Anna Dorr
AURORA -- Anna Dorr, 97, of Aurora died Thursday, Dec. 31, 1998, at the Hamilton Manor in Aurora.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Page United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Page Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Tuesday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora. The casket will be open before services at the church.
Mrs. Door was born on Jan. 23, 1901, in the Linwood area in the Platte River country to Charles and Mary (Semard) Homolka. She attended schools in that area and later moved with her parents to a ranch south of Chambers.
She married
Henry Dorr on Oct. 14, 1920. They farmed for many years around O'Neill and Page until Mr. Dorr's death.
Survivors include three sons, L.O. Dorr of Whidbey Island, Wash., Duane Dorr of Page and Wayne Dorr of Aurora; three daughters, Dorothy Ekelund of Hopland, Calif., Marguerite Warren of Fort Bragg, Calif., and Betty Ulrich of Greeley, Colo.; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and two sisters, Antoinette Burival and Adeline Kellar, both of O'Neill.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by three grandchildren, a brother, a sister, a half sister and a half brother.
'Becky' Graham
TAYLOR -- Rebecca Jean "Becky" Graham, 35, of Taylor died Saturday, Jan. 2, 1999, at the Valley County Hospital in Ord due to Huntington disease.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Eberle-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell. The Rev. Roger Gillming will officiate. Cremation will follow the services. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time Tuesday.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mrs. Graham was born Dec. 6, 1963, in Rushville to Robert and Norma Jean (Perreten) Davis. She graduated from Rushville High School in 1982 where she was vice-president of her class.
She married
Wayde Graham. They were married
for about 21/2 years.
She moved to Taylor in 1989 to live with her mother. She became a resident of the Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell Dec. 1, 1995.
She loved sports and was active in them during high school. She also loved horses, country western music and motorcycles.
Survivors include a son, Dustin of Rushville; her mother; a brother, Bob Davis of Taylor; and three sisters, Ronda Ronnfeldt of Taylor, Robin (Mrs. Rod) Sones of Rushville and Rayann (Mrs. Shawn) Hanks of Kearney.
She was preceded in death by her father; a brother, Rickie; and her grandparents.
Pauline Hemmingsen
PRIMROSE -- Catherine Pauline Hemmingsen, 83, of Primrose, died Sunday, Jan. 3, 1999, at the Boone County Health Center at Albion.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Presbyterian Church at Primrose. The Rev. Mary Avidano will officiate. Burial will be in the Dublin cemetery near Primrose. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
Mrs. Hemmingsen was born Aug. 10, 1915, near Silver Creek to Edmund Raymond "Ned" and Margaret Mary (Bowe) Kershaw. She received her education at a Genoa country grade school and graduated from Silver Creek High School in 1933. She taught at a Greeley County country school for three years.
On June 7, 1937, she married
Theodore "Ted" Hemmingsen in Omaha. They lived and farmed in the Primrose area. Their first home was one mile southeast of Primrose. In 1939 they moved to a farm 3 miles southeast of Primrose where they lived until 1969. They then moved to live in Primrose.
They owned Daniel Boone antiques from the early 1970s until 1985. Mr. Hemmingsen died Aug. 24, 1988. She lived in her home in Primrose until moving to Friendship Villa in Spalding Dec. 7, 1998.
She was a member of the Primrose Presbyterian Church and Starlite Circle, the Cedar Valley Art Guild and the Loup Valley Porcelain Artists.
Survivors include two daughters, Virginia (Mrs. Wayne) Spike of Cedar Rapids and Lynn (Mrs. Herman) Gragert Jr. of St. Edward; one son, Jewell Hemmingsen of Primrose; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Pearl (Mrs. Bill) Fitzsimmons of Cedar Rapids, Cecil (Mrs. Cliff) DeFreece of Columbus, LaJean (Mrs. Harold) Kelly of Omaha and Jackie Smyth of Barstow, Fla.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by two brothers, Don Kershaw and Edmund "Junior" Kershaw and one granddaughter.
Floyd Iwanski
ORD -- Floyd Iwanski, 75, of Ord died Saturday, Jan. 2, 1999, at his home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord with the Rev. Jim Warner officiating. Burial will be in the Ord City cemetery with military rites by the Ord Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8:30 p.m., with a rosary and Christian wake service at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday at Ord Memorial Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Iwanski was born on Aug. 14, 1923, on the family farm near Elyria to James and Katherine (Kusek) Iwanski. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Ord High School in 1941. He served in the U.S. Navy from March 23, 1945, to June 28, 1946.
He married
Marie Rysavy on June 20, 1949, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church at Ord. They farmed for more than 40 years at Elyria. They moved to Ord in 1988, but Mr. Iwanski continued to farm.
He enjoyed farming, fishing, bowling, dancing and playing cards.
He worked as a member of the VFW at Ord and the WFLA No. 432. He had also worked as a field reporter for the Farm Service Agency at Ord. He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord.
Survivors include his wife; five sons, Tim of Grand Island, Richard of Brigham City, Utah, David and Steven, both of Elyria, and Donald of Ord; three daughters, Dianne Marie and Theresa Beale, both of Milton, Fla., and Pauline Hahn of Aurora; 20 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Irwin Iwanski of Stockton, Kan.; and three sisters, Iryne Kapustka and Evelyn Paprocki, both of Elyria, and Betty Briggs of Vallejo, Calif.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Eleanor Rysavy.
Lyle Johnson
STROMSBURG -- Lyle Vernon Johnson, 79, of Stromsburg died Saturday, Jan. 2, 1999, at the Nebraska Veterans Home in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Palmer Funeral Home of Stromsburg. The Rev. Bruce Goodwin will officiate. Burial will be at the Stromsburg Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Johnson was born Dec. 23, 1919, at rural Polk County to Arnie and Grace Belle (Doremus) Johnson. He attended school in the Stromsburg area and graduated from Stromsburg High School.
He farmed, and then served in the U.S. Army during World War II from Dec. 26, 1942, to March 16, 1944. After the war, Mr. Johnson returned to the Stromsburg area where he spent the rest of his life farming.
He is survived by two brothers, Dale Johnson of Stromsburg and Gaylord Johnson of Denison, Iowa.
John Schlaf
SPALDING -- John W. "Bus" Schlaf, 89, of Spalding, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spalding. The Rev. John Schlaf will officiate. Burial with military rites will be in St. Michael's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church with rosaries at 4:30 and 7 p.m. Dolce-Scheef Mortuary of Spalding is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Schlaf was born Nov. 3, 1909, in Spalding to William and Myrtle (Wray) Schlaf. He attended Spalding Public School and graduated in 1928.
Mr. Schlaf owned and operated the Phillips 66 Service Station in Spalding. He served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946. In 1958 Mr. Schlaf became a rural mail carrier until his retirement.
On May 22, 1933, he married
Marie Krausnick at St. Michael's Church in Spalding. Mrs. Schlaf died July 29, 1967.
He married
Helen Berberich on Nov. 28, 1968. The couple moved to Grand Island in March 1998.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, William of Las Vegas, Nev. and The Rev. John of Ogallala; one step son, William Berberich of Atlanta, Ga.; four step daughters, Kay Brungardt of Norfolk, Janet (Mrs. Tom) Smyth of Arvada, Colo., Mary Berberich of Omaha and Joan (Mrs. Ron) Socha of Grand Island; one sister, Mary Sear of Holdrege; 22 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister.
Pauline Waldmann
ORD -- Pauline Waldmann, 79, of Ord died Friday, Jan. 1, 1999, at the Valley County Hospital in Ord.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord with the Rev. Jim Warner officiating. Burial will be in the Ord Catholic Cemetery.
Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the church or the American Cancer Society.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Alan of Fort Atkinson, Wis., and Pat Waldmann of Comstock; two daughters, Paula (Mrs. Kim) Musil of Ord and Cecila Waldmann of Osceola; five grandchildren; and two sisters, Velma Chalupsky of Edna, Texas, and Shirley Uphoff of Madison, Wis.
She was preceded in death by an infant grandchild.
