Dorothy Clipston
WESLACO, Texas -- Dorothy M. Clipston, 87, of Weslaco, Texas, died May 3, 1999, at her home.
Services were on Friday in Weslaco. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. May 21 at Wyuka cemetery in Lincoln.
Mrs. Clipston was born on March 4, 1912, near Albion to Charles and Estella (McKnight) Harriger. She attended Albion High School and graduated from Lincoln High School and Lincoln School of Commerce.
She married
Donald Clipston on Sept. 11, 1935. They lived on a farm southwest of Albion until 1964, when they moved into Albion. She worked at the Boone County Assistance Office for eight years and was a teacher's aide at Albion Public School. She was also a part-time receptionist at Albion Medical Clinic. She later started a ceramics shop in her home. The couple moved to Weslaco in 1980.
She was preceded in death by her husband and three brothers, Thomas, George and Donald Harriger.
Charles Dryer Jr.
DANVILLE, Calif. -- Charles "Son" Dryer Jr., 80, of Danville, Calif., died May 5, 1999.
Private services will be held.

Mr. Dryer was born on Sept. 7, 1918, in Grand Island. He attended St. Mary's High School. He served in the Navy during World War II and attended Long Beach, Calif., Community College. He was a lithographer, retiring in 1974.
He was a former member of the Elks Lodge in Walnut Creek, Calif., Sons in Retirement in Walnut Creek and the Tulare, Calif., Chapter of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed golfing.
Survivors include a daughter, Janice Heide of Concord, Calif.; a son, Stephan of Los Angeles; two grandchildren; and a brother, Robert of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor.
Ernest Harmon
Ernest R. Harmon, 87, of the Grand Island Veterans Home died Monday, May 18, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Ansley Cemetery. The Rev. Scott Jones will officiate.
Mr. Harmon was cremated. There will be no visitation.
Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Harmon was born on Aug. 28, 1910, in Bluff City, Tenn., to James and Mary (Tester) Harmon. He was educated in Ansley.
He married
Maudene Campbell on June 1, 1941, in Grand Island. He then entered the Army and served during World War II in the South Pacific. After the service, he attended college in Omaha. While in Omaha, he worked for the Pacific Tool Co. Mrs. Harmon died in 1995. Mr. Harmon moved to Sutherland and returned to Grand Island in June 1997.
He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and attended Third City Christian Church.
Survivors include one brother, Clinton Harmon of Gering.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one sister, Emma Jones; and six brothers, Clynard, Morris, Conley, Clyde, Oral and Cain.
Erma Johnson
SARGENT -- Erma B. Johnson, 102, died Tuesday, May 19, 1998, at the Sargent Nursing Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Rhoad Funeral Chapel in Sargent. The Rev. Don Schauda will officiate. Burial will be in the Merna Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Albert Maul
DONIPHAN -- Albert Maul, 86, of Doniphan died Sunday, May 17, 1998, at his home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Brand-Wilson Chapel in Hastings. Elder Daniel Huffman will officiate. A private burial will be at a later date in Cedar View cemetery in Doniphan.
Mr. Maul was cremated. There will be no visitation.
Memorials are suggested to Mary Lanning Hospice.
Mr. Maul was born on July 12, 1911, at Hastings to Henry and Anna (Schwinniger) Maul.
He married
Rose Varah on Aug. 16, 1930. He worked at NAD, Grand Island Ordinance, A.H. Jones Motors and F.H. Brandeis. He then owned and operated Maul Service in Doniphan.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Dianne Clark and Alberta Maul, both of Doniphan; one son, Jerry Maul of Upper Lake, Calif.; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Helen Cronin of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by one grandson and two brothers, William and Donald.
Karlene Olson
STROMSBURG -- Karlene Olson, 73, of Stromsburg died Monday, May 18, 1998, at the Hearthstone in York.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Stromsburg Baptist Church. The Rev. Duane Tweeten will officiate. Burial will be in the Stromsburg Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Palmer Funeral Home in Stromsburg.
Mrs. Olson was born on July 15, 1924, at Stromsburg to Frederick G. and Helen (Standing) Swanson. She graduated from Stromsburg High School in 1942.
She married
Melburne Olson of Stromsburg on Sept. 3, 1944. She was a cook at the Stromsburg schools for many years and retired in 1974. She worked outdoors on the farm and enjoyed her flowers and gardening.
She was a member of the Stromsburg Baptist Church, where she served as financial secretary and was active in various church activities.
Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Kile Lindburg of Stromsburg; one grandson; and one sister, Ruth (Mrs. Merle) Luft of Grand Island.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Eldon Swanson.
Edward Reeves
KEARNEY -- Edward J. Reeves, 83, of Kearney died Monday, May 18, 1998, at his home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at O'Brien-Straatmann Funeral Home in Kearney. The Rev. Eldin Wells will officiate. Burial will be in the Kearney cemetery with military honors conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 759 and the Kearney National Guard unit.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Kearney Senior Hospitality Center.
Mr. Reeves was born on June 19, 1914, at Elm Creek to Robert and Ethel (Gillming) Reeves. He attended school in Elm Creek.
He married
Hattie Hansen on Nov. 23, 1935, in Greeley. He entered the Army on March 12, 1944, and was wounded crossing the Rhine River in Germany. He received his honorable discharge on Nov. 8, 1945.
He was a custom butcher in the Kearney and Gibbon areas. He also spent some time as a farmer and did foundry work.
His hobbies included his dog, watching baseball and wrestling on television and playing cards.
Survivors include two sons, Orville of Grand Island and Don of Axtell; two daughters, Marilyn Brahatcek of Grover City, Calif., and Patricia Smith of Kearney; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Melvin of Millard; and one sister, Ruby Fish of Kearney.
He was preceded in death by his wife.
