Guy Deal
Guy E. Deal, 77, of 804 N. Boggs No. 416 was found dead at his home on Tuesday, Feb. 23, 1999.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Ft. McPherson National cemetery at Maxell. Military rites will be by the North Platte American Legion. There will be no visitation. Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Deal was born Feb. 8, 1922, to Lyle and Lillian (Gano) Deal at Ansley. He grew up in Aurora and was educated there. He entered the U.S. Army on Oct. 12, 1942, and served in the European Theater during World War II. He was discharged on Dec. 17, 1945.
He married
Lola Fern Davis in February 1941. Upon his discharge, he worked in Hastings in a sheet metal shop then for Borley Mayflower Moving and Storage for more than 20 years. When he moved to Grand Island, he worked for Sullivan's Moving and Storage and then for Knight Brothers.
Survivors include his stepmother, Lucille Deal of Cozad; three sons, Ronald Lee Deal of Arcadia, Calif., Michael Guy Deal of Omaha and Timothy J. Deal of Hastings; three granddaughters; two grandsons; one great-grandson and three brothers, Jerry Deal of North Platte, Denny Deal of Cozad and Steve Deal of Lincoln; three sisters, Betty Ann Christensen of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Evie Sisco of Marion, Iowa, and Ramona Biesterfeld of Cozad.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Max Deal, Lyle Deal Jr. and Wayne Deal; two sisters, Lila Jean Ankney and LaDean Glines and his former wife, Lola Davis Deal.
Cora Johnson
Cora B. Johnson, 93, of Grand Island died Tuesday, Feb. 23, 1999, at the St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. Fred Gardner will officiate. Eastern Star Services by Andrew Chapter 41 will be conducted during the funeral. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Friday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the Grand Generation Center or Park Place Nursing Center.
Mrs. Johnson was born Nov. 22, 1905, to Charles and Henrietta (Spiker) Herron at Grand Island. She grew up and received her education at Grand Island.
On July 11, 1929, she married
Howard Johnson at Grand Island. The couple lived in Grand Island. She worked for Dr. Rich at the Palmer Hotel, the Office of the General Hospital and Boy's Scout Office. She later worked at the court house in the County Treasurer's Office. She retired in 1964, after her daughter's death.
She was a member of the United Congregational Church and Andrew Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her son-in-law, Bruce and Jacqueline Burnett of Grand Island, who were her caretakers, and a sister, Ruth Cummings of San Diego, Calif.
She was preceded in death by three brothers and a daughter.
Gladys Schinkel
Gladys L. Schinkel, 87, of Grand Island died Monday, Feb. 22, 1999, at her home.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at peace Lutheran Church in Grand Island. The Rev. William Voelker will officiate. Inurnment will be at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Riverside cemetery in Gibbon. Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the Peace Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Schinkel was born April 26, 1911, to Ray and Ann (Adamson) McNurlin at Brunswick. She grew up and received her education at Brunswick where she graduated from high school.
She married
Harry L. Schinkel on Oct. 5, 1934, at Siouxc Falls, S.D. They lived in Gibbon from 1940 to 1982 where they owned and operated the Schinkel Implement Company. They moved to Creighton. Mr. Schinkel died June 1, 1987. Mrs. Schinkel moved to Grand Island in 1996.
Mrs. Schinkel was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church.
Survivors include one son, Larry Schinkel of Grand Island; and four grandchildren.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by one brother, Arnold McNurlin.
'Jack' Anderson
ALBION -- John B. "Jack" Anderson, 92, of Albion died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 1999, at his home.
Funeral services are pending with Levander Funeral Home of Albion.
'Jack' Burch
FULLERTON -- Alvin "Jack" Burch, 82, of Fullerton died Monday, Feb. 22, 1999, at Litzenberg Memorial County Hospital in Central City.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church in Fullerton. The Rev. Jim Howland will officiate. Burial will be in the Fullerton cemetery with military rites. Palmer Funeral Home in Fullerton in in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the Shriners Childrens Hospital.
Mr. Burch was born April 28, 1916, to Earl and Alvida (Hansen) Burch in Fremont. He grew up in Fremont moving to Fullerton and graduating from Fullerton High School in 1935. He graduated from St. Paul Business College.
He married
Lucille Tranbarger on Oct. 25, 1938, in Mankato, Kan. They lived in Fullerton. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1942 to 1945 serving in the European Theatre from 1943 to 1945. After returning home, he was self-employed, owning and operating a hatchery. He managed the Tranbarger Variety Store for 10 years. He owned and operated Bulk Milk Trucks and was a Nance County service officer for several years.
He was a member of Masonic Lodge 89 and served all offices and past master. He was a member of the Tehama Shrine of Hastings and the Shrine Motor Patrol, the American Legion, First Presbyterian Church, the Royal Arch of Columbus, the Eastern Star 191. He was a past member of the City Council, Tatters Club and Fullerton Fire Department. He enjoyed professional football.
Survivors include his wife, and one daughter, Courtney of Norfolk.
Hans Lauritsen
DANNEBROG -- Hans N. Lauritsen, 91, of Dannebrog died Tuesday, Feb. 23, 1999, at Howard County Community Hospital in St. Paul.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Dannebrog. The Rev. Robert Carlson Jr. officiated. Burial was in the Loup Fork cemetery near Boelus. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Jacobsen Funeral home in St. Paul.
Memorials are suggested to the Howard County Hospital.
Mr. Lauritsen was born Nov. 20, 1907, at Dannebrog to Thomas F. and Stine (Steffensen) Lauritsen. He grew up near Dannebrog and attended rural school District 74 near Dannebrog. After his education, he began farming in the Dannebrog area and continued to farm all of his life. He also raised cattle.
He retired in the late 1970s. In June 1994, he moved to the extended care wing of Howard County Hospital.
He enjoyed blue rock shooting and sightseeing.
He was a past member of the Dannebrog Country Club.
Survivors include one brother, Ray of Dannebrog and two nephews.
Rose Lonowski
LOUP CITY -- Rose M. Lonowski, 97, of Loup City died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 1999, at Rose Lane Home in Loup City.
Services are pending with Peters Funeral Home of Loup City.
Pauline Scott
BROKEN BOW -- Pauline Scott, 83, of Broken Bow, formerly of Anselmo, died Tuesday, Feb. 23, 1999, at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow with the Rev. Doug Jones officiating. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. in the Fort McPherson National Cemetery. Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Govier Brothers Mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to the Winters Library in Anselmo.
Mrs. Scott was born Jan. 7, 1916, at Pawnee City to Chet and Kate (Richard) Rumbaugh. She graduated from high school in Callaway, then received her teaching degree from Kearney State College. She taught at Grandview Country School near Anselmo.
She married
Norman "Sonny" Scott on Mar. 25, 1939. They owned and operated Scotty's Cafe in Anselmo until Norman entered military service during World War II. After he returned from the service, they owned and operated Scott's Market in Anselmo for more than 40 years.
Mrs. Scott was a member of the United Methodist Church in Anselmo, the Order of the Eastern Star, was a charter member and past president of the Broken Bow Does, and was a member of the VFW Auxiliary at Anselmo.
Survivors include one daughter, Vicki Ambler (Mrs. Don) of Chandler, Ariz.; three grandchildren, two brothers, Milford Rumbaugh and Chet "Alvin" Rumbaugh, both of Phillipsburg, Kan.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman, parents, and one grandson.
