Donald Bierhaus
Donald Bierhaus, 73, of Grand Island died Tuesday, May 11, 1999, at his home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church. The Rev. Daniel Bremer will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mr. Bierhaus was born on Jan. 20, 1926, at Campbell to Leslie and Emma (McCoy) Bierhaus. He grew up and was educated in Campbell.
He entered the U.S. Army on July 24, 1944, and served during World War II. He was wounded on April 26, 1945, at Okinawa, Japan. He received the Purple Heart, APTC ribbon and a Bronze Service Star. He was discharged on Oct. 29, 1945.
He married
Elaine Bartels on Aug. 14, 1947, at Campbell. The couple lived in Campbell, where he worked for Bud's Market for many years.
He then owned and operated Don's Locker in Campbell for 16 years. They moved to Grand Island in 1966, and he worked for Sperry New Holland. He retired on Nov. 7, 1987, and suffered a stroke in 1988.
He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, the Platt-Duetsche Society, Doniphan Legion Post 300, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10755, Nebraska Sheriff's Association and the Saddle Club. He was a life member of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 11 and Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 632. He enjoyed playing cards.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Dean of Grand Island and Leroy "Lee" of Lander, Wyo.; two daughters, Ann (Mrs. Terry) Ottman and Sheila Wieland, both of Grand Island; nine grandchildren; seven step great-grandchildren; two brothers, Milford of Campbell and Robert of Lincoln; and three sisters, Helen Anderson of Holdrege, Velma Mattison of Campbell and Alta Henk of Western.
Wilma Oliver
Wilma A. Oliver, 80, of Wedgewood Care Center died Tuesday, May 11, 1999, at Wedgewood.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Revs. Robert Harms and John Reehl will officiate. A family prayer service will be at 1:45 p.m. in the chapel of the church. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Mrs. Oliver was born on Aug. 18, 1918, in Hooper to Cornelius and Hulda (Degner) Schwein. She was educated in Uehling and graduated from Uehling High School in 1936.
After her education, she lived and worked in Omaha.
She married
Andrew Oliver on Dec. 9, 1939, in Omaha. The couple then moved to Grand Island, where Mrs. Oliver was executive secretary for the Bureau of Reclamation.
She loved to sew, travel and play bridge.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Trinity Lutheran Ruth Society and the Trinity Lutheran Altar Guild.
Survivors include one son, David Oliver of Denver; one daughter, Connie Wood of Evanston, Ill.; one granddaughter; and four sisters, Luella Dau of Scribner, Hertha Karel of Pilger and Irene Wedergren and Ruth Nicholson, both of Omaha.
Her husband died in November 1998. She also was preceded in death by three brothers, Edwin Schwein, Oscar Schwein and Martin Schwein.
Elaine Allison
SARGENT -- Elaine Z. Allison, 80, of Sargent died Tuesday, May 11, 1999, at Sandhills Manor in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Rhoad Funeral Chapel in Sargent. The Rev. Walt Collins will officiate. Burial will be in the Gates Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Edna McClure
CENTRAL CITY -- Edna Marie McClure, 85, of Central City died Tuesday, May 11, 1999, at her home.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Burke Cemetery. The Rev. Debra Tompsett-Welch will officiate.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Friday at Solt Funeral Home in Central City.
Mrs. McClure was born on March 26, 1914, near Palmer to William Lee and Dora Ann (Mundt) Banister. She attended rural Merrick County schools.
She married
Glenn McClure on Jan. 31, 1935, at Archer. They lived in Chapman, Archer, Palmer and Central City. She had lived at Bader Villa in Central City for four years.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church and enjoyed crossword puzzles, baking, gardening and embroidery.
Survivors include two sons, David of Palmer and Dan of Central City; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and three brothers, Walter, Earl and Harry Banister.
John Mundt
CENTRAL CITY -- John William Mundt, 81, of Central City died Wednesday, May 12, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Kleine Funeral Home in Grand Island. The Rev. Jim Schmitt will officiate. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. in Pierce Chapel cemetery in Clarks.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Lowell Ginn
LINCOLN -- Lowell "Bruce" Ginn, 40, of Lincoln, formerly of Hastings, died Sunday, May 9, 1999, in Lincoln.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Greenwood cemetery in Trumbell. The Rev. Steve Hodgson will officiate.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Kleine Funeral Home of Grand Island is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Ginn was born on April 2, 1959, to Eugene and Wilta (Lyons) Ginn. As a young boy, he moved to Trumbull with his parents and attended school at Harvard and Trumbull. He worked as a mechanic and owned his own shop for a while.
He liked to hunt, fish, play cribbage, poker and tinker around.
Survivors include eight children, Tera of Grand Island, Joshua, Jackie, Justin, Jeremy, Trevor and Matthew, all of Hastings, and Shauna of Kearney; five brothers, Lynn, Lyle and Leon, all of Trumbull, Larry of Deshler and Roy Gene Lyons of Mount Rose, Kan.; and one sister, Lyla (Mrs. Jon) Kruse of Kansas City, Kan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Lennis; and one sister, Katherine.
Margaret Kahler
LINCOLN -- Margaret E. Kahler, 72, of Lincoln died Sunday, May 9, 1999.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home. The Rev. Herb Wenz will officiate.
There will be no visitation.
Memorials are suggested to Friendship Home in Lincoln or the Capital Humane Society.
Mrs. Kahler was born on Dec. 13, 1926, at Meadow Grove to Emil and Anna (Schwendig) Rudrick. She graduated from Neligh High School in 1945. She was a retired accounts supervisor for FirsTier Bank.
Survivors include one son, Steven D. Kahler of Lincoln; one daughter, Stephanie (Mrs. Chuck) Moore of New Philadelphia, Ohio; four grandchildren; and three sisters, Charlotte Warneke of Norfolk and Irma Schreinder and Vi Green, both of Grand Island.
