Arthur Trihy
GRETNA -- Arthur W. Trihy, 93, of Gretna, formerly of Grand Island, died Sunday, May 24, 1998, at his home in Gretna.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Gretna. The Rev. Dan Soltys will officiate. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre cemetery at Gretna.
The rosary will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Heafey-Heafey-Hoffman Funeral chapels.
Mr. Trihy was born Feb. 5, 1905 to Michael J. and Mary E. (McDonald) Trihy at Gretna. He graduated from Gretna High School in 1923.
He married
Margaret G. Grote on Sept. 7, 1936. They moved to Grand island and lived there until the death of Mrs. Trihy in 1977. Mr. Trihy then moved to Gretna.
He was a retired N.W. Bell Telephone Company employee and a lifetime member of the Telephone Pioneers. He was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral in Grand island, St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Gretna and a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include one daughter, Sheila (Mrs. Steve) Rhoades of hood River, Ore.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Margaret Keim of Omaha.
Cecilia Waltman
CRETE -- Cecilia Waltman, 81, of Crete, formerly of Farwell, died Monday, May 25, 1998.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Crete. Kuncl Funeral Home of Crete is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Waltman was born May 17, 1917, at Farwell to Felix and Veronica Kezeor.
She married
Howard Waltman at Farwell. Mr. Waltman died in 1996.
Survivors include three sons, Lou of Lincoln, Terry of Crete and Bob of Stromsburg; one daughter, Vernette Waltman of Wichita, Kan.; and eight grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son, two brothers and two sisters.
Lola Erhardt
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Lola E. Leavell Erhardt, 69, of Jefferson City, Mo., formerly of Grand Island, died Monday, May 25, 1998, at St. Mary's Health Center.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. John Hobratschk will officiate. Burial will be in Riverview cemetery at Jefferson City.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Houser-Millard Jefferson City Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church or St. Mary's Health Center Cardiac Care.
Mrs. Erhardt was born Feb. 3, 1929, in Alma to Herman Floyd and Blanche (Parker) Moore. She was a 1946 graduate of Grand Island High School.
She married
Arvelle Leavell on June 7, 1947. She was a homemaker while her husband served in the military. Mr. Leavell died Jan. 18, 1981.
She was a legal secretary in Savannah, Ga. She was a loan officer at the Missouri National Guard Credit Union in Jefferson City from 1979 until her retirement in 1989. She married
Calvin Erhardt on May 10, 1991.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Debby Leavell of Columbia, Mo., and Leslie Leavell of Jefferson City; one step son, Richard Erhardt of Jefferson City; three step daughters, Karen O'Donnell of Fulton, Mo., Janice Kelly of Wright City, Mo., and Lisa Burns of Florence, Ky.; two sisters, Lela Hurley and Neta Jensen of Grand Island.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Harley Moore, Merle Moore and Floyd Moore.
Violet Rohrig
LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Violet Mae Rohrig, 75, of Long Beach, Calif., died Jan. 18, 1998, at her home.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Ord Christian Church in Ord. Burial will be in the Ord City Cemetery. Following the service, guests are invited to attend a reception at the home of Raymond and Joy Guggenmos.
Mrs. Rohrig was born May 29, 1922, on a sandhills farm outside of Ord to David and hazel (Philbrick) Guggenmos. She taught school in a one-room schoolhouse after graduating from Ord High before moving to Southern California in 1940.
She married
Albert Rohrig. She retired in 1990 from the Forty-Niner University Bookstore at California State University at Long Beach, where she had worked since 1964.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Rick and Jim Rohrig; one sister, Lela Jones; three brothers, Bernard, Lloyd, Raymond and Darrel Guggenmos; and three grandchildren.
Margaret Fuss
O'FALLON, Mo. -- Margaret Elaine Fuss, 74, of O'Fallon, Mo., formerly of Grand Island, died May 12, 1998, at St. Luke's Hospital in Chesterfield, Mo.
Services were May 15 at the Baue Chapel of O'Fallon. Burial was in the National cemetery at St. Louis, Mo.
Memorials are suggested to donor's choice.
Mrs. Fuss was born Nov. 28, 1923, at Grand Island to John and Nellie (Hughes) K'dher. She attended Platte Elementary School and R.J. Barr Junior High School. She graduated from Grand island Senior High School in 1941.
Following high school graduation, she worked for the United States Air Force in Grand Island and in San Bernardino, Calif.
She returned to Grand Island and married
Calvin Henry Fuss in 1941. She worked at Dreisbach's Restaurant and Bosselmann and Eaton's Truck Stop Restaurant as a waitress.
In 1951 she contracted polio and was hospitalized at St. Francis Hospital for four months. She was in an iron lung for much of this hospitalization. She then convalesced at home and after 6 months of physcal therapy, she learned how to walk again. Her husband Calvin, was employed by her father-in-law, Henry Fuss, who owned and operated the Koenig Street Grocery in Grand Island.
In 1954, the family moved to York where Mr. Fuss was employed by The National Biscuit Company. In 1962, the family moved once again, this time to Millard. While living there she worked for the Brandeis Department Store Warehouse. In 1968, the family moved to St. Louis, Mo. where she was employed by the Famous-Barr Warehouse. She retired in 1976 and pursued hobbies of quilting and doll house furniture making.
While living in York, she was a member of the PTA and enjoyed playing bridge.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Calvin of Omaha and Kirk of Golden, Colo.; two daughters, Diana R. Eason of University City, Mo. and Vicky J. (Mrs. Kevin) McGraw of St. Peters, Mo.; one sister, Jeanne Legg of Omaha; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Clem Waring
SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Clem Waring, 89, of Sacramento, Calif. formerly of Broken Bow, died Jan. 11, 1998, in Sacramento, Calif.
Mr. Waring was cremated.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Broken Bow Cemetery. The Rev. Cliff Reynolds will officiate. Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Waring was born April 9, 1908 to Albert William and Stella May Waring in Aurora.
He married
Fern Burnett at Loup City on Jan. 1, 1932. He farmed for a few years in that area. In 1937, he moved his family to Idaho. When World War II broke out he accepted a position with Lockheed Aircraft in Southern California. He retired from Lockheed after 32 years of service.
After his retirement the family moved to Auburn, Calif. Mr. Waring enjoyed working with the welder, auto mechanics and redwood burl table finishing, He also enjoyed fishing and gardening.
Survivors include two sons, Duane and Irvin of Sacramento, Calif.; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and three step grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; two brothers and one sister.
Harold Harder
Harold J. Harder, 70, of Grand Island died Thursday, June 25, 1998, at Park Place Health Care and Rehab Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Pauls Lutheran Church. The Rev. John Russell will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 3 to 5 p.m., Sunday at Kleine Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Mr. Harder enjoyed repairing electrical items, yard work, gardening and dogs, especially the companionship of his dog, Gem. He was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1347, American Legion Post 53, Am Vets and Liederkranz Club.
Survivors include two sons, David Harder of North Platte and Brad Harder of Grand Island; five grandchildren; one brother, Robert "Bob" Harder of Brush Prairie, Wash., and two sisters, Kathryn (Mrs. Wallace) Johnson and Darlene Spath, both of Grand Island.
