Alma Miller
Alma H. Miller, 105, of Grand Island died Friday, Dec. 19, 1997, at the Park Place Health Care and Rehab Center of Grand Island.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home in Grand Island. The Rev. Gretchen Diers will officiate. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Hillcrest cemetery at Norfolk.
Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Monday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the family or to Tabitha Health Care Services.
Mrs. Miller was born on Sept. 30, 1892, to Emil and Ingrid (Ericson) Nelson at Wahoo. She was educated at the Kemmer School by Bloomfield and grew up on a farm southwest of Bloomfield.
She married
John Nannsen on Jan. 14, 1915, at Center. They lived on a farm by Center and later moved to Creighton. In later years, she lived in Sioux City, where she worked in a wholesale warehouse. She then moved to Wayne where she lived and worked in a cafe for three years. She moved to Osmond, where she worked in the high school cafeteria until retiring in 1968.
She married
Harry Miller on Nov. 23, 1945, at Bloomfield. He preceded her in death on May 28, 1952.
She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church. She enjoyed crocheting, tatting and doing fancywork.
Survivors include a daughter, Irene (Mrs. Harold) Steckelberg of Grand Island; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great grandchildren.
Other than her husbands, she was preceded in death by two sisters and seven brothers.
Elva Miller
Elva Ruth (McCullough) Miller, 54, of Grand Island died Friday, Dec. 19, 1997, at St. Francis Skilled Nursing Care Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the chapel of the Higby Mortuary in Aurora. The Rev. Jay Mitchell will officiate. Burial will be in the Aurora Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary.
Mrs. Miller was born on June 27, 1943, to William and Eva (Petet) McCullough at Temple, Texas. She grew up and graduated from Aurora High School.
She married
William Freeman in March 1962. She owned and operated a beauty shop in Sargent.
She married
Zach Miller on Sept. 9, 1983, at Grand Island. They lived in Grand Island and she retired from the Nebraska Veterans Home in 1986.
She was a member of the Aurora First Christian Church.
Survivors include her husband, Zach, of Grand Island; one son, Bill Freeman of Grand Island; three stepsons, Richard Miller of Kearney, Mike Miller of Holdrege and Jimmy Miller; two daughters, Chris Freeman of Lincoln and Brenda (Mrs. Larry) Addison of Phillips; a stepdaughter, Nancy Miller; two brothers, Lee McCullough of Kearney and John McCullough of Central City; a sister, Nancy Nealon of Red Oak, Iowa; two grandchildren and 14 step grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.
Jane Bangs
PHILLIPS -- Jane Bangs, 78, of Phillips died Friday, Dec. 19, 1997, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Kleine Funeral Home. The Rev. Richard Brian will officiate. She was cremated.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to United Methodist Church circle in Phillips.
Mrs. Bangs was born June 29, 1919, to Ambrose and Myrtle (Dixon) Whittington at Brunswick, Ga. As an infant, she moved to California, where she attended school and two years of college in Los Angeles County.
She married
Edwin C. Bangs on July 31, 1943, in San Gabriel, Calif. They lived in Monterey Park, Calif., where she worked as a department clerk for Lockheed Aircraft. They moved to the family farm near Phillips in 1948. She worked in the dietary department for Park Place Health Care and Rehabilitation Center. She also worked as cashier in Lutheran Memorial Hospital's dietary department for 12 years.
She was a member of United Methodist Church in Phillips, where she served as a Sunday school teacher and was active in the church circle. She also was a member of Deepwell Homemakers Club. She enjoyed collecting turtles.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Loren of Phillips and Roy Emanuel of Aurora; one daughter, Joyce (Mrs. Don) Cornelius of Soldotna, Alaska; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Mabel Smith
ALBION -- Mabel L. Smith, 91, of Albion died Saturday, Dec. 20, 1997, at Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Home in Albion.
Services are pending with Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
Mary Stowell
ORD -- Mary Stowell, 89, of Ord died Saturday, Dec. 20, 1997, at Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.
Services are pending with Ord Memorial Chapel.
Connie Walkup
NORTH LOUP -- Connie Walkup, 64, of North Loup died Saturday, Dec. 20, 1997, at Valley County Hospital in Ord.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church in North Loup. The Rev. Melanie Adams will officiate. She was cremated. Burial will be at a later date at Hillside cemetery in North Loup.
There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to North Loup Rescue Unit.
Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Alan "A.J." Dubas
COLUMBUS -- Alan James "A.J." Dubas, 18, of Columbus died Friday, Dec. 19, 1997, from injuries suffered in a car accident near David City.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus. The Rev. Chris Grimmond will officiate. Burial will be in St. Peters cemetery in Fullerton.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus and after 6 p.m. at the church. A vigil is set for 7 p.m. Monday at the church. Visitation will resume at 9 a.m. until service time at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.
Mr. Dubas was born Aug. 22, 1979, to James T. and Terri (Noble) Dubas at Central City. He attended school at Fullerton and later attended Aquinas High School in David City. He was a senior at David City High School. He had lived in David City until September, when he moved to Columbus with his family. He worked at Valentino's in Columbus and at Dubas Refrigeration.
He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus.
Survivors include his father of Columbus; his mother, Terri (Mrs. Ken) Ruff of Grand Island; one stepmother, Diana Dubas of Columbus; five brothers, Rob and Brent Dubas, Benjamin and Scott Dworak and Josh Dion, all of Columbus; one sister, Laurie Dubas of Lincoln; three grandfathers, Frank Dubas of Columbus, Richard Kruse of Leigh and Robert Noble of Fullerton; two grandmothers, Phyllis Dubas of Columbus and Theresa Kruse of Leigh and one great-grandmother, Minnie Kruse of Central City.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Julie Dubas and one grandmother, Mary Ann Noble.
Lucy Hobak
Lucy Hobak, 80, of Central City died Sunday, Feb. 21, at Edgewood Vista in Grand Island. Services are pending with Solt Funeral Home in Central City.
Goldie Ott
Goldie I. Ott, 86, a resident at the Nebraska Veterans Home, died Saturday, Feb. 20, 1999, at the Veterans Home.
Services are pending with Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Vivian Rasmussen
Vivian C. Rasmussen, 85, a resident of Tiffany Square Care Center, died Sunday, Feb. 21, 1999, at Tiffany Square.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday from the chapel at Tiffany Square. The Rev. Vern Rice will officiate.
Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association or Stuhr Museum.
Mrs. Rasmussen was born July 14, 1913, in Franklin to Herbert and Clara Belle (Stever) Mosher. She grew up and received her education in Franklin and graduated from Franklin High School in 1931. She worked as a telephone operator and was a professional pianist.
She married
Ed Rasmussen on Oct. 31, 1942, in Denver. The couple lived in Great Bend, Kan. and Almena, Kan. before moving to Norton, Kan. in 1949.
The couple lived in Norton for 17 years where Mr. Rasmussen was manager of the Foster Lumber Co. They then moved to Grand Island in August 1965.
She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband of Grand Island; two daughters, Rita (Mrs. Jay) Rowh of Beloit, Kan. and Lana (Mrs. Steve) Imes of Lincoln; five grandchildren; and her twin sister, Vera Grace Webb of Grand Island.
