John Holland
John W. Holland, 72, formerly of Prescott, Ariz., died Thursday, June 25, 1998, at the V.A. Medical Center in Grand Island.
Military grave side services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Ft. McPherson National cemetery at Maxwell. Military rites will be by the North Platte Honor Guard.
Mr. Holland was born Feb. 26, 1926, in Hastings to Wirta and Katherine (Stroh) Holland. He grew up and went to school in Hastings. He entered the U.S. Navy on July 11, 1944 and served as an SIC and FIC Telephone Talker and Fireman First Class. He was discharged on Feb. 3, 1946 and made his home in Lincoln where he worked as an Engineer Aide for the Department of Roads.
He retired in 1988 and moved to Arizona. He recently returned to Nebraska due to ill health.
He was a member of the USS Franks DD554 Association.
Survivors include a son, Geoffrey of Lincoln; and an aunt, Gladys Fuhrmeister of Nashville, Ind.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a half brother.
Ethel Baker
BROKEN BOW -- Ethel Baker, 76, of Broken Bow died Friday, June 26, 1998, at Bryan Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at United Methodist Church in Broken Bow. The Rev. Cliff Reynolds will officiate. Burial will be in Broken Bow Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow. Memorials are suggested to United Methodist Church in Broken Bow.
Mrs. Baker was born April 26, 1922, to Elmer E. and Nellie Marie (Martin) Nelsen at Berwyn. She attended school and graduated from Berwyn High School in 1939. She then attended Hastings College for one year.
She married
Dale Baker on June 30, 1946, at Broken Bow. They lived in Broken Bow since then.
She was a member of United Methodist Church, Outreachers and United Methodist Women. She served as financial secretary and a Sunday school teacher at the church and had other church offices. She also was treasurer of American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include her husband; one son, Ron of Kansas; two daughters, Barbara (Mrs. Mark) Cooper of Broken Bow and Nancy (Mrs. Scott) Dietrich of Brighton, Colo.; eight grandchildren and one sister, Marjorie Bartels of Lincoln.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Helen.
Hattie Kwiatkowski
LOUP CITY -- Hattie H. Kwiatkowski, 81, of Loup City died Friday, June 26, 1998, at Rose Lane Home in Loup City.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church in Hazard. The Revs. Jan Smutny, Loren Pohlmeier and Reginald A. Urban will officiate. Burial will be in Hazard Cemetery.
Christian wake services will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the church.
Rasmussen Mortuary in Ravenna is in charge of arrangements.
Ruth Hodtwalker
Ruth Hodtwalker, 74, of Grand Island died Tuesday, June 16, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Memorial services are pending with Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Survivors include two sons, Richard Hodtwalker of Grand Island and James Hodtwalker of Texas; one foster son, Les Grotzky of Wilton, Iowa; two daughters, Julie Blanke of Santa Fe, N.M., and Elaine Mainwaring of Nederland, Colo.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three step grandchildren.
'Nanna' Potter
Margaret B. "Nanna" Potter, 86, of 508 S. Shady Bend Road died Tuesday, June 16, 1998, at the Skilled Care Unit of St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Larry Adams will officiate. Burial will be in the Phillips Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to St. Francis Skilled Care of the Grand Generation Center.
Mrs. Potter was born on June 12, 1912, in Aurora to Levi and Susie (Ireland) Humrich. She grew up and was educated in Aurora.
She married
Norris L. "Shorty" Potter on Oct. 16, 1931, in Smith Center, Kan. The couple lived in Phillips for a short time and then moved to Grand Island. She managed Lakeside Dog Kennels in Grand Island for 20 years.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Her hobbies included being a rock hound.
Survivors include one daughter, Janet Twomey of Grand Island; one granddaughter; one great-granddaughter; and one great-great-grandson.
Her husband died in 1993. She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Charlie and Dwight; and five sisters, Vonnie, Edith, Vivian, Emma and Marie.
Donald Coslor
SARGENT -- Donald Coslor, 77, of Sargent died Monday, June 15, 1998, on his way to the Sargent District Hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Rhoad Funeral Chapel in Sargent. The Revs. Samm Johnston and Denny Brechbill will officiate. Burial will be in West Union cemetery with military graveside services.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mr. Coslor was born on March 21, 1921, at the Coslor homestead in West Union to Earl A. and Sarah (Abernethy) Coslor. He attended grade school at West Union and graduated from Sargent High School in 1938.
He ranched before entering the U.S. Army Air Force in 1942. He served until 1945.
He married
Billie Stewart on May 24, 1947, at Fremont. They lived in the Doris Lake area of West Union. They moved to Sargent in 1995. They had wintered in Apache Junction, Ariz., since 1993.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Sargent, Sargent American Legion Post 104, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7028, Masonic Lodge of Broken Bow, Elks Lodge of Broken Bow and 40 and Eight No. 136. He was past state commander of the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Bruce of Sargent and Errol of Kearney; a daughter, JacE Coslor of Sargent; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two sisters, Elsie Metcalf of Tarzana, Calif., and Dorothy Solt of Sargent; and one brother, Rex of Mount Vernon, Wash.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Florence; and a brother, Gerald.
Kelly Spotts
PHILLIPS -- Kelly Dean Spotts, 35, of Phillips, formerly of Giltner, died Tuesday, June 16, 1998, at his home.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Giltner United Methodist Church. The Rev. Paul Nauman will officiate.
There will be no visitation. Higby Mortuary of Aurora is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Spotts was born on Sept. 21, 1962, at Jefferson, Iowa, to Charles W. Spotts and Margaret (White) Moore.
He spent most of his life in Giltner and graduated from Giltner High School in 1981. He served in the U.S. Army as a military policeman from 1983 to 1987.
He married
Samantha Schrock of Giltner on Nov. 4, 1996, at Aurora. They had recently moved to Phillips, where he was employed as an over-the-road trucker.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Savannah of Phillips; one son, Kyle, and a stepdaughter, Krystle Smith, of Giltner; his mother, Margaret (Mrs. Charley) Moore of Giltner; his father, Charles W. Spotts of Des Moines, Iowa; two brothers, Joe Moore of Albuquerque, N.M., and Spc. Larry Moore of Fort Lee, Va.; three sisters, Terry (Mrs. Mike) Roberts of Giltner, Barb (Mrs. Gary) Braun and Donna (Mrs. Brad) Rasmussen, both of Minden; five stepsisters, Karla Thacher, Linda Johnson, Marie Bennett, Connie Andreas and Christy Bruce; and his paternal grandmother, Jaunita Spotts of Ames, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Charles E. Spotts; his maternal grandparents, Verlyn and Edith White; and his step grandparents, Oscar and Mary Moore.
