"Sammy" Mayhew
ST. PAUL -- Norma Beatrice "Sammy" Mayhew, 59, of St. Paul, formerly of Ericson, died Friday, Dec. 12, 1997, at the Howard County Community Hospital in St. Paul.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Ord Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Roger Leavitt will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Hillside cemetery in North Loup.
Mrs. Mayhew was cremated. There will be no visitation.
Memorials are suggested to the United Parkinson Foundation.
Mrs. Mayhew was born Sept. 5, 1938, in North Loup to Martin and Dolly (Johansen) Markvicka. She attended North Loup Public Schools and graduated from North Loup High School in 1956.
After graduation, she moved to Reno, Nev., where she lived for 14 years. In 1972, she moved to Ericson, where she lived until becoming a resident of the Heritage Living Center in St. Paul.
Survivors include her mother Dolly Markvicka of North Loup; three daughters, Morgan Ann Endecott of Belmond, Iowa, Kim Kadavy of Prague and Molly Mayhew of Prague; two brothers, Martin "Hank" Markvicka of Grand Island, and Jim Markvicka of Ericson; three sisters, Janet Rush of Ericson, Beverly Hetfield of Cairo, and Mary Schmeits of Ericson; and 10 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father and an infant sibling.
"Bill" Scranton
THEDFORD -- Harvey William "Bill" Scranton, 65, of Thedford died Friday, Dec. 12, 1997, at his ranch near Thedford.
Services will be at noon Tuesday at the United Church of Christ in Thedford. The Rev. Linda Martin will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in the Hillcrest Cemetery.
Govier Brothers Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. to service time at the church.
Memorials have been established with the United Church of Christ in Thedford or the donor's choice.
Josephine Stejskal
ALBION -- Josephine R. Stejskal, 103, of Albion died Saturday, Dec. 13, 1997, at the Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Home in Albion.
Services are pending with Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
Clark Caley
CLARKS -- Clark Caley, 64, of Clarks died Saturday, Dec. 6, 1996.
Services are pending with Solt Funeral Home in Central City for Thursday.
Rose Cyboron
BOELUS - Rose E. Cyboron, 83, of Boelus died Friday, Dec. 5, 1997, at her home in Boelus.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Dannebrog. The Rev. Robert Carlson Jr. will officiate. Burial will be at 2 p.m. at Westlawn Memorial Park in Grand Island.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul.
Memorials are suggested to the church, St. Francis Hospice, or to the family.
Mrs. Cyboron was born on Aug. 17, 1914, to Anker and Kjerstina (Sorensen) Hansen at Boelus. She was raised in Boelus and attended Boelus public schools. She then worked with her family running the Central Telephone Phone Service in Boelus.
She married
Adolph Cyboron on April 30, 1938, at Castle Rock, Colo. The couple lived in Colorado and then returned to the Boelus area where they farmed from 1943 to 1975. In 1975, they moved into Boelus.
She was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, the Deborah Church Cirlce in Dannebrog and the American Legion Auxiliary Post 201 of Boelus. She enjoyed cooking and baking.
Survivors include three sons, George of Boelus, Jim of Grand Island, and Dean of Norfolk; one daughter Patricia (Mrs. Glen) Hansen of Farwell and eight grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Nov. 16, 1994; five brothers, Edward, Soren, Peter, Bill and Christian Hansen and five sisters, Anna Jensen, Emma Rickard, Mary Wieczorek, Ellanora Wieczorek and Agnes Bremer.
Alex Reinhardt
CAIRO -- Alex Reinhardt, 81, of Cairo died Saturday, Dec. 6, 1997, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services are pending with Apfel Funeral Home in Cairo.
Mildred Cartwright
Mildred Elinor Cartwright, 75, of Grand Island died Friday, Oct. 9, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Higby Mortuary chapel in Aurora. The Rev. Joel Schr'der will officiate. Burial will be in Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at the mortuary.
Mrs. Cartwright was born Feb. 5, 1923, to Swan B. and Edith (Nordell) Nelson on the family farm near Marquette. She attended Bluffs School southwest of Marquette and Sutherland High School. The family later moved to California
She married
Frank Sigona. They moved to Nebraska in 1953. He died on March 4, 1970.
She moved to Ava, Mo., in 1973 and worked as a nurse's aide. She married
Redick Cartwright. After his death on Nov. 4, 1982, she returned to Aurora and worked at Memorial Community Care Center in Aurora. She retired in 1989 and moved to Grand Island.
Survivors include one son, Joe Sigona of Aurora; one daughter, Carole (Mrs. Jim) Etherton of Doniphan; four granddaughters; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Irving Nelson of Aurora and a special friend, Ray Clark of Grand Island.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by one brother, Stanley and four sisters, Mayme Nelson, Ruth Peterson, Eileen Morrison and Dorothy Nelson as an infant.
Doug Miller
DONIPHAN -- Douglas H. Miller, 38, of Doniphan died Friday, Oct. 9, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center as the result of a two-vehicle accident south of Grand Island.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rising City. The Rev. Mark Lindloff will officiate. Burial will be in the Faith West cemetery in rural Rising City.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Kepner-Roberts Funeral Home in Osceola.
Mr. Miller was born on May 20, 1960, to Maynard and Delores (Schmidt) Miller at Osceola. He graduated from Polk High School in 1979. He lived in Doniphan for the last four years after living in Grand Island.
He was employed by Great Lakes Redi Mix in Grand Island. He also worked at Third City Auto and was a carrier for The Grand Island Independent.
He was a member of the Lutheran church and a member of the Academy of Model Aeronautics.
Survivors include his parents of Polk; two brothers, Allen of Gresham and Kevin of Polk; and one sister, Susanne Miller of Lincoln.
Viola Smith
FULLERTON -- Viola A. Smith, 95, of Fullerton died Thursday, Oct. 8, 1998, at her daughter's home in Harvard.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Palmer's Funeral Home in Fullerton. The Rev. Larry Phillips will officiate. Burial will be in the Fullerton cemetery in Fullerton. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Palmer's Funeral Home in Fullerton.

Mrs. Smith was born on Nov. 13, 1902, to Nelson H. and Clara (Hoyt) Brown in Clay Center. She grew up east of Fairfield and attended country school in Clay County.
She married
Len Smith on Feb. 25, 1925, in Mankato, Kan. They lived in Clay and Nancy counties. He died on April 4, 1978. She remained in Fullerton until June when she moved to Harvard to live with her daughter. She enjoyed making quilts, reading, baseball and watching rodeos.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Fullerton.
Survivors include two sons, Ivan Smith of Scotia and Orville Smith of Dell Rapids, S.D.; three daughters, Bertha (Mrs. Lloyd) Ljungren of Harvard, Shirley (Mrs. Donald) Ljunggren of Dell Rapids, S.D., and Norene (Mrs. William) Holmstedt of Genoa; one brother, Olin Brown of Norfolk; one sister, Dorothy Franks of Broken Bow; 26 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by three sons, Irvin, Melvin and Claire Smith; two brothers, Milton and Ralph Brown; one grandchild and six great-grandchildren.
