Cash Wozniak
ORD -- Cash Wozniak, 85, of Ord died Tuesday, Dec. 22, 1998, at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Ord Christian Church. The Rev. Michael Chase will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord City cemetery with military rites by the Ord Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Ord Memorial Chapel.
Audrey Cady
OMAHA -- Audrey H. Cady, 83, of Omaha died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 1998, at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home in Grand Island. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to service time Monday at the funeral home. The casket will be closed.
Memorials are suggested to Trinity United Methodist Church in Grand Island.
Merriel Longacre
ALLIANCE -- Merriel Alvin Longacre, 78, of Alliance died Monday, Dec. 21, 1998, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Bates-Gould Chapel in Alliance. The Rev. Dan Parrish will officiate. Burial will be in the Alliance cemetery with military graveside rites.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Longacre was born on July 24, 1920, at Hawstone, Pa., to Benjamin Franklin and Effie Mae (Kohler) Longacre.
He served with the 507th Parachute Infantry in France, Germany and Belgium. He was wounded twice in combat and was discharged as a handicapped veteran.
He then worked in civil service at the Alliance Army Air Base as a painter, sign designer and high-level pump operator.
He married
Florence Vandermate on Jan. 7, 1946, in Sterling, Colo.
He graduated from Reppert Business School of Auctioneering and the Universal Trade School of Refrigeration, Heating and Air Conditioning in Omaha.
He lived in Alliance for 52 years and owned Longacre Refrigeration and Air Conditioning.
He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Elks, Eagles, Alliance Volunteer Fire Department, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and Nazarene Church and was an instructor for the American Red Cross.
Survivors include two sons, Dave of Hot Springs, S.D., and Bill of Alliance; three daughters, Lynda Meng of Independence, Mo., Irene (Mrs. Dennis) McKillip of Hay Springs and Sarah (Mrs. Steve) Wagenast of Grand Island; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Eugene of Lincoln and Benjamin of Pennsylvania; and four sisters, Edith and Gladys, both of Pennsylvania, Dorothy of Florida and Helen of Arizona.
His wife died in 1996. He also was preceded in death by one daughter, Joyce; one son, Ron; and two sisters.
Clara Weakland
TECUMSEH -- Clara V. Weakland, 100, of Tecumseh died Tuesday, Dec. 22, 1998, at the Belle Terrace Nursing Home in Tecumseh.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Tecumseh. Burial will be in Holy Rosary Catholic cemetery at St. Mary.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary, Sunday at Wherry Brothers Mortuary in Tecumseh.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mrs. Weakland was born on Dec. 21, 1898, in Johnson County to John and Nellie (Syneska) Lempka. She attended school until the eighth grade.
She lived on a farm near Steinauer before moving to St. Mary.
She married
Alfred Weakland on June 28, 1921, at St. Mary. Mr. Weakland died on Dec. 6, 1980, at Tecumseh.
Mrs. Weakland was a retired homemaker.
She was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church at St. Mary and St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Tecumseh.
She loved to crochet and quilt.
Survivors include one son, Norman Weakland of Grand Island; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one sister, Genevieve (Mrs. Virgil) Begesse of Troy, Kan.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one infant daughter, one infant granddaughter, three sisters and two brothers.
Donald Bosserman Donald Bosserman, 59, of Grand Island died Dec. 20, 1998, at his home.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Fort McPherson National cemetery at Maxwell. Melvin Edwards, commander of the Nebraska State Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and friend will officiate.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Monday at Kline Funeral Home in Grand Island.
Military rights will be given by the North Platte Honor Guard.
Mr. Bosserman was born July 8, 1939, in Orange County, Calif., to Walter and Elsie (Guy) Bosserman. After high school, he entered the U.S. Army and served as a paratrooper from March 7, 1958, to Jan. 5, 1961. During that time he was involved in the food and supplies drop over Berlin.
After he was discharged, he moved to Nevada and became a paramedic on an emergency rescue team. He later moved to Nebraska, and lived in Trenton, Skyler, and Grand Island and also lived in Iowa.
He was a member of the DAV and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by a special friend, Melvin Edwards of Grand Island, and other friends.
Vernon Haun
Vernon Haun, 97, of Grand Island died Friday, Dec. 25, 1998, at Park Place Nursing Home in Grand Island.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, with a 1:15 p.m. Masonic service at Palmers Funeral Home. The Rev. Jim Howland will officiate. Burial will be in the Fullerton Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Monday.
Mr. Haun was born Dec. 20, 1901, at Sioux City, Iowa, to Dan and Cora (Myers) Haun. He attended Belgrade schools and the Grand Island Business College.
He married
Florence Ballinger on March 7, 1925, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and the couple moved to Grand Island soon after.
Mr. Haun worked for Union Pacific Railroad for 30 years, and retired in 1970. The couple traveled with the U.P. Old Timers Club after retirement, and were members of the First Presbyterian Church. Mr. Haun was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Grand Island for 73 years.
Survivors include his wife, Florence.
Mildred Knuth
Mildred C. Knuth, 80, of Grand Island died Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998, at the Lakeview Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Grand Island.
Services are pending with the Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
