Lois Larson
Lois Larson, 89, of Grand Island, formerly of Broken Bow, died Friday, Feb. 26, 1999, at the Wedgewood Nursing Home in Grand Island.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow. Rev. Doug Jones will officiate. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Govier Brothers.
Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association.
Mrs. Larson was born June 17, 1909, at Wessert to Lawn and Purley (Ellsworth) Montanye. She attended school at Rose Valley Country School and later graduated from Kearney Teacher's School.
She married
John D. Larson on Sept. 6, 1930, at Broken Bow. They lived in Rose Valley and Bethel Union in Custer County. They moved to Broken Bow in 1938 where she made draperies for homes. In 1952, they moved to Grand Island where she continued to make draperies for local furniture stores.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Grand Island, Swinging Islanders Camping Group, and was a 50-year member of the extension clubs in Custer County and Grand Island.
Survivors include two sons, David of Grand Island, John of Lincoln; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, and two sisters, Delma and Flossie.
Goldie Ott
Goldie I. Ott, 86, of Grand Island died Saturday, Feb. 27, 1999, at the Nebraska Veterans Home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Grand Island City Cemetery. The Rev. Jim Keyser will officiate.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Monday until service time at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.
Mrs. Ott was born Dec. 2, 1912, to Roy and Edna (Ankney) Preston at Taylor. She grew up and was educated in Monr' where she graduated from high school. She then worked as a clerk in Lincoln.
She married
Fred Ott on Aug. 21, 1933, in Central City. They moved to Grand Island, then in 1953 moved to California. In 1979, they moved back to Grand Island. She entered the Nebraska Veterans Home in 1989.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
Survivors include three sisters, Lois Miller of Belton, Mo., Juanita Leffers of Columbus and Edna B'k of Glendora, Calif.; and one brother, Lyle Preston of Woodland, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1993 and two brothers, Harry and Glen Preston.
Patrick Kelly
ST. PAUL -- Patrick L. Kelly, 71, of St. Paul, died Saturday, Feb. 27, 1999, at St. Francis Hospital in Grand Island.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in St. Paul. Rev. James Murphy will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery in St. Paul. Visitation will be Monday from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at the church. A wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9 a.m. until service time on Tuesday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Kelly was born Sept. 6, 1927, at Greeley to John and Anna (McGown) Kelly. He was raised in Greeley and attended Sacred Heart School. He drove a beer truck in Grand Island after high school.
He married
Joyce Stoppkotte on Dec. 20, 1950, at Grand Island. He entered the U.S. Army in 1951 and served until 1953. He was stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska. Following his discharge, he owned and operated Kelly's Bar for 18 years in St. Paul. He also worked for Union Pacific Railroad for 38 years. He was a brakeman and later a conductor. He retired in 1992.
He enjoyed sales, auctions, playing cards, and raising cattle.
He was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Church, Knights of Columbus, Carl Mogensen American Legion Post 119, Platte Duetsch Society in Grand Island, and the Eagles Club.
Survivors include his wife; son, Timothy of St. Paul; six daughters, Deborah (Mrs. Walter) Bjorklund of Greeley, Patricia (Mrs. Dave) Nuncio of Grand Island, Kathleen (Mrs. Ron) Schr'der of Grand Island, Donna (Mrs. James) Calvin of St. Paul, Colleen Kelly of St. Paul, Theresa (Mrs. John) Dembowski of Kearney; 22 grandchildren; three brothers, Larry of Long Beach, Calif., Harold of Lincoln, Lyle of Greeley; two sisters, Monica Crockett of Monrovia, Calif., Marie (Mrs. Walter) Naiman of Mission Viejo, Calif.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Maureen; three brothers, Jerry, Charlie, and John.
Hazel Nugent
CENTRAL CITY -- Hazel Nugent, 94, of Central City died Friday, Feb. 26, 1999, at her home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the chapel of Solt Funeral Home in Central City. The Rev. Gilbert Larsen will officiate. Burial will be in the Central City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Nugent was born Nov. 28, 1904, to James P. and Emma Jane (Payne) Haddix in Merna. She grew up in the Broken Bow area and attended school in Custer County.
She married
Charles Kelsey on Jan. 21, 1931, in St. Paul.
On Sept. 2, 1941, she married
Lewis E. Nugent in Grand Island. She lived most of her life in Central City and retired after many years of working in several restaurants including the Lincoln Manor and the Black Cat Cafe in Central City.
She attended the Community Bible Church in Central City. She loved cooking and animals.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Nugent in 1960, three brothers and four sisters.
Mary Stevenson
BROKEN BOW -- Mary E. Stevenson, 84, of Broken Bow died Friday, Feb. 26, 1999, at the Jennie Melham Hospital.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow. Rev. Jim Stark will officiate. Burial will be in the Westerville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Govier Brothers Mortuary and until service time Monday.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.
Mrs. Stevenson was born Nov. 17, 1914, at Westerville to Ira Elmer and Mary Emma (Burge) Hallman. She graduated from Westerville in 1932.
She married
Leland Stevenson on Jan. 4, 1933.
She was a member of United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, Rebekah Lodge, and Custer County Grange.
Survivors include two sons, Lewis of Lexington, Richard of Gilbert, Ariz.; two daughters, Rita Kimball of North Platte, Sue Stevenson of Broken Bown; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
Donald Wilson Jr.
CENTRAL CITY -- Donald Harvey Wilson, Jr., 43, of Central City died Friday, Feb. 26, 1999, at his home.
A memorial prayer service will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Central City. The Rev. Bradley Rick will officiate. Burial will be in the Central City Cemetery. Solt Funeral Home in Central City is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Wilson was born on April 9, 1955, to Donald Harvey and Caroline (Garcia) Wilson Sr. in Wilmington, Del. He was raised in a military family and lived in various places throughout his childhood.
He married
Debra Sue Haith on May 27, 1990, in Syracuse. He moved to Central City about eight years ago. He was in the construction business and was working for Larry Petersen Construction at the time of his death.
He enjoyed drawing, mechanics and building things.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Donald "DJ" Harvey, Robert "Robby" Eugene and Michael Wilson, all of Central City; three daughters, Manda Haith, Donna and Caroline Wilson, all of Central City; his father, Donald Wilson Sr. of Daytona Beach, Fla., and 13 brothers and sisters.
He was preceded in death by his mother and one brother.
