Irene Mueller
MARYVILLE, Mo. -- Irene Mueller, 94, of Maryville, Mo., formerly of Central City, died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 1998, at Maryville.
Memorial services will be at noon Wednesday at the Central City Cemetery.
Miss Mueller was born in 1904 to John and Mary (Bruno) Mueller. She graduated from Nebraska Central College in Central City and received her master's degree and Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska.
She taught school at Chapman, Wisconsin State College and Northwest State College at Maryville, Mo., until her retirement. She continued to live in Maryville until her death.
Survivors in this area include Janet Anderson of Marquette and Becky Hajny of Clay Center.
Earl Ruby
BUFFALO, Minn. -- Earl J. Ruby, 81, of Buffalo, Minn., formerly of Grand Island, died Saturday, Nov. 14, 1998, at the Buffalo Hospital.
A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Buffalo with Pastor John P. Folkerds officiating. Burial will be in Orleans.
Peterson Chapel in Buffalo is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Ruby was born on Sept. 21, 1917, in Orleans to Robert and Carolyn (Williams) Ruby. He graduated from high school in Beaver City in 1934.
He married
Alicellen Bockhahn on Nov. 18, 1939, in Smith Center, Kan. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and received the Purple Heart and a Bronze Star before being discharged in 1946. He later served in the Nebraska National Guard and in the Army Reserve, retiring as a lieutenant colonel.
Mr. Ruby sold office equipment and business supplies in Grand Island for 50 years.
He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, the Elks Lodge and the Eagles.
Survivors include a son, Al Ruby of Kennewick, Wash.; two daughters, Jayne (Mrs. Kurt) Weiche of Buffalo and Joni (Mrs. Charles) Pearson of Peachtree, Ga.; seven grandchildren; and a sister, Barbara Furse of Red Cloud.
He was preceded in death by his wife; a twin sister, Jesse Fay Ruby; and two brothers, Orville and Ancel Ruby.
Ralph Fattig
Ralph E. Fattig, 76, of Grand Island died Thursday, Oct. 22, 1998, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Omaha.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Cathedral. The Rev. Jose Chavez will officiate. Burial will be in Fort McPherson National cemetery near Maxwell.
There will be no visitation. Mr. Fattig was cremated. Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the American Lung Association.
Mr. Fattig was born on June 16, 1922, at Houston to Ralph and Vivian (Cortelyou) Fattig. He grew up and was educated in Houston. He attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
He entered the U.S. Army on Aug. 3, 1940. He served with the 3rd Division, 36th Division and 12th Armored Division in Africa, Italy, France, Belgium, Holland, Luxembourg, Germany and Austria. He was on active status from 1940 to 1946 and reserve status from 1946 to 1956, when he was discharged.
He married
Florence Shotkoski on Oct. 17, 1942, at Seattle. He worked as a security officer at the State Capitol in Lincoln, marshal and deputy sheriff in Jefferson County, police chief at Wymore and police officer in Denver.
The couple moved to Grand Island in 1958. He worked at the Grand Island Police Department, operated Chuck Wagon Foods catering service, was a safety engineer at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant for five and a half years and worked for the Hall County Sheriff's Department as a deputy security officer at the Central Nebraska Regional Airport for one and a half years. He retired in 1986.
Survivors include two daughters, Dianne Fattig of Friendswood, Texas, and Mary Lynn (Mrs. Michael) Fernau of Pearland, Texas; one son, Michael Sterling of Denver; six grandchildren; one sister, Mary Fisher of Alexander, Ind.; and his ex-wife, of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Janice.
Lorine Paine
Lorine J. Paine, 93, of Grand Island, a former senior high school teacher, died Thursday, Oct. 22, 1998, at the Community Care Center following a long illness with Alzheimer's disease.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. Jim Keyser will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to Trinity United Methodist Church.
Among survivors is her husband, Bayard H. Paine Jr. of Grand Island.
Virgil Ronzzo
Virgil Ronzzo, 81, of the Grand Island Veterans Home, formerly of Ord, died Thursday, Oct. 22, 1998 at the home.
Services are pending at Ord Memorial Chapel.
Vencil Fryzek
ORD -- Vencil Fryzek, 80, of Ord died Thursday, Oct. 22, 1998, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Omaha.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Ord Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Mike Chase will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord City cemetery with military rites by the Ord Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Marie Keys
BROKEN BOW -- Marie C. Keys, 87, of Broken Bow, formerly of the Purdum and Halsey area, died Wednesday, Oct. 21, 1998, at Sandhills Manor Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow. The Rev. Cliff Reynolds will officiate. Burial will be in the Purdum Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to the Huntington's Chorea Foundation.
Mrs. Keys was born on March 31, 1911, at Ansley to David and Chl' (Johnston) McCullough. She graduated from Ansley High School and taught school near Elsmere.
She married
Gale E. Keys on Oct. 1, 1930, at Grand Island. They lived in the Compton community near Purdum, where they farmed and ranched.
They moved to Halsey in 1954, and both worked for the U.S. Forest Service. They purchased the Halsey Hotel in 1958. They sold their ranch in 1963. Mrs. Keys later worked as a rural mail carrier for many years. Mr. Keys died in a tractor accident in September 1965.
Mrs. Keys retired in 1976 from the Postal Service and moved to Husker Homes in Ansley. She moved to Regency Place in Broken Bow in 1986. After breaking her hip in 1990, she moved to Sandhills Manor Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
She attended the First Christian Church in Broken Bow and had been a member of the Purdum Ladies Aid.
Survivors include two daughters, Doneta (Mrs. Paul) Simonton of Broken Bow and Dancie (Mrs. Gale) Smith of Dannebrog; three sons, Donald of North Platte, Derrold of Granite City, Ill., and Dewey of Purdum; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; her stepmother, Margaretha McCullough of Broken Bow; four sisters, Margaret Mitchell of Kearney, Hilda McCulley of Broken Bow, Faye McCulley of Ansley and Vesta El' of Loup City; two brothers, Alfred McCullough of Broken Bow and Rex McCullough of Brush, Colo.; and a half sister, Alma Kaps of Miller.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Delores; one sister, Gertie; and one brother, Pete.
Ruth Larson
KEARNEY -- Ruth M. Larson, 89, of Kearney died Wednesday, Oct. 21, 1998, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 9 a.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church in Kearney. The Rev. Ron R'mmich will officiate. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Westlawn Memorial Park cemetery in Grand Island.
Visitation will be prior to services Friday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the church.

Mrs. Larson was born on Aug. 13, 1909, at Unadilla to John W. and Mary (Van Meter) Bassett. She graduated from Unadilla High School and attended Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln.
She taught school in Howard County until her marriage to Earl K. Larson Sr. on Feb. 16, 1933, in Unadilla. They lived on a farm in Howard County until moving to Grand Island in 1937.
Mrs. Larson taught in rural schools near St. Libory and Wood River until she retired during the 1960s. The couple moved to Kearney in 1990.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Earl K. Jr. of Kearney and Roger J. of Scottsdale, Ariz.; one daughter, Marilyn Hull of Littleton, Colo.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Her husband died on Sept. 15, 1992. She also was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
