Rachel Oliver
ORD -- Rachel Oliver, 103, of Ord died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999, at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.
Services are pending at Ord Memorial Chapel.
Joyce Pritts
GUIDE ROCK -- Joyce L. Pritts, 71, of Guide Rock died Thursday, Jan. 21, 1999, in Guide Rock.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Red Cloud United Methodist Church. The Rev. Alvin E. Trucano will officiate. Burial will be in the Guide Rock Cemetery.
Simonson-Williams Funeral Home of Red Cloud is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to Tabitha/Hospice or the church memorial fund.
Mrs. Pritts was born on May 8, 1927, in Jewell County, Kan., to James B. and Ada M. (Bacon) Warren. She attended Triumph School in rural Jewell County and graduated from Superior High School in 1945.
She married
Elvin V. Pritts on Sept. 29, 1946. They farmed north of Guide Rock.
Mrs. Pritts was a 50-year member of the United Methodist Church, where she served as secretary of the memorial committee and a Sunday school teacher. She was also a 4-H leader, a member of the F.N. Club and a pink lady for the Webster County Community Hospital.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Janet Holdt-Jamison of Grand Island; two sons, Terrell Pritts of Little Rock, Ark., and Wayne Pritts of Chicago; four grandchildren; two sisters, Irene Howell of Burr Oak, Kan., and Phyllis Lange of Mankato, Kan.; and a brother, Neil Warren of Lindsborg, Kan.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
Ann Tomasiewicz
CENTRAL CITY -- Ann Tomasiewicz, 87, of Central City died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999, at Integrated Health Services in Central City.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Central City. The Rev. Nelson Newman will officiate. Burial will be in the Silver Creek Cemetery.
A wake service will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at the church. Solt Funeral Home of Central City is in charge of arrangements.
Miss Tomasiewicz was born on June 25, 1911, south of Genoa in Nance County to Thomas "Savage" and Julia (Iwan) Tomasiewicz. She was educated in rural Nance and Merrick County schools. She lived most of her life on the family farm northeast of Clarks.
Her father died in 1938, and she, her sister Mary and her mother continued to live on the farm. They raised chickens and tended a very large garden. Her mother died in 1961, and Miss Tomasiewicz and her sister moved to Central City in 1967.
While living in Central City, she provided child care and crocheted rugs.
She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Central City and the Altar Society. She enjoyed crocheting.
Survivors include two brothers, Tony Savage of Central City and Louis Savage of Glendale, Calif.; two sisters, Helen (Mrs. James) Sellers of Houston and Kathryn (Mrs. Albin) Prososki of Osceola.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Frank Savage and Francis and Joe Tomasiewicz; and two sisters, one in infancy and Mary Tomasiewicz.
Paul Larsen
Paul C. Larsen, 94, of Grand Island died Jan. 1, 1999, at St. Francis Memorial Health Center Skilled Care Unit.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Messiah Lutheran Church. The Revs. Gretchen Diers and Douglas Stensby will officiate. Mr. Larsen's body was cremated.
There will be no visitation. Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the church or Stuhr Museum.
Mr. Larsen was born on April 8, 1904, at St. Paul to Lars and Julia (Brock) Larsen. He graduated from St. Paul High School in 1922. After working for a year with the Ulry Talbert Co. of Grand Island, he entered the University of Nebraska, where he was a member of Delta Upsilon fraternity.
He married
Helen Brammann of Omaha on Oct. 14, 1927. They lived in Blair and Bennington until 1932, when they moved to St. Paul, where Mr. Larsen followed his father in the management of the Larsen Lumber Co.
He acquired control of the Pepsi-Cola Bottling Co. in 1955 and moved to Grand Island. He was also associated with his nephew, Harold Rogers, in the Rogers Lumber Co. of Grand Island.
He was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church, where he served as trustee. He was a current member of Messiah Lutheran Church. He was also a member of B.P.O. Elks Lodge 604, the Platt-Duetsche, Rotary Club, Riverside Golf Club, York Rite Masons and Tehamah Shrine Temple.
He was president of the Nebraska Soft Drink Association and the Lumber Merchant Association. He was an early promoter of irrigation projects on the Loup Rivers and lived to see completion of the Farwell project and the North Loup Development.
Survivors include one daughter, Maren (Mrs. Robert) Palmer of Temple, Texas; two grandsons; and four great-grandchildren.
His wife died in 1998. He also was preceded in death by four sisters and one brother.
Nora Wiese
Nora N. Wiese, 89, of Grand Island died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 1999, at Lakeview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at St. Pauls Lutheran Church. The Rev. John Douglas Russell will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 4 to 5 p.m., Thursday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Mrs. Wiese was born on Sept. 11, 1909, at Doniphan to Henry and Emma (Boltz) M'ller. She grew up in Doniphan and attended District 77 School in Hall County.
She married
Donald Wiese on Feb. 25, 1931, at Kearney. They lived on a farm southeast of Doniphan for three years. They moved to a farm south of Grand Island. They moved east of Grand Island to farm in 1941. She moved to Lakeview on July 31, 1997.
She was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church. She enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include her husband; one son, Darold Wiese of Grand Island; one daughter, Marlene (Mrs. Cal) Fuehrer of Grand Island; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Albert M'ller; and four sisters, Elsie Wiese, Clara Becker, Hannah Opp and Rose Dibbern.
Mildred Johnson
ORD -- Mildred Johnson, 74, of Ord died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services are pending at Ord Memorial Chapel.
Warren Mesner
CENTRAL CITY -- Warren Mesner, 74, of Central City, died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 1999, at Litzenberg Memorial County Hospital in Central City.
Services are pending with Solt Funeral Home in Central City.
Wilma Sewing
CENTRAL CITY -- Wilma Johanna Seraphine Sewing, 89, of Central City died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1999, at the Florence Home in Omaha.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Solt Funeral Home in Central City. The Rev. Bradley Rick will officiate. Burial will be in the Central City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Sewing was born on Aug. 24, 1909, in Perryville, Mo., to Gottlieb and Clara (Buettner) Boxdorfer. She attended grade school in Perryville.
She married
Alfred L. Sewing on Nov. 2, 1930. She lived in Missouri until moving to Wood River in 1951. She moved to Central City in 1953.
She worked at the original Woody's Restaurant in Central City for several years. She worked at both East and West Gate Cafes. She also worked at Kate's Root Beer and then at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant, where she retired due to her health.
Mr. Sewing died on June 28, 1971.
Mrs. Sewing was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Central City.
Survivors include five sons, Cletus of St. Louis, Clinton of Omaha, Melvin of Lawrence, Kan., Dale of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Larry of Omaha; two daughters, Euline Davidson of Olivia, Mo., and Shirley (Mrs. Ed) Hammaker of Marysville, Pa.; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Verna (Mrs. Ted) Kohler of Kohler City, Mo.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one great-grandchild.
