Jolyn Walker
HARVARD -- Jolyn Luth Walker, 37, of Harvard, formerly of Grand Island, died Wednesday, May 13, 1998, at Harvard.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home in Grand Island. The Rev. Ralph Ford will officiate. Burial will be in the Nelson Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to Huntington's disease research.
Klawitter-Price Funeral Home in Nelson is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Walker was born on June 18, 1960, at Denver to Joe and Evelyn (McCutcheon) Luth. She attended West Lawn Elementary School, Grand Island Senior High, Midlands College and Hastings College.
She married
Ralph Klein on April 4, 1981, in Grand Island. He died on Sept. 24, 1982.
She married
James Walker on May 20, 1983, in Independence, Mo.
She was a waitress in Grand Island for many years. She lived in Denver, Grand Island, England, Plattsmouth and Hastings. Although she had lived in Harvard since 1994, most of her life was spent in Grand Island.
She enjoyed music and played tenor saxophone with the Happy Corner Boys Polka Band, the Bill Knights Band, the Grand Island City Band, Grand Island Senior High School Jazz Band and the Midlands College Band.
She was a member of 4-H and the Methodist Youth Fellowship and sang in the church choir.
Survivors include her mother and her foster parents, Newell and Helen Wilhelms of Superior.
Her father died in October 1983.
Evelyn Matthiessen
Evelyn M. Matthiessen, 69, of Grand Island died Tuesday, March 30, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. Eric Ford will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Arthritis Foundation or Diabetes Foundation.
Mrs. Matthiessen was born on Jan. 31, 1930, at Fullerton to Claude and Frances (Sleva) Haskins. She attended school in Fullerton and graduated in 1946.
She married
Marvin E. Matthiessen on Nov. 6, 1949, at Fullerton. With the exception of one year in California, the couple lived in the Grand Island area. She worked for the Nebraska Public Power District for 34 years, retiring in 1993. Mr. Matthiessen died on March 18, 1987.
Mrs. Matthiessen was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
Survivors include three sons, David of Phillips, Terry of Milford and Roger of Grand Island; nine grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and one brother, Clyde Haskins of Geneva.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one grandson.
Lelon Alexander
SILVER CREEK -- Lelon E. Alexander, 87, of Silver Creek died Monday, March 29, 1999, at Columbus Community Hospital.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Silver Creek. The Rev. Larry Biederman will officiate. Burial will be in the Silver Creek cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post 263 of Silver Creek.
Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Wednesday at McKown Funeral Home in Silver Creek. Further visitation will be from 10 a.m. to service time Thursday at the church.
Mr. Alexander was born on Feb. 9, 1912, at Duncan to William and Emma (Leith) Alexander. He graduated from Duncan High School in 1931.
He married
Mildred Boss on Oct. 11, 1941, at Silver Creek. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1942 to 1945.
Following the service, he returned to Silver Creek and worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for 39 years until retiring in 1974.
He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed bowling and horsesh's.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Silver Creek and served on various church boards. He was a 50-year member of American Legion Post 263 in Silver Creek, Senior Citizens, Horsesh' Club, was treasurer of the CCC Veterans and Railroad Club 16.
Survivors include two sisters-in-law, Leona Alexander of Fremont and Velma Sandell of Lincoln; and a special friend, Ella Inselman of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his wife; three brothers, Herman, Ivan Bruce "Pete" and Ray; and one sister, Ruby Warner.
'Barb' Beck
CENTRAL CITY -- Barbara Joanelle "Barb" Beck, 33, of Central City died Sunday, March 28, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Stolley Park Church of Christ in Grand Island. David Bendickson will officiate. A luncheon for friends and relatives will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church.
Burial will be in Pierce Chapel cemetery near Clarks.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Solt Funeral Home in Central City.
Mrs. Beck was born on Oct. 13, 1965, in Grand Island to Orval and Jeanie (Sandquist) Nouzovsky. She graduated from Grand Island Senior High School in 1983 and received her associate of arts degree in accounting from Central Community College in Grand Island.
She married
Steven Roy Beck on April 6, 1985, at the Church of Christ in Grand Island. They lived in Central City. She worked at Plains Irrigation for several years and then at Chief Automotive, where she was working as an electronics technician at the time of her death.
Mrs. Beck was a member of the Stolley Park Church of Christ in Grand Island. She enjoyed the outdoors, camping, fishing, tubing, traveling and taking road trips with her family.
Survivors include her husband; one son, Steven Chad at home; one daughter, Megan LaRhue at home; her parents, of Grand Island; her parents-in-law, Bill and LaRhue Beck of Clarks; two brothers, Orval Dean (Chris) of Pine Bluff, Ark., and Barry Joe (Christie) of St. Joseph, Mo.; and three sisters, Debra Jean (Mrs. Corbin) Erickson of Aurora, Kaylene Rose (Mrs. Jerald) Derr and Joanie Cheryce (Mrs. Robert) Guerrero, both of Grand Island.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Joseph and Rose Nouzovsky and Wesley and Jeanie Sandquist.
Elsie Bosle
BROKEN BOW -- Elsie Marie Bosle, 95, of Broken Bow died Tuesday, March 30, 1999, at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Merna. The Rev. Ron Pederson will officiate. Burial will be in the Litchfield Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
Mrs. Bosle was born on Oct. 16, 1903, at Bradshaw to William and Susan Rena (Collingham) Zanzig. She attended school at Bradshaw. She moved to Sherman County in 1916.
She married
Jake Bosle of Litchfield on July 22, 1925, at Kearney. They lived on a farm southwest of Litchfield. They moved to Broken Bow in December 1962. Mr. Bosle died on Nov. 15, 1976. Mrs. Bosle moved to Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Broken Bow in September 1997.
Mrs. Bosle was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Merna. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing and gardening.
Survivors include one son, Alfred Bosle of Grand Island; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Walker of Grand Island.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one great-grandchild, one brother and three sisters.
