Betty Churchill
CENTRAL CITY - Betty Jean Churchill, 66, of Central City died Tuesday, June 9, 1998, as the result of a bicycle-auto accident in Central City.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Solt Funeral Home in Central City. The Rev. Dale Sallans will officiate. Burial will be at Sts. Peter and Paul cemetery near St. Paul.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home.
Walter Furby
FULLERTON - Walter Furby, 77, of Fullerton died Tuesday, June 9, 1998, at the Boone County Health Center in Albion.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Palmer's Funeral Home in Fullerton. The Rev. Mary McQueen will officiate. Burial will be in the Fullerton Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Blanche Hudnall
CHAPMAN - Blanche Hudnall, 99, of Chapman died Tuesday, June 9, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church in Chapman. The Rev. Dennison Conner will officiate. Burial will be in the Chapman Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Solt Funeral Home in Central City.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Mrs. Hudnall was born on April 18, 1899, at the family home near Chapman to Joshua C. and Alma E. (Bush) Raser. She attended District 9 School and graduated in 1916 from Chapman High School.
She married
Ernest A. Hudnall on Nov. 10, 1920. They lived and farmed in the Chapman area. Mr. Hudnall died in 1982.
Mrs. Hudnall was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Chapman. She taught Sunday school, served as White Cross chairwoman for many years and participated in Clare Barton Circle activities. She was a charter member of the Friendly Club and a master lace knitter.
Survivors include three daughters, Nola (Mrs. Stanley) Oberhelman of Chapman, Lois (Mrs. Lawrence) Killion of Elm Creek and Bonnie Gelling of Central City; one son, Warren Hudnall of Chapman; 13 grandchildren; and 38 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four great-grandchildren, five brothers and two sisters.
Dwight Johnson
BURWELL - Dwight E. Johnson, 83, of Burwell died Monday, June 8, 1998, at the Valley County Hospital in Ord.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First Congregational Church with the Rev. Ray Avidano officiating. Burial will be in Cottonwood cemetery in Burwell.
Eberle-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mr. Johnson was born on Jan. 17, 1915, in Burwell to Frank and Julia (Brown) Johnson. He graduated from Burwell High School in 1933 and from Doane College in Crete in 1935.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.
He married
Kathryn Holub at the Congregational Church in Burwell on July 28, 1946. He was a Burwell businessman for 35 years while owning Johnson and Troxell Lumber Co.
He had been a member of Ord Elks Lodge 2371 since 1967, when he was one of the co-founders. He was exalted ruler from 1970 to 1971. He was also a member of Blazing Star Masonic Lodge 200 A.F. & A.M. in Burwell for 50 years and was past worshipful master. He was a member of Burwell Legion Post 298 for 53 years and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6155. He helped administer the local Butts Scholarship. He was a lifelong member of the First Congregational Church.
Mr. Johnson loved to travel and loved his classic cars. He also enjoyed having coffee at Homestead Knolls.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Jennifer (Mrs. Brad) Sheaff of Lincoln; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.
'Jack' Russell
FULLERTON - John W. "Jack" Russell, 74, of Fullerton died Tuesday, June 9, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the First Presbyterian Church in Fullerton. Burial will be in the Fullerton Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church.
Palmer's Funeral Home of Fullerton is in charge of arrangements.
Joseph Thein
KENESAW - Joseph T. Thein, 85, of Kenesaw died Tuesday, June 9, 1998, at the Kenesaw Haven Home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Hastings. Monsignor John McCabe will officiate. Burial will be in Parkview cemetery at Hastings.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m., with an 8 p.m. rosary, Thursday at Brand-Wilson Mortuary in Hastings.
Mr. Thein was born on Jan. 7, 1913, at Omaha to Joseph J. and Rose (Cushing) Thein. He attended schools in Omaha and Wausa.
He married
Arlene Waterbury on June 3, 1936, in Norfolk. He worked in construction for 16 years in various areas. He moved to Hastings in 1943 and worked at the Naval Ammunition Depot. The Theins operated DLD Cafe and Tepee Motel and Trailer Court.
He opened Thein's Concrete Ornaments in 1970 and retired from there in 1994. Mrs. Thein died on March 24, 1981.
He married
Darlene Strohl on Oct. 2, 1981.
He was a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Marilyn Goldman of Kingston, Ga., Maureen Highley of Los Angeles and Carolyn Spady of Hastings; four stepdaughters, Karen Dirks and Sharon Powell, both of Hastings, and Carol Frye and Jane Dowse, both of Harvard; one stepson, Doug Strohl of Littleton, Colo.; 15 grandchildren; 16 step grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 20 step great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three step great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Carlson of Lincoln and Ruth Wickman of Norfolk; and two brothers, Robert of Grand Island and Richard of Pine Grove, Calif.
In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by one son, two grandchildren, one brother and one sister.
Anna Harris
NELIGH - Anna Marie Harris, 86, of Neligh, formerly of Albion, died Monday, June 8, 1998, at Antelope Memorial Hospital in Neligh.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Albion. The Rev. Will Spenner will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday at Levander Funeral Home in Albion and after 7 p.m. Thursday at the church, with a wake service at 8 p.m. Visitation will resume from 9 a.m. until service time Friday.
Isabell Alexander
Isabell May Alexander, 81, of 1716 N. Eddy died Friday, Dec. 19, 1997, at Tiffany Square Care Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Gollaher Chapel of Trinity United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jocelyn Tupper will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to Trinity United Methodist Church.
Miss Alexander was born on Sept. 13, 1916, to John W. and Pearl (Sopher) Alexander in Grand Island. She grew up in Grand Island was educated in the Grand Island Public Schools, graduating in 1934.
She worked for Von Ohlen's until 1938, when she moved to Omaha and worked as manager for several variety stores. She moved to Englewood, Calif., in 1951, where she worked for a die casting company, an auto agency and a sand casting company before retiring in 1981. She moved back to Grand Island in 1983 and worked as a bookkeeper at Miller and Paine and Edward's Audio.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Rebecca Lodge, Order of Eastern Star and the Ladies Auxiliary of Railroad Transportation.
Survivors include two cousins, Deloris Biess of Chicago and Donavan Crandell of Central City.
She was preceded in death by a sister and a young brother.
