Anna Ley
Anna F. Ley, 77, of 803 Alpha No. 124 died Sunday, Sept. 20, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Lincoln with the Rev. Michael Houlihan officiating. Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home in Grand Island. A rosary will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Jim Schmidt officiating.
Mrs. Ley was born on Oct. 4, 1920, at Sioux City, Iowa, to Charles and Hazel (Spring) Mooney. She moved with her family to Hastings, where she attended school. She graduated from St. Cecilia Catholic School and Mary Lanning School of Nursing in Hastings.
She married
John Ley on April 4, 1944, at Roswell, N.M. They lived in Lincoln from 1954 until his death in 1996. She moved to Grand Island in 1996. She was head nurse in the recovery room at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Lincoln.
She was a 38-year member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Lincoln and more recently belonged to Resurrection Catholic Church in Grand Island.
Survivors include one son, Mike Ley of Grand Island; four grandchildren; two brothers, Charles Mooney of Penn Valley, Calif., and Tom Mooney of Hastings; and one sister, Mary (Mrs. Les) Hemberger of Hastings.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
Harold Sjoholm
I. Harold Sjoholm, 87, of 1915 S. Arthur died Sunday, Sept. 20, 1998, at Community Care of Grand Island.
Services are pending with Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Julia Snyder
Julia A. Snyder, 71, of 1907 Waugh died Sunday, Sept. 20, 1998, in the skilled care unit at St. Francis Memorial Health Center.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Robert Harms officiating. A family prayer service will be at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday in the church chapel. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Snyder was born on Jan. 28, 1927, at Beemer to Otto and Clara (Keisling) Rabbass. She attended school in Wisner. She worked on the family farm until 1946, when she moved to Grand Island.
She married
Joseph Snyder on April 23, 1949, at St. Paul. She worked at the Yancey Hotel, Max Coffee Shop, Allen's Drug Store and Skagway North for more than 26 years. Mr. Snyder died in 1973.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Survivors include one son, Craig L. Snyder of Grand Island; two step-daughters, Jolene (Mrs. Rex) Medley and Elizabeth Snyder, both of Omaha; four step-granddaughters; three step-great-grandsons; and one sister, Lavana Vollmer of Wisner.
She was preceded in death by her husband; an infant sister; two sisters, Angela and Deloris; and one brother, LeRoy Rabbass.
Shannon Anderson
WOLBACH -- Shannon L. Anderson, 27, of Wolbach died Friday, Sept. 18, 1998, in an automobile accident six miles north of Wolbach.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church in Wolbach with the Revs. Ken West and Ronald Shubert officiating. Burial will be in Hillside cemetery in Wolbach.
Visitation will be before service time at the church. Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mrs. Anderson was born on Aug. 26, 1971, at Ypsilanti, Mich., to Gary and Penny (Thacker) Warmanen. She attended school in Ypsilanti and graduated from high school there in 1989. She attended nursing school at Eastern Michigan University. She also attended the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
She married
Arthur Anderson Jr. in Wolbach on May 25, 1996. They lived on a farm north of Wolbach. She worked for nursing homes in Greeley and Kearney, the Bank of Omaha in Kearney and U-Save in Kearney. At the time of her death, she was a secretary at S.E. Smith and Sons lumber in St. Paul. She enjoyed her family, writing poems and water skiing.
Survivors include her husband of Wolbach; one son, Trae of Wolbach; her parents, Gary and Penny Warmanen of Ypsilanti, Mich.; grandparents George Thacker of Pinckney, Mich., Sanna Warmanen of Ann Arbor, Mich., Mary Bloom of Pinckney, Mich., and Dorothy Johnson of Grand Junction, Colo.; one sister, Carrie Thurman of Ypsilanti, Mich.; and one brother, Gary of Belleville, Mich.
Thelna Houston
ST. PAUL -- Thelna Houston, 89, of St. Paul died Sunday, Sept. 20, 1998, at Harvard Rest Haven in Harvard.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Peters Funeral Home in St. Paul with the Rev. Brian Houston officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Greenwood cemetery at York.
Visitation is from 3 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Paul Library, the First Presbyterian Church or St. Paul emergency medical technicians.
Mrs. Houston was born on Oct. 20, 1908, north of York to James and Minnie (Brown) Arnold. She attended York County School District 63 and graduated from York High School. She attended Hastings College for three years and graduated from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in 1931. In later years, she received graduate credits from the University of Wisconsin, University of Nebraska-Lincoln and State University of Iowa.
After finishing her education, she taught school for four years at Doniphan High School and one year at Cedar Rapids High School.
She married
Lawrence "Larry" Houston on Aug. 1, 1936, at York. They lived in Omaha and later moved to a farm north of York. In December 1941, they moved to St. Paul. They lived in Bridgeport and Holdrege. In 1946, they moved to a farm north of Boelus. In 1957, they moved to McCook, where she taught at McCook Senior High. In 1959, the family returned to St. Paul. She taught at Palmer High School from 1960 to 1970.
Mr. Houston died on Aug. 8, 1966.
After retiring, she was active in church and community activities and wrote poetry for many occasions and programs. Many poems were published in magazines. She continued to live in St. Paul until December 1993, when she moved to Harvard Rest Haven.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in St. Paul, served on the St. Paul Library Board for 11 years, was a member of a national retired teachers' association, Howard County Hospital Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, Howard County Historical Society, Nebraska Wildlife Federation and National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
Survivors include one daughter, Linda (Mrs. Leonard) Litwin of Grand Island; twin sons, Barry Houston of Harvard and Rev. Brian Houston of Beaver Crossing; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and one brother, Orlan Arnold.
Helen Myers
ORD -- Helen Myers, 90, of Ord, formerly of Denver, died Saturday, Sept. 19, 1998, at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.
Services are pending at the Ord Memorial Chapel.
Margaret Rubesh
PALMER -- Margaret A. Rubesh, 67, of Palmer died Saturday, Sept. 19, 1998, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in St. Paul with the Rev. Mike McDermott officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery at Palmer. Visitation is from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Palmer's Funeral Home in Palmer with an 8 p.m. rosary.
Edith McCleery
LITTLETON, Colo. -- Edith B. McCleery, 94, of Littleton, Colo., died April 16, 1998, in Denver, Colo.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Parkview cemetery in Hastings.
Aspen Mortuary of Golden, Colo., is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to donor's choice.
Mrs. McCleery was born Sept. 26, 1903, at Boycourt, Kan. to Emma and Frank Noble.
She married
Wayne C. McCleery in 1920. She lived in Hastings until 1970 and then moved to Grand Island until 1980. Her remaining years were in the Denver area.
She had been a member of the Christian Church of Hastings and Grand Island, Does Auxilary of the Elks and a volunteer with the American Red Cross.
Survivors include one son, Don E. of Littleton; seven grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Bill Noble of Grand Island.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one son; one grandson; two sisters; and one brother.
