Lillian Powell
CINCINNATI -- Lillian C. Powell, 88, of Cincinnati, formerly of Ord, died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 1999, at the Camargo Manor in Cincinnati.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. The Rev. James Warner will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord City Cemetery.
Visitation will be prior to service time Saturday. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to a scholarship fund at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Mildred Knuth
Mildred C. Knuth, 80, of Grand Island died Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998, at Lakeview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Messiah Lutheran Church. The Revs. Gretchen Diers and Douglas Stensby will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Mrs. Knuth was born Sept. 26, 1918, in Hall County to John and Katherine (Wenn) Stueven. She grew up in rural Grand Island and attended District 32 School in Merrick County.
She married
George H. Knuth on Aug. 22, 1943, at Grand Island. The couple farmed in Hall and Merrick counties. They moved to Grand Island in 1962. She worked as a cook for Grand Island Public Schools for 35 years. She enjoyed playing cards.
She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church and the Platt-Duetsche Women's Society.
Survivors include a daughter, Sundra (Mrs. Larry) Burmood of Grand Island; a son, Lyle Knuth of Columbus; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; five brothers, Herman, Carl, John, William and Otto Stueven; and four sisters, Rose Kruse, Frieda Kruse, Erna Boltz and Lillie Sanders.
Sharon Rogers
Sharon A. Rogers, 54, of 2429 1/2 N. Lafayette St., died at her home Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998.
Services are pending with Kleine Funeral Home.
Charles Druery
BROKEN BOW -- Charles Druery, 78, of Broken Bow died Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow. The Rev. James Mote will officiate. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Broken Bow Elk's Youth Activities or the Prairie Pioneer Center.
Mr. Druery was born Sept. 24, 1920, at Gandy to Charles W. and Sylvia (Kelley) Druery. He attended school in Gandy except for a few years when he lived in Idaho. He graduated from Gandy High School in 1940. On Sept. 21, 1940, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was discharged on June 12, 1945.
He married
Gwen Ruby on March 1, 1946 at Stapleton. They lived in Stapleton until 1950, before moving to Broken Bow where he worked for Frank Barney. He installed some of the first rural electricity in that area. In 1967, he started his own business as an electrician. He retired in 1985. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with grandchildren.
He was a member of the Broken Bow Elks B.P.O.E. 1688, American Legion, and First Presbyterian Church of Broken Bow.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Riley of Menlo, Iowa; two daughters, Anita (Mrs. Ron) Schmidt of Anselmo and DeAnn (Mrs. Tom) Christensen of Van Meter, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and a sister, Cora (Mrs. Tommy) Mahoney of Stapleton.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Bonnie McInroy.
George Fritton
ALBION -- George Victor Fritton, 74, of Albion died Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998 at the Boone County Health Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Albion. The Rev. Frank Baumert will officiate. Burial will be in St. Michael's cemetery in Albion.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday at Levander Funeral Home in Albion and after 7 p.m. at the church with wake services and Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to St. Michael's Catholic Church or donor's choice.
Mr. Fritton was born Oct. 23, 1924, in Omaha to Victor E. and Marie (Fox) Fritton. He graduated from Albion High School in 1942. He began college at Creighton University before entering the U.S. Air Force in 1943, serving until July 31, 1945. He returned to Creighton University where he received a bachelor's degree in 1948. He returned to Albion where he went into business with his father and brother. They operated Coca-Cola Bottling and Storz Distributorship until 1960.
On June 20, 1950, he married
Ellen K. Smith in Rawlins, Wyo. He received his master's degree in English from Kearney State College in 1969. He taught school at Petersburg, Humphrey St. Francis, St. Edward, and Lindsay Holy Family. After retiring, he worked in road construction until 1986.
He was a member of the Albion Jaycees and Knights of Columbus, and was the choir and music director at St. Michael's Catholic Church for 37 years. He was a member of "Swing Kings" dance band for 25 years. He was a volunteer fireman and EMT for many years and received the Heroism Award from the Knights of Aksarben in 1976. He served on the cemetery board at St. Michael's cemetery and enjoyed golfing and fishing.
Survivors include his wife; 11 children, Barb (Mrs. Mike) Romberg of Lincoln, Margaret (Mrs. Jim) Martinosky of Waverly, Mike of Silver Creek, Theresa (Mrs. Terry) Fichtner of Bartley, Cecilia (Mrs. Fredrick) Smiley of Ft. Myers, Fla., John of Lexington, Bill of Tamuning, Guam, Veronica Zawistowski of Highlands Ranch, Colo., Anastasia (Mrs. Joe) Krohn of Albion, Mary Agnes (Mrs. Chris) Schafer of McDonough, Ga., and Pete of Norfolk; 23 grandchildren; one great-grandson; a brother, J. Paul of Kearney; and a sister, Tori (Mrs. Dr. Ed) Kos of Kansas City, Mo.
Donald Miller
ORD -- Donald Miller, 71, formerly of the Scotia area, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998, at the Veterans Hospital in Grand Island.
Services are pending at Ord Memorial Chapel.
Josephine Petersen
WOOD RIVER -- Josephine M. Petersen, 84, of Wood River,died Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services are pending at Apfel Funeral Home in Wood River.
Donald Eberi
GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. -- Donald I. Eberi, 65, of Grand Junction, Colo., died Sunday, Dec. 20, 1998 at Aurora, Colo.
There will be no services. Mr. Eberi was cremated.
Mr. Eberi was born Dec. 16, 1933, in Grand Island. He served in the U.S. Army.
He was married
to Norma L. Hair. He lived in Lincoln from 1972 to June 1998, before moving to Grand Junction. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking.
Survivors include a son, Michael E. of Elizabeth, Colo.; a daughter, Elizabeth Basnett of Ravenna; his mother, Helen Eberi of Grand Island; a sister, Mary Scheel of Salinas, Calif.; and eight grandchildren.
Donald Bosserman
Donald Bosserman, 59, of Grand Island died Dec. 20, 1998, at his home.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Fort McPherson National cemetery at Maxwell. Melvin Edwards, commander of Grand Island Chapter 11 and Nebraska state chaplain for the Disabled American Veterans, will officiate.
Kleine Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Military rights will be given by the North Platte Honor Guard.
