'Andy' Peterson
SARGENT -- Andrew "Andy" Peterson, 89, of Sargent died Wednesday, March 10, 1999, at Sandhills Manor Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Rhoad Funeral Chapel in Sargent. The Rev. Marvin Peterson will officiate. Burial will be in Lone Tree cemetery in Weissert.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mr. Peterson was born on Aug. 12, 1909, at Weissert to Milton and Mabel (Govier) Peterson. He was educated at a country school near Weissert and later farmed with his father.
He married
Della Pirnie on Sept. 3, 1932, at Loup City. They farmed in the Weissert area. In 1951, they moved to Comstock, where he raised Hereford cattle. They retired and moved to Sargent in 1981. His wife died in October 1998, and he moved to Sandhills Manor Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
He was an avid hunter and enjoyed his Hereford cattle. He was a 4-H leader for many years.
Survivors include four sons, Robert Peterson of Lincoln, Ron Peterson of Spokane, Wash., LeRoy Peterson of Trumbull and Marvin Peterson of Eureka Springs, Ark.; one daughter, Judy (Mrs. Robert) Conder of Montrose, Colo.; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren.; one sister, Ruby McCandless of Broken Bow; and a brother, Pete Peterson of Sargent.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two great-grandchildren; four sisters, Iva Ward, Gladys Clements, Hazel Foust and Ameilia Applegrath; and two brothers, Frank and John.
Minnie Viner
ORD -- Minnie Viner, 83, of Ord died Friday, March 12, 1999, at the Rose Lane Home in Loup City.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Taylor Cemetery. The Rev. Roger Gillming will officiate.
Visitation will be from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Ord Memorial Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the Rose Lane Home.
Naida Watson
ALBION -- Naida Watson, 68, of Albion died Thursday, March 11, 1999, at BryanLGH Medical Center in Lincoln.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the United Church of Christ in Albion. The Rev. Mary Avidano will officiate. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday in Prospect View cemetery in Pierce.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
Nels Swanson
COLUMBUS -- Nels Swanson, 77, of Columbus died Thursday, March 11, 1999, at his home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Luke's United Church of Christ in Columbus. The Rev. Nancy Peebles will officiate. A private family burial is planned with military rites by American Legion Hartman Post 84.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday at Gass-Haney Funeral Home in Columbus and will continue from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church. A family prayer service will be at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Swanson was born on Aug. 23, 1921, at Genoa to John and Emma (Ekstrom) Swanson. He served in the Army from Sept. 14, 1946, to May 18, 1947, in Japan.
He married
Margaret Egger on June 12, 1950, at Grand Island. They farmed in rural Genoa for many years before moving to Columbus. He worked at Columbus Hydraulics and retired in 1987.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Eagles and St. Luke's United Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Jeannie (Mrs. Roland) Johnson of Columbus and Kathy Palensky of Crete; one son, Timothy Swanson of Columbus; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson; and two sisters, Linnea (Mrs. George) Sarwinski of Los Alamos, N.M., and Sylvia (Mrs. Max) Patrick of Genoa.
He was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.
'Buzz' Therien
BREWSTER -- Raymond L. "Buzz" Therien, 64, of rural Brewster died Thursday, March 11, 1999, at his home.
Mr. Therien was cremated.
Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Therien was born on Sept. 9, 1934, at Lincoln to Robert and Edna (Hendricks) Therien. He attended Haines Branch rural school and graduated from high school in Lincoln. Mr. Therien worked for his father at Therien Food Locker in Lincoln.
He married
Dorothy Adkisson in Lincoln before entering the service in January 1954. He was stationed at Camp Pendleton at Oceanside, Calif. After his discharge in January 1957, he returned to Lincoln and worked for his father. He later worked for Chapman and Savage Refrigeration.
He moved to Brewster in 1969. He started Sandhills Service and did refrigeration and mechanical repair.
He sold his business in 1975 and returned to Lincoln. He returned to Brewster in 1987 and lived on the old Zeigler place. He did odd jobs and repair work in the Brewster area.
He was a member of the American Legion in Brewster.
Survivors include one daughter, Patty (Mrs. Larry) Guggenmos of Brewster; one son, Tom Therien of Brewster; five grandchildren; and one brother, Neil Therien of Lincoln.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Dr. Robert Therien and Russell Therien.
Lois Wilson
GOTHENBURG -- Lois Wilson, 85, of Gothenburg, formerly of Grand Island, died Thursday, March 11, 1999, at the Gothenburg Memorial Hospital long-term unit.
Mrs. Wilson was cremated.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Westlawn Memorial Park cemetery in Grand Island. The Rev. Tim Anderson will officiate.
Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home in Grand Island is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Wilson was born on Nov. 23, 1913, in Omaha to Walter S. and Alvina (David) Austin. She was raised in Omaha and graduated from Omaha High School.
She married
R. Donald Wilson on Dec. 21, 1932, in Omaha. The couple lived in Omaha, North Platte and Cozad from 1949 until 1957. The couple moved to Grand Island in 1957. Mr.
Wilson died on Nov. 22, 1974. She moved to Gothenburg in 1993.
Survivors include two daughters, Sandra (Mrs. Marvin) Widholm of Gothenburg and Beverly (Mrs. Robert) Chamberlain of Cedaredge, Colo.; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by one great-grandson and one sister, Dorothy Hess.
Adella Jankovitz
BRUNSWICK, Ga. -- Adella Jankovitz, 92, of Brunswick, Ga., formerly of Aurora, died Friday, March 12, 1999, in Brunswick.
Services are pending with Higby Mortuary in Aurora.
Survivors include a daughter, Dorlene Hopkins of Brunswick; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
