Douglas Smith
SAN FRANCISCO -- Douglas Smith, 50, of San Francisco, Calif., died Saturday, Jan. 31, 1998, at a San Francisco hospital.
Mr. Smith will be cremated and memorial services will be later in California and Massachusetts.
Mr. Smith was born April 5, 1947, in Norwood, Mass., to Emilek and Gladys (Berggren) Smith. Later the family moved to Monson, Mass. where he attended Monson Boys Academy and graduated in 1965.
He was a graduate of Wheaton College in Illinois and received a master's degree in political science from New York University in 1971.
He worked in the U.S. Department of Social Services in New York and Denver. In recent years in San Francisco he worked for the Social Security Services. Because of ill health he retired in 1994. He enjoyed traveling.
Survivors include his mother, Gladys Smith of Heritage Nursing Home in St. Paul.
He was proceeded in death by his father, who died in 1971.
Barbara Freeman
SARGENT -- Barbara M. Freeman, 42, of Sargent died Sunday, Jan. 4, 1998, at the Goli Medical Center in Sargent.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sargent. The Rev. Mike McDonald will officiate with burial in the Cottonwood cemetery in Burwell.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Rhoad Funeral Home in Sargent. A rosary will be recited Tuesday night at the Rhoad Funeral Chapel in Sargent.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
E. Ray Mayo
GIBBON -- E. Ray Mayo, 88, of Gibbon, died Sunday, Jan. 4, 1998, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services are pending with the Godberson Mortuary of Gibbon-Shelton.
Bruno Neidhardt
ALBION -- Bruno F. Neidhardt, 81, of Albion died Sunday, Jan. 4, 1998, at his home north of Albion.
Services are pending with the Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
Charles Werner
NORTH LOUP -- Charles Werner, 74, of North Loup died Saturday, Jan. 3, 1998, at the Valley County Hospital in Ord.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Ord Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Mike Chase officiating.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the North Loup Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Unit.
Mr. Werner was born on July 1, 1923, in Phillips County, Kan., to Otto and Charlotte (Nostrand) Werner. He grew up in Kansas and attended Kensington, Kan., High School, graduating in 1942. He joined the U.S. Navy in December 1942 and was discharged in December 1945. While in the service, he made the D-Day landing and later served in the Pacific Theater.
He married
Ruth Hart on Oct. 5, 1957, in Lincoln. He worked for the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation for 35 years, working in Nebraska, Kansas, North Dakota and South Dakota. He retired while working on the Calamus Project in 1979. The couple had made North Loup their home for the past 20 years.
He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Elks and NARFE.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth of North Loup; and three brothers, Leonard Werner of Emporia, Kan., Donald Werner of Kirwin, Kan., and Robert Werner of Phillipsburg, Kan.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Grauerholz; a brother, Lawrence Werner; and an infant brother, Eldon.
Ron Hulme
Ronald "Ron" L. Hulme, 64, of 510 E. Ninth died Monday, Jan. 4, 1999, at his home.
Services are pending at Kleine Funeral Home.
Ben Koziol
Ben J. Koziol, 72, of 1726 S. Blaine, formerly of Fullerton, died Monday, Jan. 4, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Leo's Catholic Church in Grand Island. Burial will be in the Fullerton Catholic cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday with a 7 p.m. prayer service all at St. Leo's Catholic Church.
Palmer Funeral Home of Fullerton is in charge of arrangements.
Leslie Brundage
CAIRO -- Leslie Brundage Jr., 54, of Cairo, died Sunday, Jan. 3, 1999, in Cairo.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Apfel Funeral Home in Cairo. The Rev. Alan Davis will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant cemetery in Cairo. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home in Cairo.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Brundage was born Feb. 23, 1944, in Cairo to Leslie and Marlene (Brisbane) Brundage. He grew up in the Cairo area and attended a country school near Cairo. He served in the Army National Guard from 1961 to 1964.
He married
Juanita Vaith in Cairo on Dec. 22, 1963. He married
Bonnie Fisk in September of 1974. During his life he lived at various times in Nebraska, California and Washington.
He worked for Falstaff Beer as a driver, owned and operated Brundage repair in Cairo, owned and operated the Cactus Patch Restaurant in Cairo and was a security officer at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant at Alda. Most recently he worked for Hooker Brothers Construction in Grand Island.
Survivors include his parents in Cairo; two sons, Micheal and Richard of Geneva; one daughter, Brenda Ruther of Hansen; two sisters, Jean Ann Bernth and Joy Lynn Wenzl, both of Grand Island; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother and his grandparents.
Mary Bussey
BROKEN BOW -- Mary M. Bussey, 75, of Broken Bow died Saturday, Jan. 2, 1999, at her home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow. The Rev. Ray Sorensen will officiate. Burial will be in the Broken Bow cemetery. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Govier Brothers Mortuary.
Mrs. Bussey was born Aug. 30, 1923, at Beaver City to Albert and Bertha (Groathouse) Fox. She grew up and attended school in the Fairbury area.
She married
Clyde Moody in 1942.
She married
Edsell Bussey in 1962. He died in 1963. The family moved to Westerville in 1964 where they lived for 17 years. She worked at Becton Dickinson in Broken Bow for 17 years. In 1982, she moved to Broken Bow to be near her family.
Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn (Mrs. Joseph) Farrar of Vicksburg, Miss. and Kimberly (Mrs. Ronnie) Fiorelli of Broken Bow; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.
Lois Donnelson
FULLERTON -- Lois Donnelson, 83, of Fullerton, died Monday, Jan. 4, 1999, at the Boone County Health Center in Albion.
Services are pending at Palmer Funeral Home in Fullerton.
