Roy Lautenschlager
BURWELL -- Roy H. Lautenschlager, 70, of Burwell died Saturday, March 6, 1999, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Williams Funeral Home in Edgar. The Rev. Rick Cepris will officiate. Burial will be in the Edgar cemetery with military graveside services by Warren Fletcher Post 248 of Edgar.
Mr. Lautenschlager was born on Nov. 8, 1928, at Davenport to John William and Bertha Mae (Sanner) Lautenschlager. He grew up and attended school in Davenport.
He served in the U.S. Army from January 1949 to December 1951.
He married
Marilyn Moore on Sept. 5, 1952, in Beloit, Kan. He was a truck driver, heavy equipment operator and construction worker in the Edgar, Hastings and Burwell areas, among others.
At one time, he was a member of the American Legion and the United Methodist Church in Edgar.
Mr. Lautenschlager enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening.
Survivors include his wife, of Burwell; one son, Danny of Hastings; seven daughters, Rebecca (Mrs. Brad) Osborne of Holdrege, Kelly (Mrs. Tom) McKillip of Trumbull, Kimberly (Mrs. Jim) Croston of Brule, Michele Harnett of Burwell, Lisa Gourley of Kansas City, Mo., Melissa (Mrs. Larry) Whetstine of Holdrege and Kathyrn Lautenschlager of Hastings; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Marlene Claycamp of Edgar, Geneise Braun of Hebron and Sylva Finke of Lincoln; and two brothers, Irl of Carter Lake, Iowa, and Jarvis of Davenport.
He was preceded in death by two grandsons.
Mary Meismer
Santa Maria, Calif. -- Mary Meismer, 92, of Santa Maria, Calif., formerly of Aurora, died Friday, March 5, 1999, in Santa Maria.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Aurora Catholic Cemetery. The Rev. John Keefe will officiate.
Higby Mortuary in Aurora is in charge of arrangements.
Miss Meismer was born on Aug. 6, 1906, at Cazenovia, Ill., to Adam and Adeline (Vetter) Meismer. She graduated from Aurora High School and later worked in Lincoln.
She moved to Santa Maria, Calif., where she worked as a hostess for the Santa Maria Inn for more than 60 years.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Santa Maria.
Survivors include one brother, Dennis Meismer of Grand Island; and two sisters, Marjorie Wenzenried of San Diego and Bernadine Herman of Medford, Ore.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Norbert Meismer.
Russell Nietfeld
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Russell Robert Nietfeld, 42, of Springfield, Mo., died of cancer Wednesday, March 3, 1999, at St. John's Regional Health Center in Springfield, Mo.
Services will be at a later date at the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Mr. Nietfeld was born on Nov. 21, 1956, at Grand Island to Robert and Margaret Nietfeld. He was educated in Grand Island and received his bachelor's degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
Survivors include his parents, of Springfield, Mo.; and a sister, Susan (Mrs. Michael) Dickey of Pensacola, Fla.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Rebecca Sue Nietfeld.
Sister Mary Ann Wissing
MILWAUKEE -- Memorial services for Sister Mary Ann Wissing, 84, of Milwaukee will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at St. Libory's Catholic Church in St. Libory.
Sister Mary Ann died Feb. 26, 1999, in Milwaukee.
Previous services were on March 2 with burial at Mount Olivet in Milwaukee.
Maxine Koenig
Maxine M. Koenig, 84, of Grand Island died Sunday, Feb. 28, 1999, at Lakeview Rehab/Nursing Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Peace Lutheran Church with the Rev. William Voelker officiating. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
Memorials are suggested to the church, the Therapeutic Community for Young Women or the Crisis Center.
Kleine Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Arnold Rassmussen
Arnold Rasmussen, 90, of Grand Island died Monday, March 1, 1999, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Leo's Catholic Church with the Rev. Jack Rademacher officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., with a rosary at 7 p.m., Wednesday at the church.
Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the family.
Mr. Rasmussen was born on Jan. 3, 1909, in Cairo to Charlie and Marie (Anderson) Rasmussen. He began farming during the Depression and then began electrical work for Southern Nebraska Rural Public Power District first as a superintendent and then as an assistant manager. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served in the 63rd Navy Construction Battalion during World War II.
After his discharge in 1945, he returned to work at the power company.
He married
Barbara Maiefski-Peters on March 29, 1948.
Upon retiring in 1974, after 34 years with the power company, he worked as a painter and drove the school bus to Stuhr Museum. He volunteered at the museum and in the classroom. He also worked as a guard at Fonner Park and worked part time for 15 years at W.F. Dodge, where he reported current commercial and residential construction in the Grand Island and Hall County area.
Mr. Rasmussen was a charter member of St. Leo's Catholic Church, a 14-year member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 11, a past member of the sheriff's posse and a member and past board member of the Liederkranz. He also was a member of Elks Lodge 604, the Platt-Duetsche, the American Legion and AARP.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and playing cards.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Becky Rasmussen-Markwell of Salem, Ore.; one stepson, John "Jack" Peters of Grand Island; one stepdaughter, Bonnie-Lou Scott of Williamsburg, Va.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Ann Sena Siefert of Yuma, Colo.
Mr. Rasmussen was preceded in death by two brothers, Peter and Ed.
Leo Borowiak
SILVER CREEK -- Leo F. Borowiak, 83, of Silver Creek died Sunday, Feb. 28, 1999, at the Grand Island Veterans Home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church-Krakow with the Rev. Robert Nienaber officiating. Burial will be in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery-Krakow in rural Genoa with military services by Silver Creek American Legion Post 263.
Visitation will be after 4 p.m., with a 7:30 p.m. vigil, Tuesday at McKown Funeral Home in Silver Creek. Visitation will continue from 9:30 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church.
Mr. Borowiak was born on Jan. 7, 1916, in Nance County to Anthony and Antonia (Zuroski) Borowiak. He attended school in Nance County and served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1943 to 1945 in Germany, England and France.
He farmed the family farm until he retired.
Survivors include one brother, Dominic Borowiak of Grand Island; and one sister, Delphine (Mrs. Ray) Rolfson of Omaha.
He was proceeded in death by one brother and two sisters.
