Leonard Wondercheck
FULLERTON -- Leonard H. Wondercheck, 83, of Fullerton died Sunday, May 4, 2003, at Litzenberg Memorial County Hospital in Central City.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. at Palmer Funeral Home in Fullerton. The Rev. Valjean Warman will officiate. Burial will be in the Fullerton Cemetery, with military rites provided by American Legion Philbrick Post 151.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Marjorie Novotny
KEARNEY -- Marjorie L. Novotny, 74, of Kearney died Friday, Dec. 5, 1997, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary in Kearney. Burial will be in the Kearney Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Good Samaritan Hospital Hospice Program.
Mrs. Novotny was born on Jan. 7, 1923, in Julesburg, Colo., to Harry A. and Mae (Burton) Turner. She moved to Kearney at a young age and later graduated from Kearney High School.
She married
Lloyd Swindell on Dec. 12, 1942, in Phillipsburg, Kan. She worked as a waitress at several Kearney businesses including the Planeview Café and the City Coffee Shop. She later worked at the West Co. in Kearney for 13 years until retiring.
She was a member of the Fort Kearny Eagles Auxiliary 2722 in Kearney and the Kearney American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include a son, Michael Swindell of Grand Island; a daughter, Donna Mattke of Atlanta; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Eleanor Speck of North Platte.
Her husband died on Feb. 28, 1997. She also was preceded in death by four brothers, four sisters and one grandson.
Margaret Whitaker
FULLERTON -- Margaret Whitaker, 94, of Fullerton died Thursday, Dec. 4, 1997, at the Fullerton Manor.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church in Fullerton. The Rev. Jim Howland will officiate. Burial will be in the Fullerton Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Palmer Funeral Home.
Mrs. Whitaker was born on April 25, 1903, in Fullerton to Benjamin and Mary (Feeney) Seely. She lived in Fullerton most of her life.
She married
Leonard B. "Bert" Whitaker in 1923. The couple farmed in Vivion, S.D., for a few years, then returned to Fullerton to raise their family.
Mrs. Whitaker was active in the First Presbyterian Church as a longtime Sunday school teacher, a church circle member and a deacon.
She also was a member of the Social Hour Extension Club. She had an extensive flower garden, large vegetable garden and orchard.
Survivors include two sons, Max of Silverton, Ore., and Ronald of North Canton, Ohio; two daughters, Phyllis (Mrs. Douglas) Hadfield of Fullerton and Shirley Anderson of Overland Park, Kan.; 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Her husband died in 1988. She also was preceded in death by two infant children, five brothers and four sisters.
Roy Woodring
CENTRAL CITY -- Roy Woodring, 84, of Central City died Thursday, Dec. 4, 1997, at Litzenberg Memorial County Hospital in Central City.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Solt Funeral Home in Central City with the Rev. Debra Tompsett-Welch officiating. Burial will be in the Central City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Central City American Legion Baseball program.
Mr. Woodring was born on June 28, 1913, in Pattonsburg, Mo., to W.C. and Lucy (Dannar) Woodring. The family moved to Nebraska in 1919, and he graduated from Aurora High School.
He married
Mildred I. VanPelt on Sept. 19, 1937, in Aurora. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was service manager for Wortman Motor Co. He became engineer for the city of Aurora in 1964 and retired from that job in 1978. After retirement, he again worked at Wortman's in various capacities.
The couple moved to Central City in 1991. Mrs. Woodring died on May 10, 1993. Mr. Woodring moved to Merrick Manor in 1993 and had been at Community Care of America in Central City for about two months.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Aurora and later transferred to the United Methodist Church in Central City. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Post 42 and a past member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Grand Island. He enjoyed woodworking.
Survivors include one daughter, Sondra (Mrs. Myron) Foulk of Central City; one son, Mike Woodring of Keokuk, Iowa; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Other than his wife, he was preceded in death by one great-grandson.
Lanora Sayles
RACINE, Wis. -- Lanora V. Sayles, 93, of Racine, Wis., formerly of the Hordville and Hampton areas, died Friday, Dec. 5, 1997, in Kenosha, Wis.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Solt Funeral Home in Hampton. The Rev. Shari Duminy will officiate. Burial will be in the Hampton Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Sayles was born on Nov. 17, 1904, in Hamilton County to Peter A. and Mary C. (Benson) Erickson.
She married
Kenneth R. Sayles. They lived in Nebraska until 1938, when they moved to Racine. Mr. Sayles died on July 13, 1966. Mrs. Sayles lived in Racine until recently moving to the Kenosha Care Center.
She was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Hordville.
Survivors include one daughter, Lavone Christensen of Racine; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; one brother, Milburn Erickson of Hastings; and one sister, Clara Jones of Aurora.
Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Virgil and Lawrence Erickson; and one sister, Myrtle Sayles.
Cl'tte Baker
Cl'tte Sue Baker, 43, of 118 N. Carey died Tuesday, July 28, 1998, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha after a lingering illness.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Abundant Life Christian Center. The Rev. Stephen Warriner will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday at Kleine Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mrs. Baker was born on July 25, 1955, in Grand Island to Cerrovio "John" and Charlene "Lee" (Wachholtz) Guerrero. She grew up in Grand Island and graduated from Northwest High School in 1973.
She married
Steve Rose on Aug. 11, 1973, in Grand Island. She worked for the family business, Rose Glass and Exhaust Pros.
She married
Mark Baker on June 23, 1996, in North Platte. They lived in Grand Island. Mrs. Baker was working as a CNA and activities assistant for St. Francis Skilled Care Center at the time of her death.
She was a member of the Christian faith. She enjoyed crafts and working with dried flowers. She had been a member of the Grand Island Area Mother Singers for many years.
Survivors include her husband; one son, Eric Rose of Grand Island; two daughters, Laura Rose and Amanda Rose, both of Grand Island; one grandson; her mother, Lee Guerrero-Kirkman of Grand Island; three brothers, Thomas Guerrero of Olathe, Kan., Greg Guerrero of Chapman and Robert Guerrero of Grand Island; and one sister, Melodee (Mrs. Alan) Paulsen of Clay Center.
She was preceded in death by her father.
