Marge Eby
DANNEBROG -- Anna M. "Marge" Eby, 81, of Dannebrog died Sunday, Nov. 15, 1998, at BryanLGH Medical Center East in Lincoln.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Dannebrog. The Rev. Robert Carlson Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Ridge cemetery at Dannebrog.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Peters Funeral Home in St. Paul.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mrs. Eby was born on Jan. 19, 1917, on the family farm north of Dannebrog to Andrew S. and Valnetta M. (Nielsen) Miller. She attended Dannebrog public schools and graduated from Dannebrog High School in 1935.
Upon completing her education, she worked as a housekeeper for local families.
She married
Howard F. Eby on Nov. 12, 1936, at Dannebrog. The couple first lived in Dannebrog. When Mr. Eby served in the U.S. Army as a dentist, the couple lived in Memphis, Tenn., and Colorado Springs, Colo. After the war, they moved to Hartington and later to South Dakota.
They moved to St. Paul in 1952, and she worked at various businesses. She began working as a cook at the American Legion Club in St. Paul in 1960 and worked there for 25 years. She moved back to the family farm at Dannebrog in 1985 and worked for the next three years as a cook at Dreisbach's. She moved into Dannebrog in May 1998.
In her early years, she enjoyed golf and bowling.
She was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Dannebrog.
Survivors include two daughters, Edna Verley of St. Paul and Annette (Mrs. David) Williams of San Antonio; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Valnetta (Mrs. Howard) Casey of Lubbock, Texas.
Her husband died in 1960. She also was preceded in death by one daughter, Linda Chambers; one granddaughter; and two brothers, Earl and Arnold Miller.
Everett Oliver
SHELTON -- Everett L. Oliver, 87, of Shelton died Sunday, Nov. 15, 1998, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Shelton with the Rev. Charles Spence officiating. Burial will be in the Shelton cemetery with military graveside rites by Shelton American Legion Post 297.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Godberson Mortuary in Gibbon.
Memorials are suggested to the Shelton Fire Department or the church.
Mr. Oliver was born on July 13, 1911, on the family farm south of Shelton to Edward Henry and Ethel May (Jones) Oliver. He grew up on the farm and attended rural school and Shelton High School.
He farmed with his family until called to serve in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served from 1942 to 1945 and was wounded in Italy, earning the Purple Heart.
He returned to Shelton to live.
He was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, both in Shelton.
Survivors include five brothers, Gilbert and Nelson, both of Shelton, Stewart of Grand Island, George of Gibbon and Kenneth of Alexandria, La.; and four sisters, Roberta Burmood and Anna DeLaet, both of Lexington, Lucille Taylor of Massilon, Ohio, and Josephine Oliver of Oxford.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Stirk.
George Pirnie
BROKEN BOW -- George R. Pirnie, 88, of Broken Bow died Monday, Nov. 16, 1998, at his home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow. The Rev. Charles Gregory will officiate. Burial will be in the Lone Tree cemetery at Weissert.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Max Bennett
LINCOLN -- Vernon Max Bennett, 71, of Lincoln, formerly of Loup City, died Saturday, Nov. 14, 1998, at Lincoln General Hospital.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Higgins Funeral Home in Loup City. The Rev. Heidi Revelo will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery at Loup City.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Alice Billington
ELWOOD -- Alice Marie Billington, 82, of Elwood, formerly of Grand Island, died Sunday, Nov. 15, 1998, at the Tri-County Hospital in Lexington.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. Julie Bringelson will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
Memorials are suggested to the Lupus Foundation or the Elwood Care Center.
Mrs. Billington was born on Aug. 15, 1916, at Gibbon to Elmer and Alice (Cox) Watson. She grew up in the Wood River area. She graduated from high school in Wood River in 1934.
She married
Dale Billington on Dec. 14, 1939, at Grand Island. Mr. Billington died on Jan. 17, 1966. Mrs. Billington was a self-employed baby sitter, retiring in 1980. She moved to the Elwood Care Center in 1995.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
Survivors include one son, George of Lexington; two daughters, Ruth Ann (Mrs. Rolf) Carlson of Williamsport, Pa., and Mary Beth (Mrs. Anthony) Sydzyik at Grand Island; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; three brothers, Elmer Watson of Wood River, Dix Watson of Grand Island and Arlin Watson of Rising Fawn, Ga.; and two sisters, Roberta (Mrs. Paul) Dehaes of Grand Island and Jill (Mrs. Charles) Dehaes of Kearney.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one infant daughter, one infant great-grandson, three brothers and one sister.
Irvin Losh
VALENTINE -- Irvin Rudy Losh, 75, of Valentine died Saturday, Nov. 14, 1998, at the Cherry County Hospital in Valentine after a nine-year battle with cancer.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the United Church of Christ in Purdum. The Rev. David Hansen will officiate. Burial will be in the Purdum Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
Mr. Losh was born on April 29, 1923, at his parents' home near Calf Creek in Cherry County to Earl and Dora Losh. He attended District 97 School. As a youngster, he raised, broke and sold many Shetland ponies with his grandfather, Clyde Losh.
He graduated from Thomas County High School in Thedford in 1941. He played high school basketball and especially enjoyed the state basketball tournament.
He married
Vera Zella Keller on Dec. 27, 1943, at Broken Bow. The couple lived with her mother for about a year and then moved to the house next door on the ranch. His mother-in-law lived with them for 12 years. They later took care of his parents during their later years.
He loved ranching, cattle and horses and enjoyed roping and participating in local rodeos. He also liked to travel and play cards.
He was a member of the Purdum Rural Fire District, the Nebraska Cattlemen's Association and the United Church of Christ in Purdum, which he had served as a deacon and on numerous committees. He previously had been a member of the Broken Bow Elks Lodge and Sandhills Cattle Association for many years.
Survivors include two daughters, Twyla (Mrs. Tom) Witt of Malcolm and Merrial Baxter of Thedford; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Juan Still
JUANITA -- Juan A. Still, 59, of Juanita died Saturday, Nov. 14, 1998, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the First Congregational United Church of Christ. The Rev. Suzanne Burris will officiate.
Brand-Wilson Funeral Home in Hastings is in charge of arrangements.
Additional services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Marceline, Mo. Burial will be in Mount Olive cemetery in Marceline.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to service time Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Marceline.
A memorial will be established.
Mr. Still was born on Sept. 2, 1939, at Marceline, Mo., to Rolley and Opal (Lockwood) Still.
He married
Dixie Preston on Jan. 9, 1960. He moved in 1985 to Juniata, where he was sales and traffic manager for Consolidated Blenders.
He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Christ, president of the Hastings Men's Bowling Association and a member of the State Bowling Board.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Kimberly Still and Dana Duker, both of Kenesaw; and one sister, Delores Holt of Marceline, Mo.
