Neely officiating. Burial is a Rosehill Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 162 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 736 of Albion.
Visitation will be 4-6 p.m., Sunday at the Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
Mr. Walden was born Sept. 18, 1919, at Tarkio, Mo., to William C. and Eva (Mather) Walden. He and his family lived on various farms in the Albion area. He attended several country schools in Boone County, including District 24 near the Dennison community.
He was drafted into the U.S. Army during World War II on Dec. 15, 1944, where he served in Japan as a military police officer. Following his honorable discharge on Dec. 17, 1946, he returned to Nebraska, where he farmed.
On Sept. 1, 1963, he married Lela (Cox) Naylor in Broken Bow. They lived on a farm north of St. Edward until 1980 when they moved to Albion where he worked for Karges Dairy. In April 1996, the couple moved to Columbus.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Albion. He was a member of the American Legion Post 162 of Albion. While in Columbus, he served as an usher for a short time at the Highland Park Evangelical Church.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Janice (Darell) Peden of Pensacola, Fla., and Janette (Wayne) Jones of Council Bluffs, Iowa; one son, Dean (Kellie) Naylor of Council Bluffs; three sisters, Pearl Wallick of Kirksville, Mo., Mary McLain and Dora Tiemann, both of Omaha; four grandsons, three granddaughters; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Ester Kaiser and Pauline Wallick.
Bette Borgmann
NORFOLK - Bette D. Borgmann, 59, of Norfolk died Friday, June 2, 2000, at St. Joseph's Nursing Home following a brief illness.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Church in Norfolk with the Rev. Harold Buse officiating. Burial is at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Osmond.
Visitation will be 3-6 p.m. Monday at Home for Funerals in Norfolk and will continue 7-8 p.m. at the church with a 7:30 p.m. wake.
She was born Sept. 25, 1940, to John and Anne Marie (Erker) Callow at Plainview. She graduated from Plainview High School in 1958.
On Dec. 27, 1958, she married John Borgmann at Plainview. She attended Wayne State College while they resided in Osmond. She then taught school in Osmond and moved to Neligh. The couple then returned to Osmond for 10 years. After settling in Norfolk, she worked as a bookkeeper for her husband's business, John's Automotive, then retired inn 1990. Mrs. Borgmann then operated Nana's Nook for two years and did floral arranging.
She was a member of the Sacred Heart-St. Mary's Catholic Church in Norfolk, Catholic Daughters of the Americas and American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Gerry (Tammie) of Stanton and Tim (Corrina) of Arlington, Texas; four daughters, Julie (Tim) Baxter of Jacksonville, Ala., Anita (Robert) Stange of Osmond, Jennifer (Harold) Tuatoo of Seattle and Andrea Borgmann and her fiance' W.L. Threats of Lincoln; her mother, Anna Van Kirk of Plainview; four brothers, Jim Van Kirk of Lincoln, Robert Van Kirk of Sioux Falls, S.D., Chris Van Kirk of Plainview and Don Christiansen of Boston; three sisters, Marie Anderson of Bakersfield, Calif., Alesia Rottler of Norfolk and Dena Van Kirk of Lincoln; 18 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father, stepfather and one daughter.
LaVerne Faaborg
FULLERTON - LaVerne "Butch" Faaborg, 85, of Fullerton died Friday, June 2, 2000, at Integrated Health Services at Central City.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Palmer Funeral Home in Fullerton with Rev. Mary McQueen officiating. Burial will be in the Fullerton Cemetery with military rites.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Mr. Faaborg was born May 16, 1915, at Howard County to Anton and Helga (Jacobsen) Faaborg. He attended school at Nysted District 17 and graduated from Danneborg High School in 1934. He attended Moler Barber College in Omaha and in 1937 he opened his barber shop in Fullerton.
On July 3, 1938, he married Adele Luschei at Fullerton. He served in the Army from 1942-46. He operated a bowling alley from 1950-53 and operated his barber shop for more than 50 years.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, bowling, golfing, dancing and singing. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, life member and past commander of Fullerton Veterans of Foreign Wars and Fullerton American Legion Post 151, Fraternal Order of Eagles patron member, Cedar River Masonic Ledge No. 89 A.F. & A.M. for 45 years, life member of Nance County Historical Society, past president and secretary of Fullerton Area Chamber of Commerce, past president of Kemp Country Club and Fullerton Cemetery Board, and a member of the Lions Club. He received the Fullerton High School Booster Honorary F Award and had been active in the Legion baseball program.
Survivors include his wife; son, Dr. Loren of Scottsbluff; daughter, Gail (John) Rogers of West Allis, Wis.; five grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; and seven stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Gary.
Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church, Senior Center or the American Legion Baseball Program.
