Dana Vincent
Stromsburg -- Dana "Popcorn" A. Vincent, 55, of Stromsburg died Friday, May 28, 1999, at St. Francis Memorial Health Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Palmer Funeral Home in Stromsburg. The Rev. Jeff Thurman will officiate. Burial will be in the Stromsburg Cemetery.
'Jug' Anderson
ALMA -- Gus "Jug" Anderson Jr., 68, of Alma died Wednesday, May 26, 1999, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Alma Cemetery. The Rev. Lyn Seiser will officiate.
There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to the Alma Volunteer Fire Department or the Harlan County Hospital.
Banta-Torrey Funeral Home in Alma is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Anderson was born on Oct. 11, 1930, at Albia, Iowa, to Gustav and Edith Mable (Coons) Anderson. He attended school at Albia before moving with his family to Grand Island in 1943. His family moved to Republican City in 1947 and to Alma in 1948.
He served in the U.S. Navy from Dec. 28, 1948, to Dec. 27, 1949, and was then placed on active reserve status. He worked for Peter Kiewit Construction until he was called back to active duty on Aug. 9, 1952, to serve in the Korean War. He was discharged on April 7, 1954.
He married
Arline Louise Abood on May 11, 1958, in Lexington. The family lived in Alma, where he worked in construction. He began working at the Skelly service station on Highway 183 in Alma in 1958, for Shaffer Brothers Implement in 1962 and for Co-op Oil in Alma in 1967. He was a fertilizer equipment sales representative for Alma Oil Co. from 1971 to 1989. He worked for the Alma Water Department from 1989 until he retired in February 1997.
He was a member of the Alma Volunteer Fire Department for 38 years, Fay Cady American Legion Post 118 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5884 in Alma.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Todd of Lubbock, Texas; one daughter, Julie (Mrs. Joseph) Kresser of Stamford; three grandchildren; and two brothers, John of Grand Island and Owen of Oxford.
He was preceded in death three brothers, Jerry as an infant, Frank and Max; and two sisters, Emily Nieman and Betty Anderson as infants.
Victor Campos
Victor Campos, 84, of Grand Island died Tuesday, April 27, 1999, at his home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Cathedral. The Rev. Tom Ryan will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. parish rosary, Thursday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to St. Francis Hospice.
Marvelle Hawkins
Marvelle Hawkins, 60, of Grand Island, a former Custer County and Central City resident, died Sunday, April 25, 1999, at St. Francis Skilled Care.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow. The Rev. John Kunze will officiate. Burial will be in the Ansley Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to St. Francis Hospice or St. Francis Skilled Care nursing unit.
Mrs. Hawkins was born on Jan. 10, 1939, east of Ansley to Harris and Lurene (Daily) Mason. She graduated from Ansley High School and attended Grand Island Community College. She worked at Becton Dickinson in Broken Bow for 25 years, retiring in 1994.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Ansley, which she joined at the age of 10. She was a 4-H leader for 20 years, Job's Daughters council member, Special Olympics volunteer, charter member of Custer Campers NCHA/FCRV and had been a member of the Home Helpers Extension Club.
Survivors include her husband, Raymond of Ansley; four daughters, Veronica (Mrs. Rod) Gartner of Grand Island, Melody (Mrs. David) Falk of Scottsdale, Ariz., Dianne (Mrs. Steve) Collister of Grand Island and Brenda (Mrs. Bryan) Wilson of Central City; one son, Gordon Hawkins of Ansley; 16 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two brothers, Maynard Mason of Grand Island and Lloyd Mason of Denver.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Arlene Mason.
Dagny Jorgensen
Dagny Dahlke Jorgensen, 89, of Grand Island died Monday, April 26, 1999, at St. Francis Memorial Health Center.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church. A family prayer service will be at 12:45 p.m. The Rev. Robert Harms will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the Lutheran High School Association.
Mrs. Jorgensen was born on June 18, 1909, at St. Paul to Chris and Marianna (Paulsen) Christensen. She grew up in St. Paul and was educated at Harmony School.
She married
Raymond Dahlke on April 18, 1937, in Grand Island. The couple lived in Grand Island, where they operated the Dahlke Print Shop. Mr. Dahlke died on Sept. 30, 1959.
She married
Henry Jorgensen on Jan. 22, 1967, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grand Island. The couple lived in Grand Island for a year before moving to St. Paul for 10 years. They then returned to Grand Island. Mr. Jorgensen died on Jan. 2, 1984.
Mrs. Jorgensen was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Ruth Society at the church. She enjoyed ceramics, china painting, crocheting, needlework, cooking, baking and being a homemaker. She was also involved in the Foster Grandparents Program at Jefferson Elementary School.
Survivors include two sons, Dean Dahlke of Bertrand and Richard Dahlke of Chattanooga, Tenn.; two daughters, Beverly (Mrs. Paul) Reher of Omaha and Esther (Mrs. Bill) Ehrsam of Saratoga, Calif.; eight stepchildren; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ann Chambers of Grand Island.
In addition to her two husbands, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Thorwald Christensen and William Christensen; and two sisters, Viola Hannemann and Clara Suesz.
'Sue' Bassham
LOUP CITY -- Walterena "Sue" Bassham, 59, of Loup City died Sunday, April 25, 1999, at Rose Lane Home in Loup City.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Loup City. The Rev. Heidi Revelo will officiate.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Higgins Funeral Home in Loup City.
Private cremation will follow the services.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mrs. Bassham was born on Dec. 14, 1939, at Spur, Texas, to Lewis Walter and Onnie Desie (Siotte) Moore. She grew up and attended school in Dumas, Texas.
She married
Bobby Joe Berd on Jan. 16, 1957, at Amarillo, Texas.
She married
Teddy Jack Bassham Sr. in 1974 at Perryton, Texas. They moved to a farm near Elmwood, Okla., in 1979.
She graduated from McCook Community College in 1986 with an associate's degree in criminal justice. She moved to Loup City in 1991.
She was a member of the Loup City United Methodist Church and enjoyed being involved with church activities. She also enjoyed collecting clowns and doing arts and crafts.
Survivors include three daughters, Dessa Kay Richardson of Tulsa, Okla., Lanessa Lee Hunt of Ord and Laneva Louise Ash of Junction City, Ore.; two sons, Clinton Dois Beard of Cowetta, Okla., and Teddy Jack Bassham Jr. of Ord; 21 grandchildren; three sisters, Maxine Pixler of Kenta, Okla., Sharon Fisher of Golden, Okla., and Dickey Ann Herin of Isabel, Okla.; and one brother, Jack Moore of Bovil, Texas.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Camilla Jaxine Carland; a granddaughter; a sister, Camilla Walker; and two brothers, A.C. and Zandale Moore.
Mabel Fossberg
POLK -- Mabel Fossberg, 78, of Polk died Tuesday, April 27, 1999, at York General Hospital.
Services are pending with Solt Funeral Home in Polk.
Jerry Harris
HASTINGS -- Jerry Harris, 52, of Hastings died Sunday, April 25, 1999, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Butler-Volland Chapel in Hastings. The Rev. Mark Farris will officiate. Burial will be in the Juniata Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday and from 9 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home.
Mr. Harris was born on Aug. 21, 1946, in Grand Island to Ernest C. and Dorothy (Nietfeldt) Harris. He graduated from Hastings High School in 1964. He lived at Juniata for 30 years before recently moving to Hastings. He owned and operated Ernie's Shoe Repair.
He married
Sharon Crosier on June 2, 1998.
He was a member of the Eagles.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Bryan Harris of Hastings and Mike Harris of Juniata; two daughters, Patty McKimmey of Kenesaw and Nikki DA'blaing of Paso Robles, Calif.; two stepsons, Chris Halte of Wichita, Kan., and Allen Halte of Doniphan; three stepdaughters, Brenda Norton of Hastings, Candy Clifton of Juniata and Melissa Danner of Alexandria; 12 grandchildren; his mother, Dorothy Lemke of Hastings; and two brothers, David and Delbert Harris, both of Hastings.
He was preceded in death by two grandchildren; his father, Ernest C. Harris; and his stepfather, Vernon Lemke.
