"Dot" Bentley
BURWELL -- Clara Bessie "Dot" Bentley, 95, of Burwell died Sunday, Feb. 21, 1999, at the Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Eberle-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell. Burial will be in Pibel cemetery east of Ericson.
The Rev. Greg Volzke will officiate.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mrs. Bentley was born July 26, 1903, in her Grandmother Babcock's sod house southeast of Ericson to Emmett and Harriett (Babcock) Miller.
She lived in the Dumas and Sheridan area as a child and got her education there.
She married
Alton "Stub" Bentley on July 21, 1927, in Grand Island. They lived in Wheeler and Garfield Counties and ranched until moving to Norfolk in 1960. They later divorced.
She lived in Norfolk until 1990 when she became a resident of the Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell.
She was a hard worker who loved to cook and have friends stop to visit.
Survivors include two daughters, Lois (Mrs. Andy) Emde of Grand Island and Leola (Mrs. Edd) McCain of Burwell; nine grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Floyd Miller of Martin, S.D.; and a special friend of the family, Oscar Hemenway of Norfolk.
She was preceded in death by a twin brother, Clarence Miller; a sister, Mae Hish; a grandson; and two great-grandchildren.
Minnie Carlson
OSCEOLA -- Minnie V. Carlson, 91, of Osceola died Sunday, Feb. 21, 1999.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Osceola. The Rev. Clifford Hoper will officiate. Burial will be in the Swede Home Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Kepner-Roberts Funeral Home.
Mrs. Carlson was born May 8, 1907, in Osceola to Carl and Alice (Linblade) Ekstrom. She graduated with the Osceola class of 1924 and attended York College and Kearney State College.
She married
G. Clarence Carlson on Oct. 14, 1931, in Osceola. They lived on a farm until moving into Osceola in 1980. She was a teacher and housewife.
She was a member of the Immanuel Medical Center Administration Board in Omaha for 10 years and the St. Paul Lutheran Church choir.
She was a Sunday school teacher and superintendent.
Survivors include two sons, Ronald and Paul, both of Osceola; two daughters, Miriam "Mim" Johnson of Grand Island and Nancy Carlson of Minneapolis; five grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1991; three brothers; and two sisters.
"Red" Zalud
ORD -- Marion "Red" Zalud, 72, of Ord died Saturday, Feb. 20, 1999, at Bryan/LGH Medical Center in Lincoln.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Ord United Methodist Church. The Rev. James B. Miller will officiate.
Burial will be in the Cottonwood cemetery at Burwell with military rites by the Ord VFW and American Legion.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Ord Memorial Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association.
Dorothye Walthall
Dorothye E. Walthall, 89, of Grand Island, who taught at Howard Elementary School for 37 1/2 years, died Monday, Jan. 5, 1998, at Tiffany Square Care Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Calvary Assembly of God Church. The Rev. Steve Warriner will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the Abundant Life Christian Center or the donor's choice.
Miss Walthall was born on June 14, 1908, at Wichita, Kan., to Frank F. and Brosia (Fulk) Walthall. She grew up in Phelps County and graduated from Atlanta High School near Holdrege in 1926.
She began nurse's training with the first class that entered Bryan Memorial Hospital in Lincoln in the fall of 1926. Because of family illness, she was not permitted to continue her training.
Miss Walthall received her bachelor of arts degree in education from Kearney State Teachers College. She taught in Nebraska for 44 years. In addition to teaching at Howard Elementary School in Grand Island, she taught in Atlanta and Hyannis.
She did her graduate work at the University of Wyoming in Laramie; Greeley, Colo., Teachers College; Western State College at Gunnison, Colo.; and State Teachers College in Kirksville, Mo.
She was a member of the Nebraska Retired Teachers Association and a past member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society.
As a member of the Abundant Life Christian Center, she was active in women's ministries and hosted a Bible study in her home for 13 years. She taught Sunday school for 30 years. She also enjoyed reading.
Survivors include several cousins.
Velma Boroviak
CLARKS -- Velma Elaine Boroviak, 73, of Clarks died Monday, Jan. 5, 1998, at her home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Clarks. The Rev. Kenneth Vavrina will officiate. Burial will be in the Clarks Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7:30 p.m., with a 7:30 p.m. rosary, Thursday at the church.
Solt Funeral Home in Central City is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Boroviak was born on Dec. 14, 1924, in Woodward, Okla., to Asa J. and Emma T. (Goyen) Ennis. As an infant, she moved with her family to Wheatland, Wyo. She graduated from Wheatland High School in 1942 and then attended one year of college.
She married
Clarence R. Boroviak on May 6, 1946, in Gering. They lived in California while Mr. Boroviak was in the service. After his discharge, they returned to Nebraska and lived in Columbus until moving to Clarks in 1949. Mr. Boroviak died on April 13, 1990.
Mrs. Boroviak was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and had been a member of the Altar Society. She enjoyed gardening, especially growing roses; reading, canning, hunting and playing cards.
Survivors include three daughters, Linda Volkman of Central City, Pauline Williamson of Osceola and Kristine (Mrs. Jay) Marsden of St. Charles, Mo.; four sons, Jim and Danny, both of Central City, and Rick and Tony, both of Clarks; 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Roberta McGarry of Friday Harbor, Wash., and Mary (Mrs. Bob) Timson of Bellevue, Wash.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother.
Ronald Campbell
Wood River -- Ronald D. Campbell, 68, of Wood River died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998, at Mesa, Ariz.
Services are pending for Saturday at St. Mary's Church in Wood River. Apfel Funeral Home in Wood River is in charge of arrangements.
'Dean' Dubas
PALMER -- Edwin "Dean" Dubas, 62, of Palmer died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998, at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Fullerton. The Rev. Richard Whiteing will officiate. Burial will be in the Fullerton Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., with a vigil service at 7 p.m., Thursday at the church.
Palmer's Funeral Home in Fullerton is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mr. Dubas was born on Feb. 10, 1935, in Nance County to Frank and Frances (Szewczyk) Dubas. He grew up and attended country schools.
He married
JoAnn Steenson on Jan. 26, 1954, at O'Connor. They farmed in western Nance County.
He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and Fullerton Eagles.
He enjoyed the Nebraska Cornhuskers and traveling.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Charles and Bill, both of Palmer, Ted of Clay Center and Mike of York; three daughters, Rita Dubas and Janice (Mrs. Rocky) Bridger, both of Fullerton, and Marianne (Mrs. Troy) Hellbusch of Belgrade; 16 grandchildren; eight brothers, Leo and Steve, both of Fullerton, Frank and Dan, both of Columbus, Emil of Palmer, Al of Genoa, Louis of Fullerton and Larry of Grand Island; and three sisters, Anne (Mrs. Louie) Bialas of Fullerton, Leona (Mrs. Al) Kozak of Columbus and Jeanette (Mrs. Ron) Urkoski of Silver Creek.
He was preceded in death by one step grandson and one sister, Helen Kozak.
