James Hart
TILDEN -- James Donald Hart, 76, of Tilden died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 1999, at the Nebraska Veterans Home in Norfolk.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Faith United Methodist Church in Tilden. The Rev. Elsa Lawry will officiate. Burial will be in the Tilden City cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post 170 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7603, both of Tilden.
Mr. Hart was born on Aug. 30, 1922, at Plainview. He attended school at Plainview and Tilden.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from Feb. 4, 1944, to May 22, 1945. He was discharged after recovering from being wounded. He received the Purple Heart.
Mr. Hart was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Tilden, American Legion Post 170, VFW Post 7603, Community Pride and the TOPS Club. He received the Good Neighbor Award.
Survivors include three brothers, Bill Hart of Redding, Calif., Art Hart of Wolbach and Eldon Hart of Leigh; and one sister, Lois Rodgers of Underwood, Wash.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Orley and Ray.
Linda Lorenzen
OMAHA -- Linda Marie Lorenzen, 50, of Omaha, formerly of Grand Island, died Feb. 19, 1999, at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha.
Services were on Tuesday at St. Boniface's Church in Stuart. The Revs. Doug Scheinost and Jim Hunt officiated. Burial was in St. Boniface's Catholic cemetery at Stuart.
Mrs. Lorenzen was born on Oct. 3, 1948, at Ainsworth to Paul and Louise Babl. She attended Newport rural schools and graduated from Rock County High School in 1966. She attended Duchesne College in Omaha and graduated from St. Francis School of Nursing in August 1970.
She married
Ron Lorenzen in 1971 in Grand Island.
Survivors include one son, Mike Lorenzen of Spangdahlem Air Base; one daughter, Brenda Conolly of Morgan City, La.; one grandchild; her parents, of Newport; two brothers, Paul of Lincoln and Gary of Rapid City, S.D.; and six sisters, Carol (Mrs. Jim) Olson of Oshkosh, Mary Babl of West Point, Paula (Mrs. Randy) Chamberlain of Sioux Falls, S.D., Julie (Mrs. Scot) Iverson of Bassett, Karen (Mrs. Dwain) Holder of Jackson, Tenn., and Kim (Mrs. Jeff) Wallinger of Stuart.
Zola Schudel
OGDEN, Utah -- Zola Mildred Schudel, 87, of Ogden, Utah, formerly of Ord, died Tuesday, Feb. 23, 1999, at her home.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the Ord City Cemetery. The Rev. David Stipp will officiate. The Eastern Star will conduct additional burial rites.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday at Ord Memorial Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to Parkview Village.
'Rod' Scoville
PORTLAND, Maine -- Rodney E. "Rod" Scoville, 83, of Portland, Maine, died Feb. 6, 1999, at the Maine Medical Center.
Services were private. Burial will be in Forest City cemetery at South Portland.
Hay and Peabody Funeral Home of Portland was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Scoville was born in Lubec, Maine, to Burton and Josephine (Campbell) Scoville and attended Lubec schools.
He moved to Portland during World War II and worked at the Portland Shipyard.
Mr. Scoville managed Sebago Ice Co. during the 1950s, after which he moved to Connecticut and worked for United Motors until his retirement.
Following retirement, he returned to Portland.
Mr. Scoville raised trial beagles. He was an avid checkers player, having won both the Connecticut and Maine state championships. He won the New England Checkers Champion in June 1998. He also enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves and hunting.
Survivors include one daughter, Shirley Barto of North Berwick, Maine; a stepdaughter, Carol Lemay of Scarborough, Maine; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Lura Akeley of South Portland, Maine, and Seretha Cramer of Grand Island.
Levi Jackson
Levi Jackson, 89, of Grand Island died Thursday, June 11, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. Richard Karohl will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Research Fund or the donor's choice.
Tena Brunken
HASTINGS -- Tena J. Brunken, 89, of Hastings died Thursday, June 11, 1998, at Perkins Pavilion in Hastings.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings. The Rev. Bill Liddell will officiate. Burial will be in Parkview cemetery at Hastings.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. to service time Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mrs. Brunken was born on May 25, 1909, in Glenvil to Klass and Folke (Hinrich) Schmidt.
She married
John G. Brunken on Jan. 15, 1930. She worked at a nursing home, at the Hawthorne School cafeteria and for Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital for 23 years. She was a lifelong resident of Clay and Adams counties.
Mr. Brunken died in 1978.
Survivors include one daughter, Marjorie Brunken of Hastings; three grandchildren; and three great-grandsons.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Eugene Brunken; two sisters and two brothers.
Jarda Swanson
ST. PAUL -- Jarda E. Swanson, 87, of St. Paul died Wednesday, June 10, 1998, at the Howard County Community Hospital in St. Paul.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Grace Baptist Church in St. Paul. The Rev. Don Lovell will officiate. Burial will be in Oakridge cemetery at Dannebrog.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Miss Swanson was born on April 24, 1911, in a sod house near Westerville to Joseph and Elenora (Malm) Swanson. She attended rural school in that area and later graduated from a high school there. She grew up on the family ranch. She attended Grand Island Baptist College and was a graduate of Kearney State Teachers College.
She taught rural school in Custer County and then at Berwyn. She later taught in the Scottsbluff elementary school system.
She moved to Glen Ellyn, Ill., in 1947. She earned a master's degree in administration and supervision from the National College of Education in Evanston, Ill. She taught art at the college level. She lived with a special friend, Esther Sorensen.
She taught in the Hawthorne elementary school system in Glen Ellyn until retiring in 1975.
She served as chairwoman of the Christian Education Committee and the building committee of Glen Ellyn Bible Church.
She stayed in Glen Ellyn until 1981, when she and Esther Sorensen moved to Rockford, Ill. She moved to the St. Paul area in 1995 and to Parkside Plaza in St. Paul in February 1996.
She enjoyed traveling and painting. She helped to develop student teachers and recognize their ability.
Survivors include three brothers, Ted of Dannebrog, Fennett of Yankton, S.D., and Paul of St. Paul.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Melvin, Arvid, Leonard and an infant brother, Ted.
